Canvas People has been in business since 2009, selling over 1.4 million canvases nationwide.
Nice set of canvas options
The company has made some positive changes since our last review. Our photo uploaded quickly, with no resolution issues or other problems. We were also pleased to see so many options:
High price, large discount
Regular pricing at Canvas People is very high: starting at $44.99 for a 4x4 print, all the way up to $194.99 for a 20x48 project. However, there was an automatically-applied 80% discount when we went to place an order; we're guessing that the "promotion" or something like it is usually in place, but there's no guarantee of that.
One minor annoyance: the price we were given for a 4x4 canvas print was $8.99, but it had mysteriously changed to $9.00 between the Create a Canvas page and the order summary.
Expensive shipping
And a larger irritation? Having to pay $14.95 in shipping for a print that cost less than $10. That's only for regular shipping; if we wanted to get our print delivered in 5-7 days after it's created, we'd have to pay another $14.95, or an additional $24.95 to get it within 3-5 business days. Canvas People recommends ordering 12-14 business days in advance of when you need your print, to make sure you get it in time.
Failure to respond
Despite some improvements, Canvas People actually ranks lower in our ratings this time around. Why? A rating of "F" with the Better Business Bureau indicates serious issues with the way this company deals with customers. The BBB states that the business has failed to respond appropriately - or at all! - to many customer complaints. Reviews both on the BBB site and elsewhere describe credit cards being charged for orders with no confirmation of an order actually being placed, poorly-printed images (with features not requested or even zooming in on photos when the customer didn't want it done), and an overall lackluster experience.
All of these factors combined to give a disappointing rating for Canvas People. We think you'll have a much more pleasant ordering process if you choose a higher-ranked business in our review.
Gone are the days where the best way to display a treasured photograph was in a traditional frame. Most home decoration TV shows, magazines, and websites feature canvas prints as the most modern-yet-elegant format for showing off your children, favorite scenic shots from a vacation, or even spotlighting your four-legged family members.
Using a canvas print takes your images from a flat, two-dimensional aspect and pops them out as a 3-D work of art. Whether you're buying a canvas print for yourself or as a gift to commemorate a special occasion, ordering it online can save you time and money while still resulting in the pixel-perfect quality you'd expect if you entrusted the project to a local photographer and print shop.
When working with an online supplier of canvas prints, you'll find that the best websites will walk you through everything you need to know - from how to select an ideal image, the best canvas size for your selected photograph, which framing to use, and which touch-up services like fixing color balance or adding text elements might give it a special touch.
How can you tell which canvas print company you should use for your next project? Services vary widely, so as you decide which one would meet your needs, keep these factors in mind:
