On the Levoit website

Levoit, under their parent brand Vesync, sells humidifiers, tower fans, vacuums, and, of course, air purifiers. They have options for small spaces (up to 200 square feet), medium areas (200-300 square feet), and larger spaces (300-500+ square feet). Levoit provides 4 compact air purifier models for small rooms, 5 options for medium-sized areas, and 10 powerful choices for larger spaces, with prices ranging from $49.99 to $499.99 across all categories. Depending on the air purifier you buy, you'll pay between $22.99 and $99.99 for a replacement filter.

Core series for $50 to $250

The Core Series is great for everyday air cleaning. Prices start at $49.99 and go up to $249.99. You get good performance without spending too much. Many of these air purifiers have 3-stage filtration, run quietly, and can be controlled with your phone. The bestseller in this series is the Levoit Core Mini Air Purifier, priced at $49.99. It's perfect for small spaces like your kitchen, bedroom, or home office. This compact purifier can clean the air in rooms up to 178 square feet. It has some cool features like 3-stage filtration to remove different types of air pollutants, an aromatherapy option where you can add essential oils, high performance VortexAir technology, and ultra-quiet operation so it won't disturb you. Customers say it works well during allergy season and helps with dust. Some people had issues with their purifier stopping working, but Levoit offered to replace those units.

Vital series for $120 to $190

Looking for a stylish air purifier that works great? Check out the Vital Series. These purifiers cost between $119.99 and $189.99. They're compact but powerful, moving large volumes of air to keep your room fresh. While they don't have as many smart features as the Core Series, they're perfect if you want clean air and a modern look for your home. The star of the Vital Series is the Vital 200S Smart Air Purifier, priced at $189.99. This purifier can send clean air to every corner of your room. It has a special 3-stage filter and a U-shaped air inlet for catching pet fur. You can control it with your phone or voice commands. It tells you when to change the filter and shows you real-time air quality readings. It also has an auto mode that adjusts itself and a sleep mode for quiet nights. You can set schedules and monitor air quality easily. Many users love that they can "set it and forget it." However, some people don't like that the app has too many extra features. According to one reviewer, you can't control how often you get notifications, which can be annoying when it keeps telling you the air quality is good. Despite these small issues and the higher price, most customers really like this purifier. They say it works well and Levoit's customer service is great if you need help.

EverestAir model is unreviewed

If you've got a room that's 750 square feet or below, the EverestAir Series might be just what you're looking for. There's only one model in this premium line, and it's priced at $499.99. You might appreciate the smart control features that let you adjust settings from your phone or with voice commands. The EverestAir keeps you in the know with its filter check indicator and real-time readings of PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10 particles. You can even fine-tune the airflow with adjustable vent angles. Need to move it around? No problem. This model comes with wheels for easy mobility. It'll show you the percentage of clean air in your room, so you'll always know how it's performing. And when it's time to catch some Z's, just switch on sleep mode for quiet operation. Like other Levoit purifiers, the EverestAir uses a 3-stage filtration system. There were no customer reviews for this model yet.

Best Air Purifiers

PlasmaPro for $290 to $350

Priced between $289.99 and $349.99, the PlasmaPro Series takes air purification to the next level. If you're looking for air purification that goes beyond basic HEPA filtration, this series is for you. You'll get smart controls, notifications, and air quality indicators to keep you informed. The PlasmaPro 400S Smart Air Purifier is the best selling model from this line, and its lowest-priced. This air purifier uses powerful ionization and smart features to eliminate odors in your indoor air quickly. (Some people are on the fence about ionization - it seems you can turn this function off if it bothers you.) The purifier automatically adjusts its speed based on air quality. Keep in mind that its cylindrical shape might not fit perfectly in corners, and the lights can't be turned off, which could be a bit distracting at night. Customers love it, though, giving it an average rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars based on 183 reviews.

LV series for those on a budget

Lastly, the LV series ranges from $39.97 to $236.98 - these air purifiers typically offer no-frills simple operation without smart features or advanced settings. If you're on a tight budget or just need a basic air purifier for a smaller space, check out the bestselling LV-H132 Personal Air Purifier priced at $89.99. It's small, has 3-stage filtration, an LED display, operates quietly, and has 3 timer settings and a sleep mode.

30-day return policy

If you buy an air purifier from Levoit, you have 30 days to return it if you're not satisfied, even if it's used. You'll need to get a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number from Levoit support before sending it back. Make sure to return the purifier in its original packaging with all accessories. Levoit will email you a pre-paid shipping label to print and attach to the box along with the RMA slip. Once Levoit receives the returned item, they'll process your refund within 30 days. Just so you know, if you bought the purifier from another retailer, you'll need to follow their return policy instead: Levoit won't accept your return.

2-year warranty

Your Levoit air purifier comes with a two-year limited warranty from the date of purchase. This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, as long as you've used the product according to its instructions. If something goes wrong, Arovast (Levoit's parent company) might refund your purchase, repair the defect, or replace your air purifier with an equal or better model. Don't forget to have your proof of purchase and details about the defect ready; you'll need them to claim your warranty.

Mixed reviews on customer service

Levoit has a "B" rating from the Better Business Bureau, which is not bad for an air purifier company. Reviews about their customer service are mixed, though. Some people have had good experiences, like one customer who contacted Levoit after a fan broke and quickly got a new unit sent to them. However, there was one very worrying review on Trustpilot. A customer claimed their Levoit air purifier caused a fire in their apartment, destroying everything and killing their two cats. When they contacted Levoit, the company referred them to a law firm. The customer said the law firm treated them badly and tried to avoid holding Levoit responsible. This seems to be a rare case, as we didn't find any recalls for Levoit air purifiers. Still, we would be remiss if we didn't mention it. It may be a good idea to turn off your air purifier before you leave the house.

Air purification nerds say "no" to Levoit

On Reddit, there's a community of air purification geeks who take their indoor air quality very seriously. They scrutinize every aspect of air purifiers, and they've taken issue with Levoit. According to these users, Levoit air purifiers have several shortcomings. They criticize Levoit's filter design, claiming that the lack of proper pre-filtering reduces the lifespan of the HEPA filter. They also point out that Levoit units have insufficient carbon filtration for odor removal. Other complaints include poor fan design that allows unfiltered air to enter the path of purified air, louder operation compared to competitors, and controversially, not meeting True HEPA standards despite the company's claims. While these Redditors acknowledge that Levoit purifiers do clean air "pretty well," they often recommend other brands for those willing to invest more in their air quality.

Can't fully recommend them

So, what's our verdict on Levoit air purifiers? They seem to do a decent job for most people, though we can't give them our highest recommendation. Many everyday users find Levoit purifiers satisfactory, but there are those concerns about fan design and not meeting True HEPA standards. If you're really serious about your air quality, you might want to look into other brands. But remember, it's your choice - think about what matters most to you in an air purifier and go from there.

Which Air Purifier is the Best?

Imagine coming home after a long day, only to be greeted by a stuffy atmosphere and a musty smell in your living room. You open the windows, but the outdoor air carries in pollen that makes you sneeze. Sound familiar? An air purifier might be just what you need.

These devices can help remove pollutants, allergens, and odors from the air to make your space cleaner and more comfortable. While not a substitute for other preventive measures, air purifiers with HEPA filters may also help reduce the risk of airborne transmission of viruses, including the one that causes COVID-19, by removing particles from the air.

Many people can benefit from using an air purifier. If you have allergies or asthma, an air purifier can help reduce symptoms by removing irritants like pollen, dust, and pet dander from the air. If you live in an area with high pollution levels or wildfires, an air purifier can help filter out harmful particles. Even if you don't have specific health concerns, an air purifier can help improve overall air quality and eliminate unpleasant odors.

There are several types of air purifiers available, each using different technologies to clean the air. HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters are the most common. They can remove 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. This includes dust, pollen, and some bacteria.

Activated carbon filters are great for removing odors and gasses. They work well for getting rid of cooking smells, smoke, and chemical fumes.

UV-C light purifiers use ultraviolet light to kill bacteria and viruses. They're often combined with other types of filters for more thorough air cleaning.

Ionizers release negatively charged ions that attach to airborne particles, making them too heavy to stay in the air. However, ionizers can produce ozone, which can be harmful to your health.

Air Purifier FAQ

What is an air purifier?
Air purifiers are machines that clean the air in a room or in an entire home or office. They remove pollutants like pollen, pet dander, and dust mites from the air you breathe. Given that the EPA says that the level of indoor pollutants can be as much as five times higher than outdoors, it's obvious why so many people use an air purifier to breathe easy!
How does an air purifier work?
An air purifier draws in the air from the environment, passes it through a filter that catches pollutants and/or odors (depending on the filtration type you choose), and pushes out clean air into the room. Some purifiers are portable, while others are installed with your HVAC system to clean the air in your whole house.
What's the difference between a carbon filter and a HEPA filter?
HEPA stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Air; these filters remove 99.97% of any particles that are 0.3 microns or larger, making them the best choice if you're trying to remove dust mite residue, pollen and pet dander particles from your air. Carbon filters target chemicals and odors, like cigarette smoke, kitchen smells, pet odor, and so on.
Are air purifiers expensive?
They can be - but they don't have to be. You can find small single-room air purifiers for under $60, but most fall in the $200-$700 range. Whole-house air purification systems are going to be the most costly, usually from $1,000 to $5,000+ (which includes professional installation). And, don't forget to factor in the cost of filters, which will need to be replaced periodically depending on the manufacturer's recommendations.
How often do I need to change the filters on my air purifier?
Check the instructions on your machine. Yours may have filters that can be cleaned and reused, or they may have to be replaced every time. Expect your air purifier to have anywhere from 2-6 filters that need to be changed every 6-12 months - but again, be sure to read the specs on your particular air purifier and follow the recommended maintenance schedule.
How long should I run my air purifier?
Most manufacturers recommend running your air purifier continuously. If yours comes with multiple speeds, you can set it to a lower speed while you're away to save energy and then turn it up when you return.
How much space will my air purifier cover?
That depends on the machine you choose. If you buy a portable one designed to cover a single room, it will typically cover up to 700 sq.ft. Read the specs carefully to determine if the air purifier you're considering will be effective in the space where you intend to use it. For larger-scale air purification, a whole-house model might be a better investment.
Will an air purifier be noisy?
Not necessarily. Most machines will be louder when you first turn them on, to get a good start on cleaning the air in the room you're in. But, once the pollutants have largely been removed, the fan speed usually slows down automatically for quieter operation. They're typically not much louder than a portable fan.
