Top Consumer Reviews Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award

Old Time Candy Company is on a mission to bring back childhood candy memories, offering a nostalgic journey through time with treats from the 50s to the 90s. Owners Karen and Donny Ray have been curating delightful assortments for over 20 years, drawing from 100+ different manufacturers of "candy you ate as a kid."

Take a walk down one decade's memory lane

There are four candy club options here, and all of them get rave reviews from Old Time Candy's customers. First, the Decade Candy Gift Box offers a specific trip down memory lane by allowing you to choose candies from a specific decade from the 50s to the 90s. Priced at $26.59 and $37.99 for 2- and 4-lb. assortments, respectively, this club is ideal for commemorating milestone birthdays or anniversaries. You can even add a "Remember When” booklet for just $6.99, featuring the specific year you'd like to highlight. This box comes with up to 65 pieces of candy (in the 4-lb size), including at least 20 full-size treats.

Get treats from all the years

Next, the Retro Candy Gift Box, priced at $19.99, features a fun assortment of 65+ treats spanning the last 70 years, including favorites like Mallo Cups and Root Beer Barrels.

Best Candy Clubs

Sweets in a refillable jar

Third on the list, the Retro Candy Assortment provides 175 pieces of candy for $27.54, packaged in a reusable plastic tub. If you just want the refill on subsequent deliveries, it'll only cost $21.84 (and you can just put it right in the plastic tub you got the first time). Some of the candies in this assortment include Cow Tales Minis, Caramel Creams, Now & Laters, and many more.

Every month is a surprise

And fourth, a new addition since our last evaluation of Old Time Candy is the generically-named Candy Box Subscription. For $24.69 per box, every month is a surprise. Only described as "different decades to crazy flavors”, each box has a new theme with everyone's favorite childhood candies. To be frank, this sounds like a catch-all for us (along the lines of "here's what we bought too much of, so in the box it goes”), but that doesn't mean it's not worth trying. And, if you like surprises, it might be the perfect option here.

Shipping and insurance are extra

Bear in mind that shipping fees aren't included with those prices. You'll pay $9.99 per box, plus an extra $0.98 for "shipping insurance”. Don't skip that under-$1 add-on, because it's what protects you if your package gets lost or your candies are a little melted upon unboxing.

Best Candy Clubs

Makes gift-giving a treat

Gift-giving with Old Time Candy is a breeze, with the option to include a hand-written gift card during checkout (and even some suggested messages if you're not sure what to say). And, whether you're buying for yourself or someone else, there's plenty of flexibility in the deliveries too: you can have your candy come every month, every other month, or just a few times a year. Finally, you can select a delayed delivery date for your order, usually about three months into the future (you could place your order in September for a gift that arrives in December).

Reputation is on point

The company's reputation speaks volumes, with an "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. Across almost 500 customer reviews beyond the BBB, Old Time Candy has an impressive average of 4.8 stars. Customers praise the store for excellent customer service and delicious candies, especially for those who want a taste that brings them back to their childhood. The Decade Candy Gift Box is the show-stopper here, with almost 200 5-star reviews. Time and again (no pun intended), people say that this box delivers a sweet way to relive old memories and make new ones.

Still our #1 choice among candy clubs

Old Time Candy is our top choice among candy club subscriptions. With affordable memberships, flexible options, and an array of classic favorites, Old Time Candy is sure to satisfy candy lovers of all ages, making it a delightful pick for your candy club membership.

Candy Favorites Review 4.5 Star Rating

Candy Favorites

4.5 Star Rating
  • Candy Club Selection: Choose from Retro, Gummi, or Fruit
  • Cost: Starting at $74.95 for 3 months
  • Duration: 3, 6, or 12 months
  • Frequency: Monthly
  • Shipping: Free on subscription deliveries

As part of McKeesport Candy Company, Candy Favorites is one of the oldest sweet shops in the business with almost 100 years of history (and the honor of being one of the very first online stores... ever). As you might get from the name, Candy Favorites believes that "the future of candy is rooted in the past”, offering a selection of today's latest hits and sweet treats that were at the top of everyone's lists across the decades.

3 great candy club selections

And that's exactly what you'll see in the three candy clubs offered here:

  • Retro Candy of the Month: candy from the 1890s to the 1990s (don't worry, they've been made fresh since then: no expired candy here). This could include timeless favorites like Atomic Fireballs, Mary Janes, and Bit O Honey.
  • Gummi Candy of the Month: from worms to bears and even Sour Patch Kids, this option gives you all things chewy.
  • Fruit Candy of the Month: called the "Fruit Salad” option, everything in this club is fruit-flavored, from lemon drops to watermelon Airheads. This club was out of stock at the time of our review.

Jar comes with the first month's candies

All of the clubs come with a half-gallon wide-mouth plastic jar on the first delivery; you'll refill it with subsequent months of deliveries.

