There's no way around it: car accidents are the worst. Not only is it an extremely stressful event, but getting in a car accident of any kind is costly. In fact, the total costs related to car accidents through one calendar year in the U.S. is over $480 billion.
Whether you're worried about paying for car repairs or personal injury concerns, it can be a pretty overwhelming experience. Plus, you may need to deal with insurance companies or handle extenuating circumstances around fault that cause an insurance claim to be more complex. In these cases, your best bet for your financial security and stress levels is to hire a car accident lawyer.

Accident is an online site that helps connect you to the perfect car accident lawyer through its algorithm-based system. Car accident lawyers all practice personal injury law and offer a range of specializations including car accidents, sexual assault, work injuries, and more. Accident can source you directly to the ideal lawyer for your case. And once you're connected to a lawyer, the first consultation is 100% free.
Accident connects you to the best fit
Getting connected with a car accident lawyer through Accident starts with a quick questionnaire. First, Accident will ask how long ago the injury happened, what kind of accident caused the injury, if you were at fault for the accident, if your injury required treatment or surgery, the primary area of pain or injury, and if you already have a lawyer representing you. Finally, you'll be asked to briefly describe your case in your own words. Within a minute or two, you'll be matched to a lawyer. When we tried it out, we were promptly connected with a local law firm and offered the contact information to get the process going.
Learn all about the law firms
One thing we love about Accident is that it offers tons of details for the car accident lawyers you're connected with. We were suggested the Law Offices of Jared Spingarn for our car accident test case (a woman in her 20s who was not at fault and sustained neck and back injuries during the accident). Accident gave us the full summary of the law offices, testimonials from the last three years, a list of the case verdicts, and recent settlements for car accidents with compensation between $950,000 to $1,350,000.
No fees for using Accident
There are no prices or fees for using Accident to find car accident lawyers. Your overall cost will depend on the final fees of your lawyer. Most of the lawyers we were suggested through Accident were paid through contingency fees, though the percentage was not listed. You can expect that the lawyer payment will come out of your final settlement, and not your pocket. As for Accident itself, it earns its commission from the lawyers who the site charges for each lead, so you don't pay for using the platform either.
Top-notch professionalism
The testimonials for the suggested lawyers on Accident showed high ratings from happy customers. Accident itself also received high praise from customers on third-party review sites who were happily connected to top-notch car accident lawyers. Accident holds an "A-” rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, and it's just as popular on third-party review sites. Across different platforms, Accident has earned a 4.8-star average rating out of 5. Reviews focus on how helpful Accident was in connecting customers to lawyers who got them solid settlements. Customers who needed to call or contact team members at Accident said that the staff was helpful and kind. Almost every review mentions the professionalism of the lawyers on the platform as well.
#1 way to find a car accident lawyer
If you're looking for a way to connect to a lawyer in your area ASAP with a specialization in your type of accident and with top-notch testimonials, Accident is a great place to look. The algorithm connected us with a law firm that specialized in car accidents and had a record of getting high-paying settlements for individuals that matched our fictional car crash customer. While you do need to wait to get the total cost details, the using Accident is 100% free of charge, making it a great resource, and with high ratings across the board, Accident is the top database pick for a high-quality car accident lawyer in our review.
Expertise is a database site designed to help you find local professionals for any service. Whether you're looking for home improvement, finance assistance, insurance brokers, health and wellness professionals, or (of course) a car accident lawyer, you can use Expertise to see what's in your area. Most businesses and professionals are selected through internal research and review. Expertise includes over 200 different industries, so if you're looking for a one-stop "I need some help” shop, this is a great choice.
Curated results for best fit
To find what you need, you'll want to go under the legal category, and then select car accident lawyers. From there, you'll put in your city, and in just a few clicks you'll see the top recommendations for car accident lawyers in your area. For us, we were shown 22 results. According to Expertise's process, there were 78 individuals with that expertise in our area, and 55 of them made the cut to be listed on the Expertise website. From there, Expertise highlighted the top 22 using its 5-point selection process that included qualifications, reviews, experience, professionalism, and availability.
Helpful listings disclose partnerships
When you start browsing the car accident lawyer listings offered by Expertise, you'll see tons of details about each one. The profiles list each person's active credentials, law school, and what year the lawyer passed the bar. Each listing also notes the star ratings for individual lawyers and a full detailed report on why Expertise added the lawyer to the site. Keep in mind, some of the results may be "featured partners” which are disclosed as being paid promotional partnerships with particular attorneys or firms - and that impacts their placement in the listing. All featured partners are disclosed as such, so you can decide if you want to keep browsing.
No cost to you until you hire your lawyer
As with most database sites, Expertise is free for you to use. You only pay for a car accident lawyer when you secure his or her services. Through Expertise, you'll just enjoy free access to the database. Expertise makes its money through listing fees or advertising options for businesses that want to be featured. For most standard car accident lawyer listings, you'll also see some preliminary details on costs: whether the firm or lawyer provides free consultations or offers a no-fee plan unless you win the case.
Research-based star ratings
Expertise displays individual scores for each car accident lawyer on the platform, and it also tells you where that rating comes from. For example, one lawyer we were suggested had a 5-star rating overall. According to Expertise, this was due to the high ratings on other sites including Google, Facebook, Avvo, and Yelp, and through the Expertise mystery shoppers' experiences when dealing with the individual lawyer. All of the car accident lawyers we were recommended on Expertise were rated 4.5 or 5 stars. As for the platform itself, Expertise holds an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau and a competitive 4.1 stars. There are positive reviews from both buyers looking to secure professional services and from businesses alike.
Most detailed research on lawyers
If you're looking for a site that does background research on car accident lawyers and does all the heavy lifting for you, Expertise is the one to check out. On top of providing ratings based on a proprietary rating process, Expertise does mystery shopping to make sure that they know what kind of experience you might have before they rate a business. Plus, with transparency on which businesses are paying to be featured, you don't have to worry about being sold on a car accident lawyer who isn't actually the best fit. For these reasons, and the heavy emphasis on research, Expertise earns a near-perfect score in our review.
Lawyers is a wide-reaching legal database that promises to connect you with legal professionals who are a perfect fit for your legal concerns. The company is run by Martindale-Hubbell, which is a member of the Martindale-Avvo Legal Network. You can find a range of helpful blogs, articles, and legal Q&As across the Lawyers website, and with over 1 million reviews for car accident lawyers featured on Lawyers, you can be sure you'll get the lowdown on everything you need.
Around 300 car accident lawyers
You can find a car accident lawyer by searching the area of practice or your preferred location. After that, you'll be asked to provide your city and zip code before Lawyers shows you the results. You can filter to see entire law firms or only specific lawyers in your area. You can also filter by top-reviewed lawyers, those that offer free consultations, and how many years a specific lawyer or office has been in business. We were shown about 300 total car accident lawyers in our area, though only about 20 of them were listed as offering free consultations.
Helpful and standardized lawyer listings
You might notice that some of the car accident lawyer listings on Lawyers have a red "AV” symbol on some of the photos. This is a notice that shows that the specific individual or firm is an AV Preeminent Peer Rated Attorney. This means the lawyer is a member who has been rated by other lawyers for top ethical standards and an "A” grade for cases. In general, the listings also include the locations of each lawyer or firm, the specializations (like automobile, motorcycle, or other accidents), contact information, the total number of reviews for each lawyer, and whether or not that lawyer is sponsored. Lawyers also offers a comparison tool so you can look at your favorite picks side by side.
Free to use but limited free consultations
As with most car accident lawyer databases, Lawyers is free to use. The company makes its money on sponsored listings where attorneys and firms can pay extra to have their listing featured on Lawyers. These are all highlighted with a "Sponsored” tag at the bottom of each listing, so you know who has paid them to be promoted and who hasn't. Only some lawyers offer free consultations, though, with only about 6% of all the lawyers we saw offering that feature. So, you may struggle to find cost-effective lawyers on this platform when compared to other referral services.
Transparent reviews are unfiltered
One of the features we love at Lawyers is that you can see star ratings for every lawyer and an exact number of total reviews from former or current clients. The best part? There were negative reviews included. Of the 20-ish car accident lawyers in our area listed on Lawyers, the rating averages ranged from 3.7 up to 5 stars. One lawyer received 32% of all reviews with 1-star ratings, which is easily visible. If you'd like, you can view peer reviews as well by switching the toggle. While third-party reviews show some frustrations with unmonitored reviews on Lawyers, sifting through the reviews on the database shows that Lawyers offers a very transparent look at different members on its platform.
