Does your rec room seem empty? Do you need another game to fill the space between your pool table and ping-pong table? If so, an air hockey table might be just the thing for you.

Air hockey is a game in which two competing players try to score points in the opposing player's goal. To play air hockey, you must have a table, two mallets, and a puck. Mallets (aka goalies, strikers, or paddles) consist of a handle attached to a flat surface that lies flush with the air hockey table's surface. Air hockey tables consist of a large, smooth, playing surface that is surrounded by a rail. Two slots at either end of the table serve as goals, and puck returns can usually be found below them.

Recrooms

RECROOMS Visit Site

Recrooms specializes in game room equipment from air hockey tables, darts, foosball, pinball, and more. Shoppers will find both a strong selection of quality name-brand air hockey tables at Recrooms, and customer friendly policies as well. This company has been in the game room business since 1997 and has a strong following of happy customers.

When comparing selection and pricing to some of the big name air hockey retailers, we found that Recrooms is very competitive. From our sampling, not only are their daily prices equal to or lower than several others, but Recrooms also has a coupon offer on their website that provides an additional savings ranging from $50 to $200. Curbside delivery is always free on purchases over $49 at this retailer, which is another savings opportunity over some online stores. For those looking for more than curbside delivery, Recrooms provides inside delivery service for an additional $149, and delivery and installation service for $299 - which, in our opinion, is worth the money for a several-hundred-pound air hockey table. Additionally, Recrooms has a price match guarantee that means they will match a competitor's price of the same air hockey table, when it meets certain qualifications. Their website clearly outlines the price match policy.

The Recrooms website provides several positive customer testimonials, although it doesn't offer specific air hockey table reviews or ratings. Their search engine was also not as sophisticated as some of the larger companies. For example, we weren't able to sort by price or brand. However, it didn't take long to browse their large selection, and we didn't find this to be a major turn-off to shopping at Recrooms.

If you're not satisfied with your purchase, Recrooms provides customers 30 days to return any unused products in the original packaging for a refund, minus the cost of shipping, as well as a 20% restocking fee. Recrooms has specific policies on how to manage returns for products that are received damaged in shipping. You'll need to report any problems within 24 hours of receipt.

Overall, Recrooms offers a very nice selection of top-quality air hockey tables at competitive prices. The variety of air hockey tables and feedback from Recrooms customers pushed this company towards the top of our list. If you're in the market for an air hockey table, Recrooms definitely deserves a look.

Dick's Sporting Goods

DICK'S SPORTING GOODS Visit Site

Dick's Sporting Goods is a well know chain, which has over 250 stores in the country. For this reason, customers may feel more inclined to purchase from the company. We found their prices to be similar to the top-rated websites; however, shipping charges increased their pricing by 15% to 20%. Additionally, Dick's Sporting Goods' selection of air hockey tables is minimal at only 14 air hockey tables. In this way they fall short of other websites, which offer 40 or more alternatives.

The website is easy to navigate and has a professional appearance. Product ratings and reviews are listed as a feature of the website; however, at the time of this review, none of the air hockey tables had either. It was also not clear whether any of the tables were offered at any of the Dick's Sporting Goods physical store locations. This information would be helpful for customers wishing to avoid shipping costs.

Extended service contracts are available, as well as a six-month, interest-free promotions for customers opening a credit account with Dick's Sporting Goods. If you're not satisfied with an item you purchased, you may return the item within 30 days of delivery for a full refund of the purchase price, minus the shipping, handling, gift wrap, or other additional charges. The company does not accept exchanges at this time.

While Dick's Sporting Goods is a reputable chain, customers will be better served by purchasing from companies who specialize in air hockey tables. The top-rated websites provide features that Dick's Sporting Goods does not, including ratings and reviews, helpful information regarding the game, competitive pricing, and a wider selection of air hockey tables.

Continued from above

Most air hockey tables have a mechanism that produces a cushion of air on the playing surface to reduce friction and increase the speed of play. However, less expensive tables do not provide this air cushion and merely consist of a slick, plastic, playing surface.

Around 1969, air hockey was invented by a trio of Brunswick engineers (Phil Crossman, Bob Kenrick, and Brad Baldwin) who were attempting to create a game using a frictionless surface. Their game never quite took off, and it was put aside for several years. Bob Lemieux later resurrected the project in the early 1970's and refined the game.

By the mid-1970's, there was a large interest in air hockey tournament play. Today, serious air hockey playing bases can be found near Houston, Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, New York, Maryland, and Boston. Worldwide, air hockey hubs can be found in cities in Spain, Russia, and the Czech Republic.

When looking for an air hockey table, there are certain factors you need to consider. Some of these include:

  • Selection. Does the website offer a variety of air hockey tables to choose from?
  • Return Policy. Does the company enable you to return products for a full refund? How many days do you have to make returns?
  • Expertise. Does the website specialize in air hockey tables? Does the company provide information to help you make your table selection?
