TopConsumerReviews.com Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award Hobby Tron has been in business since 2001 and is one of the world's largest retailers of remote control toys. Their fun and easy-to-use website makes shopping for RC cars, RC helicopters, and RC planes a cinch.

With hundreds of different RC toys available at Hobby Tron, you're sure to find exactly what you're looking for. Hobby Tron sells remote control products from some of the top names including ParkFlyers, Syma, Kyosho, Silverlit, Phoenix and more. Their smartly designed website is key to a fun and effective shopping experience. The Hobby Tron website allows you to search by RC type, such as remote control helicopters, remote control cars, remote control airplanes, and more. You can then further define your selection with options such as electric, gas, jets, and micro, as needed. Once your remote control selections appear, you can sort them again by price or name, to help you find exactly what you're looking for.

Hobby Tron offers competitive pricing and often puts items on sale to help you find the best value in your RC products. Should you not be satisfied with your purchase, Hobby Tron offers a 30-day return policy on all products. We found this return policy to be more generous than many other remote control toy stores. If you have any questions or concerns, Hobby Tron offers several methods of communication to assist. You may call, email or live chat with a representative to answer any question you may have.

Hobby Tron leads the pack of remote control toy stores in selection, website organization and policies. If you're looking for an RC car, RC helicopter, RC airplane, or any other type of RC toy, Hobby Tron should be your first stop. They earn our highest rating.

Airsoft RC

AIRSOFT RC Visit Site

Starting from $6.95

Airsoft is a company whose main claim to fame is the manufacturing of non-lethal firearms used for target shooting and in recreational events that are similar to paintball. The Airsoft RC website does offer a large number of Airsoft guns, but also has a huge selection of other remote control toys for sale as well, and we will focus on those in this review.

When we say Airsoft has a huge selection, we really mean it. Airsoft at our count had over 1,500 different remote control toys to choose from, not including the recreational non-lethal firearms. From RC cars to boats, helicopters, tanks and even flying saucers, Airsoft has a tremendous selection, rivaling even our top choice. The prices at Airsoft are competitive as well. We reviewed several remote control toys at Airsoft and found they were being offered for the same price as other similar websites we reviewed. We were impressed by both the selection and the cost of the remote control toys at Airsoft.

The website makes it very easy and enjoyable to browse through the large selection of RC toys. You can search by the type of toy (car, boat, helicopter), or by brand, or choose from a list of weekly specials or new arrivals. The website is fast and there is a typical shopping cart/check out system that makes it easy to select and purchase the chosen toys.

Our main issue with Airsoft is the shipping cost. Several of the other RC toy websites we reviewed offer free or discounted shipping if the order is over a certain dollar value, but we could find no such offer at Airsoft. Shipping is based on standard UPS rates and depending on the destination could get fairly expensive. We placed an order for $180.00 worth of toys and had a choice to pay $20 for 5-7 day ground shipping or $54 for a 3 day guarantee. That’s a lot of extra money to pay for shipping. The return policy, however, is excellent. You have 60 days with Airsoft to return unwanted purchases, which is a larger window than most of our top selections for RC toy websites.

All in all, Airsoft is an excellent choice for consumers looking to purchase remote control toys, just beware of a potentially high shipping cost.

Think RC

THINK RC Visit Site

Cost:

Starting from $17.95

Think RC is a remote control toy retailer based in Southern California that specializes in RC helicopters. There is a section on the website called "other toys" which features a very small number of RC buggies, but for the most part Think RC is in the business of remote control toy helicopters.

For a remote control toy business with such a narrow focus we were expecting Think RC to have a very large selection of RC helicopters to choose from. We were a little disappointed to find that there were fewer than 100 different toys in their selection. To make matters worse, 66 of the 92 RC helicopters available through Think RC were listed as "beginner level", with only 9 options for the "advanced level" consumer. Think RC has fewer options than most of the other RC toy websites we reviewed.

From a cost standpoint, Think RC is competitive with other remote control toy retailers. Reviewing the prices of some of the most popular remote control helicopters we found that Think RC offered the products for the same price as most of the other online RC toy retailers.