Best Candy Clubs

Affordably-priced and ships for free

What do these Candy Favorites clubs cost? You'll pay $74.95 for a three-month plan, $161.06 for six months, and $279.22 for a full year. Shipping is included in the price of your club: a nice perk over the $10.95 shipping fees you'd pay when ordering a la carte.

Gift-giving available but can be unnecessarily spendy

Yes, you can send any of the three clubs as a gift. Just be aware that it'll cost an extra $1 to include a gift note (which seems a little cheap, if we're being honest and comparing with other candy clubs) and $4 if you want your candies to arrive gift-wrapped.

Could be a bit more customer-centric

Candy Favorites doesn't have the most robust satisfaction policy we've ever seen. You'll have to report any damage or other issues with your delivery within 24 hours of receipt, so you'll want to make sure that you're home when your candy club packages are set to arrive. You may be offered a refund or a replacement, but it won't apply to damage resulting from weather issues. We're also a little puzzled by the fact that Candy Favorites doesn't take responsibility for orders that get lost in transit, essentially making it your responsibility to get some kind of resolution directly from the shipping carrier.

Best Candy Clubs

Phenomenal reputation with 1000+ five-star reviews

Is that anything to worry about? Probably not. Although the candy clubs themselves don't have many reviews, the company as a whole is very popular. The Better Business Bureau gives Candy Favorites a perfect "A+” rating, with only one complaint registered there in the last three years. And, across over 1200 ratings collected from customers around the internet, 90% give the company 4 or 5 stars. Compliments frequently mention fast shipping, great selection, and the fun of having nostalgic treats from childhood. The only area where we saw some complaints was in the substitution policy: Candy Favorites reserves the right to swap out one candy for another with no input from the customer (and no refunds/switches if you get something you weren't expecting and don't like).

You'll see why it's a favorite

Particularly if you want that retro feel to your monthly box of treats, Candy Favorites is a wonderful option among candy clubs. They're competitively priced, well received by the majority of customers, and easy to give as a gift. We'd love to see them being a bit more customer-friendly in some of their policies (like taking accountability for packages that go astray), but on the whole this is a fantastic choice for a candy subscription.

Japan Candy Box Review 4 Star Rating

Japan Candy Box

4 Star Rating
  • Candy Club Selection: 10 Japanese treats every month
  • Cost: From $24.90 to $29.90 per month, depending on subscription length
  • Duration: 1, 6, or 12 months
  • Frequency: Monthly
  • Shipping: Free delivery worldwide

Bringing the sweet-and-savory delights of Tokyo straight to your doorstep, Japan Candy Box promises an exciting journey into the world of Japanese treats. Bursting with seasonal snacks, limited-edition Japanese candies, and unique flavors not found elsewhere, this candy club is a true source of joy. Whether you're already a fervent enthusiast of all things Japan, from ramen to unconventional KitKat varieties, or simply curious about candies and snacks not found on your local supermarket shelves, this membership is a delightful adventure.

10 unique sweets and savories in each themed box

Japan Candy Box sends a fun, unique experience each month with 10 treats per box. Want a preview of what you might get? One previous month's theme was Tokyo Arcade; snacks and sweets included Soaring Sky PreCure Fruit Mix Gummies, Caramel Pudding Chocolate KitKats, Super Mario 3D World Choco-Coated Snacks, Pokemon Sapporo Ichiban Seafood Noodle Bowl, GIGANT Poteco Triple Consommé Potato Rings, Splatoon 2 Cola & Soda Paste Candy, Kirby Mix'n'Match Gum, One Piece Rock Paper Scissors Devil Fruit Gummy, and Pokemon Xylitol Soda Gum.

Shipping is free no matter how long you subscribe

Your only decision here is your preferred club duration. Opting for the month-to-month plan costs $29.90 per delivery, while committing to a 6-month club reduces the per-delivery price to $27.90. A 12-month prepaid subscription brings the cost down to $24.90 per package. The icing on the cake: Japan Candy Box covers the shipping costs anywhere in the world, a perk that sets it apart from other international (and domestic) candy clubs.

No refunds on prepaid subscriptions

While the prepaid plans offer cost savings, it's crucial to note that there are no refunds once your initial Japan Candy Box ships. If a 6-month subscription is paid for in advance and the candy club isn't a hit, you'll receive all deliveries until the membership ends. If that makes you nervous, you might prefer the month-to-month club (despite the slightly higher per-delivery cost), before diving into a non-refundable longer-term subscription.

Best Candy Clubs

Gifting features are limited

Japan Candy Box makes for an excellent present with its charming packaging and informative pamphlets detailing the origins of each treat. However, the checkout process lacks a feature for including a note or personalized gift announcement. Your only workaround is entering a separate shipping address from your billing details. Another not-so-gifting-friendly detail is that the first box typically ships shortly after you place your order, and then subsequent boxes ship out at the end of the month. You might have to spill the beans a little if you're sending a Japan Candy Box subscription as a holiday or birthday gift.

