Green Bean Buddy is an unusual name for a company with an unusual story. Company creator Markus journeyed through Peru, looking for wisdom from Peruvian elders on how to provide eco-friendly, time-honored solutions for a variety of first-world problems. Sure, that comes off as being a little "out there", perhaps, but you might want to take a look at Green Bean Buddy's Bug Killer if you have a problem that's bigger than bed bugs.
100% kill rate
The American Academy Entomological Program field tested this product over a 12-month period and discovered that it has a 100% kill rate with just one application - not just for bed bugs, but also roaches, fleas, ticks, ants, spiders, mites, gnats, lice and more. So, if you were hoping for an all-in-one insect solution, this could be it.
Odor-free and safe
Green Bean Buddy's Bug Killer is odor-free, safe for use around children and pets, and doesn't stain surfaces. Active ingredients include soybean oil, cinnamon, sodium benzoate, aluminum sodium and calcium silicate, iron oxide, magnesium silicate and water.
According to the company, this insect treatment works by "hacking" pests' neurotransmitters, dehydrating them so that they can't reproduce, and leaving a residual barrier that prevents reinfestation. They recommend that you spray the product in a spot-treat fashion without drenching the areas, retreating every 7 to 14 days as the infestation diminishes. The site even describes the "waterfall and panic" cycle as pests are brought out of hiding areas, bite more as they panic before dying, and then eventually die of dehydration. That doesn't sound like a lot of fun, but hey, if it works!
Several sizes available
There are several sizes available for purchase. Most customers start with the 32oz spray bottle for $32. (If you REALLY like Bug Killer, you can even get it in a 55-gallon drum!)
Return policy
How does this company line up when it comes to a satisfaction guarantee and return policy? You can get a full refund of anything that is unopened and unused, while consumables will receive a prorated refund based on how much of the product is left at the time of the return. If it's a non-consumable (like an electronic insect repeller), you'll get a full refund if it's in unused condition, and an 85% refund (because of a 15% restocking fee) if you're returning it in used condition.
However, the link on the Green Bean Buddy returns page that you'll need to click to initiate the return process was broken; given that we found several customer complaints over several months that mentioned the issue, it makes us wonder if the company is sincere about accepting returns!
Customer friendly
On a slightly more positive note, Green Bean Buddy (under the name of My Cleaning Products) had an "A" rating from the Better Business Bureau at the time of our most recent visit. And, we found several dozen customer compliments about the effectiveness of the Bug Killer product, especially when used exactly according to directions. Those reviews spanned several years, so it's clear that this is a product that's still effective at tackling all kinds of insect issues. Plus, for the few negative comments out there, we saw that Green Bean Buddy reps were responsive to the customers and genuinely wanted to help solve their issues.
While there are some improvements we'd like to see with the Green Bean Buddy site (like the missing returns link and less-than-impressive return policy itself), this product offers an affordable, comprehensive solution to people who are struggling to control bug issues with many different types of insects. Bug Killer is definitely worth considering if you haven't yet found a solution for your bed bug problem and would like to get rid of other pests in one fell swoop.
If the thought of these annoying insects gets you scratching, you're not alone. Infestations have been found in all 50 states, with single-family homes, apartments and condos, and hotels/motels being the top three places bed bugs are being discovered on a regular basis.
How do you know if bed bugs are a problem where you live, work or sleep? While you may have discovered feces in your mattress, carpets or flooring, the most commonly-reported signs are bites and welts on the body. Fortunately, bed bugs don't transmit diseases when they bite, but because the pests are so small - hatchlings can even fit through a needle hole in a mattress! - it can make them hard to detect until there's a full-blown infestation in progress.
Pretty gross, right? There are some preventative measures you can take to try and avoid bringing bed bugs into your home, like washing your clothes and luggage after taking a trip and carefully inspecting any previously-owned clothing or furniture you buy before putting it in your house. Unfortunately, even the most careful, clean people can still unwittingly become the transportation method bed bugs use to invade a home.
While 97% of professional exterminators have treated homes and businesses for bed bugs in the last year, those treatments aren't always effective. They tend to take a one-and-done approach, but that doesn't always get into every nook and cranny where insects hide - and then the problem starts all over again. Plus, exterminators tend to use harsh chemicals that may be an issue for people with sensitivities or for pets in the home.
For that reason, many people are turning to safe and effective alternative methods of eliminating bed bugs. Available for purchase online, these treatment systems tend to use more natural ingredients to get rid of infestations, and they can be reapplied as thoroughly and often as desired. However, not all bed bug products are created equal, so keep these criteria in mind as you select the treatment that's right for you:
