With everyone talking about fitness, commuting, and staying closer to home, bike buying is hotter than ever. But for those new to the bike-shopping game, it can be overwhelming to navigate all the jargon and numerous parts. That's why online stores have become a popular choice for enthusiasts and cyclists looking to purchase bicycle parts.
One of the primary advantages of buying bicycle parts from online stores is the vast array of options available at your fingertips. Online retailers often carry a broader selection of products compared to traditional brick-and-mortar bike shops. This extensive variety lets you explore and compare various brands, models, and features, which means you can find precisely what suits your needs and preferences. These online stores often feature detailed product descriptions, user reviews, and compatibility information, which helps you make more informed decisions.
Wednesday, February 19th
Since 1994, Jenson USA has been in the business of selling bikes, parts, and accessories. They've got an extensive selection of top-brand items available on their website and also offer full bicycle builds in their stores located in Corona and Riverside, California. Shopping with them is a breeze - you can either order online and enjoy free shipping for orders over $50 (down from $60 in our last review) or opt for in-store pickup with free shipping for all orders.
User-friendly shopping experience
The Jenson USA website is super user-friendly with a prominent search engine that gives you just the right amount of info about products related to what you're looking for. Not sure what you want? Just start typing, and helpful suggestions will appear to get you started.
Diverse product categories and "Gear Stoke"
You can also browse through various categories like brands, bikes, components, apparel, and accessories. They've got a cool section called "Gear Stoke," showcasing their customers' favorite products along with their short reviews. It's a handy tool when you need to figure out if a particular product or brand is right for you. Trust us: this section can get pretty addictive, as it keeps showing you more and more interesting items as you scroll down, like a Pinterest-like "infinity scroll."
Informative blog and brand catalog
Their blog section is worth checking out too. It's not just your regular blog but rather a collection of detailed guides and product reviews. You can find the latest articles at the top and also a categorized and alphabetized list of topics for specific searches. In addition, they've got an alphabetical list of brands and a visual, clickable catalog of brands based on recognizable logos. And if you're on the hunt for great deals, just hit the "Sale" checkbox in the store's filter and you'll see all the discounted items.
Excellent price matching and generous return policy
Jenson USA also offers a fantastic price-matching policy. Within 30 days, if they lower their own price or you find a better price with a competitor, they'll match it and even throw in free shipping (if the competitor offers it) to win your business. The last time we reviewed Jenson USA, they offered a whole year (365 days) to return any item in its new, unused/uninstalled condition and get a refund for the original purchase price. That return policy has changed to 90 days of the original purchase. But it's still a fairly generous return policy.
Positive customer reviews and helpful service responses
The reviews for Jenson USA are glowing, with tens of thousands of satisfied customers sharing their experiences. Trustpilot rings it in at an average of 4.5 stars with 90% being 4- and 5-star reviews. The Better Business Bureau has two separate "A+” and accredited ratings for each of Jenson's main California locations. Google reviews for both locations are also positive (between 4.1 and 4.4). The company actively responds to any negative reviews online and does its best to resolve customer service issues.
Top-notch features and highest rating
With top-notch reviews, a wide range of products from the best brands, a user-friendly and engaging website, price matching, and the most generous return policy of all the vendors we've reviewed, there's no doubt why Jenson USA earns our highest rating.
Founded in 1986, Cambria Bike embarked on a mission to provide top-notch cycling experiences to local bicyclists. Their growth journey has led to the establishment of an additional store and the development of a comprehensive website featuring renowned brands and products.
Intuitive search and streamlined browsing
The website boasts an intuitive product and brand search function, which dynamically suggests popular pages, categories, and products as you type. The browsing experience is streamlined, with categories encompassing bikes, frames & forks, components, wheels & tires, accessories, apparel, and brands. An exclusive section highlights hot deals, where you can find discounted prices on the entirety of Cambria Bike's offerings.
Shopping filters and special offers empower your search
The website's shopping filters grant you the freedom to refine your search based on multiple attributes, including bike type, color, price, gender, vendor, wheel size, frame size, material, fork travel, and speed. Plus there are filters for special offers and discounts.
