Sitter City

SITTER CITY

Sitter City is a solid company with a well functioning website. We would have liked to have seen background checks included on all providers but otherwise appreciated the free 7 day trial.

PHONE A BABYSITTER

Phone a Babysitter is a no frills database of potential babysitters - many younger than 18. We didn't like the lack of search functionality, pictures and missing background checks.

Care 4 Hire

CARE 4 HIRE

Care4Hire has been in operation for more than 30 years, connecting parents with babysitters and other caregivers in their area. The service lets you browse for free after entering your zip code, and you can get a no-cost 7-day trial of their full service. Membership fees are affordable, and most metro areas have a good range of available babysitters. But, Care4Hire doesn't pre-screen people who register, leaving that up to parents.

Urban Sitter

URBAN SITTER

UrbanSitter is one of the most technologically-advanced babysitter referral services on the market, harnessing the power of social networking to connect parents with babysitters that are already trusted by people they know. This service is ideal for people living in big cities, and is popular with parents who need someone last-minute. But, the company has gotten a lot of negative feedback, from an “F” rating at the BBB to numerous complaints from both babysitters and parents.

However, babysitter services can vary greatly in what they have to offer. Before you jump online to find a babysitter for your children, you should consider the following:

  • Background checks. Are background checks already completed on the babysitters that are offered? What aspects are checked?
  • Fees. What does each babysitter company charge for their service, and what does that specifically include?
  • Selection. A service with thousands of babysitters will result in a higher chance of success finding a quality babysitter. How large is the database of candidates?
