Pemberton Farms Review 3 Star Rating

Pemberton Farms

3 Star Rating
  • Variety of coffee cakes included
  • Priced from $124.95 for a 3-month subscription up to $469.95 for a 12-month subscription
  • Shipping is included at no extra cost
  • Memberships can last 3, 6, 9, or 12 months

In 1930, the Pemberton Farms Marketplace originated as a family-owned retail store for fruits and vegetables in Massachusetts. As of today, the business has transformed into a specialty grocery store, garden center, and provider of high-quality gifts. One such gift is Pemberton Farms' Coffee Cake of the Month Club.

Just coffee cake

What will you get with this cake club? Pemberton Farms is noticeably light on details. Here's what you can know for sure: all of the cakes you'll get with this membership are, as you'd guess from the name, coffee cakes. That means no pound cake, no birthday-type cake, just coffee cakes typically in a Bundt style.

Several cake club lengths to choose from

Memberships here can last for 3, 6, 9, or 12 months. When you set up your membership, you'll choose which month you'd like the deliveries to start. The Coffee Cake of the Month Club will cost you $124.95 for a 3-month plan, $239.95 for a 6-month plan, $349.95 for a 9-month plan, and $469.95 for a full year. Shipping is included in those prices, though deliveries can only be made within the continental US.

More information, please?

...and that's about all you'll know in advance. Which flavors can you expect? How many servings are in each coffee cake? Is it a set schedule (Pumpkin Coffee Cake every November, Peach Coffee Cake every June) or random? Are they seasonal? These are all terrific questions that many cake clubs are happy to answer, but Pemberton Farms seems to prefer a little mystery in theirs.

Online ordering was broken

The mystery deepened when we went to add the cake club to our online cart: it just wouldn't work. We reached out to Pemberton Farms' customer service and were pleased to get a prompt response. Unfortunately there was no way to actually start a cake membership online at the time of this review, but the customer support rep was more than happy to take our order over the phone.

Best Cake Clubs

Typically coffee cakes

He also explained that typically they just choose coffee cakes from among the flavors listed in the general store (Lemon Burst, Applicious Walnut, Blueberry Blizzard, Triple Chocolate, Cinnamon Walnut, and Caramel Apple Harvest) with no repeats, but we're not sure how that's possible with a 12-month membership and only six flavors in the lineup. But, if you decide to go with Pemberton Farms and the online order process still isn't working, you can reach out via phone and they'll actually let you specify which flavor you'd like to start with.

Good reputation

The majority of reviews for Pemberton Farms are centered around their physical grocery store rather than their shippable products, such as their Coffee Cake Club. Customers generally give high praise to this retailer, whether shopping in-store or receiving deliveries. They often say that they appreciate the family-owned atmosphere that pervades everything sold there.

We wish there were more customer reviews

We would like to see more reviews specifically focused on the cake club. There was just one on the club's page on the Pemberton Farms website (dated all the way back in 2016) - but we're not overly concerned about the quality of the cakes you'll get here or the customer service aspect of the membership. The company enjoys an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau and is very active on social media. You should have no trouble reaching a representative if you have questions about the club or have issues with any deliveries.

Good cake but difficult-to-use website

While Pemberton Farms has a lot of room for improvement in their online shopping experience, we give them points for having responsive customer service and for a solid reputation as a small business. You're probably going to have to jump through a few extra hoops to set up your cake club here, so we suggest looking at some of our higher-ranked options and circle back to Pemberton Farms if you don't find what you need there.

Which Cake Club is the Best?

Cake clubs offer an enticing opportunity for people to indulge in their favorite treat every month. Whether you want to treat yourself or give a cake club membership as a gift, you can depend on something delicious to arrive at your doorstep every month. While some people may be hesitant to receive cake deliveries, many cake club companies have addressed these concerns by ensuring quality control during the logistics of shipping and by offering a variety of flavors and experiences.

Compared to mass-produced cake boxes and supermarket bakery aisles, cake clubs provide a wider range of quality and selection. Many cake clubs even operate with particular values and ethics that appeal not only to customers' taste buds but also to their character. With cakes delivered from all over the country, you could taste a whole new world of flavors.

Cake Club FAQ

Not from a supermarket chain assembly line, that's for sure! Cake clubs go out of their way to bring you the most mouth-watering goodies, often from small bakeries around the nation.
The real question is, how often would you like to get a fresh cake on your doorstep? Select among monthly, bi-monthly and quarterly cake clubs, with plans lasting anywhere from three months to a year.
You'll pay anywhere from $20 to $70 per delivery, depending on the cake club provider you choose. Considering what you'd spend at a local grocery store to get a cake, or how much it costs to buy a cake from a specialty bakery, those prices are right on the money.
Sometimes. You'll want to read the terms of each cake club membership to see if delivery fees are part of your monthly price: over the course of a year-long plan, paying $5 to $10 for each shipment will really add up. Fortunately, some cake clubs include your shipping fees in their monthly pricing.
Almost always. No reputable business wants to get negative customer feedback for making deliveries that don't arrive in good condition or that taste bad. You should be able to get a refund or replacement if anything isn't quite right with your cake.
Of course! While there are always new cake clubs popping up, some subscription plans have been around for ten years or more. It's helpful to check out customer reviews of both new and established businesses, to ensure that the cake club you select will be a winner.
You'll likely get a newsletter with your cake club shipment each month. They usually have fun articles about cake, details about where your cake was made, and maybe even recommended pairings with fruit or beverages. A few providers of cake club memberships let you add on items like stuffed animals or flowers for an extra fee.
Yes! Wouldn't you love it if someone surprised YOU with a cake subscription? Cake clubs are a wonderfully unique gift-giving option, and you can usually include a personalized message with your delivery. You may even be able to have a gift announcement sent to your lucky recipient via email on
