Nordstrom has been in business for over 100 years and has made themselves a fashion icon. Since 1901 they've offered clothing, shoes, and accessories for men, women, and children. Their inventory is mind-boggling and all of it can be found on their website. The selection of bridesmaid dresses alone hosts over 1,550 options, leaving no room for a customer to walk away not having found a style and color that is perfect for their favorite ladies at their wedding.

Good variety of colors and sizes

All of the dresses at Nordstrom are ready-made and able to ship. Sometimes when this is the case, you have less color choices and sizing options, but not here. Many of the bridesmaid dresses have 7-10 choices and a variety of sizes. Nordstrom is really transparent about their inventory, so if you see a color and dress size you like, Nordstrom will list the number that are left if there are only a few.

Helpful shopping tips

When trying to decide on sizing, Nordstrom is also good at giving as much information as possible. They'll list if the dress is true to size, runs big, or runs small. They give plenty of information about dress details and care and even give a snippet about the brand for those who are interested. They have a section for customers to leave reviews and photos of the dress, so you'll get a really good idea of quality and fit this way too. Since Nordstrom is so popular, there are lots of reviews on all the dresses for you to read.

Mega price tags

The one and only downside (for some people) of buying bridesmaid dresses or anything else from Nordstrom is that they are a posh store with posh prices. A sleek, long, plain black bridesmaid dress will be at least $200 and there are quite a few dresses that are priced at nearly $1,000. The very cheapest dress you'll find is about $100, so be prepared to fork out a bit of money if you have a lot of bridesmaids. On the bright side, shipping is free.

No return limit

The most generous return policy on the planet can be found at Nordstrom (Costco might be a close contender... but they are irrelevant here). There is no set time limit for how long you have to send your bridesmaid dresses back if they don't meet your expectations or fit correctly. Nordstrom wants to make sure their customers are truly satisfied, so they make their policies as flexible as possible. If you want to make a return by mail, you can print out a prepaid shipping label on Nordstrom's website or you can just pop into their location nearest to you and do your return that way. If you have your receipt, you'll get your money back in the form of payment that was used; otherwise, they'll load a Nordstrom gift card for you.

Trustworthy company

The Better Business Bureau has given Nordstrom an "A-” rating. Everything you find at Anthropologie will be chic and make a big statement. You can sort through their collection by color, length, material, size, price, sleeve length, and neckline. It will save you some heartbreak just to sort by color initially in case you fall in love with a style that doesn't come in the color you need that fits your wedding theme.

You're not shopping at Anthropologie if you're on a budget or aim to find an affordable dress that will get the job done. Here you're going all out and choosing a dress that will make a dramatic entrance. You'll spend at least $200 or more on a single bridesmaid dress. For the sake of this review, we're comparing simple, neutral maxi gowns. A sleeveless, square neck gown with no pattern (that actually comes in 7 colors) is $248 at Anthropologie. That's quite the price tag, especially if you're purchasing a bunch of them.

Free shipping over $50

If you spend $50+ at Anthropologie, your order will ship for free. It's possible that the dresses you're wanting will be in-stock at a local store, but it's more likely that they'll need to be shipped. Standard shipping is 4-8 business days, but if you need your dresses expedited, you could pay an added fee of $10 to $15 to get your order in 1-3 days instead.

30-day return policy

To start a return at Anthropologie, you can do it straight from their website. They will deduct a $5.95 shipping fee from all orders returned online, so keep this in mind. You'll have 30 days to send back your dress as long as it is in new, unworn, and unwashed condition.

Satisfaction depends on the product

Anthropolgie has a "meh” rating from the Better Business Bureau. They landed a solid "B” since they've had quite a few complaints and overall mixed reviews online. Others are disappointed in the quality or color/sizing discrepancies they see online. So much of it depends on the product you're purchasing. However, we have no concerns about the reliability or legitimacy of the business. Rather, you're going to find people spending a lot of money here and being highly critical of their experience because of it.

In 2019, they opened a fulfillment center in Pennsylvania as an effort to get people's orders out as quickly as possible. People turn to Lulus for trend-forward formal wear, shoes, accessories, tops, and bottoms. They have a huge selection of unique styles of all types of clothing that are sure to fit anyone's taste in apparel.

