Which Bagel Club is the Best?  Few breakfast foods are as beloved as a fresh, chewy bagel. Whether toasted with a smear of cream cheese, loaded with smoked salmon, or simply enjoyed as-is, bagels have been a go-to comfort food for decades.
Knead & Nosh's bagel subscription is the work of Jeff Mao, a baker, educator, and technologist who blends his skills into a unique culinary experience. This small business isn't just about selling bagels - it's about sharing the love of baking through online classes, recipes, and articles to help home bakers up their game.
Get 6 or 12 bagels, mostly in savory flavors
One of Jeff's newest offerings is Knead & Nosh's monthly bagel subscription. Each delivery includes either a dozen ($29) or a half-dozen ($15) hand-rolled bagels, featuring classic options like plain and "everything", as well as more adventurous "monthly special" flavors like roasted garlic and Maine blueberry. Subscribers can customize their selections or opt for a rotating variety each month, making it a fun way to discover new favorites. Just be aware that the "monthly special" flavor is the only slot where you might get a sweet bagel; the regular flavors are all savory (plain, "everything", sesame, poppy seed, sea salt, pumpernickel), or at least not sugary like a cinnamon raisin or French toast variety.
Shipping from Maine can take a while
As exciting as it is to support a small business with a growing reputation, this subscription does come with some logistical concerns. The bagels ship from Maine via USPS Priority Mail, and depending on where you live, they could take a week or more to arrive - meaning you may need to toast them rather than enjoy them fresh. Shipping costs vary by location, but one test address in Florida showed a $17.38 charge, which can add up quickly. Once you've added your bagel club to the cart, enter the delivery address to get your estimate - Knead & Nosh doesn't believe in any nasty surprises or hidden costs.
More than just bagels: Learn to bake your own
One thing that really sets Knead & Nosh apart is its focus on education. Beyond the subscription, Jeff Mao offers a wide range of online baking classes and resources, including step-by-step videos, live virtual workshops, and downloadable guides. Whether you're a beginner trying to master the basics or an experienced home baker looking to refine your technique, there's something for every skill level. It's a great way to deepen your appreciation for what goes into a truly good bagel - and maybe even inspire you to start baking your own.
Donate bagels at half price
That said, we love that Knead & Nosh offers an option to give back: you can donate a dozen bagels to the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program at half price, providing food to a family in need. Just look for that in the options as you're setting up your bagel club.
Off to a good start
While this subscription is still new and hasn't built up reviews yet, Knead & Nosh's strong local presence at farmer's markets in Maine and its community-focused mission make it one to watch. For now, we're giving it a "just average" rating, but we hope to see great feedback regarding this bagel club in the (near) future that would easily bring that rating up.