Your best deal awaits with price matching
A standout feature is Cambria Bike's commitment to price matching. If you locate the same item at a competitor's lower price, they match that price. However, we could no longer find their additional 5% discount - a noteworthy advantage that customers used to enjoy.
Customer-centric returns and warranty support
Additionally, this bicycle parts store boasts a customer-friendly return policy. Within 365 days of purchase, you can return items in unused, new condition, and in their original packaging for a full refund. This policy, however, doesn't encompass customized products. The returns process is initiated via the vividly visible "Open Cambria Bike Returns Center" link. Moreover, Cambria Bike offers assistance in navigating manufacturer warranty claims, showcasing their dedication to customer support.
Reputation turnaround: from setbacks to positive reviews
It is very much worth mentioning that during our last review we noticed a bad trend of 1-star reviews. We can happily revise our assessment now in that the problems seem to have been resolved with mostly positive reviews since that time. They now enjoy a 4.1 rating on Google, 4.6 on Trustpilot, and 4.8 on both Shopper Approved and Sitejabber. Their Better Business Bureau listing is still conspicuously missing, however.
User-focused website and positive reviews provide confidence in quality
Cambria Bike offers an effective user experience for finding products on their website. Improved reviews make it much easier to trust that the buying process, customer service, and quality will be pleasant. While the price matching is always a welcome surprise, we'd love to see them offer their additional percentage discount on price matching again in the future. But at the same time, that doesn't hinder us from highly recommending them as a go-to choice for bicycle parts.
Performance Bicycle is a passionate cycling community based in Northern California that offers gear, support, and camaraderie for riders seeking to enhance their cycling experiences. They prioritize transparent and honest service, aiming to guide customers to the right products.
Excellent customer service
Originally established in 1981 as a family-run catalog business, Performance Bicycle grew into an extensive online retailer with numerous physical stores. In 2019, it was acquired by AMain Sports & Hobbies, a prominent player in the hobbies industry. Though the physical stores have closed, Performance Bike remains a dedicated online platform providing excellent customer service and a wide product range. The company's history reflects its commitment to cycling and quality service, inviting enthusiasts to connect through various platforms.
Website design and navigation is solid
The website for Performance Bicycle is understated but elegant in its approach to providing the most bang for your attention buck. They show three prominent value-based offers followed by images representing the main areas of their website: Accessories, Bikes & Frames, Clothing, Maintenance, Parts, and Tires & Tubes. After that you find specials, what has just arrived, and top-selling products and brands. The search bar uses auto-complete to suggest products and categories as you type.
Ease of browsing and product filtering tempered by small fonts
Digging into the parts page you can browse subgroups of parts on the left-hand side of the page and go directly to them in one click. From there you can filter on product availability per store, brand, and other part-specific categories. Under each product you can see that a place for star review ratings exists, but a large number of parts have no reviews at all. You can sort the parts by best selling but there's not an option for top rated. Once we clicked around for a while, we did find some reviewed products and were able to read more on their experiences. The one downside? The main body text throughout the site is in a font that's very small and hard to read.
Detailed customer education and support
For customer education, there is a large blog with a variety of topics. The footer contains eight FAQ topics organized as General, Financing, a part manufacturer's bankruptcy, canceling orders, gift cards, pre- and back-ordering, rewards points, and wish list. You can also find information about how to contact Performance Bicycle, return products, the VIP rewards program, terms and conditions, local inventory, sponsorship requests, and "Do Not Sell” options. For shopping help, you can find a very helpful list of discount coupons, shipping information, payments accepted, and shipping restrictions.
Contact options and social media
To contact Performance Bicycle, just go to their Contact Us page to find a form, office locations and times, and phone numbers and times. There is also a live chat feature as well as six different social media channels. That's perfect if you're not quite sure what part you need or you want to make sure you've picked the correct one.
Positive customer reviews and ratings
Performance Bicycle has a 4.9-star rating with almost 1,600 reviews. The vast majority, 99%, are four- and five-star reviews. The Trustpilot review page shows no reviews whatsoever, either positive or negative, but it is a claimed profile so perhaps their review-gathering efforts are tightly focused on Google. Their Better Business Bureau rating is an accredited "A+” since 2007. That's a long track record of positive customer interactions.
