On New Year's Day in 2008, Vermont Brownie Company came to life. They pride themselves in using farm-fresh ingredients without any preservatives and shipping all orders in fun, whimsical packaging. All of the brownies sold by this company are baked in small batches, straight from their Vermont bakery, with as many locally sourced ingredients as possible.

Mouth-watering flavors

The brownies from Vermont Brownie Company look absolutely mouth-watering. When we were ordering, the selection of flavors included signature chocolate, candy cane, maple toffee crunch, pumpkin spice, triple chocolate chunk blondie, coconut brownie, apple blondie, peanut butter, walnut chunk, dark chocolate chevre, and espresso. Our mouths were watering by the time we had finished looking into this company and we couldn't wait to get our hands on one of their brownies.

Half or full dozen

Each brownie made by Vermont Brownie Company is approximately 2.5” x 2.75” x 1” and weighs 3 oz. In their monthly brownie program you'll get either a half or full dozen, depending on your preference. Assuming you'll get a rotation of these flavors in your subscription (since they don't specify exactly), you'll get most of these brownies twice if you do a 12-month subscription. Each box includes 12 brownies and nutrition facts for each flavor can be viewed on the website.

First order ships free

You'll need to prepay for all your shipments upfront when you sign up for Feed Your Soul's Brownie of the Month Club. The cost for 3 months is $140.95, the cost for 6 months is $275.70, and the cost for 12 months is $539.40. Shipping and taxes are calculated at checkout. We found that shipment for the first order is free and subsequent orders are free if you are ordering at least 5 deliveries. Otherwise, the cost on deliveries after your first range from $18.34 to $56.76 depending on the speed you choose. Outside of subscriptions, Feed Your Soul offers free shipping on orders over $50.

Freeze for later

Each brownie in your package will come individually wrapped. They should be consumed within 5 days to enjoy them at peak freshness since there are no preservatives in the recipes. There is not much we could find by way of customer reviews about Feed Your Soul. A good choice

Overall we wish there was more information about the Brownie of the Month Club from Feed Your Soul. Details about whether or not you can cancel at any time for a prorated refund, what flavors are in their subscription rotation, and if you ever get to choose what flavors come in a box would be helpful. We like the mission of this company and it's nice that their brownies come individually wrapped to preserve freshness and easily be shared with others. This isn't our top pick among brownie clubs, but Feed Your Soul is still a choice you'll feel good about.

By 1987 they had transitioned to a mail-order company and began to offer a variety of baked goods like cheesecakes, brownies, and crumb cakes. They boast that their delectable baked goods are made from natural, fresh ingredients without any preservatives. Many of them are even gluten-free, making this company a good option for an even wider array of diets.

2 size options

Aside from the option to make one-time purchases of any of David's Cookies products, they offer a Brownie of the Month Club. You can choose between receiving 1 or 2 trays in each delivery. A single tray includes 26 oz. of brownies, so if you're feeding a big family or a larger group, 2 trays (52 oz.) is the way to go. We do wish that the company would clarify approximately how many brownies come in each tray to give some clarification on the quantity that you'd receive (since most of us don't measure out our brownie servings by weight).

Repeat flavors

With each shipment comes a single flavor of brownies. David's Cookies lists out the full year of flavors so you always know what will come ahead of time. Some of their flavors include rocky road, macaroon (coconut), pecan, cheesecake, and blondie with chocolate chips. In total there are just 6 flavors, so they repeat and you could end up getting each flavor twice if you subscribe for a full 12 months.

A full list of ingredients as well as the nutrition facts of each flavor are available to view on David's Cookies' website under "Nutritionals”. Although the company boasts that they have a lot of gluten-free products, none of the brownie flavors we found were gluten-free. Most of them also contain things like egg, milk, soy, and even fish, so if you're concerned about ingredients, pay attention to what is included with each flavor.

Monthly brownie club orders ship on the first Tuesday of each month and are charged on the first day of the month if you choose to pay-as-you-go. Brownie cakes

Luv's Brownies found a way to make the most out of their brownie recipes by creating large cakes for customers, in addition to baking the usual personal-size brownies. They range from 5” personalized heart-shaped brownie cakes for $22.50 to a large brownie tray with a personalized cake surrounded by 6 dozen smaller brownies for $137.50. All the photo listings for the different brownie options here are dark and grainy, so it's hard to see clearly just how professional these brownie cakes would turn out. Also, brownie cakes are only available for delivery in the San Francisco Bay area, so there aren't a lot of people these are actually available for.

Luv Bites

For those who live throughout the United States, the Luv's Brownies subscription is the best way to try out what this company has to offer. You'll get one dozen "Luv Bites” in your subscription delivery every month for just $28. This is a great deal, but you have to consider that these are not full-size brownies. Rather, they are bite-size heart-shaped brownies, so the quantity is much less than what most other companies offer. Still, this is an affordable, cute choice for an individual or small family.

Vague subscription details

It's unclear what flavors you'll receive in a subscription or if they vary at all. We really wish this company included far more information about their subscription than they do. We assume you can cancel anytime, but it's an ongoing pay-as-you-go format, so you don't specify how many months you want to receive orders.

Shipping calculated at checkout

The cost of shipping is calculated at checkout. For us it would be $10 per delivery, bringing each total to $38. This starts to feel like a lot when you consider that you're really only getting the equivalent of about 4 regular-sized brownies that you'd get from subscribing to a club somewhere else.

There is a guarantee in place with all purchases from Luv's Brownies. The company says that you can email or call them if you are unsatisfied for any reason with your purchase. They will refund you the price of your purchase minus shipping or replace your order.

There is no Better Business Bureau rating for Luv's Brownies and although there are testimonials on their website, they aren't unfiltered. We found on a third-party site that Luv's Brownies has about a 4/5 star rating. Many people agree that these are some of their favorite brownies and describe them as having a "melt in your mouth” taste. For locals, this is often a go-to place when they're having a brownie craving. However, there was nothing from customers who subscribed to Luv's Brownies Club for us to gauge how reliable their deliveries are or how fresh the brownies arrive.

Last resort subscription

Luv's Brownies seems like a yummy, fun place to try if you happen to be near their dessert truck in Santa Clara, California or can receive a delivery in the San Jose area. Otherwise, this isn't a subscription we'd be interested in long-term since it doesn't appear that they have any variety in their flavors and customers aren't receiving a lot of brownies. Unfortunately, this is our last resort for brownie clubs, so we recommend signing up for a subscription through another company.
