Home Depot is one of the most recognized names in home improvement, and their selection of more than 200 air purifiers is excellent. Popular air purifiers brands that are available at Home Depot include:
The Home Depot website is one of the easiest to navigate among retailers of air purifiers. Need to order online but pick up in-store? You can set your location and check the box to only show models that are available for pick-up today. Have a particular type of filter in mind? Use the checkboxes to select from HEPA, Electrostatic, and more. Other options include Brand, Maximum Coverage Area, Type (such as Personal, Tabletop, or Whole House), Review Rating, and Price. And, if you're looking to stay coordinated with your home or office decor, you can even see your options according to Color Family.
We love how clearly the information is presented on the results page. Shoppers can tell at a glance whether a particular air purifier is available (either in-store or for delivery), its average customer rating and number of reviews, and the price. We were also very pleased to see that Home Depot's prices were consistently lower than other retailers' - sometimes by as much as 30%. Shipping is free on all orders of at least $45, which applies to almost every air purifier Home Depot sells.
Home Depot also has an excellent reputation for customer service. Their A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau demonstrates that commitment to quality, and their 90-day return policy makes it simple to take something back to a retail location or return via mail at your convenience. Just be aware that this policy applies to unopened items; if you use your air purifier and are unsatisfied for some reason, you'll need to contact Home Depot to see what your options are.
With their ample product selection, low prices and terrific reputation for great customer service, Home Depot is our favorite pick for your air purifier purchase.
As the manufacturers of the world's first residential air filter, IQAir knows what it means to provide clean air. With air purifiers for commercial and residential locations and numerous accolades received for both, this retailer is a name to know when looking for a top-of-the-line air purifier for your home or office.
The IQAir site doesn't make it easy to see what they have to offer. Shoppers either have to take a short quiz to figure out which of their models will best meet their needs, or click through multiple pages to see the individual models. There's a small green "BUY NOW" button at the upper right-hand side of the page that took us to the details we were looking for.
In summary, there are three main product lines that IQAir offers:
IQAir does offer 0% financing options for all of their room systems. Given their prices as listed above, you may need it! However, across the board, users of IQAir's air purifiers say that they are hands-down the best on the market. If you need truly clean air and can afford the steeper price tag, there are few other manufacturers on the market who can compete with what IQAir provides.
Some of the customer comments include praise like this:
Their reputation is rock-solid, with an A+ rating at the Better Business Bureau and numerous awards from Consumers Digest. And, with a 10-year limited warranty on all models, IQAir is committed to keeping your air clean for a long time. (Just be sure to register your product within 30 days of purchase.) If you do need to return your air purifier, unopened returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery with no restocking fees. Opened products will be charged a 15% restocking fee, and all returns do need a Return Authorization number.
From our perspective, there is no other air purifier currently on the market that can compare to the air quality IQAir delivers. Time and again, their results speak for themselves. But, because their selection is limited and the price may be too high for some customers, IQAir stops just short of our highest ranking for air purifiers.
For nearly 20 years, Allergy Buyers Club has served as an authorized online retailer of a wide range of manufacturers in the "healthy home" industry. When it comes to air purifiers, they carry many of the brand names in our review - such as Alen and IQAir - along with many of the popular names like Honeywell and GermGuardian. We really like how Allergy Buyers Club has taken the time to provide customers with an overview of each of the brands they carry, along with a more detailed analysis on each of their brand pages. For example, shoppers can see at a glance that Airfree is the only manufacturer that doesn't use a HEPA-style filter, while Winix is a newer brand in the marketplace that offers Energy Star compliance at a budget-friendly price.
So, why would you buy your air purifier from Allergy Buyers Club instead of directly from the manufacturer site? ABC offers several perks that may put them closer to the top of your list. First, they offer free shipping on all orders over $75 - but even more compelling are their sales. At the time of our review, they were offering 10-20% off on all orders, depending on the total cost. Just be aware that certain brands are excluded from those discounts; look for the fine print at the bottom of the page to know which ones aren't included. (Dyson and IQAir are the two that most air purifier customers will want to know).
Finally, ABC's price match guarantee gives customers the assurance of getting the lowest possible cost on the air purifier they purchase: you will need to place your order first, and then submit the request for a price match within 30 days of your order. Allergy Buyers Club will refund you the difference.
The return policy at ABC is also more generous than many retailers we reviewed. If you want to exchange or return your air purifier within 30 days of purchase, you can do so with any product that is in like-new, undamaged condition. Just make sure to reach out to their customer service department to get a Return Authorization first.
Another aspect of Allergy Buyers Club that we really like is their customer support. Their experts test, review, and rate all of the products that they sell, so that they can help their shoppers know what to expect from their purchase. This commitment is reflected in their A- rating as an accredited Better Business Bureau retailer.
However, we did find some reviews from customers that prevented us from giving Allergy Buyers Club our highest rating. Complaints included issues with tracking shipments, slow responses from the customer service department, and difficulties in getting warranty repairs/replacements.
Overall, though, Allergy Buyers Club does most things right and are a smart pick for your air purifier purchase.
If you've spent any time shopping for air purifiers, you've probably come across the Alen brand. The Alencorp company seeks to deliver the best possible air purification, based on products that meet four principles: putting customers at the center of product design, making it easy for shoppers to select the right air purifier, standing by their customers for a lifetime of clean air, and improving the quality of their customers' lives. And, from what we see, Alen does a great job of delivering on those principles.
Alen sells five different models of air purifier:
What's unique about the Alen models is that you can customize them to fit your needs - or even your decor preferences. Want one that's blue instead of white? You can do that. Click on the "start customizing" button to see what options are available, from color to filter, and you can also decide if you want replacement filters to ship automatically, making it even easier to maintain your air purifier appropriately.
So, if you can buy an Alen air purifier from one of the big-box retailers, including several in our review, why would you consider buying it directly from the Alen site? The most compelling reason is the 60-day guarantee: all products purchased directly from Alencorp allow you to try the air purifier for almost two months, to see how it impacts your health. And, if it doesn't produce the results you're looking for, Alen will refund your purchase, no questions asked. (You do have to cover the cost of return shipping, though.) You won't automatically get that from a third-party seller when you buy an Alen elsewhere; only one other retailer in our review allows customers to actually try the air purifier and return it in used condition if it doesn't work.
Another great reason to buy directly from Alen is the product bundles they offer. For example, if you're particularly targeting pet odors and dander, you may want to take a look at their "Fur Family Bundle", which saves you almost $60 over the price of buying the FIT50 and the Odor Cell HEPA filter separately.
All Alen products come with a lifetime limited warranty, guaranteeing your air purifier to be free from defects in workmanship or materials for as long as you own the unit. Be aware that the warranty is only valid in the US and Mexico; Alen recommends that you contact them for recommendations on products that can be used outside of those two countries if you need something to use anywhere else.
And, Alen has a great reputation: the company enjoys an A+ rating as a Better Business Bureau accredited company, and customer reviews are overwhelmingly positive. We recommend Alen air purifiers, especially because of the 60-day risk-free trial and the lifetime limited warranty.
Air Purifiers America offers shoppers a well-rounded selection of most of the popular brands in the industry, including Alen, GermGuardian, Honeywell, and Winix. (Noticeably absent was the Dyson brand.)
Starting from the main page, you'll find that it defaults to APA's most popular models; you'll want to uncheck the box under "Collection" if you want to see all available air purifiers. You can also use that section to narrow down your choices by Concern (such as Allergy, Dust, Chemicals, Pets), Brand, Coverage Area, Features, Color, and Price. Whichever filter options you select, you can then sort the results further from lowest to highest price (or vice-versa), or which ones are most recommended by their experts.
This company makes a point of testing every product that they sell, to make sure that they're giving their customers the best possible information before they buy. We really liked the level of detail in each products' description, including easy-to-understand information about how each air purifier works and eye-catching graphics explaining product features.
Three reasons to shop at Air Purifiers America: fast, free shipping on every purchase, 100% satisfaction guarantee, and a price match guarantee. Do make sure to read the fine print on the last two; you can indeed return your air purifier any time within 30 days from the date of purchase, not from delivery, but this is valid even if you've used the unit and decided you don't like it. There are also some specific terms for the price match guarantee, including some retailers that are excluded, but those retailers are not listed on the APA site and can only be obtained by contacting APA directly.
Another reason to shop at Air Purifiers America is their strong reputation: An A+ rating as an accredited company with the Better Business Bureau, and an average customer satisfaction score of more than 9/10 across a wide number of reviews. And, for a company that has carried BBB accreditation for nearly 15 years, we found it remarkable that there were only two total complaints registered on the BBB site.
Air Purifiers America wants to earn your business, and their price match and satisfaction guarantees do a good job of helping them stand out in the competitive market of air purifiers. Although there were a few brands absent from their product selection, we think that you'll be satisfied with your purchase through Air Purifiers America.
Lowe's is already a name you know for your home. Considering them for your air purifier purchase? That's not a bad choice; as an accredited, A+ rated business with the Better Business Bureau and with numerous retail locations for easy pick-up and returns of online orders, Lowe's knows how to keep customers happy.
Unfortunately, Lowe's has a hard time competing when it comes to prices on air purifiers. Their biggest competitor in our review usually came in significantly cheaper on the models we chose, and other online retailers often had lower prices than Lowe's as well.
On the other hand, Lowe's does offer free shipping on all orders over $49. Shipping is free for those who have a MyLowe's account, which costs nothing to open. MyLowe's members can track their in-store purchases, save shopping lists, and those who are military personnel or veterans can save 10% on any eligible purchases.
On the Lowe's site, you'll find just over 70 total options for air purifiers. GermGuardian is the brand with the most selections, followed by BlueAir, Alen, and Idylis. Prices range from $29.99 for the Idylis 2-speed model that covers an area of 35 sq.ft. to $2,499 for the BlueAir Pro XL for coverage up to 1180 sq.ft.
Unless you already have a specific brand and model in mind, the easiest way to sort through your air purifier options is to use the filters on the left side of the page. Narrow down the choices according to brand, price, certifications, filter type, rating, or suggested room size, depending on what your needs are. You'll find much more detailed information as you click on an individual model; we like that Lowe's has multiple photos of most of their air purifiers, along with detailed specifications, ratings and reviews, and even protection plans. Those can be found towards the bottom of the page.
The site isn't specific as to whether air purifiers are considered "major appliances", which only have a 30-day return policy; it appears that Lowe's general 90-day return policy applies to air purifiers, but you may want to check with the retailer if you think you may need to return your purchase.
On the whole, Lowes' is a solid choice if you find the air purifier you need. Their customer service has a great reputation, and having the option to pick up and return to a local store is appealing to many customers. Just be sure to do some comparison shopping before hitting "buy now", to make sure that you're getting the best possible price.
Airocide was developed to solve a problem: how would NASA theoretically be able to grow gardens in space to resupply crews traveling to, say, Mars, when most plants emit ethylene gas that would cause produce to ripen too quickly? Those volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, are too small to be trapped by traditional HEPA-style filters. The Airocide was NASA's solution to the problem, using a reaction chamber that destroys contaminants, rather than merely trapping them within a filter.
Now in widespread use in hospitals and clinics, schools and daycares, and a range of other locations to help prevent the spread of infectious airborne diseases, Airocide may be the top choice for people who want to do the same in their own homes.
Is Airocide the right air purifier for you? That depends. First, do you have a budget of at least $599? That's considerably higher than some other air purifiers on the market, but less expensive than others. Airocide does ship for free, saving you some money on delivery costs, and they do offer a payment plan with monthly installments of $99/month. Also, how important is it to you to filter dust out of the air you breathe? Because the Airocide sanitizes the air rather than filtering it with a more traditional HEPA-type filter, many users report having to use two air purifiers if they're looking to both kill airborne pathogens AND filter our dust and other particles.
What we love about Airocide is the 60-day Money-Back Guarantee: you can try Airocide in your home for at least six weeks, and if you don't notice a significant difference in how you feel, Airocide will let you return the air purifier (as long as it is unaltered, undamaged, and functional). They'll even cover the return shipping costs. This is essentially a risk-free trial and stands out in the market, which may make it more appealing to you as you consider which air purifier to buy.
Deciding if the Airocide is worth the try? We recommend you check out the "Life with Airocide" page on the company's website; you'll find helpful information specific to those who suffer from allergies, have a new baby in the home, are looking to manage pet dander and odors, or who simply are enthusiastic about good health. If that sounds like you, Airocide might be a good choice.
Atlas is a specific brand of air purifier, so it's no surprise that you'll find a more limited selection of equipment on their website. Their Internet store carries around two dozen Atlas-brand air purifiers, including Ozone Ionizers and Ultraviolet Light models.
Customer experiences with Atlas vary widely. On the one hand, they are an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau and maintained an A+ rating at the time of our review. We found many reviews of Atlas' air purifiers praising the units' ability to leave rooms smelling fresh and clean. However, we also found more than a few reviews that criticized Atlas for having less-than-satisfactory customer service, especially in response to shipping and billing issues.
In fact, if it weren't for the high number of compliments we found that described significant improvement in air quality after using Atlas purifiers, we probably would have ranked this retailer even lower. Their website leaves a lot of room for improvement; it looks unpolished, with oddly-worded paragraphs and non-native English grammar in many places (see the links in the Information section for some examples).
Another disturbing aspect is the lack of a clear return policy. We couldn't find one posted on the site at all, leaving us to ask if they consider it to be part of the "Terms and Conditions available upon request" as mentioned at the bottom of the site. We found a handful of customer reviews that described hefty restocking fees for returns, and that's only if they were able to get confirmation from Atlas that those returns would be accepted.
If you decide that an Atlas air purifier is what you need, we recommend that you see if your selected model is available through one of the other retailers in our review - preferably one that has a clear return policy and that offers a more professional online shopping experience.
Holmes is one of the most recognized brands in the air purifier market. Often sold at big-box retailers, Holmes' air purifiers come in a wide variety of styles and price points, with the best selection available directly from the Holmes website.
What kind of air purifier do you need? Holmes has a helpful Buying Guide if you need some guidance for your decision. You'll find it by clicking on any of the air purifiers they sell and going down to the overview section; just click on the "Buying Guide" tab.
Holmes' air purifiers run the gamut in terms of size and budget. On the small end of the scale, you'll find the Holmes Smoke Grabber Ashtray for $10.99 and the Odor-Grabber Air Purifier for $14.99. On the higher end of the scale, Holmes offers large-room options such as the Holmes Allergen Remover with True HEPA Filter for $129.99 to $159.99, depending on the features you select.
You can also use the options on the left side of the page to help you narrow down the choices according to your air quality needs. For example, if you specifically need to filter out fungus, there are only two models that do so; look in the section "Helps Remove" for specific pollutants. You can also sort by room size and filter technology.
Keep your eyes out for extra savings: when we visited the site most recently, there was an offer of a 10% discount for signing up for Holmes' email list. There was also a promo code at the top of the page offering discounts of up to 40% on filters, and when we clicked on specific air purifiers we saw a coupon code offering an extra 10% off.
If your order is $50 or more, Holmes will give you free ground shipping. For smaller order totals, expect to pay shipping costs of $3.99 for Standard, Second Day for $17.99, and Next Day for $27.99.
Holmes' reputation is a mixed bag. While its parent company, Jarden Consumer Solutions, has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and has a number of well-known, respected brands (such as Crock-Pot, Oster, and Mr. Coffee), the Holmes brand itself only carries a grade of B- with the BBB. Customer complaints include unresponsive customer service representatives, poor quality of the air purifiers, and difficulties with tracking orders. We were glad to see that they have a 30-day return policy for an exchange or refund of the purchase price, but that won't do much good if a customer can't reach a company representative.
Also, many customers report that the air purifiers don't last very long even with regular filter changes, which may put you past the 30-day return period with a product that doesn't work. Going into the product manuals will show you the warranty for each individual air purifier - most of the ones we looked at were 3-year limited warranties - but again, there were many issues reported with getting help from Holmes on product issues.
We like the wide variety of air purifiers that Holmes offers for reasonable prices, but we were less than impressed with the reputation of the Holmes brand. We hope to see it come more in line with the other respected brands within the Jarden group in the future, especially regarding attention to customer service.
How clean is the air where you live and work? While you may have taken every measure to keep out smog, pollen and other irritants by keeping your doors and windows draft-free, you might be sealing in pollutants in the process.
If you suffer from allergies to dust or pollen, or if you live with a smoker or with pets, using an air purifier can make all the difference when it comes to breathing easily. While some homes have an air purifier associated with the HVAC system, these large-scale solutions come with a hefty cost. Also, if you live in an apartment or other rental, you may not have the option to use or install a whole-house air purifier system.
Portable air purifiers may be a more appropriate choice for your air quality needs. Most machines are lightweight (under 30 pounds) and easy to move wherever you need it the most, from desktop models to larger options with wheels and handles that are designed to treat the air in multiple rooms at once.
Many of the air purifiers sold today use high-efficiency particulate air filters, commonly referred to as HEPA. These filters are designed to capture even the smallest airborne particles, leaving you with cleaner air. Of course, you'll need to change your filters regularly to keep the air purifier running well; depending on the model you choose, you should expect to replace the filter at least annually, or more often if it uses a carbon filter. Some air purifiers make use of washable filters, cutting down on your operating costs.
As you consider the air purifiers available at a particular retailer, keep in mind the following criteria:
