Prices range from $25.99 to over $1,000.00

Return Policy:

30-day policy. Credits issued once items are shipped back to Wayfair. Clearance items are not returnable.

TopConsumerReviews.com Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award Wayfair is a well-known online store, offering a huge range of products. With a sound reputation and over 15 years of experience, it is no surprise that they have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Specific to home safes, Wayfair offers the largest selection we've found, with over 700 safes for you to choose from. You might think this is overwhelming, but the site is professional and polished, with features that allow you to customize your search to easily find the exact safe you're looking for.

Some of the home safe brand names you can find on the website include:

  • Stack-On
  • Sentry Safe
  • Fire King
  • Gardall Safe
  • Cannon Safe

You can narrow the focus of your search even further by selecting what type of safe you want, what amount you want to spend, and what lock you want your safe to have. The search features are conveniently located on the left side of the main page, so new customers don't have to hunt for answers to questions.

Wayfair recognizes that there are a lot of different types of home safes. To that end, they offer home safes in the following categories:

  • Security Safes
  • Gun Safes
  • Depository Safes
  • Safe Boxes
  • Key Cabinets
  • Cash Boxes & Drawers
  • File Safes
  • Wall Safes
  • Diversion (Hidden) Safes
  • Floor Safes

Another feature we liked whil browsing through the choices is the specific safe ratings. Under each home safe is a star ranking, which tells you what other people have said regarding the safe you're thinking about buying. We found this very useful in helping to find a home safe we'd be happy with.

Since Wayfair offers such a wide variety of items in addition to home safes, we wondered whether their customer service department would be able to keep up with specific questions. To our surprise, we found over 2,000 reviews praising their capable support team.

Overall, the Wayfair site is user-friendly and very easy to navigate. They have an extensive inventory of home safes at very competitive prices. Those who are looking for a well-priced safe to protect the valuables in their home will enjoy shopping on this website. They earn our highest rating.

HOME SECURITY SUPERSTORE Visit Site

Cost:

Prices range from $11.95 to over $2,500.00

Return Policy:

90-day return policy with warranty options

The Home Security Superstore opened in 2003, offering quality security products. The Better Business Bureau lists them as an accredited company, meaning they are committed to resolving any issue a customer may have with their product. We found over 10,000 positive reviews confirming this company's reputation.

The website is an online extension of the store located in Alpharetta, Georgia. The site is neat, organized, and user-friendly, listing over 50 brands of home safes. You can check the inventory status and rating of any safe.

We especially appreciated how the site simplifies the selection process for its customers. For example, they list various items a customer might want and make the appropriate suggestions:

  • If you like high tech, then they recommend a lock requiring a fingerprint
  • If you like a disguise, they suggest a diversion safe
  • If you want to protect documents, they recommend a fireproof safe
  • If you want to store guns, they recommend a top-rated gun safe

These are great suggestions if you are new to shopping for a safe. Rather than overwhelm consumers with security jargon, the site showcases this company's experience with helping people find what best suits their needs.

For detailed questions, you can contact the store by phone or email. They even have a link especially for "first time users" that provides a concise summation of the company. With over ten years of experience, customers can enjoy peace of mind, knowing if they ask a customer service representative a question, they will be speaking with someone who understands the industry and the best products available.

Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with this website's professional and streamlined feel. Information is very easy to find, and the site is user-friendly. We highly recommend The Home Security Superstore to both new and seasoned shoppers looking for a home safe.

HOME DEPOT Visit Site

Cost:

Prices range from $19.00 - $2,200.00

Return Policy:

Generous 30-day return policy.

Home Depot is a one-stop shop for your home needs, so we weren't surprised to find out they also sold home safes. Moreover, they have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and an excellent return policy.

Shoppers can find all kinds of safes on the Home Depot website. We appreciated how the site was organized, with a category for every safe they sell, including the following:

  • Business & Drop
  • Can & Diversion
  • Commercial & Office
  • Gun
  • Hotel
  • Key & Portable
  • Wall
  • Safe Accessories

To find out the prices, simply click on the appropriate category of interest. You can customize your search even further by selecting the size of safe. For example, small safes are less than 1.2 cubic feet. If the area of your home where you'd like to place your safe isn't that big, a small safe might be a good fit. There are also specific measurement ranges for medium, large, and extra- large safes, allowing you to plan accordingly for where you want to place your safe in your home.

The company is well-known for its excellent service. You can purchase your safe online and pick it up at a store. You can also have your items shipped to your home. There are, however, certain shipping restrictions, so it's important to find out if they can deliver in your state before you make a purchase.

Overall, the website is user-friendly and easy to navigate. If you are unsure about working directly with a home safe online company, then buying from a well-established store like Home Depot might be your best option.

BUY A SAFE Visit Site

Prices range from $14.00 to over $1,000.00

Return Policy:

30-day policy with 20% restocking fee. No returns accepted after 30-days.

Buy a Safe began in 1991 as a lock and safe retail service. They launched their website in 2002. With over 30 years of experience, they offer a wide range of safes and locks for both personal and professional needs.

The website is very well-organized and informative. First off, we learned that there were many kinds of safes:

  • Biometric: requires a fingerprint
  • Can: camouflages what you hide your valuables in
  • Cash boxes: stores money
  • Drop: allows you to add items to your safe without opening it
  • Fire: protects your valuables from fire or water damage
  • Floor: stores larger items
  • Gun: protects loved ones from guns
  • Wall: installs directly into the wall

We also appreciated a shopping tool called, "The Safe Wizard". The page asks you, "What would you like to Protect?" Then, it lists several popular items people store in safes:

  • Jewelry
  • Money
  • Documents
  • Guns

If you are unsure what safe you need, simply click on the appropriate item icon and you will be redirected to a list of safes that best fit your needs. This helpful tool narrows down the selection process and saves time.

Our only issue with Buy A Safe is that we had a difficult time finding reviews. They have no testimonials on their page, and they are not registered with the Better Business Bureau. We did find two complaints stating poor customer service and failure to assist with a return. With such a long history and an organized website, one would think including testimonials would be a given. Overall, this site is efficient and direct

Lowe's has a solid reputation, and is known for providing great service to customers through informative team members. They have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. We found over 15,000 positive reviews, firmly establishing this company's credibility.

Regarding home safes, Lowe's has a wide selection. Customers can find information on the following types of safes:

  • Floor
  • Wall
  • Biometric
  • Combination lock
  • Electronic/Keypad
  • Keyed

You can refine your search, considering other features such as size and price. The site also provides a compare icon, allowing customers to compare up to four different safes at one time.

At first, Lowe's seems to offer everything one could hope for when searching for a safe to secure one's valuables. However, we have an issue with their online disclaimer concerning prices. We recommend calling their online customer service if you choose to buy online and pick up at a store location. We also encourage you to find out if they ship to your state.

The disclaimer takes no responsibility for errors anyone might find on the website. According to the site, "Lowe's reserves the right to revoke any stated offer." If this is the case, we strongly encourage considering your purchase carefully.

Overall, the site is easy to navigate and organized. If you're looking for a simple safe for your home, Lowe's will provide what you need. However, if you're hoping for a more sophisticated safe, you should shop around.

Gun Safes

GUN SAFES Visit Site

Cost:

Prices range from $25.00 to over $12,000.00

Return Policy:

30-day policy with 15% restocking fee

GunSafes is an online store specializing in home safes. They are a Shopper Approved website with a commitment to customer satisfaction. You can also read through several customer testimonials posted to the site.

Easy to navigate, the site is organized and informative. You can also refine your search by selecting the features you would like into your home safe. They offer a wide range of safes, including these popular brand names:

  • Browning Gun Safes
  • Rhino/Bighorn
  • Fort Knox
  • Winchester

One unique service they offer is "White Glove" in-home delivery. Customers who pay for this service can have a safe delivered and brought inside of their home. According to the site, this service provides the following options:

  • Platinum: Inside placement of the safe with 900 lb. limit
  • Gold: Inside placement on the ground level
  • Bronze: Delivery to the garage or dry area/curbside

This online store also offers many types of safes. Customers can find the following kinds of safes:

  • Gun
  • Fireproof
  • Biometric
  • Wall
  • Vehicle
  • Waterproof
  • Truck vaults

In many ways, this online store is a superstore for those seeking security for their valuables. Our biggest concern is regarding customer service. While the site provides testimonies, we found many reviews complaining about poor service. Many of these reviews focused on how long it took for them to receive their order. GunSafes is also not registered with the Better Business Bureau.

We did find a statement on the site promising to work with any customer if there were problems with an order. So, it seems they are addressing these issues and trying to resolve concerns.

Overall, we were very impressed with this site's thoroughness. If it weren't for the large number of complaints we found, GunSafes would have ranked higher and received a better review. However, no matter how nice a website might be, it's customer satisfaction that matters most.

WALMART Visit Site

Ranging from $19.95 to over $600.00.

Return Policy:

Stores offer a generous 90-day policy. However, the site recommends contacting customer care via the website for more information as some departments have specific terms.

Sam Walton opened the first Walmart store in 1962. Since then, the company has continued to grow both in the number of physical stores and as an online presence. They have an A rating with the Better Business Bureau.

In regard to home safes, Walmart offers new customers a wide range of choices. They carry the following brands:

  • Sentry Safe
  • First Alert
  • Best Choice Products
  • ShotLock
  • Steel Master

The site isn't as streamlined as other online home safe stores, but you can narrow your search by selecting the price range you hope to stay in and the brand you wish to purchase. We recommend finding more information about any safe you're thinking of buying before finalizing your sale.

They do offer a generous 90-day return policy, and you can return your product through online customer service or go to the nearest location. However, the site clearly states that its return policy is not universal. You must check with the specific department to find out if an item is returnable.

Walmart doesn't have the best reputation for being a pleasant shopping experience. Their site reflects that sentiment. While it is neat, there is no outstanding feature about the site. You can see pictures of products with their pricing, but that is all. You aren't given much more information unless you research each item.

Overall, the site is adequate. If you shop for a home safe through the Walmart website, you will see what items they offer and how much they cost. But you won't find out much more. We did read several positive reviews from both shoppers and employees on other sites. However, there are just as many complaints.

Continued from above

There are a number of options to consider before purchasing a safe for your home. Some of these include:

  • Biometric: Do you want your safe lock to require a fingerprint?
  • Wall: Do you want your safe installed into a wall?
  • Diversion: Do you want to camouflage where you keep your valuables in what might appear to be a book or soda can?
  • Floor: Do you have a larger item to store?
  • Gun: Do you have a firearm you want to store safely?
  • Fireproof/Waterproof: Do you have important documents like a birth certificate or marriage license you need to protect from damage?

Another feature to consider carefully is what kind of lock you want on your safe. Do you want to open your safe with a key? Would you prefer a biometric lock? Or perhaps you might like a keypad? How about a combination lock? Maybe you want an electronic lock? You have many options.

To assist you with this decision, TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed the best Home Safe companies available today. We hope that seeing the pros and cons of each company will help you choose what kind of safe will work best in your home!