Unbiased reviews make this a winner
Lawyers is a standout site for one main reason: it offers fully transparent reviews for individual lawyers on the platform. Where other sites aren't clear about how reviews are posted or filtered, Lawyers includes all the reviews for different members (the good and the bad). With both customer and peer reviews, you can get a clear picture of the service quality for different car accident lawyers. Overall, this site is a fantastic resource with details you can trust, earning it a high finish in our review.
Super Lawyers is a site that specializes in recognizing the "top attorneys nationwide” through its patented process of independently researching firms and lawyers and using peer review. The lawyers on Super Lawyers are specifically selected and include those with tons of experience in their fields as well as up-and-coming lawyers with top-notch reputations. The selection process evaluates lawyers with a 12-point review that includes peer recognition and pre-professional achievements. This way, you know that the car accident lawyers on this platform are the cream of the crop. Plus, Super Lawyers is referenced by other lawyer databases to show high-quality service, making it a trustworthy database all on its own.
Choose from 124+ local lawyers
To find what you need on Super Lawyers, you can choose to browse by popular cities or states. You can specifically search by car accident lawyers and don't need to worry about looking for personal injury and then filtering, which is helpful. In our area, we were shown 124 different lawyers. However, there was no way to filter results, so you may need to spend some time scrolling to get to your ideal car accident lawyer.
Click for detailed info on each car accident lawyer
The listings on Super Lawyers are pretty minimalist when you're browsing. You just get the name, contact info, and a brief blurb about each lawyer. To see the details, you'll want to click on the full profiles. From there, you'll see where the car accident lawyers went to law school, which years the lawyers were selected to be part of the Super Lawyers database (there isn't a guarantee they'll get re-selected), a list of special achievements, and case settlement totals. Some of the cases confirmed payouts of over $3 million.
Free to use
There is no cost to browse car accident lawyers on Super Lawyers. The site makes money on pushed or advertised listings for lawyer members. Keep in mind that car accident lawyers can't pay to be selected, but once chosen, they can pay for additional ads and highlights in lists of lawyers. You'll be able to see if a lawyer is sponsored by looking for a little tab shape under a lawyer's photo. For our search, the top 7 lawyers were sponsored and the rest were just nominees of Super Lawyers.
Almost no buzz for Super Lawyers
One thing that Super Lawyers doesn't offer is customer reviews for each car accident lawyer. Since the process for getting selected for the site is so stringent to begin with, there isn't much need to provide customer reviews. However, it is helpful to see what other customers think about individual lawyers even in terms of personality or communication, so it's a bit of a let-down that Super Lawyers doesn't include reviews. On outside websites, there isn't much buzz for Super Lawyers. There was only one review on Trustpilot, and there isn't currently a page for Super Lawyers on the Better Business Bureau. Overall, the general lack of feedback is odd considering how thorough Super Lawyers is in other areas.
Competitive for its 12-point review process
While Super Lawyers is a great place to check out if you want to hire an award-winning car accident lawyer, the total lack of customer reviews for individual lawyers and the site itself is a bit of a problem. If you're looking for a place where you can compare customers with experiences or cases similar to yours, you might want to look at another referral service. On the other hand, if you like the peer review process, Super Lawyers offers an impressive 12-point system of research to add lawyers to their lists. So, as a free resource, it's worth a look on that merit. For these reasons, it still earns a good rating, though it would stand out more if it had (any) reviews on and off the platform.
Best Lawyers is more than just a database to help you find a car accident lawyer. It's a site that works on a recommendation basis to recognize the top lawyers in the industry. This is a peer-reviewed platform where lawyers recommend and evaluate other lawyers to be recognized by Best Lawyers. The platform includes 150 practice areas, and over 166,000 lawyers are already recognized as the top performers in their specializations. The list of lawyers at Best Lawyers only includes outstanding individuals who are evaluated and voted into the platform. There are no fees allowed, so the process is entirely based on the merit of the individual lawyer or firm.
The site is meant for other lawyers
To start looking for your car accident lawyer on Best Lawyers, you can easily use the search feature on the main page. You can search by a specific lawyer or firm if you want to check on someone you've read about to see if they're recognized as a top lawyer. Or, if you're just starting your search, you can put in your legal issue and location. You can limit the search to only your local city, or check out lawyers across your state. When you first complete your search, you'll be shown 5 visible results. If you want to see the rest of the lawyers, you'll need to log in or create an account. This is a little more complex than you'd think, though. Regrettably, accounts are only available to awarded lawyers and firm representatives. So, for the average person, using this database is very limited.
Find your branch's phone number for consultations
When we completed the search for our local city, there were two law firms suggested for car accident lawyers. One had 250 awards through Best Lawyers and the other 613. The profile pages include the list of all practicing lawyers at a firm, the locations it operates in, the areas of practice, and news about that firm. If you want details about costs, you can use the locations tab to find your local branch and call them directly for a consultation, or click the "visit website” button at the top of the profile page.
Free to use but limited
Best Lawyers is free to use, and the lawyers are also not paying to be included on the site. However, it is an exclusive database. So, while there's no money involved, you may not get as many results looking for car accident lawyers at Best Lawyers when compared to other resources. While you can find and contact law firms and individual car accident lawyers free of charge, this site might be better used as a way to check on lawyers you already are interested in to see if they're top quality.
No customer reviews since there are no customers
Since Best Lawyers is a non-profit site based on nominations, there aren't any customer reviews for this site. It also doesn't have a page with the Better Business Bureau. Best Lawyers serves almost as a law version of the BBB in its own capacity. So, if you want to see how car accident lawyers stack up (and whether they've won any awards), this is a great spot to check ASAP. If you're wondering how Best Lawyers gets its revenue, this is through custom publications or marketing offered to lawyers who win awards through nominations on that platform.
Great for helping you research
If you're looking for a site to find out if your chosen lawyer is top-notch, Best Lawyers is the database to use. Through searches in your area or by a particular car accident lawyer or law firm, you can easily find out if your local attorneys are worth it for your case. While this isn't the best site if you want to see lots of lawyers (since you have to be a lawyer yourself to see the full listings), it is a great resource to check out what's going on for car accident law in your area, and which lawyers you can trust. For these reasons, it earns a balanced score in our review.
Thumbtack helps you connect with local professionals of all kinds. From personal trainers to home improvement specialists, you can find almost any type of help on Thumbtack. Lawyers (and specifically car accident lawyers) are one of the many categories of professionals you can find by searching through Thumbtack's database. With over 300,000 local businesses to choose from within 500+ project types, Thumbtack can definitely be considered as a one-stop shop for professional help.
Minimal options for lawyers
To start browsing car accident lawyers in your area, you just need to type "car accident lawyer” into the search bar. Thumbtack will ask you a few clarifying questions including what kind of accident it was and whether or not you lost income as a result, and then you'll see a full list of legal professionals. Thumbtack will highlight the top three matching car accident lawyers, but if you mouse over the information bubble, you'll note that these are sponsored individuals. For the non-sponsored lawyers, you can keep scrolling. Notably, Thumbtack had one of the smallest lists in our review with only 5 suggested lawyers in total.
Listings missing some legal details
The car accident lawyer listings on Thumbtack are helpful and include details like how many times a lawyer or firm has been hired through Thumbtack, how quickly the individual will respond to a query (usually about an hour), whether or not their law license is verified, and how many years the individual has been in business. There aren't a lot of additional details we see on other law-focused websites, though. For example, completed cases or the amount won in each case is not listed on the profiles of lawyers on Thumbtack.
Free to browse and contact lawyers
All of the car accident lawyers on Thumbtack have a "contact for price” notice on their listings. So, it's unclear what kind of pay structure they use just by looking through Thumbtack. On the bright side, contacting individuals through Thumbtack is free of charge for you. Thumbtack makes its money from the professionals. However, unlike other sites that mostly charge a lawyer for advertisements, Thumbtack also charges the professionals on its site for each query.
Money-back guarantee within 45 days
One of the features we loved is that if you hire a car accident lawyer (or professional of any kind) from Thumbtack, you are covered by the site's money-back guarantee. So, if the pro doesn't get the job done as promised, you have 45 days to notify Thumbtack and get your money back. Thumbtack notes that it can reimburse you up to $2,500.
Solid lawyers, but not many like using the platform
Thumbtack's car accident lawyers are all rated out of 5 stars. The most popular lawyers have over 100 individual reviews through those who hired them on Thumbtack. And, they aren't uniformly 5 stars either. Ratings for the 5 lawyers in our area ranged from 4.7-5 stars, including some negative reviews. This means that Thumbtack isn't hiding negative feedback, making these ratings more trustworthy. Thumbtack itself holds an "A-” rating from the Better Business Bureau. However, this platform isn't as popular on Trustpilot, where the site has a 3.7-star average out of 5. Most of the complaints about this business are from the professionals (like car accident lawyers), and not customers. Pros complain about high fees for queries and being charged even when they didn't respond or open the queries. This could go toward explaining why so few car accident lawyers are using the platform.