The Think RC website is adequate but not particularly eye catching. It is easy enough to navigate around and sort through the toy helicopters by size or experience level of the hobbyist making the purchase. The online purchasing system is certified by Bizrate and GoDaddy, so you can be confident that your online purchase will be secure, and there is a link to the Think RC Facebook page which is a nice modern touch. On the other hand the contact page does not include a toll free number so you have to make a call to California if you want to talk to a representative, and no option to live chat with customer service either. We would have liked to see a toll free customer service number like other RC toy sites we have reviewed.

Additionally the shipping and return policies at Think RC are less than ideal. We could find no shipping special deals or discounts, and the cost of shipping is standard ground service for $21 which takes 1-5 days or upwards of $70-$80 for faster shipping options. The window for customers to return unwanted products is only 15 days. This is better than some of the RC toy websites, but not as good as our more highly ranked offerings.

You may find what you’re looking for at Think RC if you are in the market for a remote control toy helicopter, but with a small selection, high shipping cost and mediocre return policy, we rank it in the middle of the pack.

Trend Times

TREND TIMES Visit Site

Cost:

Starting from $23.85

Trend Times is another online hobby shop that offers a smaller selection of RC toys. Trend Times seems to have some challenges with keeping products in stock. We noticed they sell a large list of RC cars, RC helicopters, and RC airplanes, but only about 40% of them were in stock for delivery. Given that the shopper would have to sort through both in-stock and a long list of out-of-stock items, we felt quick and care-free shopping was not going to occur here.

Our first overall impression of the Trend Times website was "messy" - which can be frustrating for many shoppers. Some categories are spread across the top, while others are on the left hand side. Once you select a category, you have further search options to drill down through their inventory. You may also sort by popularity, price and alphabetical order by name.

Shipping is not free at Trend Times. Should you not be happy with your purchase, you'll need to consider the return policy carefully. We found ourselves confused with what happens when a product suffers from manufacturer defects. In short, you have 14 days to return and a 25% restocking fee may or may not be applied. In some cases you'll need to return your remote control toy directly to the manufacture.

We had a tough time accurately comparing prices with so many products out of stock. Should you have any questions, they do allow you to contact them via phone or email.

In the end, we couldn't find any great reason to shop for RC cars, RC helicopters, or RC airplanes at Trend Times. The selection of remote control toys was poor and frustrating. The website was messy and lacked the uniformity that we appreciate in a well organized shopping experience. If you're searching for RC toys, we recommend you choose a higher ranked company.

Raiden Tech

RAIDEN TECH Visit Site

Cost:

Starting from $14.99

Raiden Tech is a California based company that provides a user friendly website with easy to view pictures and nice organization. However, actually shopping and finding remote control toys proved to be a very risky and frustrating experience.

Our biggest disappointment with Raiden Tech was their product availability. Despite listing hundreds of RC toys, the in-stock selection was not only limited but very frustrating. All remote control toys come with a 30 day warranty unless otherwise noted. We also noticed that many RC products said "all sales final" – which is very concerning.

In some cases they do allow product returns. If you're able to return a product you can exchange it or return it for a refund, minus a 15% return fee. If you have questions or concerns about your product you can call or email Raiden Tech, but you'll have to leave a message and wait for their response. We attempted to contact them and didn't receive a response for several days. They do offer a Live Help button, but no one was ever available on their side when we wanted to use it.

Overall, Raiden Tech provides a frustrating shopping experience. The selection of RC toys was very limited, and if you saw a product you liked, most likely it's out of stock. The return policy on most items was non-existent since they were marked “all sales final”. We also had serious concerns with a lack of customer service and responsiveness.

Continued from above

However, finding the right remote control toy at your local hobby shop can be frustrating. Most shoppers only see a few RC models to choose from, and prices are typically not very competitive. Shopping online for an RC helicopter, RC car, or RC plane is a great opportunity to quickly find the exact RC model you’re looking for, and at a price you can afford.

Before you buy your next remote control toy, there are a number of things you should consider. Some of these include:

  • Selection. Does the company offer a wide selection of remote control toys to choose from? Are the products in stock and ready to ship?
  • Prices. How do the prices compare? Will you find a quality RC car, RC helicopter, or RC plane that is built well? Or will you find an over-priced, low quality disappointment?
  • Return policy. If the remote control device doesn't work, or is not what you expected, can you return it and get your money back?