Easy to narrow down options

Lulus features over 630 styles in all different shades, lengths, and necklines. You can refine your search through these options by size, color, price, style, neckline, sleeve length, and dress length. Most dresses come in 1-3 colors, but you'll sometimes get lucky and find a dress that comes in up to 12 different colors.

Great sizing information

Lulus has a comprehensive website that provides all the details you'd want on a bridesmaid dress before making a purchase. They have a few photo angles of the dresses, a good description of the dress with info on how to care for it, the materials it's made of, and the size and fit. Lulus will give recommendations about if the garment is true to size, what undergarments if any would work with the style, and if the fabric has a bit of stretch. These little details make it so much easier to know if it will fit different body types rather than just a standard numeral dress size.

Complete the look

If you want to go all out, Lulus gives recommendations based on the dress you're viewing. You might find a lovely handbag that matches, some earrings, shoes, or even a bra that would work underneath.

Watch for sales

If you sign up for emails from Lulus, you'll get 15% off your order. We always recommend doing this to save a few bucks, then down the road if you feel like their marketing is overbearing, you can simply unsubscribe. The least expensive bridesmaid dress at Lulu's was $25 when we were shopping. This was a final-sale clearance dress, but it was beautiful and there were quite a few other styles of dresses around the same price range. They also had a buy 3 get one free sale going on for these dresses, so that would be a fantastic way to score a deal if you're buying for multiple bridesmaids at once.

Low prices

The most expensive dress at Lulus was $166, which is still much cheaper than standard pricing at other stores. A floor-length strapless black dress was about $99, which seemed really reasonable. No matter what style you fall in love with at Lulus, you won't have to spend too much money. Plus, when you spend over $50, you'll get free shipping.

10-day returns for free shipping

Low prices are exciting, but not when they accompany low quality. That's why it's nice that Lulus has unfiltered customer reviews and photos on the dresses they sell. Some are rated pretty high, while others were surprisingly low. Paying attention to what other customers say can save you the hassle of a return if you don't end up liking the dress you buy. If you do need to make a return, you have 30 days to do so in order to receive a full refund and 10 days to send in the return if you want Lulus to pay for the shipping.

Proceed with caution

The Better Business Bureau gives Lulus an "A” rating. Customer reviews are mixed, so although we like everything we see at Lulus, we would proceed with caution. A few people claim that they never received their orders here, which is really disappointing. Others said that some of the sizing was completely off since it was based on UK sizing. Then there are buyers who said their items arrived just fine and they were really pleased with the quality. Your best bet will be to carefully take your measurements and read the customer reviews for each dress.

Above average option on pricing alone

Overall, Lulus is a good option for bridesmaid dresses, especially because their pricing is so great. We want to give them one of our highest ratings, but instead we had to knock them due to the issues some customers have had with receiving orders. BHLDN is an Anthropolgie company that sells bridal gowns, bridal party apparel (flower girls and bridesmaids), wedding jewelry, mother of the bride dresses, formal dresses, and shoes. All the women in your wedding party can be taken care of here! However, you might not want to depend on this company for all of your dresses since the company has such a poor reputation with many unsatisfied customers.

Wide range of colors, styles, and sizes

Macy's is a modern department store that's a sister brand with Bloomingdale's and Bluemercury. Their history dates all the way back to 1858 when the founder, Rowland H. Macy, opened up a dry goods store in New York. Since their humble beginnings, Macy's has grown to having an annual revenue of $23B+ with brick-and-mortar stores all throughout the country and a robust online platform where they sell clothing for men, women, and children, toys, furniture, jewelry, and handbags.

Small bridesmaid-specific inventory

Macy's has a really small selection of bridesmaid dresses, with just 29 options. None of them really seem like they are the latest styles or something that would be flattering on all body types. You'll probably have more luck if you're browsing through their "formal” dresses that have over 1,500 choices. Really, any formal gown could easily double as a bridesmaid dress.

Mostly floor-length dresses

All but two of the bridesmaid dresses at Macy's are floor-length. Most of them only come in the color that you see, but a few of them have other options you can choose from. It probably won't take anyone long to browse through and decide if any of the gowns here will work for their big day or not. Even though there are plenty of sorting features on the website, you won't need them.

