Futons Better Business Bureau Reliability Seal

Best Futon Stores

Futons have become very popular in recent years. Whether you're looking for a piece of furniture for your studio apartment or are simply looking for an unobtrusive place for guests to sleep, a futon might be the ideal choice for you. A futon is a space-saving piece of furniture with a configurable frame that can be folded in the middle or laid flat-enabling the futon to be used as either a bed or a couch.

There are three elements to a futon couch: the frame, the mattress, and the mattress cover. Futon frames can be wood, wicker, rattan, or metal, further enabling you to customize the futon's look. Typically futon mattresses feature high density foam, polyester batting, and even springs-adding to their comfort level.

Walmart

Walmart offers futon shoppers a large selection of affordably priced futon mattresses, frames and covers to choose from. Walmart also has a relationship with other futon retailers and offers a small selection from Wayfair, Unbeatable Sale and Plumstruck to improve their offerings.

Shoppers will find 20 different brands of futons via Walmart's website. Some of which may be picked up at your local Walmart to save on shipping costs while others come with free shipping. The Walmart website search functionality isn't as savvy as some other companies, shoppers may sort through the thousands of different futon products by brand name, high to low price, low to high price, customer's reviews and best sellers. The pictures and product descriptions are clear and easy to read when shopping at Walmart.

Walmart offers some higher end futon products sold through Unbeatable Sale, Wayfair and Plumstruck. That said, a shopper needs to keep in mind that the return policy, process and length is determine by which company the purchase is made from. Walmart generally has an open return policy while most of the others allow for 30 days. Please read the fine print before making a purchase.

Shipping costs are determined on which store the futon is purchased from and your current location. If purchased from Walmart, shoppers have the option to save on shipping costs via their in store delivery, free shipping and shipping program options which are available based on which specific product is purchased. Some of the other companies also offer free shipping but returns must be made via shipment back to them and are not as convenient as simply driving to your local Walmart Store.

We liked that shopping from this futon retailer means the customer has access to several product reviews on many of their items. Shoppers can get a better feel for what to expect from their futon purchase. Walmart makes up for their less than sophisticated website with a huge selection and great pricing.

Lowe's

LOWE'S Visit Site

Lowe's is a common name in the home improvements space. They specialize in all things home improvement including some decorative and furniture items. Lowe's is known for their clean and customer friendly stores that are located across the US. The company has also created a favorable online shopping experience that includes a smattering of futons.

For those that are unfamiliar with the Lowe's name, the company started over 60 years ago as a small family owned hardware store and has since grown dramatically. The selection of Lowe's futons is surprisingly notable with over 70 different futon choices from varying manufactures. Shoppers will find futons made by Coaster, Monarch, BH Design, Homelegance, Baxton Studio and more. Since Lowe's is not a major furniture retailer shoppers will not find much, if any, additional futon covers or accessories available at other futon stores.

The Lowe's website is easy to navigate. The futon selection may be further refined by price range, style, brand, wood finish, finish and customer rating. We also liked the detailed specifications that give nearly every detail possible for the shopper. While shipping is typically not free for bulk items, Lowe's does offer an in store delivery option which means shoppers can buy online and pick up at the store upon receipt. This is definitely one way to save money on delivery charges but also requires a large vehicle, some people with muscle power and a local Lowe's to be an effective option.

Returns are also simple in that products may be returned within 90 days with receipt via your local store or returned via the prepaid return shipping label. Any damaged goods must be reported to Lowe's within 3 days of receipt so it's important to inspect your purchase, quickly.

From our sample searches we found that futon prices were not as affordable at Lowe's as other companies. While they have some inexpensive options we often found better prices at other online retail stores. This dropped Lowe's in our rankings as well as the lack of futon covers and accessories options for shoppers.

Overall, the Lowe's futon selection was decent and the search engine was fast and efficient. The prices were less exciting and we would have liked to have seen more affordable, direct to door, shipping options.

Futon mattresses resemble traditional mattresses in size and comfort, however, a futon is often much less expensive than buying a traditional couch or bed. Additionally, futons usually feature removable covers that can make them even more versatile-allowing you to change the look of the futon to match your changing decor.

Futons first became popular in America In the 1960's. At that time, individuals wanted a simpler way of life, and a futon was an inexpensive choice that was perfect for small, compact areas. When futons gained in popularity, the materials used in futon mattresses changed. Today, a futon mattress is much thicker and rigid than those of the past.

In fact, futon mattresses can be purchased in several different weights and thickness - giving customers the ability to select a futon mattress with the appropriate amount of support for them. When looking for a futon, there are certain factors you need to consider. Some of these include:

  • Selection. Does the futon company offer a variety of futons and futon accessories?
  • Return Policy. Does the futon company enable you to return your futon for a full refund if you're not satisfied? How many days do you have to make returns?
  • Ease of Use. Is the futon company's website easy to use? Can you easily search for a particular type of futon? Is the website organized and easy to navigate?
