Diamonds Better Business Bureau Reliability Seal

Get Your Diamond at Blue Nile Today! If you've purchased a loose diamond before, you know that it's both an art and a science. Carat size, color, certification, depth, symmetry, retail mark-up, and many other factors determine the ultimate price of a diamond.

Most retail diamond stores are typically equipped to provide you with only 2 or 3 choices of stones in your desired size and price range. That means that you'll most likely have to drive between several retail locations, trying to find a diamond that you can afford and feel confident about.

Diamond Selection:

Over 146,000

TopConsumerReviews.com Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award Blue Nile leads the pack as the world's largest online retailer of certified diamonds. Shoppers love both the huge diamond selection and the customer friendliness of Blue Nile. The website is superb, the selection is gigantic and the prices are extremely competitive. If you're in the market for a diamond, Blue Nile is a great place to start.

Some of Blue Nile's features include:

  • Over 146,000 diamonds available for purchase
  • 30 day money back return policy
  • GIA certified diamonds
  • 200+ engagement settings
  • Simulated pictures
  • Online access to diamond certification
  • A+ BBB rating

The benefits of shopping at Blue Nile start with the professional website. When we first encountered the huge diamond selection at Blue Nile we were worried that the shopping experience would be lengthy and cumbersome. However, it's actually the most sophisticated website we visited. The options to narrow and tweak the selection of diamonds to exactly what you're looking for is impressive. You can choose the diamond color range, carat size, price, and clarity, as well as the polish, depth, length to width ratio, and more. Once you see the results, you can sort the diamonds, compare different stones, and view the diamond certification report online.

Whether you're looking for a loose diamond, an engagement ring, a new set of earrings, or a pendant, Blue Nile lets you quickly and easily build beautiful jewelry from the convenience of your own home.

Many online diamond customers are looking for the best diamond for an engagement ring. For these shoppers, Blue Nile provides more than 200 engagement settings to choose from. We really liked that this company offers diamonds ranging from very small to very large, so they offer diamonds that can meet any budget.

The diamonds sold at Blue Nile all include a GIA report which is the highest regarded diamond grading company in the world. That means that when you buy from Blue Nile, your diamond will be exactly what you expect. The GIA reports are visible online and help you determine where the inclusions sit on the diamond, the exact measurements of the diamond, and more.

Another feature we liked about Blue Nile is that they guarantee their work. If you're not satisfied with your diamond purchase for any reason, you can simply return your diamond within 30 days for a full refund or an exchange, minus the cost of shipping.

Blue Nile's excellent BBB rating of A+ is just one more reason you can feel comfortable shopping at this diamond retailer. Their huge diamond selection and affordable pricing mean you'll get more diamond for your money, and their guarantee backs that up. If you're in the market for a diamond, Blue Nile should be your first choice. They earn our highest rating.

James Allen

Diamond Selection:

Over 100,000

James Allen is an online jewelry retailer in business since 1999. This Maryland based company specializes in the ultimate diamond shopping experience. Unlike most diamond retailers, James Allen providers shoppers an actual 360 degree image of each of their diamonds available for sale. Shoppers will also like the extended return policy and A+ Better Business Bureau rating.

Features:

  • 24,425 diamonds available for purchase
  • 60 day money back return policy
  • GIA, IGI, AGS certified diamonds
  • 1500 engagement settings
  • Real 360 degree images of each diamond
  • Diamond certification letters attached
  • A+ BBB rating

James Allen offers a well organized website and solid search engine but really stands out with their technology. Many people want to see the actual diamond they are purchasing before making the leap. James Allen puts the shopper at ease by providing a 360 degree image to get the best look and feel of the diamond before making the purchase. The accompanied diamond certifications also help in the process. For those that are "seeing is believing" folks, James Allen is a great place to shop.

The selection of diamonds is also impressive. For those that are new to the purchase process, they need to be aware of the diamond grading with the stone they choose. GIA is considered the elite certification company in diamond grading. A "G" colored stone by GIA standards will tend to be less colorful than those of the IGI and AGS companies. However, the actual pictures of stones will eliminate many of the customers questions and allows for a better side-by- side comparison.

We also liked the abundant selection of diamond settings. The pictures of the options are large and easy to see. We think this is very helpful for those that want to feel confident before making such an expensive purchase. James Allen allows customers to choose either the diamond or setting first and the process of putting the two together is simple.

However, if you aren't fully satisfied with your purchase, James Allen provides a generous, no-hassle 60 day return policy that customers can feel good about.

James Allen provides diamond shoppers a huge selection of diamonds to choose from. The generous, no-hassle return policy and amazing diamond pictures is very appealing. James Allen receives one of our highest rankings.

JARED Visit Site

Diamond Selection:

Jared, founded in 1993, is a popular jewelry store chain that runs many commercials with catchy jingles. They also offer an abundant selection of diamonds via their online store. We think shoppers will like their loop technology that allows the customer to look closely at each actual diamond picture to observe the presence of flaws to the visible eye. We thought this was a great option and it seemed to work pretty well. Many say that the trick to finding a good value on a diamond is choosing one that has inclusions but that are not visible on the surface of the diamond - Jared's technology does a good job of allowing shoppers to feel comfortable with their purchase.

Features:

  • 14,524 diamonds available for purchase
  • 30 day money back return policy on non-custom jewelry
  • GIA, IGI, AGS certified diamonds
  • 250 engagement settings
  • Actual pictures
  • Diamond certification letters attached
  • A+ BBB rating

Navigating Jared's website is pretty straightforward. Shoppers may choose from 10 different stone shapes, the carat size, price, color and clarity. Additional options including narrowing the selection by polish symmetry and lab certification. The search results may be further organized in ascending or descending order based on size, price and more. Overall, the website does the trick of allowing shoppers to find what their looking for.

In our sample efforts we noticed that many of Jared's diamonds are in the 1 to 2 karat range so for those looking for something larger they may need to shopper a higher ranked company for better selection. The prices also seemed a bit heftier than some of the higher ranked companies.

However, if you're not satisfied with your purchase, Jared's offers a 30 day return option on non-custom jewelry. Please read the fine print before making a purchase.

If you love the idea of using a loop to look for noticeable inclusions than you'll love the online technology that Jared's brings to the diamond market.

ROSS & SIMONS Visit Site

Diamond Selection:

44,724

In the jewelry business for over 60 years, Ross & Simons has it down to a science. When it comes to diamond selection, the options are nearly endless at this website. The website is designed generally easy to navigate with some filtration functions to help narrow down the search. Customers will like the large diamond selection as well as the A+ Better Business Bureau rating at the time of review.

Features:

  • 44,724 diamonds available for purchase
  • 30 day money back return policy
  • GIA, IGI, AGS certified diamonds
  • 165 engagement settings
  • Simulated pictures
  • Diamond certification letters will not open for review
  • A+ BBB rating

The Ross & Simons online shopping experience is busy and a bit cluttered but the navigation options work. Shoppers may choose from 10 different shapes, a price range, carat size, clarity and color. Unfortunately there are not any additional options to drill down to an exact match. We did find a glitch in their website. Over the course of several days we were unable to view the diamond certificate on the website. We are not sure if this was subsequently fixed but was disappointing.

Ross & Simons also allows shoppers to find a setting for their diamond selection. Customers can choose from several categories including classic, solitaire, vintage, side stones, designer and halo. We found a few nice options within the selection.

If the customer is not satisfied with their purchase, Ross & Simons offers a 30 day money back return policy but provides some inclusions that should be reviewed first.

We rated Ross & Simons rather high for their largest selection and strong customer history. However, we were less excited about the look and functioning of the website. They are worth a look but the experience is more discount store shopping without the low prices.

KAY JEWELERS Visit Site

Diamond Selection:

Kay Jewelers is another chain store that offers a decent selection of diamonds for purchase over the Internet. While chain jewelry stores aren't our favorite choice, we know that many people like them for their good service. When purchasing an item from Kay Jewelers, online, you may take it in for service and repair at a local store. Kay Jewelers also comes with a strong Better Business Bureau A+ rating.

Features:

  • 3,836 diamonds available for purchase
  • 60 days return, 90 day exchange
  • GIA, IGI, AGS certified diamonds
  • 55 engagement settings
  • Actual pictures
  • Diamond certification letters attached
  • A+ BBB rating

The online shopping experience at Kay Jewelers is functional. Shoppers will find the option to sort by diamond shape, color, clarity, carat size, and price. Additional options include narrowing by certification lab, polish, symmetry and more. Customers will appreciate the real pictures of the actual diamonds sold at Kay, along with the option to drag their simulated loupe over the stone to look for inclusions. This is a nice feature that one of the other companies also offers. Many people want to see an actual picture of the diamond and this is a great way to feel like you know what you're buying.

Once you've chosen a diamond the website allows the option to choose a matching setting. Unfortunately there's only a limited selection compared to many other companies reviewed.

Kay offers a nice 60 day return and 90 day exchange policy if you're not satisfied with your purchase. Please see the specific policy online to identify any exclusions.

Overall, Kay Jewelers has serviced millions of happy customers and will continue to do so with their online options. We were less excited about the diamond and setting selections at Kay but appreciate the perfect BBB score and customer policies.

