Which Bagel Club is the Best?  Few breakfast foods are as beloved as a fresh, chewy bagel. Whether toasted with a smear of cream cheese, loaded with smoked salmon, or simply enjoyed as-is, bagels have been a go-to comfort food for decades.
When you land on the Exes & Zees site, thinking you're going to get a bagel subscription, the first word that will probably come to your mind (as it did to ours) is "random". We can promise you that there's no other bagel club on our list that also offers market coffee (makes sense), supplements (stretching it a bit), beauty products (why?)... and professional services for graphic design and website development (?!). Exes & Zees seems to be based in Minnesota somewhere, but that's really all we can tell you about the business behind the bagels here.
Lots of questions remain about this bagel club
If you love the idea of getting a mystery bagel box, this could very well be the club for you. It's available as a weekly or monthly subscription, but the bagel club page doesn't tell you much more beyond the fact that you'll pay $14.40 on a weekly plan and $16.20 on a monthly one. It does auto-renew, but in theory, you can skip or cancel anytime.
Look at the a la carte shop to figure out bagel flavors
Since there's nowhere on the bagel subscription page that tells you what flavors might be in your subscription, we went to the main Bagels page in the online store to do some detective work. From what we can tell, you can expect flavors to include French toast, plain, "everything", sesame seed, onion, poppy seed, salted, and cheddar. Are any of those seasonal? How often do they add flavors to the menu? We have no idea.
You'll probably get a half-dozen bagels in your box
That Bagels page also makes us think that when you subscribe, you're getting just a half-dozen bagels per delivery (since the a la carte shop has bagels at $17 to $19 for a pack of 6). Amazingly, when we put the bagel club in our cart, there was no shipping fee.
They'll send you unsolicited emails
However, we weren't happy at all to get a "thanks for subscribing, you've earned 10 points." email from Exes & Zees, when all we did was enter our name and email address (unchecking the box for receiving offers) so that we could find out if we would be charged any shipping fees. That feels like a sneaky data grab, not a hallmark of a business that's looking out for its customers.
Company is a mystery
And that's it. We found zero reputation for anything related to Exes & Zees; they don't even have a phone number or an email address on their website, and our live chat went unanswered. We consulted our favorite e-commerce guru, and he took one look and said, "Looks like they didn't want to pay money for hosting separate websites for all of those different products and services...whoever ‘they' might be."
A bagel club we'd avoid
That's enough to land this strange bagel club at the bottom of our list. Sure, we love the price point, but that's where the love for Exes & Zees ends. Everything else about this company (can we even call it a bakery?) is too mysterious, and not really in a fun way. Get your bagels from a company who's all too eager to tell you about itself - like one of the higher-rated clubs on our list.