Balancing design and reviews
While the website design is generally user-friendly, limited on-site reviews and small font sizes are points to consider. However, their impressive 4.9-star rating from almost 1,600 reviews and an "A+” Better Business Bureau rating highlight their credibility and customer satisfaction. For cycling enthusiasts seeking gear and support, Performance Bicycle is a promising choice to explore.
Since its inception in 1974 as a modest mail-order bicycle and parts enterprise, Nashbar has grown into a renowned establishment with a loyal clientele. Its straightforward website presents an array of thousands of products sourced from reputable brands such as Bell, Garmin, Mavic, Shimano, Yakima, and more.
User-friendly shopping experience
The shopping process on Nashbar's platform is exceptionally user-friendly. You can execute searches using part numbers or keywords to precisely locate what you need. Alternatively, you can navigate through categories like Accessories, Bikes & Frames, Clothing, Maintenance, Parts, Tires & Tubes, and Top Brands. To further refine your search, the filtering feature lets you narrow down by store, category, product status, brake type, gender, speed, and other facets of bicycle parts and accessories.
More user content and guides would be useful
It would be nice, however, to see more helpful user content in the form of videos, podcasts, and articles as well as more how-to guides than just the "Bicycle Assembly” page, which only had two YouTube videos, one of which was unavailable at the time of this review. Let's just say it's an area where Nashbar has a bit of room for improvement.
Accessible customer service and return procedures
For assistance, Nashbar's customer service is just a call, chat, or online form away. Return procedures are also convenient, with advance communication unnecessary unless you're seeking a refund. As long as the item is in new condition and in its original packaging, you can opt for store credit. For other scenarios - refunds, returns outside the 30-day window - contact with a store rep is necessary, and Nashbar might impose a 15% restocking fee.
Balancing quality and price
While Nashbar's products aren't synonymous with the high-end, peak-performance, premium-priced category in the bicycling community, they are recognized for offering good quality at reasonable prices. This positioning has led to an accumulation of extensive positive feedback from satisfied customers on Google Reviews and on the Better Business Bureau website, which lists an "A+” accredited rating. Nashbar's broad selection, commendable customer service, generous return policy, and product reliability have earned it widespread acclaim.
Mixed customer experiences
Occasional exceptions exist, however. A tiny subset of customers reported unfavorable experiences, citing difficulties related to gift card redemption and interactions with impolite customer service representatives. Those were balanced in number with positive reviews.
Good option for mid-tier bicycle parts
Regardless of the need for more user education and DIY support, and considering the substantial majority of positive reviews, Nashbar keeps its standing as a dependable source for bicycle parts and accessories.
Focusing exclusively on mountain biking, Worldwide Cyclery has an extensive inventory that includes bikes, frames, accessories, apparel, and components. With locations in Newbury, CA, Lancaster, PA, and Sparks, NV, alongside their online platform, they've established a comprehensive reach. What sets them apart is their genuine passion for cycling, evident in their team of enthusiasts who actively engage in regular riding.
User-friendly shopping experience with advanced features
Their website stands out for its user-friendly interface and smooth navigation. An advanced search feature enhances the shopping experience by displaying images and attributes of potential matches as you type, streamlining the process. Moreover, a dedicated sale section on the site ensures that you don't miss out on special offers and clearance items spanning various categories.
Empowering customers through education and information
A noteworthy aspect of Worldwide Cyclery is their commitment to educating customers. Through a regularly updated collection of informative videos, podcasts, and detailed articles, they offer clear instructions on new products, product usage and installation, and valuable cycling tips. This emphasis on empowering customers with knowledge reflects their dedication to enhancing the overall biking experience.
Demo bike program
Worldwide Cyclery goes the extra mile by offering a demo bike program within their physical stores. This program allows you to try out several top-brand mountain bikes for a limited period, providing an invaluable opportunity to determine which model best suits your height and build. This personalized approach underscores their commitment to ensuring your utmost satisfaction with your purchase.
Custom bike builds
For those seeking a tailored biking solution, Worldwide Cyclery provides custom bike builds. These bespoke creations incorporate high-end components and are crafted to meet your individual requirements, showcasing their dedication to meeting the unique needs of each customer. Of course, none of this is directly related to buying bicycle parts, but it's a good illustration of the lengths to which this retailer will go to help customers get exactly what they need.
Customer-focused shipping and return policies for a seamless experience
One of their standout advantages is the inclusion of free shipping for all orders within the U.S. Additionally, their 45-day return policy demonstrates their commitment to customer satisfaction. While unused items in their original packaging can be returned within 45 days, the buyer is responsible for shipping costs. Notably, bikes and frames are eligible for store credit returns, no exceptions, while other items can be refunded or exchanged if still in original packaging and unused before 45 days.
Good reputation and recognition in customer reviews
A testament to their quality service, Worldwide Cyclery boasts over 2,000 5-star Google reviews from customers who visited their three locations. However, we would like to have seen reviews published for each product on their website, or at least a page containing all of their reviews as some other sites do. Unfortunately, their Trustpilot reviews were only in the 3.9 range, with a 60/30 split between positive and negative reviews. However, the number of reviews is markedly lower there, so it's likely not representative of the average customer experience. The Better Business Bureau score is an "A+” rating with only a few closed complaints in 3 years.
A premier destination for mountain biking enthusiasts
In the realm of bicycle parts stores, Worldwide Cyclery does well with a customer-centric approach and commitment to excellence, which contributes to their high levels of customer satisfaction. While their focus on mountain biking products and lack of on-site, per-product reviews restricts them from attaining the absolute highest rating here, they indisputably earn the title of a good destination for individuals seeking a top-tier bicycle parts store with a specialization in high-quality mountain bikes.
Step into the world of Bike Berry and discover an exciting range of motorized bicycles. The predominant emphasis on motorized bikes becomes evident when you observe the proportion of these bikes compared to traditional ones showcased on their website.
Increased product availability
Since the last time we reviewed Bike Berry, the sheer amount of products on their site has bloomed, as has the availability of those products. Whereas before we saw few products in stock, we now cannot find any that aren't in stock. This is a huge improvement. They no longer seem to be stocking products based on demand, which, arguably, could have been due to various national emergency factors that are now in the past.
Website redesign is a big improvement
The Bike Berry website itself seems to have undergone a massive redesign. It now sports an autocomplete search bar that shows you products and blog posts as you type what you're looking for. It could have more, like other sites do, such as suggestions of categories, on-sale items, and products with high reviews. Product pages now boast multiple images of almost everything in their inventory. It is clear on shipping, financing through Klarna, reviews, other items you may like to buy, and all the information about customer service and technical support.
Free lifetime technical support and customer service
Speaking of support, Bike Berry offers free technical support for the lifetime of the product as well as phone, live chat, and email support options. You can track your order, and access a helpful blog to learn more about their products and how to use and install them.
Just average for returns
Now, let's dig into the area of returns. Bike Berry extends a 30-day window for returning products in pristine condition: those that have not been installed, fueled, started, or ridden. To initiate a return, you'll need to secure an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) from their customer service department. Keep in mind that all returns are subject to a restocking fee amounting to 15%. If Bike Berry wants to compete with the heavyweights, they could offer a 90- or even 365-day return policy.
Respectable reputation and customer reviews
Further adding to the sparkle of their improvements, Bike Berry enjoys a respectable reputation among its customer base. Confusingly, where we once counted over 3,500 customer reviews, we now count less than 1,000, which is a notable drop. However, on both Trustpilot and Google Reviews, over 90% of respondents posted either four or five stars for Bike Berry. Unfortunately, we found the Better Business Bureau rating to be very lackluster at an "F” rating with 69 complaints closed over the last 3 years.
Bike Berry is excellent if you need motorized bike parts
Bike Berry has improved by leaps and bounds as an online shopping destination for those seeking motorized bike-related components. Just be aware that while the reviews are still positive, they have dropped substantially in number. However, for the majority of customers, this retailer might be what they're looking for in delivering the diverse selection and consistent availability of bicycle parts necessary for their motorized bicycles.
Originating as Mountain Bike Warehouse in 1992, Bicycle Warehouse has transformed from a niche outlet into a multi-store bicycle retailing powerhouse. Catering to cycling enthusiasts of all stripes, the company offers an extensive selection of bicycles, gear, and services. With brick-and-mortar stores spread across Southern California and a robust online presence, they reach cycling aficionados across the nation.
Seamless website navigation and shopping experience
Navigating the company's website is a breeze, thanks to its user-friendly layout and visually appealing design. Each product listing is accompanied by user ratings, providing insights into the quality and popularity of items. To facilitate efficient browsing, the website features convenient filters that allow customers to refine their searches based on factors such as price, brand, size, color, and more. Special deals and offers take center stage, making it easy for shoppers to dive straight into their shopping journey.
Efficient customer assistance and services scheduling
When seeking assistance or servicing, customers can select a preferred location, schedule a date, and choose from a range of required services. An interesting observation is the slight discrepancy in the number of listed locations between the top menu and the service selector, which could be addressed for clarity.
Well-structured parts section with some inventory gaps
Browsing through the parts section reveals a well-structured menu with nine distinct categories. These encompass a wide array of components, including brakes, tools, handlebars, chains, shifters, pedals, saddles, cranksets, and forks. While this categorization streamlines the shopping process, it's worth noting that certain pages, such as Bike Handlebars & Grips and Bicycle Chains & Cassettes, displayed no available inventory during our exploration.
Search bar placement and functionality
While the website's design boasts many positives, there is room for improvement in the prominence of the search bar. Unlike some competing platforms, Bicycle Warehouse's search function is tucked behind an icon, requiring an extra click to access. However, the inclusion of a type-ahead feature that suggests products as users type mitigates this inconvenience.
Good customer support and education, but missing a blog section
Turning to customer support and education, Bicycle Warehouse provides a valuable resource through frequently asked questions, detailed brand pages, reassembly instructions, and guidelines for bike trade-ins. It's important to note that the absence of a blog section sets them apart from other bike part companies.
Diverse financing options and reward programs
For those seeking financing options, Bicycle Warehouse offers a variety of choices, including Affirm, Snap! Finance, Shop Pay, Synchrony Financial, and PayPal Credit. Additionally, the company incentivizes referrals with discounts, and their Ride It Rewards club promises a range of benefits, such as points, birthday vouchers, and exclusive gear.
Contrasting Reputation: Google Reviews vs. Trustpilot
When considering the company's reputation, it's evident that Bicycle Warehouse has garnered a respectable average rating of 4.5 stars across Google Reviews for its five locations. However, a contrasting picture emerges from Trustpilot reviews, which, based on a limited sample size of eight reviews, reveal a lower overall score of 2.7 stars. Negative feedback mainly revolves around issues related to returns, customer service, product quality, and shipping delays. And, that's a huge issue if you're buying your bicycle parts online.
Varied BBB ratings and cautionary note
The company's standing with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) is marked by a mix of ratings. While most of the separate non-accredited listings for individual brick-and-mortar locations hold "D-” grades, a single listing shines with an "A+” rating and no logged complaints. It's important to exercise caution, as the potential for that perfect grade to sink if complaints arise is evident based on the pattern of the other listings.
Comprehensive offerings with consideration for challenges
In conclusion, Bicycle Warehouse offers a comprehensive range of products and services to cater to a diverse audience of cycling enthusiasts. Their user-friendly website and variety of offerings are commendable. However, it's crucial for customers to be aware of the potential challenges highlighted in shopper reviews and BBB ratings, particularly regarding customer service, returns, and product quality. You may want to look at other bicycle parts stores first, and circle back to Bicycle Warehouse if you don't find what you're looking for.
Operating from Des Moines, Iowa, Modern Bike presents an extensive array of bike parts and cycling accessories. However, details about the company's background, history, and reputation are scant, as this information is not provided in their "About" section. Compared with bicycle parts stores that are more than happy to tell you all about their lengthy history in the business, Modern Bike winds up looking a little less appealing.
Good news and bad news on the website user experience and layout
Upon visiting the Modern Bike website, the initial impression falls short of expectations (especially considering that "modern” is literally part of the name). On the positive side, contrary to the prior time we reviewed the site when it appeared dated and somewhat incomplete, it now has lots more information. On the downside, where it once displayed a bunch of categories simultaneously, causing confusion if you were unfamiliar with the specifics of what you were searching for, now it seems too cluttered. Some content, like clearance specials, appeared in white text in a light green background making it very hard to read. And sales content was mixed together with customer reviews and hiring advertisements. It's a bit overwhelming, especially when you're shopping for something simple like a bike chain or new tubes for your tires.
Improved search functionality but image limitations remain
The search feature on Modern Bike's site now has the convenient predictive typing functionality that assists you in identifying available matches for your input. That's an upgrade from the past. Unfortunately, the product images still fail to offer multiple angles. Accessing a larger view of each item continues to require an excessive number of clicks. That's just one more way that the Modern Bike site feels a little less than polished.
Selection is decent overall
On a more positive note, the overall selection of bike parts at Modern Bike is good. You'll find plenty of brands to choose from, ranging from Shimano to Surly, in pretty much any category you can imagine needing for your ride. And, as you browse, it's easy to see related products that might be what you're looking for, maybe in a different size or by an alternate manufacturer. Most items also show that they ship for free, which can make it a little more affordable to shop here than with rival bike parts stores.
Uninspiring return and exchange policies
Distinctive features found on other reviewed sites, such as a price-matching guarantee, are absent from Modern Bike's offerings. Their return and exchange policies align with industry standards but pale in comparison to those advertised by their competitors. A 30-day window is provided for returning or exchanging unused and undamaged bicycle parts, provided they are in their original, undamaged packaging. In essence, the relatively limited timeframe means that if you encounter any issues with the functionality of their bicycle parts within this period, you'll need to navigate within the confines of the policy, unless the issues stem from manufacturing defects.
Few but positive customer reviews
Unfortunately, Modern Bike's once-substantial cache of nearly 1,500 customer reviews on Google has been reduced somehow to only 550. But, they're almost all five-star reviews. They're not accredited with the Better Business Bureau but their "B-” rating and only 1 complaint closed in 3 years is in their favor still. This suggests that while the company might keep certain aspects under wraps (like their company history), they are evidently delivering on their service commitments.
Try other bicycle parts stores first
If you can overlook the website's suboptimal user experience and lack of price matching, the amount of positive customer reviews might yet provide a compelling reason to consider making a purchase from them, especially if the bicycle parts you want are available within their inventory. Still, we recommend checking out the other bike parts dealers before considering Modern Bike.
The Universal Cycles website is the least well-designed bicycle parts site of all that we have reviewed. The design is very much at or prior to the level you would have seen in 2003, which is the bottom of the date range listed in their site's copyright message. Over 20 years later, this Geocities-style layout is hard to look at knowing that methods exist to significantly upgrade the design at low cost. It's enough to make you wonder if their approach to bike parts is similarly outdated.
Challenges with viewing new products
One frustrating aspect of this site is trying to view the newest bike products. They sit in a box that scrolls horizontally to the right. With almost 190 products, that's a non-starter. Other categories have the same treatment. So we just clicked the "View all” links on each box to see the full list.
Usability issues with product listings
That full list wasn't exciting or easy to look at either, but it did have enough information to make it possible to begin selecting from the many choices. We could at least filter by category and company (both immensely long lists), or by name, price, newest and top rated items. Bicycle parts pages were mainly a photo accompanied by very long bullet lists of specifications that should have been broken up into tables or accordion lists for easier focus on what the buyer is looking for.
Expect to work at it
The persistent list of categories on the left-hand side of every page is monolithic and impenetrable. It's advisable to use the "search page” feature of your browser to search for keywords to find what you want. If you shop for bike parts here, expect to do a lot of work to find what you need.