It's a hit around the globe

With hundreds of reviews both on the site and elsewhere, the vast majority of customers awarded Japan Candy Box a rating of 4 stars or higher, with many giving it a perfect 5. While the box may contain fewer items compared to rival candy clubs, the novelty and cuteness factor receive high praise, making each shipment a much-anticipated experience. We're especially impressed that this reputation seems to follow Japan Candy Box around the globe: just take a look at the reviews on Trustpilot and see the enthusiastic recommendations from subscribers in the UK, US, Denmark, Israel, and even in places like Uzbekistan and Bosnia.

Tops among international candy clubs

Japan Candy Box lands in our top spot among international candy club options. Offering free worldwide shipping coupled with an affordably-priced assortment, this membership is a must for Japanese culture enthusiasts or anyone eager to explore new treats from that part of the world. Treat yourself to the delightful world of Japan Candy Box and indulge in the sweetness of Tokyo's sweet and savory flavors.

Treatsbox Review 3.5 Star Rating

Treatsbox

3.5 Star Rating
  • Candy Club Selection: An assortment of lollipops, hard candies, gum, salty snacks and chocolate, with options for Regular (8-10 treats), Epic (18-22 treats) or Colossal (30-34 treats) sizes
  • Cost: From $24.99 to $59.99 (CAD, not USD)
  • Duration: Auto-renews every month until you cancel
  • Frequency: Monthly
  • Shipping: Around $16 CAD per delivery

If you're looking for a candy club that offers a mix of familiar and unique treats, Treatsbox might catch your sweet tooth's attention. This Canadian candy club supplier has been serving candy enthusiasts for several years, boasting a loyal customer following evident in their active presence on social media platforms.

Plenty of variety

What makes Treatsbox special is the variety of items in each box, which includes not only candies but also chocolates and salty snacks. In addition to well-known treats like Altoids and Nerds, you'll have the opportunity to savor candies that might be unique to Canada. Ever tried Thrills or Jelly Bean Factory Super Sours? Treatsbox offers a delightful monthly adventure filled with novel surprises.

More affordable when you factor in currency conversion

Treatsbox offers three box options, all priced in Canadian dollars (CAD). The Regular box, which contains 8-10 items, is priced at $24.99 CAD. The Epic box, with 18-22 treats, is available for $44.99 CAD, and the Colossal box, offering 32-36 products, comes in at $59.99 CAD. That sounds spendy, but if you're ordering from the US, the currency conversion will probably be in your favor and make the monthly cost lower.

Expect relatively high shipping fees

On the other hand, because Treatsbox ships from Canada, customers in the US can expect some fairly hefty shipping fees. For example, on the Colossal box, our delivery cost was $16.79 CAD per shipment for a total monthly fee of $76.78. Fortunately, we got a seasonal pop-up offering 15% off anything on the Treatsbox site (including subscriptions), which made the candy club more affordable.

Best Candy Clubs

Solid features if you want to give it as a gift

If you want to share the joy of Treatsbox with a loved one, you have the option to send a subscription as a gift. During the checkout process, you can add a personalized note, which will be included in the recipient's box. It's important to note that all orders are shipped on the 5th of each month, and shipping times to US addresses can take up to two weeks (or 5-7 days in Canada). Unfortunately, you can't customize the shipment date, so plan accordingly if you're sending the candy club in celebration of a special occasion.

Check out their socials

Although Treatsbox still doesn't have a Better Business Bureau listing, the company is highly engaged on social media. You can have fun exploring their recent posts, which include customer unboxing videos and positive feedback praising the wide variety of candies packed into each subscription box.

Worth a try

In conclusion, Treatsbox offers a tempting selection of candies with surprises each month, making it a great choice for those who enjoy variety and the thrill of not knowing what treats they'll receive. While the shipping fees can make it a more expensive option compared to some other candy clubs, the taste adventure Treatsbox provides might be worth the investment for candy enthusiasts seeking something unique and exciting.

MexiCrate Review 3.5 Star Rating

MexiCrate

3.5 Star Rating
  • Candy Club Selection: Mexican candy and snacks
  • Cost: From $7.99 to $32.99 per box, depending on box size and subscription length
  • Duration: 1, 3, or 6 months
  • Frequency: Monthly
  • Shipping: $7 per box

MexiCrate is a monthly club offered through Cratejoy. There's not a ton of background information offered on this particular subscription, but Cratejoy goes far enough to designate MexiCrate as a preferred seller, likely due to the 4.3-star average across nearly 350 reviews.

Sweet, spicy, and savory

Your MexiCrate box might come with both savory and sweet snacks, not limited strictly to candy. For example, you could get a small bottle of Tajin seasoning, super-spicy Takis, or even crazy flavors of Doritos in your package. But, never fear, there are sugary delights in each box too, from lollipops to chocolates and more.

Choose the size and subscription length

You have two decisions to make with MexiCrate: how much candy do you want in each box, and how long would you like the club to last? The Pequeña box is priced from $7.99 to $9.99 and comes with 10-15 pieces of candy (and, apparently, nothing savory or spicy). The Mediana size gives you 15-25 treats and snacks of various sizes; you'll pay from $17.99 to $19.99 per box. Finally, the Grande doesn't even come with a specified number of snacks, treats, or candies: it's just designated as being "enough to share with the familia”. Pricing ranges from $26.39 to $32.99 per delivery. For all clubs, your subscription length can be one month, three months, or six months (with the price per box dropping the longer you're a member).

Shipping is about $7/month

Shipping fees aren't included on your MexiCrate candy club subscription. While those fees aren't disclosed until checkout, on the largest box sent to an address in the US, we found the shipping to be about $7 per shipment.

Best Candy Clubs

Feedback is mixed but mostly positive

How about reputation, beyond the rating average we mentioned? Most people love their MexiCrate club box contents and the overall experience. However, some people mention boxes that arrive late (or not at all), or that have issues crossing borders; we couldn't tell if that was just over to Canada or if it included other destinations (like the US).

Hard to cancel

Another complaint we saw more than once was that it can be really hard to cancel your MexiCrate subscription. Some members tried to end their deliveries after the prepaid period ran out, but since the plans renew automatically and they had a difficult time reaching anyone at Cratejoy or MexiCrate, it led to more deliveries they didn't even want. And, not everyone was blown away by the selection of Mexican goodies in this candy-and-then-some club; one customer described it as "basic, widely available, and common, not really anything special.”

Might be best to start small

For all of those reasons, MexiCrate comes in at a 3.5-star rating here. Most subscribers wind up liking it, and it's not super-expensive. It would be easy to start with a small box and see what you think, and then you could switch to one of the bigger sizes if it's a hit. That's assuming, of course, that you're able to make those changes before you plan auto-renews. This isn't necessarily our absolute favorite candy club, but MexiCrate could be one you'll enjoy.

Harry & David Review 3 Star Rating

Harry & David

3 Star Rating
  • Candy Club Selection: Various options to choose from
  • Cost: Depends on the selected club; options start around $42.99 per delivery
  • Duration: 3 months
  • Frequency: Every 4 weeks
  • Shipping: $14.99 or free with Celebrations Passport membership ($19.99/year)
  • Excellent satisfaction guarantee

Harry & David is a well-established American company renowned for its gourmet gifts, including premium fruits, chocolates, and gourmet food products. The company was founded in 1910 by brothers Harry and David Holmes in Medford, Oregon, who initially started as pear and fruit growers.

Wide range of gourmet gifts

While the company is still famous for its pears, Harry & David has expanded its product offerings to include a wide range of gourmet gifts. These gifts often feature an assortment of fruits, chocolates, baked goods, wine, and other specialty foods. They are popular choices for holidays, special occasions, and corporate gifts.

Setting up a club is a little DIY

As a company with a strong gift-giving focus, Harry & David's candy club options will all be in that vein. You'll choose a candy arrangement you'd like to give as a gift (no one said you can't give it to yourself!) and then click the box by "Start a Subscription and Save 15%”. In other words, they don't really have a "club” at Harry & David, just several different candy possibilities that you can have delivered every four weeks for three months.

Best Candy Clubs

Appetizing selection and beautiful packaging

We took a look at some of those, to give you an idea of what to expect. One example is the Candy Craves Fabulous Favs Tray. Starting at a price of $84.99 (not counting the 15% subscription discount), every month you'll get the same assortment of candy favorites including wrapped caramels, chewy peach rings, salt water taffy, buttery caramel corn, lemon creme almonds, mint chocolate malt balls, chocolate chip cookies, Jelly Belly beans, strawberry cream gummy bites, and more. It comes in a natural wood tray with a green satin ribbon: a nice presentation if you're gifting the candy.

Some candy classics

Another choice is the Candy Craves All Time Favorites: a set of 3 paint can-style containers with neon gummi worms, giant gumballs, and chewy fruit slices: almost 3 pounds of candy. It starts at $42.99 per delivery (again, not counting the subscription discount).

Get a Passport to save on shipping

Shipping at Harry & David can get pretty spendy. On that Fabulous Favs tray we described, each delivery had a fee of $14.99. That really brings up the price. But, if you anticipate doing a lot of gift-giving across the brand family (because Harry & David is just one of the many options in the 1 800 Flowers group), you should consider the Celebrations Passport. For an annual fee of $19.99, you'll get free shipping. It's easy to see how quickly that pays for itself with just two candy subscription deliveries (or mix and match with other items or sites within the group).

