When we completed the search for our local city, there were two law firms suggested for car accident lawyers. One had 250 awards through Best Lawyers and the other 613. The profile pages include the list of all practicing lawyers at a firm, the locations it operates in, the areas of practice, and news about that firm. Justia helps firms grow their practices, and you benefit from its free legal resources including the database portal, a lawyer directory, and articles on recent laws and regulations. Keep in mind, though, that the car accident lawyers are all under "personal injury” at Justia, so while you're browsing, you'll need to use that terminology instead.

To find car accident lawyers in your area, you can search by state or city depending on how specific you'd like your results. We used our local city which gave us 451 listings for car accident (personal injury) lawyers. You can limit your listings by preferred injury type, lawyer rating, whether or not the lawyers offer video conferencing and more. Oddly, when we added filters, the number of lawyers in our results didn't change. It was all uniformly 451 car accident lawyers. However, the order in which lawyers appeared changed.

More comprehensive listings for lawyers who pay

The listings on Justia have some helpful features. First, there's a save and compare tool, so if you see any lawyers you like, you can come back to them later and compare your top picks. Second, some of the Justia lawyers have paid promotions. These are listed at the top under the header "sponsored listings” and will have a "premium” ribbon added to the photo of the lawyer on the listing. All the listings have the phone number of the car accident lawyer, a brief explanation of the focus of the lawyer, and some visible star ratings. However, the listings that aren't premium are smaller and require you to click on the profile to get all the details. One benefit we love, though, is that Justia offers peer reviews, so if a lawyer has received praise from another lawyer in his or her field, that feedback will be available through Justia as well.

If you click through to the full profiles, you'll be able to see which lawyers offer contingent fees (which means you don't pay until you win). Most of the Justia lawyers we reviewed worked on a contingent fee schedule.

Not a lot of buzz for Justia

This is a free verification that requires attorneys to prove that they have professional experience in the area of practice they are advertising and are currently in good standing with the state's attorney governing authority. It's like a mini background check to make sure car accident lawyers are reliable. Law Info is part of a larger online legal network that includes Abogado (for Spanish-speaking attorneys).

Tons of lawyers but no way to filter

To find car accident lawyers in your area, Law Info just asks that you put in your preferred legal issue and your location. Law Info's results for our local city included 420 different lawyers and practices to choose from. Unfortunately, there was no way to filter the results, making for a very long scrolling process. However, the listings are helpful and offer details like whether or not Law Info lawyers are rated by an external service (Super Lawyers, which is also part of our review), and whether or not each lawyer is verified by the Lead Counsel.

Only promoted listings get full details

On top of showing the qualifications for lawyers, Law Info offers contact details, how many years of experience car accident lawyers have, nearby offices, and access to a phone number and website. Some of the listings on Law Info are paid promotions. You'll be able to tell them apart because the law offices that didn't pay extra will have more limited listings. However, not all listings show the most important pieces of information, like whether or not a car accident lawyer offers a free consultation or the type of payment they accept.

Finding a car accident lawyer at Find Law just requires two pieces of information: what kind of lawyer you're trying to hire and your city. From there, you'll click the "find lawyer” button, and Find Law will show you all of the top car accident lawyers in your area. We were suggested just under 80 car accident lawyers in our city. All of the lawyers had specializations in car accidents and personal injury and offered services in surrounding areas as well.

Not all listings are made the same

The listings for Find Law are pretty standard, but not all of them offer the same key details. Most listings have the law offices listed, an option to call or view the website, and some listings offer features on the bottom like whether or not the car accident lawyer offers free consultations, the number of years of experience a firm or lawyer has, and how many ratings the individual attorney has. However, for many car accident lawyers, you will need to click on the firm profile page to get all the details about potential costs or fees (and even then, you may still need to have the consultation to learn about a lawyer's fee schedule). It offers attorney websites, website promos, video services, and online advertising for legal professionals. This way, the costs are zero for customers looking to hire a car accident lawyer. However, you will need to complete the consultation with the individual car accident lawyer or law office to learn the final prices, but Find Law does list which options offer free consultations.

Reviews for lawyers may be biased

While there are some reviews available for the lawyers on Find Law, these are pretty minimal compared to other sites that rate the car accident lawyers on their platforms. For example, several of our top suggested lawyers had 5-star ratings, but there were only one or two total reviews to check out. At the time of our review, Find Law itself was not rated by the Better Business Bureau and it only held a 3.5-star average on Trustpilot. Based in Seattle, Washington, Avvo is a database-style website that offers detailed information on car accident lawyers so you can choose the best fit. Avvo claims to have 97% of all licensed lawyers in the US available through its database. On top of that, you can also expect self-help articles with over 17 million searchable legal Q&A options on Avvo, and if your question isn't in their database, you'll get a free answer from a lawyer in a few hours.

Search your local area for lawyers

To get started, you just need to put in your location and type in the kind of lawyer you prefer in the search bar. Then, Avvo will show you a scrolling list with the number of lawyers who practice your area of law. For car accident lawyers, we were suggested nine that live in our area. If you want to see more options, you can look for car accident lawyers through "personal injury” which turns up more results.

See every lawyer's case percentages

The only downside to Avvo is that the consistency between car accident lawyer listings is all over the place. Most listings have the name of the lawyer or firm, a star rating through Avvo, reviews, and areas of specialization listed. However, profile details like pricing/fees and lawyer biographies are sometimes missing on certain profiles. What we do like is to see how much of each type of case each lawyer works. For example, one lawyer in our area had 30% of his cases for car accidents, while another had 70% of his cases for car accidents.

Free use for Avvo

There are zero costs for using Avvo as a database. However, depending on the car accident lawyer you choose, there may be differences in fees or payment styles. Most of the lawyers on the platform offer a free consultation for the first 30-60 minutes. This can be done in person or virtually in some cases. While most listings state that the fees for car accident cases are contingency fees (usually between 33%-40%), others have hourly rates listed starting around $350 per hour. Since not all of the profiles are the same, some of the car accident lawyers don't list any fees beyond the free consultation notice. So, you will need to complete the consultation to learn more or go with one of the lawyers who has a more transparent profile.

Concerning reports of scams

Regrettably, Avvo has a dismal reputation online. According to recent reviews, Avvo is accused of posting fake reviews or at least severely tailoring the visible reviews so people who lose cases are not able to share their experiences regarding bad car accident lawyers. There are frequent complaints about lawyers who lied to individuals and then lost their cases, and many of the posted reviews use the word "scam” or "fraudulent” regarding the lawyer profiles.

Not worth the risk of losing your case

While Avvo is free to use, it may not be worth your time. The concerning practice of tailoring reviews that omit bad experiences is a huge red flag, especially with reports on third-party sites of many individuals who sought lawyers (car accident lawyers and other kinds) on Avvo and lost their cases. With almost uniformly low reviews on sites outside of Avvo itself and an "F” rating from the BBB, there's nothing to recommend Avvo over other car accident lawyer databases in our review.
