Based in Texas, Canvas Press has been offering paper, metal, and canvas prints since opening in 2006. Their prints are all made in and shipped from the USA, allowing for faster delivery and higher-quality prints than services who make and ship canvas prints overseas.
Free image consultation
One perk that Canvas Press offers that we didn't see with all of the companies in our review is a free image consultation. When you click the "help" button on the navigation bar, you'll find the link to the form to fill out and to upload your photo. You'll be contacted by a Canvas Press representative who will get any extra information needed and answer your questions prior to placing your order.
Wide range of canvas sizes
You'll find an appealing variety of canvas sizes with this company:
Variety of border options
You'll also get four different mounting/border options: 0.75", 1.5", 2", and non-stretched canvas. If you opt for one of the wrapped styles, you can select a mirror, image, or color wrap. Canvas options range from standard with a satin finish, museum matte, or museum glossy.
Watch for the promotions
Everyday pricing is higher than most, starting at $41.33 for an 8x8, 0.75" canvas print. But, when we went to place an order, there was a seasonal promotion in placed offering a discount of 50% on canvas prints up to the 36x48 size.
Getting started
To get started, you can click on the bright pink/red Create a Canvas Print button at the top of the page. You'll need to know the thickness you want right away, since it's the first selection you have to make. We didn't love that we either had to upload an image or get it from Flickr; we would love to see social media upload options like Instagram or Facebook as well. It took a long time to upload our selected image from our laptop; competitor sites had it ready to go in a second or two, while we waited more than a minute for it to appear on the Canvas Press Design Tool. It never did. We refreshed the screen and tried uploading again, to no avail. That was a definite frustration and disadvantage; most customers would probably walk away at that point, no matter how good the service is otherwise.
Expensive shipping
Shipping is much more expensive at Canvas Press than with most of their competitors. Ground Shipping starts at $20 for a package less than 17" and goes all the way up to $50 for packages measuring more than 40". If you need 3-day express/overnight delivery, you're looking at a range of $35/$55 to $95/$120.
Good quality canvas prints
On a positive note, customers have great things to say about the quality of the canvas prints received from Canvas Press. Fast delivery, excellent image reproduction, and better-than-average materials are some of the compliments the business receives on a regular basis. Better yet, Canvas Press offers a 30-day replacement policy and a lifetime guarantee on workmanship and materials.
If you can get the uploading tool to work for you, Canvas Press is a good choice for higher-quality canvas prints that are printed in and shipped from the US. Just be prepared for it to cost a little extra for both the print itself as well as the shipping.
Gone are the days where the best way to display a treasured photograph was in a traditional frame. Most home decoration TV shows, magazines, and websites feature canvas prints as the most modern-yet-elegant format for showing off your children, favorite scenic shots from a vacation, or even spotlighting your four-legged family members.
Using a canvas print takes your images from a flat, two-dimensional aspect and pops them out as a 3-D work of art. Whether you're buying a canvas print for yourself or as a gift to commemorate a special occasion, ordering it online can save you time and money while still resulting in the pixel-perfect quality you'd expect if you entrusted the project to a local photographer and print shop.
When working with an online supplier of canvas prints, you'll find that the best websites will walk you through everything you need to know - from how to select an ideal image, the best canvas size for your selected photograph, which framing to use, and which touch-up services like fixing color balance or adding text elements might give it a special touch.
How can you tell which canvas print company you should use for your next project? Services vary widely, so as you decide which one would meet your needs, keep these factors in mind:
