Magnolia Bakery has been around for over 25 years, offering handcrafted treats using small-batch recipes. This bakery offers a range of treats including cookies, cakes, and brownies, of course. Originally based in NYC in the West Village, Magnolia Bakery is best known for its red velvet cupcakes. Today, you can either visit the Magnolia Bakery location in person or have your brownies shipped to your door. However, if you're hoping for a huge selection of brownies, you might be disappointed by the menu at Magnolia Bakery.
Shop by item or by delivery date
Exploring Magnolia Bakery's website is a breeze. By clicking the "Order Now” button, you can choose to shop by delivery date or by category. To find brownies, you'll want to jump down to the "Brownies & Bars” button which is second in the list. From there, you'll be taken to a scrolling list where Magnolia Bakery's flavors and assortments are listed in a scrolling window. Browsing the listings will show you a small photo of the brownie flavors, a short description of the flavors included, and the price. When you jump into the listings themselves, you'll see a full ingredients list, allergen warnings, and how many brownies come in each package (usually 2).
Extremely limited inventory
Regrettably, the inventory at Magnolia Bakery isn't particularly exciting. There are only three items on the "Brownies & Bars” page that are actually brownies (and one of those is technically a blondie). You'll find two total flavors at Magnolia Bakery: Double Fudge and Chocolate Chunk Blondie. Beyond that, you'll find a few lemon bars, peppermint bark, or toffee bark, but no other brownies. However, there's one massive snag: you cannot buy the individual brownie two-packs if you are shipping nationally. You can only buy the Brownie & Blondie Combo with 8 total bars.
Priced at $31 per package
While the brownie/blondie flavors (Double Fudge or Chocolate Chunk), are priced at $7.90 for two total treats, you aren't able to buy these unless you're local. Instead, your only option is to buy the Brownie & Blondie Combo for $31. This includes 8 total items with four of each flavor.
Shipping can double the cost of brownies
To help you avoid sticker shock, we checked out the shipping costs, and they're pretty steep. For our area, Magnolia Bakery only offered one delivery frequency, and we were quoted shipping and handling fees of $35. This means your reasonably-priced brownies (at $31 for the treats themselves) will come out to a total of over $60 for just eight brownies. Ouch.
No refund policy
At this time, Magnolia Bakery doesn't offer a helpful refund policy. While the bakery suggests you reach out via email for any concerns you have about orders, according to the FAQ, all issues will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The FAQ also states that all brownies shipped nationwide are considered final sale, and you won't receive any refund. The FAQ does not say if Magnolia Bakery will offer a reship or another kind of recourse, but you can be sure you won't get your money back.
Customers agree service is "rude”
According to our research, Magnolia Bakery has received a "C-” rating from the Better Business Bureau, reflecting what we've seen on the website for its dismal customer service policies. Online feedback is sparse with only a handful of reviews across Trustpilot and the BBB. Most customers left complaints about shipping issues. There are some solid reviews on Tripadvisor for this company, but a large number of recent reviews complain about the rudeness of the owners and staff. While we couldn't find any reviews specifically about the brownies, reviews are mixed on the quality and flavor of the other treats available at Magnolia Bakery.
Needs a serious overhaul to be competitive
Regrettably, there's really nothing to recommend Magnolia Bakery. There is only one brownie pack to buy with just one actual brownie flavor in the shipment. The cost of shipping is exorbitant, and the customer service is not good. For these reasons, Magnolia Bakery falls to the bottom of our list. If you're interested in their other treats, you might want to take a look for grins, but for brownies, you're better off checking out one of our top-rated delivery services instead.
There's nothing quite like the decadent chocolaty scent of fresh brownies, except maybe that soft and gooey first bite. And there's never a bad time for brownies. Whether you're celebrating a fun occasion, looking for a way to spice up date night dessert, or just craving a tasty pick-me-up, brownies are a classic treat that never goes out of style.
Brownies combine all the best parts of a dessert: the comforting baked feel of a cake mixed with a dense, melty chocolate texture that comes in various flavors. But if you're looking for brownies that stand out from the crowd (no basic boxed mixes here), you might feel limited by what you can find at local bakeries. But don't worry. Now you can have tasty gourmet brownies shipped straight to your door.
The history of brownies can be traced to the year 1893 when baker Bertha Palmer asked for a new dessert for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. A US-based treat, brownies are known for their glossy upper crust and either having a "fudgy” or "cakey” texture. Popular brownie recipes include chocolate chips, peanuts, caramel, and more. The first known printed use of the word "brownie” for a recipe was in a cookbook by Fannie Farmer in 1896. Today, studies show that Americans eat around 1.45 billion brownies per year (and we're definitely part of that number. Yum!.
Sending brownies through the mail might seem challenging - after all, they're delicate and can sometimes crumble. However, modern bakeries that specialize in shipping out their treats work to make sure you get fast delivery with little to no damage. You should have no trouble getting picture-perfect brownies from the right bakery, and you won't need to stress about receiving dried-out or damaged brownies when you order from the best.
Whether you want a classic chocolate fudge brownie or something more adventurous like salted caramel or peanut butter swirl, or even a brownie loaded with toppings like Oreos or pretzels, there is a bakery out there for you. Some bakeries even offer seasonal brownies with flavors like peppermint. No matter what, you'll get a perfect bite of chocolatey goodness that's just right for your sweet tooth.
