Over 13,000 barstools

TopConsumerReviews.com Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award You'll often find Wayfair at the top of our reviews across a wide spectrum of home products. That shouldn't be surprising, for a retailer that sells "a zillion things home" and genuinely carries almost everything imaginable for every type of decor, preference, and style. That's certainly true for barstools: Wayfair's inventory is nearly double our next-highest store's selection!

You might imagine that a store with more than 13,000 options for bar stools would be extremely hard to shop, but Wayfair actually has one of the most streamlined, intuitive websites of any retailer we've ever evaluated. Not only will you find dropdowns for sorting your options, but many of them give you a visual so that you know what you're selecting. Not sure what the difference is between a full back or a half back style? You'll see a clear image before you click the box. Are you looking for something ergonomic, or want to prioritize furniture that's made in the USA? You'll find those filter options too.

Because Wayfair is so popular, you can take advantage of thousands of customer reviews. One of the most highly-rated barstools we spotted was the Russett Bar & Counter Stool from Three Posts. With a 4.5-star average over more than 3700 reviews, this simple-yet-sturdy chair comes in more than 12 colors and 2 counter heights. Wayfair gives you multiple product images, so you can see each chair from several angles and in different settings, making it so much easier to see if it might be a good fit for your home too.

Scroll down through the product page and you'll find a wealth of information. On the chair we mentioned earlier, we were able to learn more about the acacia wood used in its construction, the mortise and tenon joints used to join its pieces, and a couple dozen question-and-answers from customers. For a less-than-$70 chair, we were impressed with how much effort Wayfair put into keeping their customers informed.

One thing we always enjoy doing when we shop at Wayfair is to see the most expensive items they carry among the products we're buying - and even in barstools, Wayfair doesn't disappoint. The Rivoli Bar & Counter Stool is a "bargain" at $10,124.99 - for a set of 2. It even comes in 2 sizes and 4 colors! You might be surprised to find out that the barstool has more than 800 customer reviews - and we enjoyed seeing actual photos showing how the chairs looked in real use. If you're looking for a high-end barstool, you may really like this model.

On either end of the budget spectrum, you'll have a hard time finding another retailer with prices that can beat Wayfair's, including their free shipping on all orders over $49. But, their return policy isn't as competitive, with 30 days to send it back in unused/unassembled condition, and with no retail locations for this store you'll have to spend the cash to ship back your purchase.

And yet, we have found hundreds of customer testimonials describing how Wayfair shipped replacement items for damaged or defective items - without even requiring the return to be received first. Wayfair has a strong commitment to making customers happy, which we appreciate.

Wayfair is absolutely the name to beat when it comes to barstools. You'll find great pricing across thousands of options, an easily-navigated website that makes it almost effortless to find the right furniture for your home, and more than enough information pre-purchase to ensure that your barstools have the sizing, look and feel you've been envisioning. Wayfair earns our highest recommendation.

Cost:

From $61 to $1,125

Selection:

Over 400 barstools

At first glance, Barstool Direct looks like it could be a good option when shopping for counter stools and barstools. This retailer offers some customer-friendly perks like free shipping on every order and a "price beat" guarantee. You might get extra savings from pop-ups as you visit the Barstool Direct site. During our most recent shopping trip there, we got a 10% discount code if we signed up for their email list. Ironically, at the bottom of the site, there was a permanent offer of a 12% discount for signing up, so it could be anyone's guess which discount you'd actually get.

Barstool Direct carries a decent range of brands, with nearly 20 to choose from, and an inventory of just over 400 models and styles. On the main page of the site, there's a helpful guide to measuring your counter/bar height to get the right chair height to match.

This online store isn't as easy to use as some of its competitors' sites. To find the kind of barstool you're looking for, you'll have to start by clicking on the category - Wooden, Metal, Counter, Bar, etc. - and then select an attribute like features or finish. We would prefer a way to sort everything at the same time, rather than having to click through those options.

You might not get much detail when you click on a barstool that interests you. We were able to see basic dimensions, item weight, and processing time frame (6 weeks on some of the ones we considered!), but nothing about materials used, whether assembly would be required, etc. That seems to depend on the manufacturer/brand - some barstools had that information, while others lacked a description and had a very small product image.

In our last review of Barstool Direct, we found several areas of concern - and we were hoping to see positive changes since that time. Unfortunately, this company's reputation has actually gotten worse. The Better Business Bureau revoked the accreditation of Barstool Direct's parent company, Peazz, in mid-2019 for failing to respond promptly and professionally to customer complaints.

As we looked through dozens of negative reviews from unhappy shoppers, it was easy to see a pattern: credit cards charged for items that hadn't shipped, no responses when requesting a return, lack of response from customer representatives, and many other problems. That definitely doesn't sound like the company is making good on their "Peace of Mind Guarantee" for customer satisfaction. We also found that Barstool Direct makes it hard to get a refund with their 30-day return policy, often failing to respond to customers within that 1-month period.

With so many retailers of barstools who go to great lengths to keep their customers happy, there's just no good reason to shop with Barstool Direct. We encourage you to consider the higher-rated stores in our review.

Fortunately, there's an easy solution to the problem: buying barstools online. There's no easier way to compare all of the possibilities, leading you to the furniture that's exactly the right color, height and price with just a few clicks. Many of the retailers offering barstools have helpful tools on their site that can guide you through the process of taking measurements to ensure the best fit.

Best of all, these online stores usually offer customer-friendly perks like free delivery, generous return policies, and rewards programs that can save you money over their already-competitive prices. Why spend every weekend hoping to find your barstools locally - and then wondering how you'll fit them in your car for the drive home - when you can get exactly what you want shipped right to your front door?

With so many online stores offering barstools, how can you tell which one should get your business? Not all retailers are created equal, so use these criteria as a starting point for your shopping experience:

  • Selection. How many styles does the store carry? Does the retailer have a wide enough range for you to choose from in the height/material/price point you're considering?
  • Price. How competitive are the prices on barstools? Does the store offer a price match guarantee or any other extra savings?
  • Return Policy. If your barstools arrive and they're not a good fit, either in style or height, can you return them? What requirements do you have to follow to be eligible for a refund?
  • Reputation. What do other shoppers say about their experience with the retailer? Is the company rated by the BBB?
