For anyone, acne is an annoying problem to have. No matter what age you are it can be very painful, and often times acne "miracle creams" fail to deliver on their promises. Dealing with red and unattractive skin is unpleasant- but there is good news! Following these tips, can help you prevent unwanted and unnecessary acne. And while there is no sure-fire way to prevent acne, this advice can improve your chances of reducing the chances of acne before it starts.
Keep Your Face Healthy. The most efficient way to stay acne-free is to keep your face clean and healthy. Avoid touching your face with your hands, as that spreads nasty bacteria, and stay away from oil-based products. It's also important to wear sunscreen to avoid burns, which can kill your skin cells and plug your pores. If you can train yourself to do so, try sleeping on your back to avoid contact between your face and your pillow, again minimizing the spread of bacteria. And for women, it's crucial to refrain from heavy make-ups and to always wash off your make-up before bed. Wearing mineral and powder based foundations are also excellent ways to cover-up and counter-act. Other ways to bypass the bacteria can include: moisturizing (with a non-oil based lotion!) to keep off dead skin cells, showering after you exercise, using make-up applicators to skip touching your face, and trying to refrain from wearing lots of hats or scarves that can trap oils in your pores. If you suffer from acne on the body, it can be helpful to invest in a salicylic acid body wash that can fight pimples there too. The most important way to prevent acne is to always wash your face before bed.
Keep Your Lifestyle Healthy. What many people don't realize is that the way we regularly live can affect the amount of acne we face. Making unhealthy life choices- whether physical or mental, can cause our bodies to produce more acne, then it otherwise would. One very important pre-caution is drinking water, which cleans and detoxifies our systems. Also try to abstain from too much time spent in the sun, which can not only cause acne, but create worse problems such as skin cancer. One important tip to remember is to not smoke. Smoking has been proven to cause many health problems and it's also a big source of acne for adults. And small things like getting enough sleep and taking time to relax are important to avoid a hormonal imbalance and an onslaught of acne. Although there is no proven correlation between eating healthy and the amount of acne we suffer from, many people feel healthier and better about their skin, when eating right.
Keep Your Environment Healthy. Along with keeping your face and life clean, it's important to keep your environment clean. Make sure not to share facial towels in order to dodge the transferring of bacteria; and wash your pillow case frequently- again to escape pore clogging bacteria. Even seemingly silly things like washing your glasses often and keeping your cell phone clean, can minimize the spread of acne.
Of course if you still suffer from acne after these tips, try experimenting with different over-the-counter acne products before consulting a dermatologist. Many of these products can actively fight your pimples, and coupled with these prevention tips - your acne can be better managed in no time!
