Shipping costs are not listed anywhere on the site, but when we put a youth fielding glove in the cart and went to check out, estimated shipping ranged from $6.99 (economy) or $8.99 (Priority Mail) to priority overnight ($86. 99).

Parent company Team Express is not accredited by the BBB but has earned an "A-" rating, with only one complaint in the past year. Across online review platforms, Baseball Express has ranked well, with an average of 4.6 out of 5 stars. There are also older review sites with limited feedback ranking the company as low as 1.4 and 2.4. Complaints have to do with not receiving promised discounts on orders and lost packages. The downside is the limited selection, and you won't be able to get everything you need to play the game at one website. However, like other mega-sports retailers we have reviewed, it is not easy to find the baseball equipment. First you must click on the drop-down menu and then scroll down to sports before you can find it. Alternatively, you could type in the specific item you want in the search bar at the top of the page. Also, it's not always easy to find the information you're looking for on this website.

One of the largest selections of cleats offered

The last time we reviewed them, the company had been issued a warning by the BBB as a result of complaints from misleading and deceptive sales tactics (like customers receiving used products). There have been 39 complaints in the past year for them, and 40 customers on the BBB have reviewed the company to give them 1 out of 5 stars, with rants about terrible experiences, wrong products received, inventory issues, and "the worst customer experience I've had in my life." Across review platforms, Academy Sports + Outdoors fares much better, with 4.1 out of 5 stars from over 17,000 reviews on Google reviews, though 2.6 out of 5 from over 5,000 reviews on Yelp tells a different story. Many negative reviews tell stories of bad in-store experiences and poor customer service. The positive reviewers tell of good products and excellent experiences in-store. We would hesitate to recommend this sports equipment retailer due to these uneven reviews and we'd keep an eye on what happens with the BBB rating.

While Academy Sports + Outdoors may have one of the biggest selection of cleats, we suggest looking at the higher-ranking baseball equipment stores on our list due to concerns about this company's business practices.

On the Academy Sports website

Walmart first opened a store in 1962 based on the motto "the lowest prices anytime, anywhere." From one store in Arkansas to over 10,700 worldwide, the retailer changed the way people shop and the prices they expect to pay.

Limited brand selection for casual players

As a worldwide retailer of much more than sporting goods, Walmart does not have specialized knowledge of any particular category. However, online they offer brands such as Rawlings, Athletic Works, Franklin, Easton, Blitzball, SPECSTAR, Wilson, Louisville Slugger, Mizuno, and Guardian Baseball. While many of these brands are also used by pros, the majority of the goods sold on Walmart's website seem to be for casual players.

Website search can be overwhelming

The home page for the Walmart website is very busy. Since this retailer offers significantly more than just sports equipment, you will need to search the drop-down menu for departments, then sports and outdoor, then sports. Once you're on the sports page, it's easy to find baseball (or softball) and be taken to their online equipment selection. The page lists categories of equipment and also has filters along the side to help narrow down what you're looking for. Of course, you could always just use the search bar at the top of the Walmart website if you know what you want - especially since the website features more than 1,000 baseball-related products, just browsing could be overwhelming. (Take note that searching the softball store turns up many crossover products with over 1,000 items to browse. Walmart is definitely not a specialty sports store and should not be viewed that way). One negative was the font for the product descriptions was just over 10 point font, which can be difficult to read. Also, search results can yield totally unrelated products, making browsing frustrating.

Some of the best prices available

To more accurately compare prices at Walmart with other retailers, we focused on three key items: baseball bats, fielding gloves, and cleats. The results are tricky to compare due to the company's search results:

• For the bats, there are over 1,000 search results that are displayed. They can be sorted by bat category and type (USSSA, USA, fungo, wood, T-Ball, and BBCOR), filtered by length, drop, material, weight, and customer rating, among others. Aside from the cheap (under $5) plastic kids toy bats and inflatable toys, the bats on Walmart's baseball store start as low as $7.99 for an All Aluminum Alloy practice bat up to the Easton USSSA 30" bat for $499.99.
• For the gloves, again over 1,000 results come up, with the ability to sort by price, brand, fulfillment speed, size, position, throwing hand, customer rating, color, and more. They start as low as $10.29 for a Herrnalise youth baseball glove and increase as high as $674.99 for a Nokona EdgeX 11.5" glove.
• For the cleats, it's a little trickier to just browse. One click will lead you to youth baseball cleats. A search bar may yield mixed offerings, including softball cleats. There were over 250 cleats results when we searched "baseball cleats," with 50 results popping up for "youth cleats." Once you get the results you need, you can filter by brand, price, shoe size, sport, lifestage (age), cleat type, color, material, and customer rating. However, you need to do an additional sports filter for baseball to remove other results and it's brought down to 120, with other unrelated items continuing to appear in the results (strangely, a dinosaur bathroom organizing tray was the second item to show on our search), which serves as a reminder that you are not on a sports equipment retailer's website. The cheapest true cleats listed here are $23.99 for women's Under Armour cleats, with the most expensive being New Balance men's cleats for $129.95.

It should be noted that all prices on Walmart's website are "when purchased online" and in-store pricing and availability may vary. Overall, Walmart offers some of the lowest prices for some brands but, despite large search result listings, does not have the selection offered by our top-rated baseball equipment retailers, especially when it comes to pro gear.

Unlike many retailers, Walmart does not match competitors' prices but may match identical items on their website when you purchase in a store, with restrictions.

Shipping usually free

Walmart+ members will receive free shipping with no minimum order, while others qualify with a minimum order of $35; there is a $6.99 fee if you are below the minimum. Same-day delivery may be available in select areas for Walmart+ members, while others pay a fee of $7.95 to $19.99 (even for drone delivery). While Walmart fulfills most of the items on their website, take note that it also lists other retailers, which may charge additional shipping fees. Each item's listing will indicate if there is an additional fee and how long the shipping will take. Free store pickup is available on most products. Each product listing tells how much the shipping will cost, with many of them at no charge.

Returns are permitted for Walmart-sold items

Walmart allows returns but outbound shipping charges are not always refunded. They offer a free, 90-day return policy unless otherwise noted. If you receive a damaged or defective item, you may be eligible for refund or replacement by starting a return in the app. Items may ship from different warehouses and arrive separately, so each package has its own tracking number. Marketplace seller merchandise must be within 30 days and may follow different policies. Be aware that many customers have reported issues about items purchased on Walmart's Marketplace so we advise exercising caution when purchasing baseball equipment from such sellers.

Lower ratings are overwhelmingly prevalent on other sites, like Yelp, Consumer Affairs, and Trustpilot, where Walmart has earned a dismal 1.1 to 2.1 stars out of 5 from over 140.000 reviewers. While many reviews are related to in-store incidents, online shopping reviews are also represented and customers rant about receiving incorrect items, order cancelations, difficulty with returns, and terrible customer service.

Search for a better option

While Walmart's appeal is the lowest prices, it may come with frustration over receiving used or damaged goods from third-party sellers or the inability to narrow search results and browse only baseball gear. We suggest shopping at one of our higher-ranked choices the next time you need equipment.

We love the layout of the homepage of the Baseball Savings website. Right away you are presented with the various equipment categories. It is bright and easy to navigate. The Baseball Savings Baseball Guide offers news, tips, and reviews from their panel of experts on the sport. From articles on the types of baseballs and best gloves for high school players to guides on buying the best baseball bat and finding the top cleats for comfort and support, this section of the Baseball Savings website can be very informative.

Along the side of the page you can filter by gender, brand, shoe size, cleat type, cleat height, shoe width, MLB player endorsed, color, and price.

You can sign up for their email program and get a code to use which gives you $20 off a $100 purchase. Overall, the selection of these products is one of the more extensive we've seen, and the prices are some of the lowest.

Price match up to 14 days post purchase

With a best price guarantee, DICK'S Sporting Goods says, "If you find a lower price, we'll match it." The policy is valid on identical products (brand, model number, color, size, weight, and quantity) and in-stock only at a qualifying retailer's store or website (see list of acceptable ones). Use the chat feature on the website to request a price match or give DICK'S a call. The price matching is typically completed quickly to keep your shopping simple, and they will help you place the order for the price-matched product. You have 14 days from the date of purchase to take advantage of the deal.

Shipping is free on most orders with rewards program

There are three shipping methods used by DICK'S Sporting Goods: standard (2-5 business days), expedited (2 business days), and express (1 business day). Curbside pickup and same-day delivery are also available, depending on your location. Those with the ScoreCard rewards program will receive free standard shipping on orders $49 and higher. Unfortunately, DICK'S Sporting Goods has been rated "F" by the BBB and is not accredited. The rating is because they failed to resolve complaints against the business. Across online user review platforms, the sports store has mixed reviews. They have been ranked from a dismal 1.11-star average to an excellent 4.7 out of 5 stars. The site with the highest number of reviews is Yelp which collected over 17,000 ratings to put DICK'S at 2.6 out of 5 stars. Customers rant about late shipments and terrible customer service. Epic Sports was incorporated in 2015. The retailer's website offers sports gear for baseball, softball, cheer, football, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, volleyball, and more.

Outdated website and limited brands

The website does not look as sleek as the others we've reviewed on our list, though it's relatively easy to navigate by using the top tabs which list the sports offered. Most of the font is noticeably on the smaller side (under 10 point), which makes it not only difficult to read, but also makes it less visually appealing and look outdated. Brands offered include many of the major players in the sport: Rawlings, Easton, Louisville Slugger, Mizuno, and Under Armour, though noticeably absent are some of the fielding glove, bat, and cleats brands we have seen on most of the other retailers we reviewed.

Good selection of fielding gloves but limited cleats

To more accurately compare prices at Epic Sports with other retailers, we focused on three key items: baseball bats, fielding gloves, and cleats. Here's where they landed:

• For the bats, out of the 224 options, there are some plastic toy bats before you find the ones which are better for playing the sport, such as the Easton Pro Stix training set for $12.29, up to the Easton Fastpitch bat for $499.99. The results can be filtered by category, length, weight, purpose, brand, material, barrel, and customer rating.
• For the gloves, the 376 selections range in price from $14.49 for a Rawlings youth glove to the high end All-Star Pro-Elite Catching Mitt at $449.95. Results can be filtered by category, color, brand, price, and customer rating.
• For the cleats, only 7 options appear when trying to narrow the footwear category. You might find more with a search in the toolbar, but beware that other items are mixed in. (Unless you know what you're looking for exactly, this is not the place to browse). The cleats we saw for baseball, softball, and youth ranged in cost from $8.99 to $61.99, but there were very few options and no name brands.

Overall, while Epic Sports has a good selection of fielding gloves, we were disappointed by their cleats selection and the difficulty browsing we encountered.

Custom team uniforms offered

Epic Sports offers custom sublimated uniforms for your team if this is something you are interested in. However, numerous reviewers complained about receiving them in time.

Shipping can be expensive and take a long time

Some higher-priced items on Epic Sports are marked with "free shipping" on their listings. The company offers "economy shipping" via USPS but it is non-guaranteed delivery and could take up to six days longer than the estimated date to arrive. Once you have an item in your cart, you can estimate shipping based on your zip code. We put in a $20 baseball bat and found charges ranging from economy ($6. 24 and it would be estimated to arrive in two weeks) and standard ($12. 58 and arriving slightly sooner than economy) to one-day shipping for over $53. If you want to get something small, this is not the place to buy it with shipping that can cost more than half of the item's cost or more than the item itself.

Unclear rewards program

Epic Gold Points are earned on purchases to give rewards, which expire 18 months after they are earned. However it was difficult to learn anything about the rewards program beyond this information found on the FAQs page, including how to sign up.

Returns incur restock fee

Returns must be submitted for authorization online prior to shipping them back to Epic Sports or they will not be accepted. They say all products are guaranteed against factory defects and workmanship, and if they are defective, they may be replaced or repaired. Returns must be made within 30 days of purchase (with proof of purchase) and will incur a 20-50% restocking fee, less shipping charges, as long as they are in their original factory packaging. This policy is the worst we have seen as we reviewed the baseball equipment retailers. Only buy if you're certain you're not going to need to return it.

Customer feedback is mixed and concerning

On the BBB, Epic Sports is not accredited and has a "B+" rating due to the 106 complaints filed against the business in the past three years. Shoppers complain about lost items, partial refunds for incorrect items, and terrible customer service. Surprisingly, across online review platforms, Epic Sports has high ratings, with over 4.5 stars out of 5 on multiple sites. Many mentioned the shipping takes longer than expected "but the low prices made it worth the wait." Most people are happy with their orders, though there are complaints about high shipping charges which are not refunded on returns. Reading about some of the complaints was cause for concern: shoppers say the return process is terrible, they're unhappy with the product, items look cheap, and customer support is frustrating. One irate customer emphatically stated, "I wouldn't order from them [again], even if they paid me to take the merchandise."

Look elsewhere

While there are numerous positive reviews for Epic Sports, we looked closely at the complaints. When combined with the terrible return policy, lackluster website, and slow shipping times, we recommend looking elsewhere for your baseball equipment.