Best Candy Clubs

Customer service you can count on

Harry & David has fantastic customer service. First off, they have a live chat feature and an easy "Call Us” button if you have any questions that need quick answers. Better yet, they guarantee that you (or your recipient) will be absolutely delighted with their candy; if not, they'll send a replacement or issue a refund, hassle-free. And, while the various candy subscription options at Harry & David don't have tons of reviews, what's out there is encouraging (both for the candy and for the company at large).

Great company but a little limited as a candy club

We can't quite give Harry & David our highest recommendation among candy clubs. It's still a little DIY for our liking (because you have to choose to set something up as a subscription; it's not part of the plan automatically), and not everyone is going to appreciate getting the exact same candy month after month. But, we can't complain about the company's reputation, their attention to customer service, and the gift-worthy packaging they use on all of the candy they offer.

See's Candies Review 3 Star Rating

See's Candies

3 Star Rating
  • Candy Club Selection: Depends on what you select from the eligible candies
  • Cost: Starts at $9.50
  • Duration: Month-to-month
  • Frequency: Every 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, or 12 months
  • Shipping: Free on orders over $65, otherwise from $5.95 to $12.95
  • 60-day satisfaction guarantee

For nearly a century, See's Candies has delighted taste buds with its delectable assortment of chocolates and confections. Established in 1921 by Charles See in Los Angeles, California, this iconic American candy manufacturer and retailer has captured the hearts of candy enthusiasts nationwide.

Dedicated to quality and tradition

In 1972, See's Candies was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway, the multinational conglomerate chaired by renowned investor Warren Buffett. Under this ownership, See's Candies has continued to thrive and expand while upholding its legacy of delivering exceptional candies. With its enduring commitment to quality and tradition, See's Candies has earned a special place in the world of sweet treats.

So many types of candy

See's Candies is an expert in the art of candy making. Many of their chocolates are handcrafted in small batches to ensure the highest quality and flavor. They use only the finest ingredients and traditional recipes, resulting in chocolates that are not only delicious but also a testament to time-honored craftsmanship. From truffles and lollipops to chocolate bars, brittles, toffees, and fudge, the brand offers a diverse selection of confections to satisfy every sweet tooth. The signature product, the See's Chocolate Box, is a beloved classic, featuring an enticing assortment of chocolates.

Best Candy Clubs

You'll have to set up your club manually

Why go into all of this detail? Because the candy club options at See's basically involve choosing one of their everyday confections from the "Subscription Eligible” list. They call it "More See's Please”, but it isn't like most of the clubs we evaluated: you decide what kind of candy you want to set up as an automatic delivery, with the ability to swap treats, skip a delivery, or cancel as you wish. That makes See's Candy a little more cumbersome than some of the subscriptions on our list: if you want a variety of treats (like almond bars one month and an assortment the next), you have to log on and make those changes manually.

What you pay depends entirely on the candy you select each month

That also means that you can pay a lot or a little for your treats with See's. You could have an ongoing delivery of 5 oz. of Peanut Brittle for just $9.50 plus shipping or really go for it with the $155 Gift of Elegance with 4 lbs. of chocolates and candies (approximately 94 pieces). (However, despite being on the "eligible” list, that assortment didn't have any subscription options once we clicked to the product page.) Shipping is free if your subscription delivery is at least $65; otherwise, you'll pay anywhere from $5.95 (during cooler months) to $12.95 (during warmer months), so keep that in mind as you swap back and forth among different candy types.

Can be set up as a gift

It's no problem to set up an automatic delivery with See's as a gift for someone special. Just indicate that during checkout, enter your well-wishes, and that will appear on every shipment that goes out.

Best Candy Clubs

Generous satisfaction guarantee

And, if there's ever an issue with your treats, See's has a 60-day satisfaction guarantee. Just reach out via See's toll-free number and they'll offer you a refund or replacement.

Has the quality gone down over the years?

How about reputation? See's Candies has an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau, with just a handful of complaints filed there over the last three years. When you look at reviews on the various candy options too, almost everything gets 4 or 5 stars across hundreds of buyer ratings. On the other hand, when we jumped over to Trustpilot (which, of course, is where people mostly go to leave complaints and not praise), almost 60% of the 200+ reviews left there were only one star. Quite a few of them complained that the quality of the candy isn't what they remembered from years past. We appreciate that See's reps answered quickly and politely, offering to make it right through a replacement or refund as their satisfaction guarantee promises.

A little too much work

If you have a nostalgic love of See's Candies, you might think the time and effort required to set up ongoing deliveries in the style of a candy club there is worth it. They've been around for a long time and definitely have some loyal fans. But, for those just looking for a traditional candy club (namely, deliveries that they can set-and-forget to get a variety of treats on the regular), the "More See's Please” isn't likely to be as tempting as the higher-ranking options on our list.

