What is the best Acne product? Acne can affect anyone, regardless of age, ethnic background, or gender. This embarrassing, uncomfortable problem can not only be physically painful but can also impact a person's self-esteem, especially during childhood and adolescence.

Several factors contribute to the development of acne, including clogged pores from makeup and sunscreen, overproduction of oil, and even reactions to chemicals and other allergens. While it may be difficult to determine the exact cause of acne, there are many products on the market that can help reduce visible breakouts, as well as fighting some of the possible causes of acne from the inside out.

Clearpores

Cost:

$50.95 and up for the herbal supplement

$64.95 and up for the 3-step system

$98.95 and up for the complete system (includes body wash/protection cream)

Shipping costs of $14.99

ClearPores guarantees that you'll see results with their acne solution in 90 days or less. They take a three-step approach to fighting breakouts:

  • Step 1: Daily Supplement. This 100% natural product includes ingredients like dandelion and burdock root, echinacea, turmeric and licorice root. The combination of ingredients is designed to help regulate hormones, maintain good blood circulation, regulate digestion, and generally keep in balance all of the internal functions most often related to acne breakouts.
  • Step 2: Deep Facial Wash. Use this to get rid of acne-producing bacteria, remove oil, and restore pH balance.
  • Step 3: Protection Cream. This lotion helps to leave the skin feeling soft, provides anti-inflammatory relief, and moisturizes.

This is not an acne program that will have you clear in a month. ClearPores tells you to expect it to take several months, as your body works out all of the toxins and sets up a new foundation for healthy skin from the inside out. Fortunately, they have a 90-day satisfaction guarantee, so if you don't start to see the results you want, you can get a refund.

ClearPores pricing is about average. If you buy several months' supply at a time, you can save up to $25. For instance, the most popular 3-step system is $64.95 for a one-month supply, but you'll only pay $169.95 for a 3-month quantity. Expect shipping fees of $14.99, no matter the size of your order. ClearPores could be more competitive within the market by offering free shipping, especially on larger orders.

We found that results with using the ClearPores regimen were split down the middle: customers either love it or hate it. Of course, the ones that saw the most results are the ones that love it. On the other hand, many people didn't see improvements - or even saw their skin get worse. This might be due to some of the harsher ingredients of the ClearPores products: both the facial wash and cream have alcohol that can be drying in the long run, which can cause the skin to increase oil production. Also, their products use paraben-based preservatives; most high-end skin products stopped using parabens many years ago (which is why you'll see "paraben-free" prominently shown on some labels).

For all of these reasons, ClearPores ranks in the middle of the pack among providers of acne products. Their inside-and-out approach is appealing for many people who want to fight their acne, but their prices and product ingredients don't work for everyone.

Cost:

$48 for a one-month supply, plus $6.95 shipping

$79.90 for a 3-month supply (free shipping)

$119.85 for a 5-month supply (free shipping)

Acnezine uses a nutritional supplement and a topical moisturizing cream to work on both the causes and the symptoms of acne. The system has been on the market for almost a decade, and some people have found relief from painful outbreaks, especially when using the capsules.

The active ingredients of the Acnezine supplement are:

  • Vitamin E Acetate
  • Vitamin C Ester
  • Hydrolyzed Collagen
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid
  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • CoQ10
  • Aloe Vera
  • Bioperine Extract

While the second component of the system is called a "moisturizing creme", it consists of 5% benzoyl peroxide. Several customers said that their skin got too dry while using it, and so they kept using just the capsules. Others said that the creme was very similar to less expensive brand-name products on the market.

Despite being around for years, we weren't impressed by Acnezine's unsecured website. We found errors that gave us pause, from telling us to drink a "lit of water" after every capsule, to misspelling the main ingredient in the moisturizing creme (such as benzoyl peroxide). The FAQ very vaguely explains that once you get the product in the mail, you'll be able to see the recommended dosage. Especially on a product that has reviews dating back almost a decade, this left us wondering if the acne product was indeed high-quality.

The instructions on the Acnezine site were also contradictory: should we take one capsule per day, one per meal, before we eat or after? That's not a great approach to taking any kind of dietary supplement.

Acnezine's return policy isn't fantastic. Although you'll see a 100% guarantee prominently featured on the site, digging into the Terms and Conditions reveals that you cannot return items that have been opened or used, and there's a $10 restocking fee for each item you send back. And, the FAQ says that if you have any medical questions about their product, you should contact your doctor: they won't give you any information about possible reasons you should or shouldn't use their acne system.

Compared with other acne solution providers, this company falls far short in many ways. We strongly recommend that you consider other acne products that have a more solid reputation.

Continued from above

In the past, people with severe acne relied on prescription-based solutions. However, as these products became more widely-used, significant side effects emerged: extreme sensitivity to sun, depression, and thinning hair, to name a few. For that reason, over-the-counter acne products have increased in popularity, giving people relief with more natural products that also have fewer side effects - and that are often much more affordable than prescription-only remedies.

When looking at the dozens of acne products available today, how can you know which one will be right for you? Which ones deliver on their promises of clean, healthy skin, and which ones are just slick marketing gimmicks that won't leave you looking or feeling your best?

As you consider any acne regimen, keep in mind these criteria to determine which one will be the right fit:

  • Effectiveness. How well does the acne product work? How soon can you expect to see visible results? Does it handle the outbreaks as well as the causes? What do other users say about their experience using the product?
  • Price. How much will you spend on your acne? Be sure to see how long you can expect the product to last (e.g. a few weeks, a month). Is it a good value for what you pay? Also, do you have to sign up for a membership and/or an automatic shipment plan to get the lowest price?
  • Convenience. How is the acne product applied? Will it be easy to remember and use all of the steps, where applicable?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best Acne Products available today. We hope this information helps you reduce your acne problems and get healthy, clear skin right away!