Low number of pros makes it less competitive
Thumbtack is a solid choice, but the lack of lawyers on the platform keeps it from being as competitive as it could. While we love the money-back guarantee and the detailed reviews that aren't filtered, Thumbtack had only 5 car accident lawyers in our area while most other database sites had hundreds. If you're hoping to find a lawyer here, you might be disappointed if the first few options aren't to your taste. However, as a highly-rated site for finding professionals, Thumbtack might be worth a look.
Justia calls itself an "open community” with free access to legal resources and professionals. Justia helps firms grow their practices, and you benefit from its free legal resources including the database portal, a lawyer directory, and articles on recent laws and regulations. Keep in mind, though, that the car accident lawyers are all under "personal injury” at Justia, so while you're browsing, you'll need to use that terminology instead.
Over 400 lawyers to choose from
To find car accident lawyers in your area, you can search by state or city depending on how specific you'd like your results. We used our local city which gave us 451 listings for car accident (personal injury) lawyers. You can limit your listings by preferred injury type, lawyer rating, whether or not the lawyers offer video conferencing and more. Oddly, when we added filters, the number of lawyers in our results didn't change. It was all uniformly 451 car accident lawyers. However, the order in which lawyers appeared changed.
More comprehensive listings for lawyers who pay
The listings on Justia have some helpful features. First, there's a save and compare tool, so if you see any lawyers you like, you can come back to them later and compare your top picks. Second, some of the Justia lawyers have paid promotions. These are listed at the top under the header "sponsored listings” and will have a "premium” ribbon added to the photo of the lawyer on the listing. All the listings have the phone number of the car accident lawyer, a brief explanation of the focus of the lawyer, and some visible star ratings. However, the listings that aren't premium are smaller and require you to click on the profile to get all the details. One benefit we love, though, is that Justia offers peer reviews, so if a lawyer has received praise from another lawyer in his or her field, that feedback will be available through Justia as well.
Most lawyers offer contingent fees
Justia, like most database sites in our review, is free to use. The company makes its money from the law offices themselves who pay for promotions on the website among other helpful services. In terms of costs for securing a car accident lawyer, you can see on the scrolling listings who offers a free consultation. If you click through to the full profiles, you'll be able to see which lawyers offer contingent fees (which means you don't pay until you win). Most of the Justia lawyers we reviewed worked on a contingent fee schedule.
Not a lot of buzz for Justia
Justia offers star ratings for every one of the car accident lawyers on its platform. However, some of these can be limited. Certain lawyers only have one or two total reviews. The ratings on Justia are out of 5 stars, rated on 10 criteria points. We didn't see any lawyers on the platform with anything less than 5 stars. These may be curated as part of paid programs, but it isn't clear from the site or third-party reviews. Justia currently holds an "A+” rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, but its reputation is more balanced on third-party review sites like Trustpilot where it has only 3.7 stars. At the moment, it seems that Justia is not particularly popular, as it's hard to find more than a handful of reviews for this database site overall.
Needs more feedback and transparency
Justia is a solid database with a lot of car accident lawyers to sift through, but we had three small concerns. First, when you filter the site, the number of lawyers doesn't change, so it can be hard to narrow the field and find the best lawyer for you. Second, the ratings are all uniformly 5 stars, and there's no indication of whether these reviews are curated or not. Finally, there is very little buzz for Justia on third-party review sites. So, despite an "A+” rating from the BBB, it earns a more balanced score in our review.
Law Info is a legal database that offers a list of Lead Counsel Verified attorneys. This is a free verification that requires attorneys to prove that they have professional experience in the area of practice they are advertising and are currently in good standing with the state's attorney governing authority. It's like a mini background check to make sure car accident lawyers are reliable. Law Info is part of a larger online legal network that includes Abogado (for Spanish-speaking attorneys).
Tons of lawyers but no way to filter
To find car accident lawyers in your area, Law Info just asks that you put in your preferred legal issue and your location. Law Info's results for our local city included 420 different lawyers and practices to choose from. Unfortunately, there was no way to filter the results, making for a very long scrolling process. However, the listings are helpful and offer details like whether or not Law Info lawyers are rated by an external service (Super Lawyers, which is also part of our review), and whether or not each lawyer is verified by the Lead Counsel.
Only promoted listings get full details
On top of showing the qualifications for lawyers, Law Info offers contact details, how many years of experience car accident lawyers have, nearby offices, and access to a phone number and website. Some of the listings on Law Info are paid promotions. You'll be able to tell them apart because the law offices that didn't pay extra will have more limited listings. However, not all listings show the most important pieces of information, like whether or not a car accident lawyer offers a free consultation or the type of payment they accept.
Some listings don't offer costs at all
Using the database at Law Info is free for you. The company makes its money by charging lawyers who use the platform for advertising and for more featured spots in the results. In terms of costs for securing your car accident lawyer, many attorneys and practices here offer a free consultation, but final details for payment and costs will be determined after that meeting.
Very little verified feedback
Unlike many of the other sites in our review, Law Info doesn't provide star ratings for the car accident lawyers on its platform. If you click on an attorney's profile, you can see client reviews, but these are undated, and don't show any method of verification. Some lawyers do have 20+ individual positive reviews, but we didn't see any negative reviews on the site. The database itself holds an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau, but Law Info lacks third-party reviews on sites like Trustpilot to compare how well customers think the service performs when compared to other car accident lawyer databases.
Verifications aren't enough to keep it competitive
While there are plenty of lawyers on Law Info, and the Lead Counsel verification is a great bonus for showing quality legal assistance, this service falls behind in terms of ways to filter car accident lawyers and providing unfiltered reviews. With no third-party receives available and zero negative reviews for lawyers on the platform, Law Info doesn't stack up against some of the more transparent databases out there. For this reason, it earns just below average, and it could do more to present unbiased ratings for lawyers on its site.
Find Law is a specialized website designed to make law of any kind accessible to everyone. The site does more than just provide a car accident lawyer directory (though it does that too). You can find informative articles that have up-to-date legal information explaining legal practices and processes, blogs with the latest legal news, and a guide to hiring an attorney.
Around 80 local options to choose from
Finding a car accident lawyer at Find Law just requires two pieces of information: what kind of lawyer you're trying to hire and your city. From there, you'll click the "find lawyer” button, and Find Law will show you all of the top car accident lawyers in your area. We were suggested just under 80 car accident lawyers in our city. All of the lawyers had specializations in car accidents and personal injury and offered services in surrounding areas as well.
Not all listings are made the same
The listings for Find Law are pretty standard, but not all of them offer the same key details. Most listings have the law offices listed, an option to call or view the website, and some listings offer features on the bottom like whether or not the car accident lawyer offers free consultations, the number of years of experience a firm or lawyer has, and how many ratings the individual attorney has. However, for many car accident lawyers, you will need to click on the firm profile page to get all the details about potential costs or fees (and even then, you may still need to have the consultation to learn about a lawyer's fee schedule). Since Find Law does offer paid promotions on its website, the lawyers who are sponsored will have a little mallet symbol next to the law office or lawyer's name.
No payments to use the database
Find Law is free to use and generally makes its money through marketing solutions for lawyers. It offers attorney websites, website promos, video services, and online advertising for legal professionals. This way, the costs are zero for customers looking to hire a car accident lawyer. However, you will need to complete the consultation with the individual car accident lawyer or law office to learn the final prices, but Find Law does list which options offer free consultations.
Reviews for lawyers may be biased
While there are some reviews available for the lawyers on Find Law, these are pretty minimal compared to other sites that rate the car accident lawyers on their platforms. For example, several of our top suggested lawyers had 5-star ratings, but there were only one or two total reviews to check out. At the time of our review, Find Law itself was not rated by the Better Business Bureau and it only held a 3.5-star average on Trustpilot. The main complaint from customers is that the filtering for reviews on Find Law feels dishonest. Reviews are only posted if the lawyer or firm agrees, and some customers rightly think that this process is biased. Further, some reviewers said that the final prices for hiring lawyers from this platform were costly.
Needs more review transparency
While this is a great site if you want lots of legal resources, Find Law may not be the most transparent database for finding reliable car accident lawyers. Find Law has received criticism for filtering reviews to make lawyers on the platform look better, and customers aren't thrilled with the high costs of securing legal help from lawyers on this platform either. While it's a decent service if you want to learn more about the legal process, you might find more reliable ratings and reviews from other car accident law platforms.
Avvo is a website that was designed by lawyer Mark Britton to make finding legal help simpler for everyone who needs it. Based in Seattle, Washington, Avvo is a database-style website that offers detailed information on car accident lawyers so you can choose the best fit. Avvo claims to have 97% of all licensed lawyers in the US available through its database. On top of that, you can also expect self-help articles with over 17 million searchable legal Q&A options on Avvo, and if your question isn't in their database, you'll get a free answer from a lawyer in a few hours.
Search your local area for lawyers
To get started, you just need to put in your location and type in the kind of lawyer you prefer in the search bar. Then, Avvo will show you a scrolling list with the number of lawyers who practice your area of law. For car accident lawyers, we were suggested nine that live in our area. If you want to see more options, you can look for car accident lawyers through "personal injury” which turns up more results.
See every lawyer's case percentages
The only downside to Avvo is that the consistency between car accident lawyer listings is all over the place. Most listings have the name of the lawyer or firm, a star rating through Avvo, reviews, and areas of specialization listed. However, profile details like pricing/fees and lawyer biographies are sometimes missing on certain profiles. What we do like is to see how much of each type of case each lawyer works. For example, one lawyer in our area had 30% of his cases for car accidents, while another had 70% of his cases for car accidents.
Free use for Avvo
There are zero costs for using Avvo as a database. However, depending on the car accident lawyer you choose, there may be differences in fees or payment styles. Most of the lawyers on the platform offer a free consultation for the first 30-60 minutes. This can be done in person or virtually in some cases. While most listings state that the fees for car accident cases are contingency fees (usually between 33%-40%), others have hourly rates listed starting around $350 per hour. Since not all of the profiles are the same, some of the car accident lawyers don't list any fees beyond the free consultation notice. So, you will need to complete the consultation to learn more or go with one of the lawyers who has a more transparent profile.
Concerning reports of scams
Regrettably, Avvo has a dismal reputation online. According to the Better Business Bureau, Avvo holds an "F” rating for failing to respond to some of the 44 complaints filed against the business in recent years. On third-party review sites like Trustpilot, Avvo holds just 1.2 stars out of 5. According to recent reviews, Avvo is accused of posting fake reviews or at least severely tailoring the visible reviews so people who lose cases are not able to share their experiences regarding bad car accident lawyers. There are frequent complaints about lawyers who lied to individuals and then lost their cases, and many of the posted reviews use the word "scam” or "fraudulent” regarding the lawyer profiles.
Not worth the risk of losing your case
While Avvo is free to use, it may not be worth your time. The concerning practice of tailoring reviews that omit bad experiences is a huge red flag, especially with reports on third-party sites of many individuals who sought lawyers (car accident lawyers and other kinds) on Avvo and lost their cases. With almost uniformly low reviews on sites outside of Avvo itself and an "F” rating from the BBB, there's nothing to recommend Avvo over other car accident lawyer databases in our review.
Some of the top reasons people secure a car accident lawyer for their situation include an accident with serious or catastrophic injuries (like back injuries or concussions/brain damage); being hit by a driver that was uninsured or had limited insurance coverage; the other driver disputes being at fault for the accident or claims you were at fault; and needing help with insurance claims. In all cases, your lawyer will help you get the compensation you need to cover your medical expenses, injuries, and more.
So, what does your car accident lawyer do? For injury claims, a lawyer can help you seek medical care, get compensation for lost wages if you can't work, and get payment for ongoing care depending on the severity of your accident. For other cases like being hit by an uninsured driver or disputed liability, the lawyer can help you build a case against the other driver to protect your rights and get your compensation. If you're just easily stressed out by dealing with insurance companies, your car accident lawyer will interface with your insurance company, so you don't have to worry about anything.
The bottom line is that your car accident lawyer works for you, and he or she will work hard to find and pursue all avenues for compensation. Some that might surprise you outside of damages to your car and medical expenses include pain, suffering, and emotional stress - which are ways to get further compensation than if you just went through your insurance company by yourself.
The best part? You don't have to pay out of pocket for attorney services. The best car accident lawyers out there will typically get paid a "contingency fee”. This means your lawyer won't get paid unless they secure a settlement for you. The fee is a percentage of the total amount you receive for winning your case. This is typically between 33% and 40%, and it will be decided and discussed with your lawyer before securing the service.
So, if you're looking for a way to take the stress out of a recent car accident for yourself or a loved one, getting a car accident lawyer to help you through the weeds is ideal.