Universal Yums Review 2.5 Star Rating

Universal Yums

2.5 Star Rating
  • Candy Club Selection: Chocolates, candies, cookies, and even savory treats, all themed by country
  • Cost: Starting at $16 for the Yum Box (5-7 snacks), $26 for the Yum Yum Box (10-12 snacks), and $41 for the Super Yum Box (15-18 snacks)
  • Duration: 1, 3, 6, or 12 months
  • Frequency: Monthly
  • Shipping: Free in the lower 48 United States

Universal Yums is a subscription box service that offers a unique and delightful experience for food enthusiasts by providing a curated selection of snacks from different countries around the world.

Treats from all over the world

Each month, subscribers receive a box filled with an assortment of sweet and savory snacks, candies, and treats originating from a specific country (or region). The company aims to introduce subscribers to the diverse and exotic flavors of global cuisine, allowing them to explore snacks that might not be readily available in their local markets. That being said, this isn't a candy club per se, so be aware that if you're only looking for sweets, Universal Yums doesn't even try to offer that.

Choose a club by how much you want to get

There are 3 boxes to choose from at Universal Yums, all varying by size and with no extra costs for shipping if you're sending the box within the continental US:

  • Yum Box: starting at $16/month, this box comes with 5-7 snacks and a 12-page booklet with trivia and games related to the focus country
  • Yum Yum Box: starting at $26/month, it comes with 5 additional snacks and a longer booklet of games and trivia
  • Super Yum Box: starting at $41/month, you get everything in the Yum Yum box plus five additional full-size snacks, a drink, specialty food, and even more bonus content than the first two boxes

Prepay as a gift to get more options

You can opt to pay for your deliveries month to month, but the prices we referenced above assume that you're prepaying for a year. If you'd rather prepay for a shorter length of time, you'll want to use the gift option (even if you're giving it to yourself as a treat). That lets you choose from options of just one month, three months, or six months as well.

Best Candy Clubs

You might get to choose the first country

If inventory allows, Universal Yums lets you choose the country theme for your first box. At the time of this review, the options included Scandinavia, Germany, Czechia, Indonesia, and Greece (with some options only available on certain subscriptions). Depending on the time of year you're ordering, you might also see a "Holidays Everywhere” or another seasonally-themed option for the initial delivery. Subsequent boxes will be themed around countries of Universal Yums' choosing. Both within a particular calendar year and from one calendar year to the following one, there shouldn't be any repeats of countries, so you could potentially try treats from 24 different places over a two-year period.

Get a sneak peek at future deliveries by looking at the past

Curious to hear what might be in a box? Let's take a look at a previously-featured country, Taiwan. While Universal Yums doesn't spell out everything they've sent, they do reveal that their two most popular items in that box were the Choco Peanut Mochi and Pineapple Cake, and their "weirdest” inclusion was the Peach Jelly Shot. Again, because this isn't meant to be strictly candy, you shouldn't be surprised when the flavors in your box are peppery, savory, or something in addition to "sweet”.

Decent gift-giving tools

Gift-giving with Universal Yums is pretty solid. When checking out, you can indicate that your subscription is a gift and include a note with the first box. You also have the option to download and print out an "at-home gift note”; you can get to that feature through the FAQ, if you don't spot it in time during the checkout process. Scheduling, though, is a little less helpful: if you're gifting during the holidays, you can delay the shipment on your first box until December 8th. At other times of the year, there's no option for delayed sending, and the initial box will go out within one business day.

Subscribers have a love-hate relationship

All of this considered, we're still not able to give Universal Yums an unqualified recommendation. Why? It starts with the company's "F” rating from the Better Business Bureau. While there weren't hundreds and hundreds of complaints there (just 15 in the last year and 26 total over three years), it bothers us that the company failed to respond to 19 of those 26. That's not exactly what we'd call "great customer service”. We also noticed that reviewers on Trustpilot are pretty evenly split: 43% give Universal Yums a 5-star rating, while 38% give it the lowest possible 1-star score. Looks like you'll either love it or hate it here.

Best Candy Clubs

More than just snacks

Some people thoroughly enjoy all of the extras (learning about the country, getting little toys and non-food items, and so on), while others feel like some of those add-ons make the snacks themselves not worth what they're paying. And, despite promising no repeats, multiple customers said that over the course of a year, some of their snacks started to feel already-been-done (like getting multiple ketchup-flavored snacks, albeit from different countries).

Not exactly a candy club per se

And, of course, if we're looking at candy clubs, Universal Yums just doesn't stick to that theme. That's not a reason to fault them, of course: it's not what they're intending to do. But, if we're looking specifically at subscriptions of sweet treats, this membership doesn't 100% color within those lines.