DIAMOND WAVE Visit Site

Diamond Selection:

4,865

Diamond Wave is a little newer to the online diamond market than some of the other companies reviewed. They bring to the table an expansive diamond selection and a strong Better Business Bureau rating of A+. This is a family owned company that takes pride in customer service. The only down side is that we could find any method to select a setting for our diamond of choice.

Features:

  • 4,865 diamonds available for purchase
  • 45 day money back return policy
  • GIA only certified diamonds
  • No option to set the diamond
  • Simulated pictures
  • Diamond certification letters attached
  • A+ BBB rating

Diamond Wave has a clean and clear website that is easy on the eyes and definitely appealing. Their diamond search engine is straightforward with the option to narrow your search by shape, cut, color, clarity, carat, size and price. Additional options include polish, symmetry, table and depth.

Diamond Wave only offers GIA certified diamonds so that shoppers can know they are buying with confidence. The company also offers a 45 day money back guarantee but, like many jewelers, excludes custom and engraved work.

With nearly 4,900 GIA certified diamonds we like Diamond Wave for the loose stone shopper. For those wanting to select a diamond and then a matching setting, we wished this company offered this option or at least made it a more straightforward obvious choice, if it does exist. We also didn't see, in our sampling, many affordable options. This may be attributed to the high quality certification that comes with these diamonds.

If you are in the market for a GIA certified loose diamond and like a family owned business, this company is worth closer look.

Diamonds USA

DIAMONDS USA Visit Site

Diamond Selection:

Over 27,000

Diamonds USA is a New Jersey based company that has been in the online jewelry business since 2008. We found their list of available diamonds to be abundant but their website clunky and unfriendly. Without being able to look at an actual picture of the diamond or the actual lab certification we felt that shoppers would be selecting their diamond without confidence. Diamonds USA also lost points for inventory sorting issues that increased our search time.

Features:

  • 19,562 diamonds available for purchase
  • 30 day money back return policy
  • GIA, EGL, and their own certified diamonds
  • 150 engagement settings
  • Simulated pictures
  • Simulated diamond certification letters attached
  • A BBB rating

Diamonds USA provides shoppers the option to sort by shape, price range, carat size, lab certification, color, clarity and cut. Our first disappointment was when the long list of results appeared we were unable to sort or organize for a quick scan. Next, the provided pictures are simulated, which is acceptable but when we couldn't see an actual copy of the lab certification letter we lost interest in Diamonds USA. We're not sure who would want to pick a diamond based on such few details.

Purchases at Diamonds USA do come with a 30 day money back guarantee for non-custom, engraved or resized jewelry. This is a pretty typical return policy across the board of loose diamond retailers.

Diamonds USA also doesn't appear to sell any diamonds smaller than .82 carats at a starting price of $1,400.00 which will not meet the needs of many looking to purchase smaller diamonds for pendants, earrings, rings and the like. Similarly, we couldn't find any option to set the diamond.

Despite a strong BBB rating and a huge inventory of diamonds, Diamonds USA misses the mark in website functionality and more importantly, allowing the customer to see some evidence of the stone they are buying. We struggled to find any good reason to choose Diamonds USA over a top rated company.

Diamond Princess

DIAMOND PRINCESS Visit Site

Diamond Selection:

16,150

Diamond Princess is a New Jersey based online jewelry store that offers an over abundance of loose diamonds but misses the mark on a less professional website with some technical glitches. This company started in 2008 and currently holds an A Better Business Bureau rating.

Features:

  • 16,150 diamonds available for purchase
  • 30 day money back return policy
  • GIA, EGL, AGS certified diamonds
  • No engagement setting options
  • Simulated pictures
  • No certification letters attached
  • A BBB rating

Diamond Princess allows the shopper to choose from 9 different diamond shapes, the certification lab, carat size, color, cut, and clarity. Unfortunately we weren't able to further sort or refine our search. We also noticed that, from our sampling, the diamond prices were much higher than other companies reviewed and we couldn't locate an actual diamond certification for viewing. We also weren't able to set the diamond in an engagement ring which was unfortunate and wouldn't meet the needs of many diamond shoppers.

All purchases from Diamond Princess may be returned within 30 days for a full refund if not, altered, engraved or custom made.

While the selection size is huge at Diamond Princess, the search engine is lacking and the prices gave us sticker shock. We wanted to see the actual lab certification, and an option to set the diamond but couldn't find one despite our several attempts.

Diamond Princess offers one of the largest selections of diamonds but misses the mark in a few important ways. If you are in the market for a diamond we recommend you shop a higher ranked company at this time.

Sun Jewelry

SUN JEWELRY Visit Site

Diamond Selection:

1,200

Sun Jewelry is a California based online jewelry business that claims to have 30 years’ experience but doesn't have any record with the Better Business Bureau that we could find. At first we thought Sun Jewelry’s diamond search engine was one of the worst on our list but we subsequently ran across this sort of odd place to click that did allow us to filter through their 1200 diamonds, to a certain extent. We also were unenthusiastic about Sun Jewelry’s requirement you choose a diamond setting upon check out.

Features:

  • 1,200 diamonds available for purchase
  • 30 day money back return policy
  • GIA, EGL, IGI, HRD, AGS certified diamonds
  • A handful of engagement settings – which are required at purchase of a diamond
  • Simulated or no pictures
  • Online access to diamond certification
  • No BBB rating

Shoppers have the option to click on the diamond shape to see a list of potential diamonds. Unfortunately there’s no means of sorting or refining your search. The customer literally has to manually go through a long list of diamonds to find what they are looking for. If you’re able to find the diamond navigation area, which took us some time to find, you'll be able to narrow your search by clarity, cut, color, and so on. This was helpful in pinpointing what we were looking for but frustrating that it wasn't an obvious choice, upfront. By shape there are no pictures but within the hidden navigation area a simulated picture will appear. Sun Jewelry didn't advertise they were simulated but when we looked across several we saw the pictures were the same.

At checkout we were further annoyed that we were required to choose a ring setting. Perhaps our purchase is for an existing ring, a pendant or some earrings? We felt many would turn away at this point, if not much sooner. Sun Jewelry does provide a standard 30 day return policy. We aren't sure if they consistently honor that policy without a presence on the Better Business Bureau website to confirm.

Sun Jewelry was ranked low due to the very frustration shopping experience we endured. Bad navigating, a strange checkout process and more were a turn off.

CARATS DIRECT 2 U Visit Site

Diamond Selection:

930

Carats Direct 2 U is a New York based company that both manufactures and sells diamonds, tennis bracelets, earrings and more. We identified that shoppers will find clarity and color enhanced diamonds, as well as none treated options, at this website which is one way to save money on buying a stone. However, the company leaves a lot to be desired in their effort.

Features:

  • 930 diamonds available for purchase
  • 30 day money back return policy
  • GIA, EGL certified diamonds
  • No engagement settings options
  • Various simulated and actual pictures
  • No actual diamond certification report
  • No BBB rating

While shopping at Carats Direct 2 U we instantly noticed the lack of professionalism. The website appeared “cheap” and not where someone would feel confident spending thousands of dollars. The layout and navigation tools were some of the weakest in the bunch. Carats Direct 2 U does allow for the shopper to narrow their search by a price range, carat weight, clarity, color, “treatment”, and shape. The diamond selection is much more limited at Carats Direct but when the results appeared we had no way of narrowing, sorting or doing anything but slowly going through each option. Shoppers should also be aware that this company offers white, blue, green, and yellow diamonds within the limited selection.

About a third of the diamonds sold at this website are treated. That may include clarity enhanced, irradiated, laser drilled treatment and more to improve the look and quality of the stone. The results in our search would combine the treated and non-treated stones but customers can find that information if they click on and scroll down the page. Unfortunately Carats Direct 2 U does not include the actual lab certification to confirm what the customer can expect. Some details are available online but without the actual lab report we were skeptical.

This website also doesn't allow the customer to set the stone in a setting which may not meet the needs of many shoppers. We also had concerns with the over the top expensive shipping charges and no Better Business Bureau rating. Overall, we identified Carats Direct 2 U as a website worth skipping for your diamond needs.

Continued from above

While the task of finding the right diamond has traditionally been a frustrating and time-consuming process, the internet has made all this much easier. With the introduction of online diamond stores in the last few years, you now have access to thousands of diamonds, and can easily choose the color range, clarity, cut, and more that you're looking for. You can also compare several diamonds at the same time to find the best diamond at the best price.

Not all online diamond stores are the same. Before making your big diamond purchase, you should consider the following:

  • Selection. How large is the diamond selection? Will there be a substantial selection of all diamond cuts in various grades and color?
  • BBB Rating. What kind of history does the company have with their customers?
  • Return Policy. If your diamond purchase shows up at your doorstep but doesn't dazzle you, will you be able to return it for a full refund?
  • Settings. Will you be able to set your diamond purchase in a beautiful mounting, if so desired?
  • Diamond Certification. What lab certification companies review the diamond selection? Will you be buying the best quality diamond for the money?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best Diamond Stores available today. We hope these reviews help you find the perfect diamond that you're looking for!
