Jarva Cakes Review 3 Star Rating

Jarva Cakes

3 Star Rating
  • 4 single-serving flavors of lava cake in every delivery
  • Must add water and microwave to serve
  • Shelf-stable
  • $69.95 + $18 shipping for a 3-month subscription

What is a Jarva Cake? Think "single serving lava cakes” and you'll have the idea. This mom-and-pop business is based in Maine and can be found at plenty of farmers' markets and craft fairs, but you can get all the goodness delivered right to your doorstep.

Four surprise flavors every month

You can always place a one-off order for all the Jarva Cakes you'd like, but if you'd prefer to have them show up like clockwork, the Lava Cake club might get your attention. Each month, you'll get four surprise flavors, all shelf-stable and ready for you to microwave after adding water. These are all single-serving containers, so don't expect a big ready-made cake that you can share at your next church potluck. Lava Cake club members are also the first to get any newly-released seasonal flavors.

A little spendy for four servings of cake

What will this cake club cost? It's a little on the expensive side, especially given that you only receive four servings of cake in each shipment: $69.95 for a three-month subscription, plus a one-time shipping fee of $18.

Website could use a refresh

The Jarva Cakes website could use a little updating: the site copyright was over 10 years old at the time of this review, and it's not the most intuitive online store we've ever seen. For example, the description of the Lava Cake Club says that it's available in 3- or 6-month subscriptions, but the "Shop” button takes you to a page that only shows the shorter membership term, plus a la carte purchase options.

Limited but very positive reviews

There's not a ton of buzz for this small business, though we were pleased to see a couple dozen reviews on Jarva Cakes' Facebook page. People praise the quality of these microwave cakes and mention flavors like Spice Cake, Caramel, Dark Chocolate, Raspberry, and Mint.

Not for everyone but worth trying

At the end of the day, Jarva Cakes' Lava Cake Club will be a perfect fit for some customers: think hungry college kids who don't have a lot of freezer space, diet-conscious people who don't want the temptation of a huge dessert sitting on the counter, you get the idea. And there's no question that these cakes-in-a-cup taste far better than anything similar you might find on the shelf at your local supermarket. But, this cake club isn't really robust enough to give our top choices any kind of competition. And that's okay: Jarva Cakes can keep being a cute little business that does one thing really well.

Which Cake Club is the Best?

Cake clubs offer an enticing opportunity for people to indulge in their favorite treat every month. Whether you want to treat yourself or give a cake club membership as a gift, you can depend on something delicious to arrive at your doorstep every month. While some people may be hesitant to receive cake deliveries, many cake club companies have addressed these concerns by ensuring quality control during the logistics of shipping and by offering a variety of flavors and experiences.

Compared to mass-produced cake boxes and supermarket bakery aisles, cake clubs provide a wider range of quality and selection. Many cake clubs even operate with particular values and ethics that appeal not only to customers' taste buds but also to their character. With cakes delivered from all over the country, you could taste a whole new world of flavors.

Cake Club FAQ

Not from a supermarket chain assembly line, that's for sure! Cake clubs go out of their way to bring you the most mouth-watering goodies, often from small bakeries around the nation.
The real question is, how often would you like to get a fresh cake on your doorstep? Select among monthly, bi-monthly and quarterly cake clubs, with plans lasting anywhere from three months to a year.
You'll pay anywhere from $20 to $70 per delivery, depending on the cake club provider you choose. Considering what you'd spend at a local grocery store to get a cake, or how much it costs to buy a cake from a specialty bakery, those prices are right on the money.
Sometimes. You'll want to read the terms of each cake club membership to see if delivery fees are part of your monthly price: over the course of a year-long plan, paying $5 to $10 for each shipment will really add up. Fortunately, some cake clubs include your shipping fees in their monthly pricing.
Almost always. No reputable business wants to get negative customer feedback for making deliveries that don't arrive in good condition or that taste bad. You should be able to get a refund or replacement if anything isn't quite right with your cake.
Of course! While there are always new cake clubs popping up, some subscription plans have been around for ten years or more. It's helpful to check out customer reviews of both new and established businesses, to ensure that the cake club you select will be a winner.
You'll likely get a newsletter with your cake club shipment each month. They usually have fun articles about cake, details about where your cake was made, and maybe even recommended pairings with fruit or beverages. A few providers of cake club memberships let you add on items like stuffed animals or flowers for an extra fee.
Yes! Wouldn't you love it if someone surprised YOU with a cake subscription? Cake clubs are a wonderfully unique gift-giving option, and you can usually include a personalized message with your delivery. You may even be able to have a gift announcement sent to your lucky recipient via email on