Some room to improve

The most we can offer Universal Yums is a 2.5-star rating. While we personally would enjoy the around-the-world theming, it's not everyone's cup of tea. We don't love the company's failure to respond to complaints, and this club doesn't deliver the sweets-and-nothing-but experience many candy club shoppers are looking for.

Candy Club invites you to "live sweetly" and promises an "extraordinary candy experience" with their monthly candy deliveries. These sweet packages feature a tantalizing mix of candies made by small artisans and well-known candy brands, providing you with a unique taste adventure every time. If you're considering joining Candy Club, here's what you need to know.

Fun sweet, sour, and fruity candies

One of the most exciting aspects of joining Candy Club is the variety of candies you'll discover. On the sweet side, you can expect customer favorites like Strawberry Laces, Cotton Candy Taffy, Choco Bears, and an array of gummies in various shapes and sizes. For those with a taste for the tangy, Candy Club's sour selections include treats such as Lemonade Straws, Sour Belts in multiple fruit flavors, and gummies shaped like robots and dinosaurs. These unique selections are often hard to find in your typical candy store.

One size fits all now

Setting up your membership here is even easier than before, now that there's only one size on offer: each delivery comes with six 6-oz cups of assorted candies, but you do need to indicate if you'd like those treats to be "Mostly Sweets” or "Mostly Sours”. Unfortunately, you're going to be paying $39.99/month for this now-smaller box that used to be just $29.99 per delivery (*sigh* for inflation, right?).

Free shipping

On the other hand, when we got to the checkout process (after being required to create an account), we learned that shipping is now free. Yay! At the time of our most recent visit to Candy Club, we did see a promo code at the top of the site offering $15 off on the first delivery, so keep your eyes peeled too.

Best Candy Clubs

No gift-giving features

There's not much on offer here in the way of gifting. You can enter a different shipping address from what you use for billing, but there's no option for putting in a note for a recipient or even for scheduling Candy Club's deliveries to start on a certain date.

Lots of negative reviews

That's not the only area where Candy Club doesn't exactly shine. With an average rating of just 2.4 out of 5 stars across nearly 600 reviews, there are concerns to address. While the company does offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee and promises a replacement if you're unhappy with any of your candy deliveries, many customers have complained that most of the candies did not live up to their expectations in terms of taste. They also had a hard time getting in touch with customer service: there's only a "Contact Us” form and email address on the site (though we found a customer service phone number deep in the Terms and Conditions, if you need it). Despite an improved rating from the Better Business Bureau, from a "B" previously to an "A-" at the time of this review, Candy Club might not be your top choice for candy club subscriptions.

Not recommended anymore

Candy Club does offer an enticing variety of treats with a solid replacement policy, but it falls short of earning our recommendation among the options in the candy club sphere. While they strive to provide a unique candy experience, the number of customer complaints and decrease in subscription options leaves Candy Club towards the bottom of our rankings.

Classic Candy Box Review 1 Star Rating

Classic Candy Box

1 Star Rating
  • Candy Club Selection: At least 25 pieces of classic candies (about 1 lb.)
  • Cost: From $28.97 to $34.97 per box
  • Duration: 1, 3, 6, or 12 months
  • Frequency: Monthly
  • Shipping: $8.99/month

Classic Candy Box is offered through Cratejoy and is the quintessential candy club: a different assortment every month of treats from the early 1900s to the 1980s. You'll get at least 25 pieces in each box, for a total of 1-1.5 pounds of candy.

Just your basic candies

What kinds of candies might appear in your Classic Candy Box? This club includes chocolates, hard candies, chewy candies, and more. Past selections have included Zots, Oh Henry, Sugar Babies, Blow Pops, and so on.

Poor value

This definitely isn't the best value in candy clubs. You'll pay $34.97 for one month, $32.97 per box on a 3-month subscription, $30.97 on a 6-month plan, and $28.97 for each box in a year-long membership. However, that doesn't include the $8.99/box delivery fee. Do the math and you'll see that you could be spending over $40 to get 25 pieces of candy.

No novel candy or treats

Now, if those were some really hard-to-find or high-quality candies, you might think Classic Candy Box was worth it. Unfortunately, that's not what customers say. One recent box contained just Tootsie Rolls, a Kit-Kat, and a Butterfinger. Another person said their box only had Tootsie Rolls and Hershey's Kisses.

Best Candy Clubs

Doesn't live up to the hype

Sadly, the complaints don't stop there; in fact, they get worse. Just looking through the reviews left on Cratejoy for Classic Candy Box, we found numerous rants from people who prepaid for a subscription and only received a single box, with no help from Cratejoy to get a refund or a tracking number. These disgruntled customers would advise you not to expect your experience to be even remotely like the unboxing videos featured on the Classic Candy Box product page.

Can give it as a gift, but we don't recommend it

Yes, this candy club has gift-giving options... but why would you want to? In one mom's words, "it was a Christmas present for my son and his excitement quickly turned to disappointment EVERYDAY when it never arrived”.

Nothing sweet about the experience here

Take their advice (and ours) and run away from Classic Candy Box. In all likelihood, you're going to wind up disappointed: either your boxes won't come at all or they'll be filled with cheap candy you could have purchased on your own at the grocery store. This candy club is just going to leave a sour taste in your mouth.

The process is simple: you get to select the type of candy you love and how frequently you want to receive your candy deliveries. Each candy club has its own unique subscription options. Some allow you to pre-select a fixed timeframe, like 3 months or a year, after which your membership ends. Others offer automatic renewals on a monthly basis until you decide to cancel your subscription. There are also candy clubs that give you the flexibility to space out your deliveries, perhaps receiving them once every three months or even less often, in case you want to pace yourself.

Candy clubs also make an excellent choice for gift-giving. Many of these clubs offer you the opportunity to include a personalized gift message for your lucky recipient, making the sweet surprise even more special. Who wouldn't prefer a monthly candy delivery over an outfit that doesn't quite fit or a gift card to a store they may never visit? The answer is simple - candy clubs make for thoughtful and delightful presents, sure to bring smiles to the faces of those you care about.

With numerous candy clubs available, it can be challenging to determine which one will suit your preferences. Here are some factors to consider when making your decision:

  • Candy type and quantity. What types of candies does the candy club offer? Make sure they have your favorite treats: traditional, retro, international, or something else? Also consider the quantity included in each shipment. Some clubs provide just a handful of candies, while others deliver dozens or even hundreds.
  • Cost. How much will you pay each month for your candy club subscription? Keep in mind that some providers include shipping in the membership cost, while others may have additional fees that can significantly increase what you spend.
  • Reputation. Research the candy club's reputation, like feedback from other candy enthusiasts, to ensure you are making the right choice. Check if the company has a history of on-time deliveries and responsive customer service. Finally, look for ratings and reviews from organizations like the Better Business Bureau to gauge the club's overall reliability.

If you're struggling to decide which candy club to choose, Top Consumer Reviews has reviewed and ranked the best ones available today. So why wait? Explore the world of candy clubs and indulge in a monthly experience that brings delight straight to your doorstep. Whether it's for yourself or a loved one, a candy club subscription is sure to add a little extra sweetness to your life!

Candy Club FAQ

Great question! Most chocolate based candies, like candy bars can be frozen. The shelf life for frozen candy, if stored in an airtight container or bag, can last anywhere from 12 to 18 months.
There are many kinds of memberships such as the Fun Box, Party Box, Signature Sweets, or a chocolate-only collection. Each package will contain anywhere from 3 to 6 full size products. Candy types can range from sweet and sour to spicy to even indulgent chocolates.
Dark chocolate, also known as semi-sweet, has 4 main differences from milk chocolate. Dark chocolate contains no more than 12% milk fat, less cocoa butter, contains at least 15% chocolate liquor, and has a more intense chocolate flavor. The only other difference is that milk chocolate uses fresh whole milk rather than milk fat.
Great question! Nut-free means that the candy has been made without a trace of nuts. In fact, Nut-free candies are generally created and packaged in a nut-free facility. If you still have questions, feel free to reach out to the company's customer service.
When looking at the package, unless stated, there should be the letter K or U with a circle around it. There are more kosher symbols, but those two are the most popular. If you still are uncertain, feel free to contact customer service or visit oukosher.org and search the product name and brand to see if it is on the approved kosher food list.
It all depends on the number of guests you have, but a good rule of thumb is to estimate that each guest will eat about 4 oz. of candy. The formula to calculate this is the total number of guests multiplied by (four ounces) = total. For conversion to pounds, 4 ounces is equal to 1/4 of a pound. So, if you had 200 guests, you would have 50 pounds of candy.
The shelf life of hard sweets can be stored at room temperature or dry, cool conditions up to one year. Whereas the shelf life of hard candy can vary. Typically candy bars and concession candy can last up to one month. Bubblegum, candy corn, dark chocolate, Jordan almonds, and licorice have a shelf life of 2 months. Milk or white chocolates tend to last 3 months and jellybeans last up to 6 months. Longer shelf-life candy that lasts up to 12 months include caramel, gummy candy, hard candy, lollipops, and novelty candy. The longest shelf life is 24 months and is typically limited to mints. In general, the temperature the candy is stored at is important to the overall quality of the sweet.
Of course, this whitish powder is called chocolate bloom and is not white mold. Chocolate bloom does not affect the quality of the product and occurs when there is a temperature change. Keep in mind, if the chocolate is older than the recommended shelf life and contains white stuff on it, we recommend you discard the product and purchase fresh and delicious new candy.
