After finding that insurance shopping was exasperating and inefficient, she set out to create a solution and Insurify is the result. Insurify's process simplifies the process of buying car, home, and pet insurance and helps people find access to cheaper rates. They're a virtual licensed insurance agency in all 50 states, so you can not only find quotes through Insurify, but you can buy through them as well. Impressively, they've helped over 10.4 million customers save money by switching their auto insurance policies.
Jump right in
Right away you can get started with comparing insurance quotes by providing your zip code on Insurify's site. From there you'll need to answer a series of questions about whether you're currently insured, why you're looking for insurance, the year, make, and model of your car, how heavily you use your car, your driver history, and more. You'll need to provide your name, physical address, and email address toward the end of the process.
Instant quotes
We thought for sure that we'd have to wait for quotes to come to our email or for someone to call us, but surprisingly we actually received a solid list of quotes almost instantly. We had quotes from Progressive (we did have to be redirected to their site), The General, The National General, Direct Auto Insurance, and Gainsco auto insurance. In our case, the quotes ranged anywhere from $233 to $393 per month. You might easily find rates much lower than this, but so much depends on the car you drive, the area you live in, and if you've had previous accidents.
Switch and save
Insurify boasts that you may save as much as $852 annually on your car insurance by using their tool to compare rates. We're happy with the number of quotes we were given, so we could see someone easily being able to find a cheaper rate here. You can also easily adjust the coverage you're looking for, how much liability coverage you need, and more to quickly get quotes readjusted to fit your needs.
No spam
If after searching around through different auto insurance companies you've found yourself bombarded with email and text spam, we're with you. This is one of the most annoying things about having to provide your name and email address to so many people. With Insurify, they promise to never spam you or sell your personal information and we are here for it.
Sky high reviews
Not only does Insurify have an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB), but their user ratings are phenomenal. Just on their BBB profile page they have 180 reviews and they equal out to a 4.51 out of 5 star rating. This is almost unheard of in the insurance sphere. Third-party reviews are equally impressive with people praising the site for being informative and easy to use, not spamming people afterwards, actually being able to find savings through other insurance companies, great customer service, and everything else we'd hope to find in a service like this. We were truly blown away.
Easily the best
It is a no-brainer to give Insurify our highest rating. This is a company that delivers on what they say they are going to do and truly exists to serve customers. We were shocked by how simple their process was and that we actually received solid quotes at the end of our experience here. We absolutely recommend coming to Insurify before visiting anywhere else on your journey to finding auto insurance.
The Zebra was created as a free tool to simplify insurance shopping for customers in all 50 states. Featuring a zebra in a suit as their mascot, the company was started in 2012 and has already produced millions of quotes for people. They've become one of the nation's leading car and home insurance comparison sites. Their tagline is, "We do the searching. You do the saving.” Their algorithm compares over 100 insurance companies to seek out the best policies that will fit your needs.
Privacy is a priority
As is the case with all other insurance quote comparison sites, you'll need to provide The Zebra with some information that they can use to pull quotes from other companies. They assure you that they take privacy really seriously, so they won't be spreading your information to other companies and drowning you in spam.
Useful company comparison blogs
There's a list of main insurance companies that The Zebra partners with to find quotes for you. These familiar names include USAA, Progressive, Travelers, Geico, Esurance, Erie, Metlife, Nationwide, Metromile, and others. There are some interesting articles written recently by The Zebra's unbiased researchers about the differences among these insurance companies to help you compare which one you really might want to go with. For example, an article titled, "Progressive vs. State Farm: Which company is best for you?” covered the pros and cons of each company and gave a rating to each, letting you see which one might be the better option. Once you receive quotes and want to compare them, these blog posts might really come in handy.
Get started
To get started with The Zebra, you'll first need to provide your zip code. Then you'll answer a series of questions about your current car insurance, if you want to bundle car and home, your vehicle year, make, and model, your name, birthday, address, driving history, your spouse's information (if applicable), and then select your preferred coverage package.
Redirected to a new site
You can choose from a minimum coverage policy where you have the least amount of coverage, a "better” policy that The Zebra recommends, or the best policy where you'll receive maximum protection. There is even a customizable option where you can choose your policy and vehicle coverage yourself and see what it comes out to when you get quotes. We went for "better” coverage and only ended up with options for Progressive and Gainsco. They had a "Get Price” button to the side and The Zebra's site directed us to "View the final price on the insurer's website without having to reenter your information.” This was definitely not the case since both quotes took us to another website where it was asking repeat information as if we had never been on The Zebra's website in the first place.
Wasn't helpful for us
We've noticed that some companies that once produced quotes upfront seem to make you go through the insurance company's website that they link you to. We aren't sure if this is some change that insurance companies have demanded or played a part in, but it seems to completely cut out the need for companies like The Zebra at all. So far, only our highest-rated company has allowed us to quickly scan pricing among different companies as soon as we handed over our information to them.
Praiseworthy agents
Despite our bizarre experience here that left us wondering how in the world this company is helping customers, they do have fantastic reviews. The Better Business Bureau gives The Zebra an "A-” rating and people say they are really pleased with the agents who work there. This may be a company that is much more useful over the phone than online. Others complained that they weren't given price comparisons after they filled all their info out on the website, so we know we aren't the only ones. Almost all positive reviews came from people who worked directly with agents and felt they were listened to and got better deals on their auto insurance.
Get to know the team
At the bottom of The Zebra's "About Us” page, you can see the faces of all their leadership and view their LinkedIn pages. Sometimes it helps to see who is behind a company and learn more about them to make shopping feel more personal and understand better the driving forces behind a service. We like that they're transparent about who runs this company, which even allows you to reach out to them if you feel so inclined.
Saved by reviewers
The Zebra has been featured by Forbes, Consumer Reports, Wall Street Journal, CNN, Fortune, and CNBC. They've garnered a lot of attention and have truly benefited many people. In the end, we wouldn't recommend wasting your time trying to get a quote online. Instead, jump on the phone and talk with someone who can do the research for you to get a quote and will leave you with useful results. If you take this route, you're likely to get a good number of quotes you can choose from and hopefully save quite a bit on your car insurance. Because of their good customer feedback, The Zebra has ultimately earned a high rating here.
Savvy is a company with a hip, modern flair that's licensed in all 50 states as an independent agency. They help you save time by quickly comparing multiple quote offers from different insurance companies, so there's no need to shop around. They're a RamseyTrusted insurance pro, which means they're approved by financial guru Dave Ramsey as an organization that shares values and a commitment to supporting customers through their financial journeys.
Friendly agents
By simply answering a few questions or using your existing insurance account, Savvy says they can instantly shop dozens of insurance companies so that you don't have to. They boast that they have a team of friendly agents who are available through text, email, or by phone to answer questions, get a new policy started, help you cancel existing insurance, or even shop for better deals if your rates go up in the future.
Free to use
It's completely free to use Savvy's tools. You'll only pay for the insurance policy you choose in the end (if you decide to move forward with one). Since insurers pay Savvy to promote and sell their products, this service makes money from them, not you.
Refer to current insurance information
When we chose "Let's Get Saving” from Savvy's website, we were guided to a series of questions. First we needed to input who currently insured our vehicle. From there you can either log into your account with your current insurance and Savvy will pull this information to compare with other companies for a quote or you can enter everything manually instead. This is the best option if you're currently uninsured or if the insurance company you use isn't supported by Savvy at this time.
Have patience with the questions
If you choose to go the manual route, you'll add your vehicle's year, make, and model. If you want to add a second vehicle, you could save up to 20%, but you don't have to. Then you'll provide your name, email address, birthday, gender, and marital status. Savvy will potentially ask questions about your spouse if you have one and then ask how often you're paying for auto insurance, how much you currently pay, and when the policy expires. You'll also need to add your home address, email, and phone number. All these questions are pretty annoying, but after shopping around at so many different auto insurance companies, we've learned that they're all pretty standard.
Wasted our time
Once we finally completed all the questions, we were shown a list of companies like Progressive, Insurify, Ultimate Insurance, Cheaper-Quotes, and AgileRates that we could "check offers” from. We were totally bugged to find that when we selected a company, we were redirected to their website and prompted to basically start this whole process over. We aren't sure if this was just in our case because Savvy couldn't pull accurate quotes based on our information, or if they are a total waste of time and just act as a lead generator.
Try giving them a call
If you try out Savvy and end up like us without real quotes to go off of, you could try calling Savvy to get more direct information. This still could save you time rather than going from company to company getting quotes from them.
Outstanding customer service
Savvy doesn't have a rating from the Better Business Bureau, but beyond the BBB they do have quite a few reviews from customers. Their ratings are really high and a common theme is that their customer service is outstanding. We're thinking that maybe their online quote system isn't the way to go 100% of the time, but you'll have success if you work directly with one of their agents. This is an efficient route and we recommend trying this with Savvy.
A good option over the phone
We're really pleased to see how much Savvy has helped customers save money on auto insurance. Their website is sleek and straightforward, so we can tell this is a growing company that is aiming to please users and stay relevant. For us they weren't the most effective choice for comparing auto insurance quotes, but we trust that their customer service team would guide you where you need to go, so Savvy has earned a good rating from us.
Esurance is an Allstate company, so these two major players are nearly one and the same. Esurance says they aim to make insurance less painful, more affordable, more transparent, and simple. They sold their very first policy in 1999 and were one of the first companies to offer car insurance online. Esurance is available in 43 states and now offers homeowners insurance, renters insurance, and motorcycle insurance as well as auto insurance.
Big selling points
There are a few reasons Esurance feels confident that customers should use their service. They say you can get a quote in just 6 minutes (on average), 69% of eligible photo claims are approved for payment in just one day, and people save $462 on average by switching to Esurance from another insurance provider. This is all great, but we were disappointed since Esurance makes it seem like you can get a quote online, but that's not actually the case.
Talk with a sales agent
There's no filling out information or "request an online quote” service here. Rather, you're directly provided with a phone number so they can help you out. This means you'll talk with a sales agent over the phone. They'll ask you questions about where you live, your vehicle details, your driving history, and more before giving you the price of auto insurance through Esurance. We do like that Esurance's website is simple and straightforward, but we wish we could just look at pricing without having to talk with someone.
Check your state
Before making time to call Esurance, we recommend doing a quick search online to see what states they provide coverage in. They operate in 43 states, which means any of you who live in the other 7 won't be able to get auto insurance quotes at all.
Phasing out?
Part of the reason you might not be able to get online quotes from Esurance is that it's rumored they're being phased out by Allstate. If you can use a phone number on Esurance's website and get connected to Allstate instead, this is an easy way for them to slowly dissolve Esurance altogether. It likely wouldn't affect your auto insurance policy, but it's worth noting that it's possible the Esurance name won't exist in the future.
Customer-friendly website
One thing we like about Esurance is their website. It really dumbs things down to make sure you understand insurance terms and know what to look for in a policy. They cover limits that drivers must have on their car insurance policies, explain what different coverage is for, and define commonly-used terms. It makes the whole process feel a lot less intimidating.
High BBB rating
Esurance has a nearly perfect rating from the Better Business Bureau, coming in with an "A-”. Their parent company, Allstate, has an "A+” rating, so all around we're looking at good scores. There are mixed reviews from customers who have experienced a wide range of auto issues, but it's a common theme for people to say that they felt pricing from Esurance was really reasonable.
Give them a call
If Esurance really provides quotes as fast as they say they do and they've available in your state, it wouldn't hurt to make a call and get pricing that you can compare with other companies. In the past we have received quotes from them that were actually really competitive, but this all depends on so many variables that it's hard to say what it will be for you. We wish you could get quotes online, but besides this, Esurance could be a great option for auto insurance and you should give them a call.
Gabi is a free tool for people wanting to compare home and auto quotes across top providers by visiting one single place. They aim to find you the cheapest rate for your exact coverage and operate in all 50 states. Gabi says they are different because they aren't a lead generator that takes your information and spams you, but rather aims to build relationships with customers and will never share your data or cold call you.
Use your current insurance policy
The way Gabi is able to quickly pull insurance quotes for you is by using the account credentials to your current insurance account (or with a PDF of your policy declarations page) if you're able to provide that. If not, you can do it later in the process. The idea is that Gabi instantly compares your policy with quotes from every major insurance company to help you find the best rate. You may need to fill in some additional details along the way (plus the usual personal stuff like your name and email address), but Gabi is supposed to save you time by utilizing the information that's associated with your current policy. In most cases, this only takes about 2 minutes unless your information can't be verified. In this case, it will have to be manually reviewed, which can take up to 48 hours.

If you receive quotes that are lower than what you're paying, you can buy the new policy directly through Gabi. They'll verify your quote with the insurance company they found for you, get a final price, and help you dot all the i's and cross the t's to get it done.
Completely free
After you receive a quote from Gabi, there is no obligation to move forward. Their tool is completely free, no matter what. The only way they make money is from the insurance companies they work with when they sell one of their policies. They say that they're generally able to find savings for about two-thirds of their customers, with an estimated savings of about $961 per year.
A good starting point
If you've landed on Gabi's website before finding other quotes or browsing other companies, it's a good place to start. Their website is a bit wordy, but it's really informative. To start, they give an overview about why comparing quotes is even important. They'll give you tips on comparing quotes, explain what factors influence car insurance rates, give tips on how to lower your rate, and provide an FAQ for people wanting to learn more about Gabi or understand the auto insurance world. We really appreciate all this information and feel that it's useful for everyone to review.
Mixed ratings
Gabi has an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau. They're owned by the company, Experian, who unfortunately has a "D-” rating. There are mixed views on whether or not Gabi actually provides competitive quotes and saves customers much money. Some people feel that in the end they really aren't getting a great deal by using this tool to switch policies. But, pricing will be different for every person, so until you get a final price from Gabi, it's hard to know.
Keep expectations low
If Gabi really makes it as fast and easy to get an auto insurance quote as they say, you might as well see what they can offer you. Just beware that the big $961 number they throw out about how much savings they could offer could be grossly exaggerated or really rare. If you go in with low expectations, it wouldn't hurt to see what quotes are out there for you, especially since Gabi won't sell your information. They've earned an above-average rating from us.
The heart of Progressive's business model, as you may be able to guess from their company name, is progress. They aim to offer unwavering care and unparalleled coverage for customers whether it's for their vehicles, homes, or businesses. Progressive was founded in 1937 and within the last few years, they became the second-largest auto insurer in the U.S. market. They have over 27 million policies in force and have well over 50 billion dollars in net written premiums. There's definitely a reason why this company has garnered so much attention and recognition over the years.
Starts off personal
So is Progressive really all it's cracked up to be? Their commercials are compelling, that's for sure. But aside from their marketing and efforts to make their name known, are they really "an insurance company you can rely on” as their name suggests? To find out if their rates are any good, you can start by inputting your zip code to their "Quote and Compare” tool. Next you'll need to add your name, email address, and home address, and tell them all about your vehicle(s). You'll also have to add your gender, marital status, level of education, and other demographic-related information (which mostly allows them to store up data and information on customers, unfortunately), and even your social security number if you're willing.
3 package options
If you want to bundle auto and home insurance through Progressive, it's possible you'll get a discount. If not, you can skip this step and within seconds you'll get three quotes from Progressive. They made it look like they were going to give us a quote and compare it with other companies, but by the end, the only quote or information came directly from Progressive. They offer a 6-month policy in either the Basic, Choice, or Recommended package. Basic is the cheapest (for us a total of $362 if we paid the 6 months in full), Choice is the middle option ($458 for 6 months if we paid in full), and the Recommended choice is the most expensive ($1,968 if we paid in full).
Higher payments = more coverage
The differences in the price ranges from Progressive are in the policy details. The more you pay monthly, the more coverage you're going to have. The only way to get comprehensive collision, rental, or roadside coverage is to go with the Recommended plan. Progressive clearly lays out what's covered with each package so that you can see the differences among them.
Name your price tool
Progressive has a "Name Your Price Tool” that gives you a sliding scale so you can adjust to what you would ideally want your monthly payments to be. Then you'll see your policy change and how it affects your coverage. This allows you to stay within a range you're comfortable with and clearly see what you are gaining or losing by doing so.
Unhappy customers
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has awarded Progressive a "B” rating. This is definitely not as high as we'd like it to be, but it's not terrible either. In the last 3 years alone, Progressive has closed over 5,280 customer complaints through the BBB. Third-party ratings of this company are quite frightening, but this is often the case when disgruntled customers who have been in an accident take to the internet. However, instances of Progressive randomly canceling people's policies, claims taking forever to process or being denied, and surprise bills are something to take into consideration.
May be difficult to work with
Most people who have insurance coverage and aren't actively needing it won't be posting reviews about Progressive online. Surely not every customer is angry with Progressive, but they do seem to give people the runaround a lot of times. From a company that positions itself to be so reputable and affordable, we wish they could get a grip on their customer service and even improve their Better Business Bureau rating. We like how straightforward their website is, so if they could just have better follow-through with their service, this would truly be a great company. If you find that they quote you way lower than what you're already spending, it may be worth reading all the fine details and switching to Progressive. However, we can't confidently recommend them as one of the easiest auto insurance companies to work with.

You'll start by adding your zip code, age, and if you're currently insured. Then they'll want to know about the car you drive, if you're married, if you're a homeowner, your level of education, accident history, name, address, and email address. None of the questions are out of the ordinary, so they're exactly what we expected.
No real quotes
ValuePenguin matched us with two companies to get rates from. They were Progressive and Insurify. Insurify also helps people get connected with insurance quotes, so it's kind of funny that they are one of the places recommended by ValuePenguin. We are almost always given an offer for a quote for Progressive and every single time we have to redirect to their website and fill out our information all over again. It's totally useless.
Sells your information
One of the major complaints against ValuePenguin is that they sell your information and leave you with lots of spam calls, texts, and emails. People are often extremely frustrated after providing them with contact information. Like us, they don't end up receiving quotes, but rather get bombarded with calls from different sales agents. LendingTree has an "A+” Better Business Bureau rating, but nothing suggests that ValuePenguin is providing a lot of value for anyone.
Not as they appear
We wouldn't give our personal information over to ValuePenguin expecting to receive competitive auto insurance quotes from other companies. If we had to recommend them for something, it would just be for their help articles and website that may give you some helpful insight into choosing insurance if you're doing it for the first time. However, as far as providing the useful service that they claim to, ValuePenguin fails miserably and gets a well-deserved score here.
For over 24 years, CARCHEX has specialized in connecting people with auto insurance companies and assisting them in buying pre-owned cars. They say their goal is to be a consumer advocate and help people through the vehicle ownership process. They have a suite of vehicle protection and financial services to protect customers from seller fraud. Some top brands that have recommended CARCHEX include CARFAX, Kelley Blue Book, SiriusXM, Amac, Repairpal, and the DMV.

At CARCHEX, one of the services they say you can take advantage of is accessing their tool that helps you compare the cheapest quotes from top insurance companies. Some of the main companies that CARCHEX says they compare plans from are Progressive, Travelers, Esurance, Safeco, Plymouth Rock, Mercury Insurance, 21st Century Insurance, Dairyland Insurance, ASI, and The General. To get a free quote, there's a menu on the website where you can begin filling out some important information. You'll need to provide your vehicle's mileage, year, make, and model, along with your name, zip code, and your phone number.
Speak with a representative
Rather than being able to do the whole process online, CARCHEX will use the phone number you've provided and have one of their representatives call you to discuss plan options. If you're willing to provide your street address and VIN number, they say your quote will process faster.
Just a middleman
We really wish you could get auto insurance quotes from CARCHEX's website and we are disappointed that their process is a bit muddled. It initially seems like maybe CARCHEX itself offers insurance policies, but we don't believe this is the case. Instead, they'll likely direct you to a big-name insurance company (after you wait for a phone call) and then you'll essentially have to start the process over with them from scratch. This does not save us any time and it makes us a bit confused about the part CARCHEX even plays in saving us time or money.
Good reputation, but not helpful here
It may be the case that CARCHEX once offered auto insurance quotes, but as far as we can tell, they don't anymore. Overall, CARCHEX has a good reputation and an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau. So as a whole, this isn't a bad company. They just don't provide anything useful when it comes to getting quotes for auto insurance.
Not beneficial
You won't get any benefit out of going to CARCHEX for auto insurance quotes, even though they make it appear like you will. We're all about saving time, so just stick with a higher-rated auto insurance site for a more beneficial, straightforward experience. CARCHEX has earned one of our lowest ratings.
US Insurance Online says they make shopping for insurance quotes easy. Their process is much like many others where you fill out a short form to get quotes and start comparing rates to find coverage for auto insurance, health insurance, life insurance, or home insurance. Using their large network of licensed insurance agents across the U.S., US Insurance Online will match you to local agents in your area to run free insurance quotes for you.
Needs a makeover
We started out with little hope for how up-to-date US Insurance Online is since the main photo on their website is of a guy talking on a flip phone (but hey, those are making a comeback...). Their website is in bad need of some simplification and some modern appeal.
False sense of security
Besides being wordy, we noticed as soon as we reached the site that it wasn't secure, meaning any information you enter on their site could be intercepted by a third-party since their connection is not encrypted. The funny thing about US Insurance Online is that they immediately ask you for your zip code and quote type you're looking for so that you can start comparing. Along with this is a message saying, "Your information is secure.” We don't believe this for a second, so we are very leery of providing personal information here.
Standard questions to answer
The information you'll have to provide to US Insurance Online if you want a quote includes your vehicle year, make, model, who your current insurance is through, what your accident and ticket history is like, your birthday, name, physical address and email address.
Website error
We braved the system and inputted information for an auto insurance quote. It was definitely not worth it since we received an error message in the end saying, "Thank you for your interest in our service. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept your information at this time.” And there was nowhere else we could go from there.
Nothing useful here
We would be willing to bet that US Insurance Online isn't an active, fully functioning auto insurance service. Although their website is still up and hanging by a thread, it doesn't do anyone any favors. Plus, the only three companies listed as those that US Insurance Online works with are Progressive, Liberty Mutual, and Farmers. If you're only comparing quotes among the top three players in the auto insurance industry, you aren't really getting enough choices.
Meaningless BBB rating
The Better Business Bureau badge on US Insurance Online's website leads you to a rating for All Web Leads, Inc. This company runs InsuranceQuotes, US Insurance Online, and Family Healthcare Services. The rating is an "A+”, which is great but doesn't make up for the other issues we ran into. Outside of this, there are no recent customer reviews that mention US Insurance Online.
Don't risk it
Since US Insurance Online is a time-sucking website that potentially could lead you to getting your personal information stolen, we'd steer clear. They landed themselves nearly at the bottom of our ratings for auto insurance and we'd recommend looking almost anywhere besides here for quotes.
Before we spend time with a company and on their website, we like to learn a little bit about them. Unfortunately, Trusted Rates gives almost no information about themselves on their website. Other than that, we aren't sure about the background of this company, which is a disappointment from the start.

There appears to be basically two options when you reach Trusted Rates. There's a button saying, "Call An Agent” that we assumed would lead us to a phone number, but instead it does nothing at all. So your only real choice if you want to pursue this site is to input your vehicle year, make, model, annual mileage, and license state to get to work on a quote. Trusted Rates says you'll get cheap auto insurance quotes within one minute, so we put it to the test.
Minimal information required
It's true that it took us about a minute to fill out the questions that Trusted Rates gave us. There were far less than we've been asked by other places, which is great, but made us wonder if they had enough to go off of to give us anything accurate in the end. After filling out some very basic information, we received three insurance choices. They were from SelectMyPolicy, My Insurance Avenue, and InsuranceSaverToday. We'd never heard of these, but were willing to check out what the rates might be.
Broken links
As soon as we clicked "View My Rates” next to the company name suggested for us, we hit a dead end. The links to all three companies were broken, so there was nothing else we could do. Luckily we didn't spend too much time on this site or hand over too much information, otherwise we would have been frustrated by the time we had wasted.
Abandoned website
Trusted Rates hasn't updated their copyright since 2022. This doesn't always mean the company isn't in operation, but it does tell us that their website isn't receiving active maintenance. We are 0% surprised by this.
No ratings
A Better Business Bureau (BBB) badge is displayed on Trusted Rates' site, but you can't click on it and we weren't able to find a rating for them from the BBB when we looked for ourselves. There is almost nothing about this service anywhere else on the internet, which makes sense since we can't imagine why anyone would be trying to use them in the first place.
Nothing for us here
You'll get nothing in return for your time with Trusted Rates. They've clearly stopped operations and can offer nothing to you. Luckily there are some great companies that offer free quote comparison services, so you aren't missing out by looking elsewhere. Trusted Rates has earned our lowest rating.
