CarShield was formed in 2005 and proudly boasts that they have covered over 1 million vehicles and have paid over 1 billion dollars in claims. They have been featured on ESPN, Inc. 5000, HGTV, CNN, CNBC, TBS, and other channels and websites. Customers can browse their professional website for plan information, FAQ, a glossary of terms, and an education center with tips and insights on vehicle protection.
6 auto warranty plans
Six coverage plans are available through CarShield. They include:
All contracts include towing
Most contracts through CarShield provide 24/7 roadside assistance in case your vehicle has an issue while driving as well as rental car services while your vehicle is being fixed. All contracts include towing services.
Newer car options missing
To receive a quote for any given coverage plan, customers will be asked to fill out an online form and provide the year, make, model, and mileage of their vehicle along with their contact information. By submitting the form, CarShield receives consent to contact customers by phone, text, or email to go over pricing information. We did notice that when filling out this online form, some newer vehicle options were missing from the dropdown list. This could be a simple error on the part of CarShield, but it would affect new car owners looking to get an extended warranty on their vehicles. If this is the case for you, we suggest giving them a call to see if they will cover your specific vehicle.
Mixed reviews
Most third-party sites have customers with mixed, but overall good things to say about their experience with vehicle coverage through CarShield. We will note, however, that the Better Business Bureau gives an F rating to CarShield due to hundreds of customer complaints. At the time of this review, an alert was posted for this business warning customers to use caution when considering doing business with CarShield. Customers who have posted elsewhere have mixed things to say about CarShield. Most people who have positive things to say refer to the good experiences they have with customer service, while those who are upset claim there are discrepancies in coverage and a lack of transparency about processes.
Overall good choice
From what we have experienced with CarShield, we think they are a good choice for extended vehicle coverage. If you take the time to read your contract terms and really understand what you are getting by paying for a plan through CarShield, you shouldn't find yourself surprised when something isn't covered. We didn't find anywhere that states CarShield has a money-back guarantee, so we suggest doing your homework before deciding to move forward with vehicle coverage from them. Thousands of customers have been happy with CarShield's services and we think that this will continue to be the case for those who carefully choose their plan.
When you purchase a new car, an auto warranty is usually an optional purchase along with it. This is a good choice for vehicle owners who want to spend a little extra each month or in one lump sum for peace of mind about dealing with potential vehicle issues down the road (no pun intended). Generally, a warranty extends for a certain number of years or until the vehicle reaches a specific number of miles.
Heaven forbid you have an engine blowout, faulty brake system, electrical issue, or steering malfunction as you're cruising along in your car. If this were the case, a big concern for you (besides your safety) would be the thousands of dollars it could cost to get these major issues repaired. Whether your vehicle is brand new or a few years old, unfortunately things go wrong with cars that you can never predict.
Auto warranties make it so that vehicle owners pay a contracted price much lower than the total cost of a major repair to ensure that if a big issue arises, the costs for fixing the vehicle will be covered. Some major repairs that might be covered under warranty include transmission, engine, powertrain, heating/cooling, and other necessary vehicle parts.