Great product details

All dresses at Macy's come with easy-to-understand descriptions about the sizing, materials and care, and shipping and returns. Our favorite thing they do is tell you how tall their model is and what size she is wearing. How have some retailers still not caught onto how helpful this is for shoppers? They also have the option for customers to leave up to a 5-star rating on the dress, write their opinion of it, and post a picture if they're so inclined. We greatly appreciate this when deciding on major purchases.

Few but expensive choices

If you want to sign up for emails from Macy's so they can send you marketing messages, you'll get a 25% off coupon for your order. Although Macy's often runs sales and you can find some extremely affordable clothing here, their bridesmaid dresses are a bit pricey. Their least expensive one was $68.99, but that was on sale and only came in two colors and very few sizes. For the most part, we would expect to pay at least $100 for a dress, but easily up to $300 for many of them. Regardless of the dress you choose, you'll get free shipping since Macy's offers this for purchases above $49.

30-day return policy

The return policy at Macy's is the industry-standard 30 days for a full refund. As long as you don't wash the dress and all the tags are still attached, you can send it back with no questions asked. Macy's does charge $9.99 as a return shipping fee though, so you won't necessarily get 100% of your money back.

Customer service issues

Macy's has an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a long history of making customers happy. The biggest complaint over the last few months is that their customer service is quite bad. If you need to deal with them for returns or tracking an order, it can be quite a hassle. This isn't the case for everyone, but it is a common theme that people talk about when shopping here. We aren't concerned about product quality, but if you do run into an issue or need assistance from a customer service agent, we aren't sure that you'll have the most positive experience.

Good, not great

If you're just looking at bridesmaid dresses at Macy's, you'll probably be as unimpressed with their selection as we are. However, if you venture to their formal and other types of dresses, you'll have a lot better luck. You could find yourself spending a bit more money here than another store if you don't catch a sale, but Macy's is overall a reliable store to buy from. Since they've had some customer service issues, they've received a good, but not great, rating from us.

The Dessy Group was founded in New York in 1939. They specialize in social occasion dresses and wedding apparel that ships all throughout the United States, UK, Canada, Ireland, and Australia. On top of bridesmaid dresses, customers can buy wedding dresses, accessories, gifts, and get three free swatches of any dress materials they're interested in. The huge inventory of apparel at The Dessy Group is show-stopping, to say the least. They have hundreds of beautiful designs in different fabrics and patterns that would be stunning on any woman.

Gorgeous, organized dress selection

We immediately loved the online shopping experience at The Dessy Group because all their dresses are pre-sorted into colors. So if you're going with lavender (or any other color) for your wedding, you'll immediately be able to see a list of beautiful gowns that fit the criteria. Everything feels so organized and there are over 400 dresses to choose from. Some of the dresses have floral patterns while others are plain, but most have unique features to make the dress stand out.

Custom and ready-made dress options

The trick with The Dessy Group is that some of their dresses are ready to ship while others will need a 9-10 week lead time to be made. When you click on a style, you can sort them between ready-to-ship and special orders. If you're planning ahead and willing to wait, your options for special order bridesmaid dresses are much more vast than the ones that are ready to go. You'll also get specific sizing, so you know that the dress will be perfectly tailored to whoever is wearing it. You'll add a bust size, natural waist, hips, height, and the typical dress size you'd wear from another store. You'll also add your "wear date” just so The Dessy Group is aware of when you need it by.

Order way ahead of time

There are three shipping options for custom dresses depending on how soon you need your order. The pricing will depend on the dress, so we'll use a black maxi dress as an example. The cost of the custom-dress is $231 (most dresses are in the $200 range) and it ships for free in 9-10 weeks once it is done. If you want to rush the order and have it shipped in 7-8 weeks instead, the cost is an extra $50, making the total $281. A few dresses even have the option for super rush shipping which is another $50 and ships in 4-5 weeks. The safest thing to do is just plan way ahead of time if you're shopping at The Dessy Group so you don't have to pay hundreds of extra dollars for your bridesmaid dresses to arrive on time. If you choose a ready-to-ship dress, it leaves the warehouse in just 2-3 business days.

30 days for returns

If you do order a ready-to-ship dress, it is eligible for a full refund within 30 days, minus a $7.95 shipping fee. Special order items are also returnable, but will incur a 25% restocking fee and a $7.95 shipping fee will also be deducted.

Sizing issues

We had a lot of fun shopping online at The Dessy Group, so it was pretty surprising to find that they have a "D-” rating from the Better Business Bureau. Since this was due to their failure to respond to just two customer complaints, we kept searching for what people had to say about their experiences here. Unfortunately, there were a lot of complaints about sizing being way off. When you're doing a custom order that takes weeks to arrive, you can't afford to have the size be wrong.

Customer reviews are hit and miss

Other customers say the dresses were terribly made and not at all worth the cost. There are a few glowing reviews sprinkled in here and there where people had no problems at all and loved the dresses they ordered. There are even some great reviews on the individual dresses that are worth looking at if they're available for the style you're considering.

We're torn

Overall, we wish The Dessy Group was a bit higher quality and that they had better follow through on accurate sizing and deliveries. This seems like such a great place for a bridesmaid dress, but it is expensive and we are nervous about how many people have been upset after receiving their order. We want to give them a higher rating, but instead we don't recommend them as a top place to look for bridesmaid dresses online.

David's Bridal

David's Bridal began in 1950 as a single bridal salon out of Florida. They've since grown into an international destination for people needing special occasion dresses. David's Bridal boasts that 1 in 3 brides buys their wedding dress from them, which is quite a feat. This store is definitely one of the most well-known retailers when it comes to bridal purchases.

Ready-to-ship dresses

You'll find over 210 in-stock and ready to ship bridesmaid dresses from David's Bridal online. Some dress styles come in up to 19 colors, but some have as few as 6 or 7. To start the process of finding dresses that will work best for you, we recommend filtering their selection by color and size. Then you can choose the design you like best as far as length, neckline, sleeves, silhouette, and price.

Expect $70 - $200 for dresses

If you sign up for emails and texts from David's Bridal, you'll get 15% off your next order. We recommend doing this to save a bit, especially if you're buying a bunch of bridesmaid dresses in one order. You should expect a price range of $70 - $200 for most styles. A classy, long, black polyester dress here was on sale for $99 at the time of this review, which is a good deal when compared to other bridesmaid dress retailers. Your order will ship free as long as you spend at least $99.

Read buyer reviews

Customers who have shopped at David's Bridal can leave reviews on the items they purchase. Because of this, you'll find at least a few reviews on most dresses here. Some popular styles have a lot more reviews, so we recommend reading through the ones on the dress you're interested in. We noticed that a lot of them have mediocre ratings, but it's good to know that before making a purchase.

Short return policy

David's Bridal has a weak return policy of only 7 days. As long as you initiate a return within this timeframe, you are eligible for a refund, minus $12.50 for shipping fees. If you live near one of David's Bridal's 195 brick-and-mortar stores, you could save yourself the shipping cost and return it in-person instead.

Major issues

The Better Business Bureau only gives David's Bridal a "C” rating. This isn't great and their customer reviews don't make us feel any better. It seems that over the past year or so, people's experiences have quickly gone downhill. Our guess is that after David's Bridal was sold to Cion Investment Corporation in July of 2023, quite a few changes were made and processes started to fall apart. Wedding dresses that were never delivered, rude customer service, waiting weeks for a refund, and slow shipping even when expedited delivery was paid for are just a few of the serious problems people have faced when they've decided to buy a dress through David's Bridal.

Don't buy here for now

We are sad to see a reputable, well-known wedding company like David's Bridal lose customer satisfaction so quickly. The issues they have created for people are things we want to avoid at all costs. Because of this, we would warn you to steer clear of David's Bridal when purchasing bridesmaid dresses until they can *hopefully* pull it together.

BM Bridal

BM Bridal is based in the United Kingdom and brings over 10 years of experience in design to bring to life hundreds of bridesmaid dress styles and colors. BM Bridal operates under the parent company, SuZhou, that has an unfortunate "F” rating from the Better Business Bureau.

All custom-made dresses

None of the dresses from BM Bridal are ready-made. They offer standard sizing, but also customized sizing, so all their dresses are made to order and the company promises that all of them are done in 3 weeks time. You can browse through hundreds of styles and nearly 50 colors to find the dress you like best. Their sizes range from 2-26, but you can do custom sizing as well. Once you've decided on all your dress details, the company will take 19-25 days to process and an additional 5-7 days to ship.

Try before you buy

BM Bridal advertises that you can try on their dresses for just $15 with free shipping. The process for this involves choosing up to 3 styles that will ship to you for $15 that you have 3 days to try on. If you're the bride buying dresses for your bridesmaids, you could do a few of these orders if you want everyone to have the chance to try on their size and make sure it fits. They won't necessarily be in the color you want, but you will be able to gauge how it fits. Note that if you fail to send the dresses back in time, you will be charged twice the retail price. Eek! For $2 each, you could also order color swatches from BM Bridal to see in-person.

Dresses under $80

When we were shopping at BM Bridal, most of their dresses were listed at 50% off. They also advertised that all their bridesmaid dresses were $69.90, but we did find a few that were listed a bit higher. Either way, you'll most likely spend under $80 on any given dress, which is very competitive. Standard shipping is free, but you could pay $40 per dress for rush shipping that cuts the production time of the dress down a bit.

14-day return policy

The website states that standard size dresses are returnable if they are unwashed, unworn, and in original condition within 14 days of delivery. It will cost $5 to $10 in return fees to send a dress back, so BM Bridal asks that you contact them to work through any issues before sending anything back to them.

Risky choice

There are some customer reviews on the individual bridesmaid dresses at BM Bridal. There aren't many and they are over a period of years. We aren't entirely sure that they are unfiltered or all created by actual customers. The "F” rating that BM Bridal's parent company has is worrisome to us. They do have good reviews from customers, but there are quite a few people who said their dress didn't fit as they expected or it took much longer to arrive than they planned for. When you're dealing with a strict wedding deadline, you can't afford to shop at a place that may or may not get your bridesmaid dresses to you in time.

Not entirely trustworthy

There are more well-liked online retailers that offer custom-made bridesmaid dresses in hundreds of styles and colors, so it seems safer to shop through one of those instead of BM Bridal. BM Bridal has mixed reviews and seems like it may have originated in China based on some wording on their website and the overall design. We don't feel completely confident in the reliability of this business, so we have given BM Bridal one of our lowest ratings.

Cocomelody set out with the goal to help everyone feel unique and beautiful for some of life's most important moments. They've created a cost-efficient measure-to-delivery model to ensure that each dress they create is perfect for their client. Cocomelody has an online store in addition to five brick-and-mortar stores throughout the US. Here you'll get a custom-designed dress tailored to your exact size.

Custom-made dresses

There are five steps in the dress making process at Cocomelody. First, you'll pick your dress style, then get a custom design, try on a sample, have the dress made, then get it delivered to your door. There are over 500 bridesmaid dress styles to choose from that can be made in up to 50 colors. Some of the fabrics include chiffon, tulle, lace, knitted fabric, sequined, velvet, and many others. For $1 each, you can get a material/color swatch and Cocomelody will ship them for free.

Order ahead

It takes 45 days for the production of most dresses, but an exact date will be listed depending on the style you're interested in. Once the dress is ready, it will take about 7-10 business days to ship. Even though Cocomelody says on one area of their website that customers can try on a sample before the dress is made, it doesn't seem that this is actually the case. All the dresses you view will be from the website, not in-person, unless you visit one of their 5 stores.

Take advantage of sales

At the time of this review, Cocomelody had a 25% code for their entire website. This is a good thing to take advantage of since most dresses are around the $120 range. An elegant, classic long black dress with a square neck is $119.99, which is comparable to some other bridesmaid stores we've browsed.

Narrow return window

If you need to return a dress to Cocomelody, only standard size dresses are eligible. You'll also have to send it back within 7 days, which is a very narrow return window, so we foresee some people having issues with this. Just know that you'll need to make a quick decision about whether or not you want to keep your bridesmaid dress so that you don't end up losing money.

BBB is investigating Cocomelody

Cocomelody has a "C” rating from the Better Business Bureau. This is a bit lower than we are comfortable with and it's due to the company's failure to address a pattern of complaints they've received. The BBB launched an investigation into the company after many people reported not receiving the dresses they paid for and weren't able to get a response with details about their order. Not cool! The BBB didn't receive a response about this from the company, which is deeply concerning to us.

Unhappy customers

Knowing Cocomelody's pattern of complaints, it is not surprising that most of their customer reviews over the last few months are extremely negative. Supposedly Cocomelody has lost dresses, never sent them after they've been ordered, has poor customer service and communication, and gives people a really hard time about returns.

Very disappointed

We are very unimpressed with the downhill trajectory that Cocomelody has taken. They were once a highly-rated store, but we no longer recommend them. No matter how tempted you are to buy a dress here, know that you may have a horrible time actually getting it if you place an order. Cocomelody has earned a low rating from us.

Ericdress says they are a small but cutting-edge company created by young, passionate, and visionary people who set the standard for "everyday products, home furnishings and more.” This is an interesting description since the only things they sell are women's clothing, men's clothing, and boots. Where this company is based out of and how they came to be is a mystery since their "About Us” page dives into the bright future of e-commerce and some other random tidbits. Needless to say, Ericdress gives off some sketchy vibes from the get-go.

Terrible website

There are 70 bridesmaid dresses at Ericdress, but no way to filter through them. Since this is one of the smallest selections we've found, it isn't the end of the world to have to scroll through all the photos, but still it's a poor way to set up a retail website. We want to be able to quickly search by color, dress length, neckline, price, and other basic things to see if they even have anything that meets our criteria. Having to select each dress and see what sizes they have in stock is a pain.

Little product information

When you click on a bridesmaid dress, you can see the sizes it comes in and a couple of photos (sometimes blurry) but nothing else. They all come in one single color, so don't bother with hoping you'll find both the color and style you want here. At the very least we wish Ericdress would make it clear how long a customer should expect delivery to take, give information about the dress material and care instructions, or show customer reviews. Instead, it looks like they've stolen a bunch of random pictures of women in dresses and listed them for sale on their site.

Not as cheap as you'd think

All the bridesmaid dresses we saw were listed as being on sale between 30% and 55% off retail price. The cheapest dress we found was $86.98 and the most expensive was $200.46. These prices are comparable to some of our top options for bridesmaid dresses, so even though Ericdress explicitly states that they offer cheap clothing, you really aren't getting as much of a deal here as you might think.

Free shipping

Ericdress says that shipping is free and standard delivery time is 12-20 days. The company claims that within 3 days of placing an order, it will ship from the warehouse. Their shipping information is buried in a list of different countries and a mess of information that doesn't make sense or seem completely relevant, so we'll add that to our list of reasons this website doesn't seem very legitimate.

No returns

It will come as zero surprise to know that Ericdress does not list a return policy on their website. They say that if you go to your account and cancel your order within 24 hours of placing it, you'll get a full refund. If you do it between 24 and 72 hours, you'll get a 70% refund of the total amount, and if you wait until after 72 hours to cancel, you'll get 50% of the total amount back. Spoiler alert: we recommend that you don't even make an order in the first place.

Horrible ratings

When we looked up the Better Business Bureau's rating for Ericdress, we were directed to the BBB's scam tracker. On top of this, nearly 100% of customer reviews are terrible. People say they never receive items they purchase even though the company says they were delivered, they'll give the runaround about products being "lost in transit”, and people never get any sort of refund when they cancel their order. We actually never read anywhere that customers actually received something for their money at all. In all cases, orders were placed and the money was stolen.

Don't even think about it

Most companies don't usually deserve a roast like we've given Ericdress, but it's frustrating when "companies” take advantage of people and are a flat-out scam. We really want to deter people from getting trapped into buying something from Ericdress that either arrives looking nothing like what was posted online or never arrives at all. Weddings are such a special, important day and to have it ruined by a company that is essentially out to steal people's money is the last thing we would want. Ericdress has easily earned our lowest rating.
