We often hear about babies suffering from acid reflux, but it's a common issue experienced by adults as well. Also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), acid reflux affects nearly 60 million Americans at least once a month. It's totally normal to experience acid reflux symptoms now and again, but in some cases it can become a chronic and potentially serious condition that will not go away on its own.
You're most prone to acid reflux symptoms if you're overweight, pregnant, smoking or exposed to second-hand smoke, or eat a lot of spicy, dairy, or fried foods. Most people experience acid reflux as a burning feeling or pain in your chest after eating. This happens if the valve at the end of your esophagus doesn't close properly when food arrives at your stomach.

Nexium is a popular acid reducer used to help with heartburn all day and night. It is made by the same company that manufactures and sells Advil, Centrum, and Voltaren. For less than $30, customers will get 3 bottles of the supplement that allow them the freedom to eat a wider range of foods without worrying about heartburn every day. It can handle GERD, ulcers, and other stomach acid-related conditions.
Blocks body's acid pumps for relief
A single package of Nexium includes 42 acid reducer heartburn relief capsules. The idea is that it blocks acid at the source and turns the body's acid pumps from on to off to protect from heartburn. It may take between 1 and 4 days for the full effects of Nexium to kick in, but users only have to take 1 capsule per day for full 24-hour relief. This means you'll get three 14-day courses with each purchase.
Affordable, but non-returnable
Nexium is eligible for HSA and FSA payment methods. The cost for one package of supplements is just $23.59 and qualifies for free shipping. This is a fantastic price compared to what some other retailers charge for similar products. Nexium is non-returnable, so it is only eligible for replacement or refund if it arrives damaged.
1 pill per day
You only need to swallow one pill before eating in the morning to get round-the-clock protection from heartburn that usually flares up after eating certain things like spicy, high-fat, and acidic foods as well as caffeinated drinks, soda, alcohol, or even from stress. Nexium is only meant for people ages 18 or older.
Read through safety information
There is just one single active ingredient in Nexium: Esomeprazole, which is an acid reducer. The inactive ingredients include Corn Starch, D&C Red No. 28, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Red No. 40, Ferric Oxide, Gelatin, Glyceryl Monostearate, Hydroxypropyl Cellulose, Hypromellose, Magnesium Stearate, Methacrylic Acid Copolymer, Pharmaceutical Ink, Polysorbate 80, Sucrose, Talc, Titanium Dioxide, and Triethyl Citrate. Pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as those who have had long-term heartburn should consult their doctor before taking Nexium. In addition, there is a list of other medications it can interfere with, so we recommend reading through all the safety information before deciding to purchase this supplement.
Incredibly high reviews
Nexium is undoubtedly one of the most widely-used over-the-counter medications to deal with acid reflux. There are over 12,000 customer reviews about the effectiveness of it, resulting in a 4.8 out of 5 star rating, which is fantastic. Unsurprisingly, people are very happy about the price of Nexium, but they also say it is extremely effective. Some people have used it for years and say it's the only thing that works for them.
This is a great option if you aren't worried about it having any side-effects or interfering with other medications you're currently using. Nexium has earned our highest rating for acid reflux products.

Use consistently for best results
To use Acid Free-Flux, customers are instructed to mix 0.50 mL in 1/4 cup of water and sip it slowly. This can be repeated every 20-30 minutes as symptoms persist. However, if you prefer, you could take the drops directly in the mouth. There is no set timeframe for when the product is supposed to work, but Native Remedies says it works over time and best results are achieved with consistency. The amount of time a bottle lasts will be based on how frequently you're using it, but it should be able to last about 120 days, which gives you great value for the money.
Buy more, save more
Native Remedies is often running promotions to help you save money if you're buying more than one product from their store. At the time of this review, they had a "Buy 2 get 1 free" offer, so if you plan to use Acid Free-Flux long-term, it would be a great time to stock up or try some of the other remedies offered by the company. The cost for a 2 fl oz bottle of Acid Free-Flux is $39.95. If you decide to get it auto-delivered every 4, 6, 8, or 12 weeks, you'll save 15% on the price. They've easily earned one of our highest ratings among providers of acid reflux products.
Omeprazole is made and sold by GoodSense, a company that has a line of self-care products to handle allergies, indigestion, pain and fever, cold and flu, sleep difficulties, and more. Omeprazole is an acid reducer and fights frequent heartburn that occurs 2 or more times a week. Its active ingredient deactivates pumps in the stomach lining to reduce acid production at the source.
Reduces acid production
Each purchase of Omeprazole comes with 3 bottles of wildberry mint flavored tablets, with 14 in each bottle. This is enough for a full 14-day course done three times. With each pill, relief should last a full 24 hours, though it may take up to 4 days to feel the full effects. Like some other similar products, Omeprazole was formulated to deactivate the pumps in the lining of the stomach and reduce acid production straight at the source.
Take once daily
Omeprazole should be taken daily with a glass of water before eating in the morning. The tablets should be swallowed whole rather than being chewed, crushed, or sucked on. Users should only use the over-the-counter medication for a full 14 days and then take at least a 4 month break before using it again, unless directed otherwise by a healthcare professional.
For ages 18 and older
Omeprazole is the active ingredient in the product itself. Inactive ingredients include benzyl alcohol, carmine, carnauba wax, FD&C blue #2/indigo carmine aluminum lake, flavor, hypromellose, hypromellose acetate succinate, lactose monohydrate, menthol, modified starch, monoethanolamine, polyethylene glycol 3350, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium starch glycolate, sodium stearate, sodium stearyl fumarate, sucralose, talc, titanium dioxide, triacetin, and triethyl citrate. The product is meant for people aged 18 or older and comes with a list of safety information that should be read before purchase.
Subscribe and save
One purchase of Omeprazole will last a customer months, so it's nice to know that all you have to spend for this relief is $15.19. If you know this is a medication you'll be taking long-term, it might be worth it to sign up for a subscription and save 15% on repeat deliveries. You'll save 40% on your first subscription order and you can cancel at any time, so you aren't ever locked into anything. Omeprazole qualifies for free shipping, so when it comes to cost, you are getting a great deal with this product. It isn't returnable, but you don't have a lot to lose if you're spending under $20 for something that might bring your life a lot of relief.
The real test for Omeprazole is seeing how customers feel about their purchase of it. Luckily, it is well-liked with over 6,000 reviews and a 4.8 out of 5 star rating. You used to need a prescription for Omeprazole, so customers are thrilled to be able to get it whenever they need and not have to pay much for it. People say it works as well as other, more expensive brands, works wonders on chronic heartburn, and it's effective in preventing acid reflux regardless of what the customer eats. There are pages of rave reviews for Omeprazole. As long as this is a safe product for you that doesn't cause allergic reactions or interact with other medications you're taking, we highly recommend giving it a try.
Pepcid AC is one of three products in the Pepcid family that targets acid production to reduce heartburn. It is made and manufactured by Johnson & Johnson-Merck Consumer Pharmaceuticals Co., a company with an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau. Pepcid AC is meant to protect users all day long and night so they can enjoy their favorite foods without the pain of acid reflux.
Works within minutes
Pepcid AC comes in tablet form and only needs to be taken once a day. It can be taken as early as 60 minutes before eating a meal or as little as 15 minutes before consuming food and should work within minutes. This is something that Pepcid AC boasts over their competitors is that as soon as you start taking it, you'll feel the benefits rather than having to wait a few days for it to "kick in" .
You can purchase Pepcid AC in a pack of 25, 50, or 75. A 25-count pack is $9.38, a 50 pack is $16.54, and for just $20.99 you'll get 75 tablets. All options qualify for free shipping, but are non-returnable. Since Pepcid AC is only meant to provide acid reflux protection for 12 hours, you may need to take up to 2 pills per day, but users shouldn't exceed this within 24 hours. So, when purchasing a pack of tablets, keep in mind that they include enough for half of the amount of days as the quantity included.
3 versions of Pepcid
The main active ingredient in Pepcid AC is Famotidine. The maximum strength version includes 20 mg, but Pepcid AC also comes in an original version that contains 10 mg for less intense symptoms. They also make a Pepcid Complete product with 10 mg of Famotidine, 800 mg of Calcium Carbonate and Magnesium Hydroxide that works as an antacid. They're safe for people aged 12 and older, but shouldn't need to be taken more than 14 days in a row.
One of the best
The main difference besides ingredients in Pepcid AC and other highly-rated acid reflux products is that you may need to take 2 tablets per day for full 24-hour relief instead of just one. If you want a product that works quickly, this is a fantastic option with tens of thousands of positive customer reviews. People say it works exactly as described and provides fast relief. Across the board nearly every person who has commented on Pepcid AC has given it rave reviews and claims it is by far one of the best products on the market. We're glad this option is readily available and affordable, so it's definitely worth considering.
Prevacid 24-hour Lansoprazole Delayed-Release Capsules are an acid reducer formulated to keep heartburn pain at bay for 24 hours. Although it's made up of slightly different ingredients, the effect of the over-the-counter medication is similar to many other acid reflux products in that it turns off the pumps that produce acid in the body, thereby reducing heartburn.
One capsule a day keeps heartburn away
Each package of Prevacid contains 42 capsules, which is enough for three 14-day courses. This means you only need one pill per day to get full 24-hour relief from your discomfort. However, we wish that the company was more specific about when you should take Prevacid. Is it an hour before your first meal? Can you take it in conjunction with your food? Unfortunately, they don't spell this out. However, we do know that it can take up to four days for Prevacid to take effect, so you shouldn't expect immediate results right after purchase. For some lucky people they say that it works right away, but this isn't guaranteed.
Reduces excess acid
The main ingredient in Prevacid is Lansoprazole, an acid reducer that helps keep heartburn at bay for 24 hours. Inside your stomach are millions of little "spigots" called proton pumps that release acid to digest food. Sometimes this acid comes up into the esophagus and causes heartburn, but Lansoprazole works to turn off many of the pumps to prevent excess stomach acid. This formula is safe for people ages 18 and older, but may work for younger people who get cleared by their doctor first.
One purchase of Prevacid comes with 42 capsules in a small bottle. It's priced at $19 and qualifies for free shipping. This is very reasonable pricing and you shouldn't have to buy Prevacid too often since it's only meant to be used in 14-day increments every 4 months.
Something you get by purchasing Prevacid that you don't get with many other medications is a guarantee from the company that you'll be satisfied with the product. GSK Consumer Healthcare Products say they will provide customers with a refund for any of their healthcare products within 45 days of purchase if they're unsatisfied. However, it isn't specified whether or not customers are able to try out the medication and still get a refund or if the package needs to be in new, unused condition.
The company that makes and manufactures Prevacid has changed over the years. GSK Consumer Healthcare Products guarantees the medication, but a company by the name of Novartis Consumer Healthcare is listed as the manufacturer and a quick search shows that Prevacid is registered under Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A.
Effective without being too powerful
This product has been on the market for quite a few years and has thousands of customer reviews that attest to its efficacy. People who have been taking it for years say it works exactly as they would hope without being too strong like some other highly-rated products. As long as you follow the provided directions, you'll be able to find plenty of relief and stop worrying about the pain caused by acid reflux or GERD. We like that Prevacid comes with a guarantee, making it a good, affordable, and highly-rated option.
Prilosec is an over-the-counter (OTC) acid reducer made and manufactured by Procter and Gamble. It comes in tablet form and is meant to block frequent heartburn symptoms all day long with each pill you take. The company says Prilosec was the first OTC proton pump inhibitor that prevents excess acids from coming up into the esophagus and causing discomfort during digestion. However, we know it isn't the only one since the purpose of this medication is nearly the same as others in this review.
One pack of Prilosec includes 42 pills and you'll get 2 packs with each purchase. They're meant to be taken 14 days at a time with a 4 month window in between. Users are instructed to swallow 1 tablet with a glass of water before eating in the morning. Although some people will feel relief from their acid reflux symptoms within 24 hours, it could take anywhere from 1 - 4 days to notice a difference with this medication.
Safe for ages 18 and older
The active ingredient in each tablet of Prilosec is Omeprazole Magnesium (20.6 mg) and it was made to be safely taken by adults ages 18 years or older. If you're taking warfarin, prescription anti-fungal medicines, diazepam, digoxin, tacrolimus, or atazanavir, you should hold off on taking Prilosec and consult with your doctor first. This is also the case for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
More expensive than competitors
What you're getting with Prilosec is extremely similar to what other companies offer with their over-the-counter acid reflux products. The regimen is similar as well as the amount of pills you're getting in each package. However, Prilosec is more expensive than many of the other options at $47.99 since you have to buy two packs together. It's eligible for free shipping and does differ in that it can be returned for a refund in its original condition within 30 days of receipt. This isn't helpful if you've given Prilosec a try and are unhappy with the results, but rather if you change your mind about it before taking it at all.
More bang for your buck elsewhere
The makers of Prilosec, Procter and Gamble, have an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, which is great. However, as far as individual product ratings go, Prilosec doesn't have as big of a fan club as many of the other acid reflux options. The reviews are exceptionally high, but there are only a few hundred in comparison to tens of thousands like some other products have. It seems that for most people, this is an amazing product that provides relief as they hoped. However, there are other OTC acid reflux products that do this as well for less money. Because of this, Prilosec has earned an average rating from us.
Zegerid OTC is an acid reflux solution for people who deal with frequent heartburn that occurs two or more days per week. The product comes in capsule form and contains a proton pump inhibitor to block acid production at the source. It's an effective option for people who feel chest pain after eating certain foods in their diet but still want to be able to healthily digest their meals.
Comes in a 2-pack
Each package of Zegerid includes three 14-day courses and when you buy Zegerid you're getting two packs, which ends up being enough for six 14-day courses. You'll be getting 84 capsules in total, which will last a while considering people shouldn't use Zegerid more than 4 months at a time. This may be more than some people wish to purchase, especially as it raises your cost to $44.90 rather than paying about half that for other highly-rated OTC acid reflux products that come in a single pack.
When taken as directed, Zegerid's main active ingredient Omeprazole alleviates heartburn and acid reflux problems. The other active ingredient, Sodium Bicarbonate, is meant to add extra efficacy to Zegerid by protecting the medicine from acids in the stomach that could weaken its strength. Zegerid is not intended for immediate relief, so it could take up to 4 days to take full effect. Users are instructed to swallow one pill each morning with water at least 1 hour before eating in the morning to get 24 hours of symptom relief.
Read safety information
Zegerid is meant to be taken by adults ages 18 and older. Like all other medications, it comes with safety warnings for pregnant and breastfeeding women urging them to consult with a healthcare provider before use. In addition, it could interfere with warfarin, clopidogrel, cilostazol (blood thinning medications, antifungal medicines, and diazepam, so it's a good idea to run it by your doctor before starting a regimen.
30-day return policy
There is no money-back guarantee for Zegerid promising that you'll get the effects you want, but you can return the product within 30 days for a full refund. The catch is that Zegerid has to be in its original condition and packaging in order to qualify for the refund, so you can't try it out beforehand.
Incredibly high customer satisfaction
Across the board, most customers say that Zegerid works exactly as described and showed up quickly. It has almost a 100% satisfaction rating, which is fantastic. Unfortunately, there aren't as many customer reviews as we've seen on other products, which tells us that this might not be as popular of an acid reflux solution, but it is obviously still an effective one. The only reason Zegerid hasn't earned a higher rating from us is due to the fact that you have to purchase a 2-pack, which makes the overall cost higher and may be unnecessary for some customers.
Digestinol-L-Glutamine is formulated and sold by a company by the name of Digestinol Worldwide. They are a health research foundation that has been in business since 1995 focusing their resources on using aloe "Poly-sacc-ha-rides" that have shown strong benefits in aiding digestive disease. Their products are formulated to benefit people suffering from Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Gastritis, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), and more.
One bottle of Digestinol-L-Glutamine includes 270 capsules, but Digestinol doesn't have a very updated website and they don't include a clear picture of the bottle or information about how many of the capsules should be taken per dose. The majority of the information about this product goes over the science and benefits of L-Glutamine. In short, it is an amino acid used by the immune system to keep it running smoothly to support the digestive tract, muscle cells, and other bodily functions.
No ingredient information
As much as we want all the big promises and explanations of the way Digestinol-L-Glutamine can heroically restore digestive health, we need to know more about the supplement itself. Besides not knowing the dosing and how long a bottle will last, we also aren't sure what all the ingredients are. All that's listed is that it's "100% non-toxic with no negative side effects." This is hard to know for sure when some people are sensitive to certain ingredients and some supplements can interact with other drugs. We are disappointed by the lack of transparency about the makeup of Digestinol-L-Glutamine.
Considering Digestinol-L-Glutamine doesn't come with a lot of information about its composition, it seems like a big ask to pay $159 for a bottle of it. This is definitely one of the most expensive supplements we've reviewed. You can purchase a single bottle or save $10 and buy two bottles ($308) or three bottles for $439 and save $38. For $856 you will save $98 altogether and purchase six bottles of Digestinol-L-Glutamine. No matter how you go about it, this is quite a bit of money. On top of this, you'll need to pay for shipping which ranges anywhere from $8 to $45 depending on how fast you want your order to arrive.
Weak return policy
The return policy through Digestinol doesn't serve you if you've tried out the supplement and find that it doesn't work for you. They give 60 days from the date of purchase to get a full refund (minus shipping/handling), but only unopened bottles of Digestinol-L-Glutamine qualify.
Rave reviews on the website
There are over two dozen reviews left by customers about the efficacy of Digestinol-L-Glutamine on their website, but it's hard to tell if they are filtered or not. All of them were left in 2019 or earlier and give the supplement a solid 5 out of 5 stars. Everyone gives an impressive explanation of how Digestinol has been a miracle-worker for them or their loved ones and spells out how this is the best product they've found on the market. However, we wish there were more reviews to go off of and we don't like that there aren't any recent ones.
Try something else first
The Better Business Bureau doesn't have a profile or rating for Digestinol and they don't have a lot of customer reviews elsewhere either. Based on their website, this doesn't seem like a high quality place to purchase an expensive supplement to help with acid reflux. Before spending so much money, it would probably be in your best interest to try a higher-rated product first.
Acid backwash flows upwards back through the esophagus creating an uncomfortable burning sensation and can give you a sour taste in your mouth. This happens to nearly everyone at some point in their life, but if you're experiencing acid reflux more than twice a week, you'll want to look into products that can ease your discomfort.
While some people suffering from chronic acid reflux may need surgery or prescription medications, it's worth trying over-the-counter options first to see if they reduce or eliminate your symptoms. There are quite a few out there, so you can compare pricing between retailers online as well as ingredients, customer reviews, shipping speeds, and more. It's convenient to have the product delivered right to your door so you can find relief as soon as possible.
There are many companies that sell acid reflux products. You'll want to make sure you find something safe and effective, so here are a few things to take into consideration when buying online:
