In 1999, two moms came together with the desire to create safe and comfortable furniture for their kids' bedrooms. They had trouble finding a store that sold stylish and fun furniture that could adapt to their children's needs. Together they founded Pottery Barn Kids with a big selection of furniture, bedding, and decor. Pottery Barn Kids is committed to providing as many GREENGUARD Gold Certified pieces of furniture as possible and a variety of organic GOTS- and BCI-certified textiles and bedding.
Beautiful selection
Pottery Barn usually takes the cake for being the fanciest, most timelessly trendy, beautiful place to shop for kids furniture and decor, and this holds true for their bunk bed selection. There are only 44 styles here with a mix of loft and bunk beds (34 bunk beds specifically), but they have unique features and details to make them stand out among other beds we've seen. Some look like castles, some like treehouses, and one like a playhouse. Others appear to be made of thick sturdy wood in a variety of colors with pretty scalloped edges, desks, underbed storage, and shelving.
Few bunk bed options
You'll only find variations of twin and full bunk beds at Pottery Barn Kids. There are no options for triple or quadruple bunk beds here. There are fewer bunk beds than you can find through other stores but you can still sort them by gender, color, size, product type, responsibly sourced, age, style, wood finish, availability, price, and more. Since Pottery Barn makes such beautiful products, it would have been fun to see a bigger selection of bunk beds, but if you just need two beds and want good storage space and design, you've come to the right place.
Steep prices
Along with stylish, fancy furniture come higher than average prices. It kind of comes with the brand since Pottery Barn Kids often sells products somewhat similar to what you could find elsewhere, but at nearly double the price. A simple twin-over-twin bunk bed without any underbed storage, shelving, or additional features sells for $999 in either navy or white. If you want this same bed in a seadrift wood finish, the price goes up to $1,299. This is your cheapest bunk bed option at Pottery Barn Kids. Most of their bunk beds are close to the $2,000 range with the most expensive one being $4,095 for a twin-over-full bunk bed with a seadrift finish.
Expensive shipping
"Quick ship” delivery to your home on bunk beds from Pottery Barn Kids takes 1-3 weeks with a shipping fee that's calculated at checkout. If you live near one of their stores, they could also ship it there and you could pick it up yourself for a reduced shipping price. For us, to have the bunk bed shipping to our home was going to cost an additional $279. This is way more expensive than we expected, especially since we were offered free shipping by so many other stores. Yikes!
30-day returns
So once you've purchased an expensive Pottery Barn Kids bunk bed and paid an arm and a leg to receive it, is there any hope for a return if necessary? Luckily, yes. You can return eligible purchases within 30 days of delivery by filling out their return form online. They don't mention restocking fees, but since you had to pay a lot for shipping the first time, no doubt you'll need to pay at least that much to send the bunk bed back. This is expensive and a huge pain, so hopefully you love what you buy and will be able to keep it. They also don't mention warranty details about their beds in the event that it has a defect after use.
Nightmare ratings
We would think a brand like Pottery Barn Kids would have earned a strong reputation over the years since they're well-known and have some of the cutest furniture. Plus, they feel like they can charge a lot, so people must be flocking here, right? We're not so sure. They have an "F” rating from the Better Business Bureau with over 3,600 complaints closed just over the last 3 years. Third-party reviews tear the company apart for its poor customer service, issues with refunds, charges happening without receiving products, and more nightmare stories.
Not worth it
We always want to love Pottery Barn because they present themselves so well. However, in the case of bunk beds, they have a small selection and their prices and shipping costs are enough to make us take a step back. This along with their poor ratings is a good enough reason to just find a bunk bed somewhere else and not waste your time (or money). Pottery Barn Kids has earned a low rating from us.
If you have a couple of kids and are looking to consolidate space, bunk beds are a fantastic way to go. They take up less floor space while still allowing kids to have their own separate beds. Plus, what kid doesn't want to sleep in a bunk bed instead of a regular bed anyway?
Bunk beds are one of the most exciting setups for a kid's bedroom. They're totally fun and unique, so it's a win-win for parents and children. You're totally on the right track. However, shopping for a bunk bed can be a frustrating experience. The selection in traditional stores is very limited. That's one reason why buying bunk beds online has become so popular.
Bunk beds are usually thought of as stacked twin beds, one atop the other. However, there are so many different configurations to accommodate different ages, room sizes, or even the number of sleepers. For older kids, you may consider getting bunk beds with either one or two queen size beds instead of twins.
This way the bed grows with your child by providing extra space and comfort. You could mix and match bed sizes depending on the bed frame, or even get a triple bunk bed for three kids. This is a great option for triplets or just siblings close in age who are excited about sharing a room together.
Regardless of your style and taste, you can find bunk beds that will be a lovely addition to a bedroom. Some are simple and take up a minimal amount of space while providing the basic comforts of a bed for your child. Others come in fun paint colors, have attached desks or bookshelves, or even a slide going down from the top.
Some bunk beds have ladders while others have stairs. You might get bunk beds that also have a trundle in case you have a guest sleeping over and need the extra space. There are a lot of cool features you'll find, so start thinking through all the aspects of bunk beds that will best serve your family.
