On the Jarva Cakes website

Jarva Cakes is a charming mother/daughter-owned business from Maine that first won hearts at farmers' markets and craft fairs - and now you can have their delicious single-serving lava cakes delivered straight to your door. And, if you love the idea of a gooey, indulgent dessert without the hassle of baking, the Lava Cake Club might be exactly what you're looking for.

Single-serving cakes that you heat in the microwave

With the Lava Cake Club, you'll receive four surprise flavors every month, all designed to be quick and easy to prepare. Flavors might include sea salt caramel, chocolate peanut butter cup, dark velvet chocolate, and so on. These shelf-stable cakes come in single-serving cups - just add water and pop them in the microwave for a warm, gooey treat in minutes. While you won't be getting a full-sized cake to share, these four personal portions are perfect for a cozy night in or a quick dessert fix. Plus, club members get the bonus of being the first to try any newly-released seasonal flavors.

Pretty spendy per serving

However, you're going to pay more per serving with the Lava Cake Club than with most of Jarva Cakes' rivals on our list. At $76.50 for 3 months, $150 for 6 months, or $288 for 12 months, you're looking at a per-serving price of at least $6. Then, tack on a one-time shipping fee of $18 (regardless of the club length) and that per-portion cost goes up a bit more. Consider placing a one-time Ă  la carte order, then deciding if the portions and flavors are what you had in mind for a cake club subscription.

Website needs some touch-ups

While Jarva Cakes' products are delightful, the ordering experience could be smoother. The website feels a bit outdated (with a copyright that's 12+ years old), and it's clunky to have to click into the store and look for the Lava Cake Club. Once you get there, the information is a bit hard to follow, and even the free shipping code (cakeclub2016) had us wondering if the subscription details were up-to-date. Plus, in contrast to one part of the site that explains that you get 4 different flavors in each box, the more detailed listing says you'll receive one each of Dark Velvet Chocolate and Sea Salt Caramel each month, plus two mystery flavors. These are small sticking points, but ones worth noting if you're expecting a more polished shopping experience.

Reputation is solid

Despite the website hiccups, customers rave about Jarva Cakes overall. Reviews on social media mention delicious flavors, fantastic customer service, and just-right portions. Fortunately, Jarva Cakes' socials are just active enough for us to trust that the 2010s copyright date isn't any indicator that this business is equally behind the times.

Good enough

Jarva Cakes' Lava Cake Club isn't trying to compete with larger cake clubs - and that's part of its charm. The single-serving size also makes this club a good fit for anyone who likes a bit of help with portion control or who doesn't have a houseful of people who can sit down together and eat a cake in one dessert sitting. But, it's a little spendy compared with some of the cake clubs in our review, the website could use a glow-up, and there isn't much recent customer feedback to let us know if the subscription itself is as successful as the farmer's market-fresh cakes-in-a-cup. We still give Jarva Cakes a "good enough" rating: not the best or the worst, but a cake club we'd mostly think about trying if we were looking for a small indulgence that doesn't take up much space or time.

Which Cake Club is the Best?

Whether it's a rich chocolate layer cake, a classic coffee cake, or a fruity Bundt, there's something about cake that makes any day feel like a celebration. After all, who doesn't love cake? But what if you could have delicious, freshly made cake delivered to you every month? That's exactly what cake clubs offer - and it's no wonder they've become a popular way to treat yourself or surprise someone special with a gift that keeps on giving.

Cake clubs work just like any other subscription service. You sign up for a set number of months - typically three, six, or twelve - and each month, a cake arrives at your doorstep. The fun part is the variety: some clubs send a rotating mix of cake types, while others stick to a theme like coffee cakes or pound cakes. Either way, it's a sweet way to discover new flavors and try cakes you might not have picked out for yourself.

One of the biggest draws of some cake clubs is the element of surprise, which makes opening the box each month feel like a little celebration. You might be given a preview of the next flavor, while others keep it a total mystery until the package arrives. And because cake is easy to store or share, it's the kind of treat that's perfect for an impromptu dessert or a cozy weekend snack.

Of course, not all cake clubs are created equal. Some focus on high-end, gourmet cakes with fancy flavors and elegant packaging. Others keep it simple with classic tastes like chocolate and vanilla. You'll also find clubs that specialize in certain types of cake - coffee cake, lava cake, even single-serve cakes-in-a-jar - while others send a wider mix. Many offer seasonal flavors, which means you could get a pumpkin spice cake in October or a lemon cake in spring.

Cake clubs are also a thoughtful gift idea. They work well for birthdays, anniversaries, or even as a thank-you gesture. It's the kind of present that stretches out the joy for months instead of just one day. Plus, there's something comforting about knowing a slice of cake is waiting for you at the end of a long week.

Ready to embark on a yummy journey? We've got you covered. But which one of the many delicious options should you pick? When choosing a cake club, there are a few things to keep in mind:

The dessert-loving experts at Top Consumer Reviews have researched and ranked some of today's most popular cake clubs, to help you pick from the best of the best. Whether you're treating yourself or someone else, a cake club is a fun way to indulge in life's little pleasures. It's hard to go wrong with cake - and having it delivered to your door just makes it that much sweeter.

Cake Club FAQ

Where do the cakes come from?
Not from a supermarket chain assembly line, that's for sure! Cake clubs go out of their way to bring you the most mouth-watering goodies, often from small bakeries around the nation.
How often will the cakes be delivered?
The real question is, how often would you like to get a fresh cake on your doorstep? Select among monthly, bi-monthly and quarterly cake clubs, with plans lasting anywhere from three months to a year.
Are cake clubs expensive?
You'll pay anywhere from $20 to $70 per delivery, depending on the cake club provider you choose. Considering what you'd spend at a local grocery store to get a cake, or how much it costs to buy a cake from a specialty bakery, those prices are right on the money.
Do I have to pay extra for shipping?
Sometimes. You'll want to read the terms of each cake club membership to see if delivery fees are part of your monthly price: over the course of a year-long plan, paying $5 to $10 for each shipment will really add up. Fortunately, some cake clubs include your shipping fees in their monthly pricing.
Is there a satisfaction guarantee?
Almost always. No reputable business wants to get negative customer feedback for making deliveries that don't arrive in good condition or that taste bad. You should be able to get a refund or replacement if anything isn't quite right with your cake.
Are cake clubs legitimate?
Of course! While there are always new cake clubs popping up, some subscription plans have been around for ten years or more. It's helpful to check out customer reviews of both new and established businesses, to ensure that the cake club you select will be a winner.
Do you get anything extra with the deliveries?
You'll likely get a newsletter with your cake club shipment each month. They usually have fun articles about cake, details about where your cake was made, and maybe even recommended pairings with fruit or beverages. A few providers of cake club memberships let you add on items like stuffed animals or flowers for an extra fee.
Do cake clubs make good gifts?
Yes! Wouldn't you love it if someone surprised YOU with a cake subscription? Cake clubs are a wonderfully unique gift-giving option, and you can usually include a personalized message with your delivery. You may even be able to have a gift announcement sent to your lucky recipient via email on