Innovative store features and inventory
A look at Universal Cycles' store location page revealed an impressive-sized store with photos of lots of inventory and options for people visiting the physical store. If your item isn't in the main store, you can place your order and they transfer it into the store for free or ship it to you via UPS. And you can use the website to filter for just what's in stock in the store. Maybe there's at least one upside of getting bike parts through this retailer?
Unremarkable customer reviews and ratings
The Better Business Bureau rates Universal Cycles at a disappointing "D-” with 2 complaints closed in the last 3 years. Out of six Trustpilot reviewers, only two of them gave five star reviews. The other four ranked them at one star for bad customer service, ordering experience, and website design. On Google, the reviews are more positive for the physical locations, at an average of 4 stars across 364 reviews. People liked the guidance they got in their purchase, good customer service, and low-key sales approaches. Sadly, that's not enough to convince us that it's worth slogging through the horrible online experience to see if they have the bike parts that we needed.
Avoid for now until their site is redesigned
While they do have some moderate levels of positive reviews and good in-store inventory levels with great customer experience for their hyper-local visitors, Universal Cycles needs to massively improve its website game to come closer to being in competition with the other major online bike parts stores. We recommend you look to the highest-rated bike parts companies we reviewed.
Compared to other companies we reviewed, the Bike Parts website is spare and uninspirational. While it has a large assortment of all kinds of parts, components, and accessories listed on the home page, the page feels scattered and unorganized -a bit like sorting through a garage junk drawer. There might be something you need there, but there might not.
Complex menu navigation
Each of the main category items in the top-most menu of the site expands when hovered over and exposes a dizzying, confusing, and overwhelming array of categories and subcategories. It feels like you need a search engine specifically for each menu item. It takes up to three or more clicks just to get to a product page depending on how you start.
Limited review and sorting options
There are filters in subcategories so you can narrow down the inventory of bicycle parts to just what you need, though. There isn't a way to sort by most popular according to any reviews. We only saw a spot on each product page where a review might be displayed if any existed, but there was not a way to look up specific reviews without individually clicking on and opening multiple product pages and hoping to find one. We can't even describe the headache we got when looking for something simple like a tube or bike chain, let alone something super-specific for a high-performance bicycle.
Customer support and contact information are hard to come by
Bike Parts offers free shipping on orders over $75. There is a phone number to contact from 10 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday and 10 AM to 5 PM on Saturday. Times listed are in the Mountain time zone, so, depending on where you live, don't call too early or too late. There isn't a direct email address shown on the site for any kind of support, but there is a form you can fill out. As well, there's a Skype address, but it's the first we've seen a bike parts store offer and it's hard to imagine how it would be used for effective customer support given that Skype is in such little use these days.
Lack of accreditation and reviews
The Better Business Bureau shows Bike Parts as non accredited and "Not Rated”. We could not locate any reviews for the company on either Google Reviews or Trustpilot. Is there anyone actually buying bicycle parts here?
Poor website usability and design
In general, the whole website usability and design appeal was off putting enough that it probably would not be a positive experience to buy from Bike Parts. There's no objective or even subjective way to get more information about what their customer service or parts quality is like because of a dearth of customer reviews: as in, there aren't any. We're recommending you avoid Bike Parts and shop with any of the more higher-rated companies.
Price competitiveness is another compelling reason people choose online stores for purchasing bicycle parts. E-commerce platforms frequently offer competitive prices due to lower overhead costs. This means that customers can often find bicycle parts at more affordable rates online than at physical stores. Online shoppers can also compare prices across different websites, ensuring they get the best deal available. Some online stores may also offer promotions, discounts, or loyalty programs that further enhance cost savings.
And who can deny the convenience of shopping online? With just a few clicks, customers can access an extensive catalog of bicycle parts, filter products based on their requirements, and place orders from the comfort of their own homes. This is particularly beneficial for people with busy schedules or those residing in areas with limited access to bike shops. Online stores are open 24/7, allowing shoppers to browse and make purchases at their own convenience.
Still, not all bike stores are created equal. So, how do you decide where to shop? When looking for a bike parts store, consider these important factors:
