Hoveround

HOVEROUND Visit Site

Cost:

From $1,295 to $3,195

You have probably seen the TV adds for the Hoveround scooters. In business for over 20 years, the Hoveround product is designed to offer the best maneuverability in the tightest spaces. These scooters are only sold direct from the manufacturer in Florida and are not cheap.

Hoveround offers 9 different mobility products in various sizes and with different features to meet your needs. To search their product line you simply choose between motorized wheel chairs or power scooters. Each product clearly lists the available features including weight capacity, swivel seat option, maximum speed, product weight, turning radius and more.

Shipping is free on all products. Our only real problem with Hoveround are their stated prices. These high tech machines are definitely not cheap. But, we noticed on the website that the prices were confusing. They offer both a cash and credit price.

Should you not be happy with your purchase you have 30 days to return minus a 15% restocking fee. The warranty is a 1 year for most aspects of the scooter, 6 months on the battery and 5 years on the frame. Hoveround also offers a "Never Without Wheels" guarantee. Essentially that means if they can't fix the scooter on the same day, Hoveround will provide you a free, temporary replacement until repairs are made. Hoveround offers a lot of positive customer responses.

Overall, Hoveround provides great mobility products, but be prepared to pay a little more. You may also need assistance with finding the true price. Hoveround goes the extra mile by providing customer friendly policies.

All Electric Scooters

ALL ELECTRIC SCOOTERS Visit Site

Cost:

From $549 to $3,999

All Electric Scooters, in business since 2003, offers a large selection of mobility scooters to meet many specific needs. They also sell a variety of scooter accessories including scooter ramps, scooter lifts, scooter batteries, and more.

Searching the list of scooters is easy at All Electric Scooters. You simply choose from 3 or 4 wheel scooters, travel scooters, and heavy duty models. Brands include AmeriGlide, Golden, and Pride. With each product available you'll see technical information clearly listed, such as the weight capacity, dimensions, turning radius and more. The details are very specific all the way down to the tire type. During the check out process you may customize any of the scooters with specific seats, seat color, and batteries. You will appreciate free shipping, free batteries, and free 1 year in-home warranty at All Electric Scooters.

The return policy involves a 10 day turnaround from the date you receive the scooter. You are also responsible for a 15% restocking fee and shipping charges.

Overall we liked the selection of mobility scooters at All Electric Scooters. We would have liked to have seen a more customer-friendly return policy. However, if you're in the market for a mobility scooter, All Electric Scooters is definitely worth your consideration.

US Medical Supplies

US MEDICAL SUPPLIES Visit Site

Cost:

From $549 to $3,999

US Medical Supplies provides 3 different brands of scooters along with lift chairs, wheelchairs, ramps and many other products related to mobility issues. The website is busy and a challenge to navigate.

Lack of customer friendly organization is evident in the search functionality. One example is that the website actually lists 4 brands of scooters but only offers 3. We also saw a lot of language regarding coupons and lower prices, which felt like gimmicks. However, once we got our bearings we realized we could search by price category, 3 or 4 wheel, heavy duty and travel scooters. We also found another search option to choose by brand, weight capacity, features, suspension and product weight. With so many fonts and boxes on the website it was hard to not feel a little overwhelmed.

Some scooters offer quick ship which means they leave the warehouse in 2 days. However, to guarantee that item is in stock you need to call customer service first - a needless inconvenience. They do offer a 1 year parts and labor warranty. If you aren't satisfied with your purchase you have a quick 10 day window to return the item minus a 15% restocking fee.

The website was a huge turn off for us. We didn't appreciate the push to call a high pressured salesman for the best price. We didn't like having to use coupons which might confuse the older population. The poor return policy was an additional turn off. If you're looking for a mobility scooter we recommend you choose a more customer friendly website.

CWI Medical

CWI MEDICAL Visit Site

Cost:

From $899 to $2,399

CWI Medical sells a long list of medical related products via their online store. Their scooter selection is rather small with approximately 7 different models to choose from.

At CWI Medical the search functionality is very limited. Essentially you choose from all the scooters listed, no narrowing down by price or model type. Once you click on the product you may identify the specifications of each product in detail.

With such a limited selection, CWI Medical will not meet the needs of the majority shoppers. Also, a huge red flag is the return policy. We found different language that concerned us on the website. Once a power scooter is assembled it may not be returned. Also, some power scooters are considered a special order and con not be returned. However, if they do accept a return on your purchase you have 30 days to return the product in unused, original condition.

A shipping and handling fee is assessed to all orders and is expensive. Also of concern was the lack of specific warranty information on scooters sold at CWI Medical.

We couldn't get excited about the scooter selection at CWI Medical for any reason. The choices were very limited, the return policy was nonexistent, and the cost of shipping was expensive.

Heartland America

HEARTLAND AMERICA Visit Site

Cost:

From $539 to $669

Heartland America, in business since 1985, offers a smattering of products across a wide range of different departments. Medical supplies are clearly not their focus or expertise.

Their mission is to provide quality products at affordable prices. Unfortunately, for their scooter line that means a small, unimpressive selection. The selection is easy to peruse with only 2 or 3 models available. You simply click on the product itself and may identify the weight capacity, dimensions, battery range, and more.

Unfortunately, they do not offer expedited shipping on their scooters and charge an additional $50 - $100 for oversized shipping. The return policy includes 30 days to return but some restrictions may apply. The customer is responsible for the cost of return shipping. Heartland America also does not provide any information on service and what is covered with your purchase, should you happen to need a repair.

With such a poor selection of mobility scooters from a company that does not specialize in the medical field, we were unimpressed. With expensive shipping charges and no stated warranty, we would not shop at Heartland America for a mobility scooter.

Shopping online lets you decide between hundreds of scooter choices without leaving your home. However, not all stores selling mobility scooters offer the same policies and customer service.

Before choosing which store to purchase your mobility scooter from, consider the following:

  • Selection. Will you be able to choose from a long list of varying scooters with different features that meets your needs and budget?
  • Price. How much does the company charge for their selection of mobility scooters?
  • Policies. If you decide against your purchase, can you return it? Does a warranty come with the product, and will your scooter be serviced at home?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best Mobility Scooter stores available today. We hope these reviews help you find the best mobility scooter to keep your life active and on the go!

Benefits of Mobility Scooters

From the first wheelbarrow-type devices to the lightweight, folding metal wheelchairs invented in the 1930s, wheelchairs had one thing in common: they all required some sort of manual propulsion, either by the person seated in the chair or by a helper. Even the most technologically advance manual wheelchairs require a certain amount of upper-body strength and digital dexterity.

More recently, technical developments in battery and propulsion systems have made possible motorized wheelchairs and scooters. Now even people with limited upper-body strength or manual dexterity are able to take themselves from point A to point B with perhaps only limited assistance. Motorized wheelchairs and mobility scooters provide a level of independence to people who are unable to propel themselves in a manual wheelchair or who might require a wheelchair to travel over terrain that would be challenging in a manual wheelchair. And using a mobility scooter or powered chair instead of a cane or walker might actually help prevent further injury from falls.

Whether the reason is age, illness, or injury, with a motorized wheelchair or scooter you don't need someone to push you around. These devices now allow you to:

  • Participate more easily in family get-togethers
  • Go shopping at the grocery store or the mall
  • Attend a theater performance or a sporting event
  • Travel faster and more safely than walking with a cane or using a walker

In addition, compact and maneuverable powered wheelchairs can help you get around your own home, with minimal structural adaptation. With a tight turning radius and no handlebars, a powered wheelchair allows you to pull right up to a table or counter with ease.

A mobility scooter is most helpful for a person with conditions such as coronary or lung problems, arthritis, weight issues, and so on who can still stand and walk a few steps, sit upright without support, and steer with the handlebar controls. When mounting or dismounting from a mobility scooter, being able to turn the seat right or left makes it easier to step on or off than having to move the foot rests on a conventional wheelchair.

Mobility scooters do not look like wheelchairs; they can look way cooler. You can find models that are styled after spiffy Italian scooters in bright colors, or black and chrome motorcycle-styled “choppers.” Current battery technology allows for a range of 15-20 miles before requiring a recharge. And in general, mobility scooters are cheaper than powered wheelchairs. You can also get scooters that are easy to transport, folding small enough to fit in the trunk of a car.
