Whether you've just turned 16, or you're 99 years old and out driving on the roads, you need auto insurance. This protects you and everyone else by making sure that if an accident happens, it will be paid for and taken care of. Whether you get in a small fender bender or (heaven forbid) a devastating large-scale accident, your insurance will kick in and save you from potentially having to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket.
Besides paying for damage done to your car and anyone else potentially involved in an issue on the road, auto insurance can cover things like theft, weather, keying, or natural disasters. It can help pay for medical bills, lost wages, or even a funeral if anyone is injured or killed. There are a range of other things your insurance can help with depending on the plan like a cracked windshield, which comes in handy since we've all been hit by a flying rock or two on the road.

Insurify is the top place to go for quick auto insurance quotes. By filling out some personal information (that will never be sold or used to spam you with) and answering questions about your vehicle and driving history, you'll get a list of quotes within minutes - no waiting for an email, no working with a sales agent over the phone. Insurify delivers what they promise and make it a breeze to find an auto insurance policy that will save you money. It's no surprise they have an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau and extremely high ratings from customers. This is a fantastic, free tool that should be taken advantage of and has earned our highest rating among auto insurance sites.
The Zebra is a company that promises to compare rates with up to 100 auto insurance companies to find you the best deal. We quickly discovered that going through their online quote comparison process leads you to a dead end (meaning you'll end up on a different website and have to re-enter your information) but we knew there had to be a reason this company is so well-liked. It turns out The Zebra is a fantastic way to save time and money if you skip their online process and call a sales agent to work with you on finding quotes and getting you signed up for a cheaper auto policy. They have an "A-” rating from the Better Business Bureau and fabulous reviews from customers, so they've earned one of our highest ratings.
Savvy aims to save people time and money by using information from their existing auto insurance policies and helping them compare quotes right away. For us, we weren't able to see quotes online, but this may not always be the case. Users rave about how great Savvy's customer service team is, so we highly recommend calling, texting, or emailing to get help from someone to find you the best rates. We trust that they'll give you fast, accurate information and save you time this way. Savvy isn't our favorite place to go to compare quotes, but it has been a great free resource for many people, so they've earned a good rating.
Esurance is run by Allstate and is potentially being phased out by them. For now, if you want an auto insurance quote from Esurance, you'll need to call the number on their website to talk to a sales agent. They operate in 43 states, so be sure to check if Esurance is even an option for you. They boast that you can get a quote within 6 minutes on average and customers save around $462 by switching to their company from a competitor. They're known for providing fair pricing, so although we wish they had more of an online process, we still recommend calling Esurance to see what their pricing is like for you.
Gabi is set up to be the type of website we're all hoping to find when we set out to get a new auto insurance policy. They boast that within as little as 2 minutes, you can get a quote after filling in the necessary information. They're available in all 50 states and work with over 40 insurance companies. You'll need to provide information on your current insurance company in order for them to quickly find quotes to compare with. Some people felt that they should have received more quotes than they did and often the pricing wasn't even that impressive. However, Gabi as a tool is free, you can sign up for a new policy straight from their site, and they won't sell your information. They may not be as amazing as they initially appear, but it wouldn't hurt to gather some pricing here to use in your analysis for choosing auto insurance coverage.
Progressive is one of the big players in the home and auto insurance industry. They're the second largest auto insurer in the U.S. market, so they definitely have a hold over their competition. You can get online quotes straight from their website and easily see the differences between policy options, which we like. However, since they have a "B” rating from the Better Business Bureau and overall really terrible customer reviews, we are more hesitant about going with Progressive in the event that you really need them to pull through for you when you make a claim. We'd need to see Progressive put more of an emphasis on reviewing their processes and improving customer satisfaction before giving them one of our highest ratings.
ValuePenguin has an extremely insightful website with thousands of help articles about insurance, credit cards, and other financial details. They're run by LendingTree, a company with an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau. Unfortunately, ValuePenguin makes big promises about providing people with auto insurance quotes they can compare online, but instead they link you to third-party sites and sell your information so that sales agents can call, text, and email you to their hearts' content. You'll likely find ValuePenguin to be more annoying than useful, so they have not earned a great rating from us.
CARCHEX has a good reputation for helping people avoid fraud when they're purchasing used cars. They have made a name for themselves and have been useful for many people. However, although they boast that they'll help customers compare auto insurance quotes from big and small companies, this really isn't the case. After you fill out personal information, you'll have to wait for a call from a representative. That rep will usually direct you to other third-party companies, so nothing about CARCHEX is saving you time or helping you instantly compare pricing. We don't see how they'd be any benefit to people seeking auto insurance, so they've earned one of our lowest ratings.
US Insurance Online was once an active and maybe even helpful website where people could provide information about themselves, their current insurance policy, and driving history to get a list of auto insurance quotes from other agencies. Now their website is flagged as "Not Secure” and when you fill out their questionnaire for quotes, there is an error message that leads you to "nowhere land”. US Insurance Online has an outdated website and cannot offer anyone the useful auto insurance quotes that they're looking for, so it has earned one of our lowest rankings.
Trusted Rates has a very simple website without any information about the company or exactly what they even do. The site hasn't been updated for a couple of years and the button to reach a sales agent doesn't work, so all you can do is input information about yourself and your vehicle to get a "quick quote”. In the end, the links to all auto insurance companies that Trusted Rates sends you to are broken, so there is no benefit to spending even a second of your time with Trusted Rates. They've earned our lowest rating.
There are usually different tiers of auto insurance plans that you can choose from that will determine how much is covered. You're probably familiar with a few big-name auto insurance companies that seem to dominate the marketplace with ads and commercials. But there are actually quite a few companies out there and some could save you a significant amount of money compared to their competitors.
You can usually get a quick online quote within minutes that will help you compare pricing between companies. There are even some services that will take your information and instantly help you compare quotes among a bunch of different companies without you having to visit them one at a time. Depending on your driving history, some of these services give you more accurate quotes than others, but it's always worth a try.
