We've analyzed the best Cat Insurance Companies to help you find the right solution for your needs.
Where are the best places to get cat insurance?  Have you ever had to take a furry friend to an unexpected vet visit and been stunned by the cost of care? Cats, dogs, and everything in between need their vet visits sometimes (no matter how well we take care of our pet friends). It's a stressful event no matter what, but especially if you have a cat.
Embrace is a cat insurance provider that promises an experience that's more than "just" insurance. Instead, this company promises that you're becoming part of a pet care family. From personalized plans to quick claims and easy online processing, Embrace has everything all in one place. On top of that, they take the money they make from insurance policies and donate it back - to the tune of over $1.5 million donated to different charities. All of the policies at Embrace are underwritten by American Modern Insurance Group.
Find your custom plan in minutes
Embrace's quote process is similar to many of the cat insurance sites in our review. You need to fill out a brief questionnaire (this should take just a minute or two), and then add your email address. You'll be asked for your pet's name, type, gender, breed, age, and your current location. For our purposes, we used a test pet who is a 6-year-old Siamese male cat. It is optional to put in your phone number for Embrace, so you can complete the quoting process completely online. From there, you'll see a plan designed for your pet, with some options to change out deductibles and reimbursement percentages.
One curated insurance plan
Embrace offered us an Accident and Illness Plan for our cat. There was some customization allowed, but the coverage was impressively complete when compared to similar cost and tier plans at other cat insurance sites. In general, the Accident and Illness Plan includes:
Main plan from $15.14 to $76.14 per month
There wasn't a base "promised" price for cat insurance at Embrace, so we were only able to go off the prices we were quoted with our test pet. The Accident and Illness plan was listed at $15.14 per month at the base level. This includes a $2,000 annual reimbursement limit. $1,000 deductible, and 70% reimbursement percentage. At the high end, you can get an unlimited annual reimbursement, $100 deductible, and 90% reimbursement for $76.14 per month.
Add-ons from $5.48 to $5.84 per month
Embrace also offers some extras that aren't included in the main plan (but there are only two of them; everything else is included). You can add reimbursement for exam fees for covered incidents for $5.48 per month, and coverage for prescription drugs for $5.84 per month. Other than that, everything you can get covered by Embrace is included in the cat insurance plan you're quoted.
Top marks for quick reimbursement
Embrace has a top-notch "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. On top of that, it has a pretty standout reputation on Trustpilot. Currently, Trustpilot holds a 4.1-star average rating out of 5, and over 70% of all reviews are full 5-star ratings. Better yet, most of the recent reviews are a full 5 stars, showing that the positive ratings are the most current experiences. Customers praise the ease of claims, and note that the "process is exemplary and caring." Subscribers also say that the reimbursements are extremely prompt, and the service provider offers examples and tips when signing up, so you know exactly what your cat insurance coverage extends to.
Top pick for affordable and flexible insurance
If you want a cat insurance policy that allows for some flexibility in cost, where you can basically design how much you want to pay, Embrace is going to be a great pick for you. With high marks from reviewers for quick reimbursement and caring customer service, there have been almost no negative reviews in the past 6 months (from the time that we completed our research). With all these benefits and the opportunity for full coverage at a competitively low monthly cost, Embrace earns a high 5-star rating in our review.
On the Embrace website
Pumpkin offers cat insurance that's designed to help you get the care you need with as little cost as possible. Pumpkin is a much newer company in our review: it got started in 2020 when the owners noted that the average cost of vet services was no longer affordable for the average pet owner. Pumpkin believes that cats of all ages and breeds should be able to get cat insurance coverage. They also offer helpful features outside of cat insurance, like a pet grief support group and more. These insurance policies are underwritten by Independence American Insurance Company or United States Fire Insurance Company.
Quick forms for 3 insurance plans
Pumpkin's free quotes are simple and take just a minute to fill out the form. You'll need to fill out the type of pet you have, as well as its breed, age, and gender. You'll also be asked to give your full name, email, and zip code to get your quote. To get a good comparison, we used the same test pet at every cat insurance site: a male Siamese cat that's 6 years old. Pumpkin offered us 3 different plans once we finished filling out the forms.
Three pre-made plans
Pumpkin had three main plans that we could pick from. These are pre-built, but there is a custom plan option, too. The three pre-built tiers include: Just In Case, Peace Of Mind, and Whatever It Takes. These plans are just pre-made versions of the ones you can customize. Just In Case includes a $5,000 annual limit, reimbursement of 80%, and an annual deductible of $1,000. The Peace Of Mind plan includes an annual limit of $7,000, reimbursement of 90%, and an annual deductible of $250. Finally, the Whatever It Takes plan offers an unlimited annual cat insurance coverage option, reimbursement up to 90%, and an annual deductible of $500. The coverage includes accidents, injuries, illnesses, chronic conditions, dental illnesses, behavioral issues, and hereditary conditions.
Plans from $14.99 to $131.51 per month
Pumpkin's pricing for the premade plans ranges from $14.99 to $74.55 per month. However, if you choose the custom plan, you can see the full range of prices. At the low end, Pumpkin's least costly plan is the same as the Just In Case plan ($14.99 per month). At the high end, you can get unlimited annual coverage, 90% reimbursement, and a $100 deductible for a pricey $131.51 per month. This is much higher than most of the cat insurance competitors in our review for similar coverage.
One add-on for $14.95
Despite the higher cost already, Pumpkin still offers add-ons. You can get preventative essentials for an extra $14.95 per month (and you have to commit to a minimum of 12 months). There are no other add-ons, but you can add a second pet (even a dog) for a 10% discount on the total insurance premium.
Impressive reviews across the board
Pumpkin holds an impressive "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. On top of that, this insurer also has a top-notch rating from third-party review sites. At the time of our review, Pumpkin held a 4.8-star average out of 5 stars on Trustpilot. Almost a full 90% of all reviewers gave Pumpkin a full 5 stars in their ratings. Recent reviews praise the company for its fast turnaround on reimbursement and helpful representatives when assistance is needed with a claim. While the price is higher than average, none of the pet owners in recent months even mentioned the cost. They all noted that their cat insurance was worth it, and the coverage made even emergency visits affordable.
Best pick for overall coverage
Pumpkin stands out as a favorite among pet owners as a newer-yet-reliable cat insurance provider. While it's slightly more costly than competitors, it offers full coverage options and top-notch customer service that makes the claims process simple. From emergencies to general Rx medications, Pumpkin is surpassing customers' expectations. For these reasons, it earns a top-notch score in our review. With all the features, Pumpkin is highly competitive and definitely worth a look.

Pet Assure is a cat insurance provider that is one of the smaller sites in our review, but it's also been around for a while. Pet Assure got started serving pets in 1995, and it's also part of the employee benefits space, so if your employer is going to offer pet insurance, odds are this insurer is the one you'll be offered. However, it works a little differently from other cat insurance sites. It isn't underwritten by traditional insurance. Instead, you're signing up for a discount to be applied to your veterinary services (which only works with participating veterinarians).
4 questions and you're all set
Pet Assure's process to get to cat insurance pricing is simple. The company just asks for your zip code, email, and the number of pets you have of each type, and then you're all set. You'll see a monthly and annual price for the same coverage. Remember, this is more of a discount service than traditional insurance, but you can still get some serious savings on your vet bills.
Discounts depend on vet participation
Pet Assure's coverage includes sick visits, wellness care, assistance with pre-existing conditions, no waiting period to use your discounts, and zero deductibles: you just get a discount on your vet bills right away, with no age limits for your pets. One of the benefits we saw is that it specifically covers diabetes management and care, which can be costly for cat owners. You can check if your vet participates in Pet Assure's cat insurance coverage by using the location checker on the website. All of our local veterinarians participated.
Either $9.95 per month or $79 per year
Pet Assure prices you out depending on the number of pets that you have. For a single male cat, we were quoted a monthly cost of $9.95 or an annual cost of $79 (which broke down to $6.58 per month). There are no additional fees for cat insurance after this point, and you won't have to worry about deductibles or limits. You just get a blanket 25% off your costs at the vet office, no questions asked.
No extras offered
Pet Assure doesn't have add-ons or special options since this isn't traditional cat insurance. You're paying for a discount card that you can apply to most of the necessary vet requirements for owning your pet (and even some conditions and testing). You can't add extra coverage since the card is a flat discount, but it does make signing up extremely simple.
Top marks from the BBB
Pet Assure has a stellar "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. However, this company has very few total reviews. For example, on Trustpilot, Pet Assure only has 86 reviews to rely on. 69% of the ratings are a full 5 stars, showing that the majority of pet owners are pretty happy with their discounts here. The negative reviews mostly revolve around the "in-network" confusion. Some pet owners go to other vets (sometimes at their own veterinarian's recommendation) and don't check to see if the new location was part of Pet Assure, so they left frustrated reviews on not getting covered. Those who used their Pet Assure correctly were very happy with the results. Remember, this isn't traditional cat insurance, so it shouldn't be used the same way.
Great deals even for pre-existing conditions
Pet Assure is a great alternative to costly cat insurance policies by offering you a flat fee for a flat discount. All of the covered services and in-network veterinarians are listed on Pet Assure's website for easy access. While you won't get as much off the cost of your vet bills at Pet Assure as you might with traditional insurance, there are no blocks based on pre-existing conditions, and the blanket discount works with most general vet visit necessities and more advanced options, including some surgeries and complex conditions like diabetes. So, if you're just looking for a way to save on your vet bills (or you've got a kitty with a pre-existing condition), Pet Assure is a great opportunity to save on your cat insurance.

Spot's cat insurance is one of the pet insurance options offered for keeping your furry family members happy and healthy. With the flexibility to choose your own coverage options, you can control exactly how much you spend, and with no upper age limit for your cats, you can take care of them into their grumpy old kitty years, too. Spot is underwritten by the United States Fire Insurance Company, who stands behind several of the cat insurance providers on our list.
You'll have to wade through some non-insurance offers first
Spot is an interesting choice for cat insurance, as it does much more than offer discounts on your vet bills. Joining Spot offers you perks and discounts across the board (which are listed before finding out your quote). You can get discounts at Bark, The Farmers Dog, Rover, Sam's Club, Sundays for Dogs, Koala, and DogTV when you get a cat insurance policy at Spot. Once you've seen those, you'll fill out the standard form to get your quote. Spot asks for your pet's name, age, gender, type, breed, and then your zip code, name, and email address to get started. To keep the numbers similar to other cat insurance providers, we used the same test cat: a male Siamese that's 6 years old.
Pick from two kinds of coverage
Spot offers two cat insurance plan types: Accident + Illness and Accident Only. Accident Only includes vet exam fees for accidents, surgery, specialized treatments, cuts, bite wounds, insect stings, diagnostics, prescriptions, medications, swallowed objects, and broken bones. The Accident + Illness includes all of the same items as Accident Only, as well as breed-specific and genetic conditions, dental illnesses, cancer, chronic conditions, and orthopedic conditions.
Plans from $3.79 to $126.50 per month
Spot's cat insurance pricing is flexible within both types of plans. Accident Only starts at a $2,000 annual limit, a 70% reimbursement rate, and an annual deductible of $1,000, which costs just $3.79 per month. At the high end, you'll get unlimited annual coverage, 90% reimbursement, and a $100 annual deductible. This costs $45.73 per month. If you'd like Accident + Illness coverage, the low end (with the same features as the low end of Accident Only) costs $10.47 per month, while the high end (with the same features as the high end of Accident Only) costs $126.50 per month.
Add-ons from $9.11 to $23.04 per month
Spot offers two levels of add-ons to the cat insurance for preventative care. Gold level includes up to $250 a year in benefits for procedures, tests, exams, deworming, and vaccines. This costs an additional $9.11 per month. If you go with the higher tier (Platinum), you'll get more features, including additional tests and exams, flea and heartworm prevention, and extra vaccines. This option costs $23.04 per month extra.
Solid coverage, but customers find costs too high
Spot has a stellar reputation, no matter where you look. It currently holds an "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. On top of that, it has earned a 4.7-star rating out of 5 on Trustpilot. Currently 85% of all reviews for Spot are a full 5 stars, with tons of reviews (even some posted within minutes of our research). Customers agree that submitting a claim at Spot is fast and easy. However, there are some recent complaints about the high cost of the insurance when compared to other cat insurance plans on the market. While most customers love that they have their procedures covered by Spot, the main complaint that keeps reviewers from giving Spot a full 5 stars in the last few months is the high cost.
Solid coverage but a little pricey
Spot is competitive with other high-cost coverage options on the market, but if you're looking for the most affordable cat insurance, this won't be your first pick. However, it is a competitive choice for complete coverage (even for chronic conditions like feline diabetes). For these reasons, it earns a very competitive score in our review. Especially considering the rave reviews from most customers, you'll still want to check Spot out. Maybe you can find a balance of price and features that works for your budget.

Nationwide is a popular choice for insurance of all kinds. Known best for its home and auto insurance plans, Nationwide also offers cat insurance for your furry family members. Nationwide stands out by offering "more coverage for your cat than you'll find anywhere else." Plans at Nationwide also start lower than any other site we've seen (as low as $6 per month, depending on your location). So, if you're looking for deals (and possibly to bundle with your existing Nationwide insurance), Nationwide is worth a look for your cat insurance, too.
Longer and more detailed questionnaire
Nationwide's quote process starts by asking you some quick questions about your location, your type of pet, as well as the breed, age, and gender of your cat. There are more questions at Nationwide than we've seen at other cat insurance sites in our review, including whether or not your cat is neutered/spayed, when you first got your cat, whether s/he has tested positive for feline leukemia or feline immunodeficiency virus, and whether or not you've been insured with Nationwide before. We used a test cat for the questionnaire: a 6-year-old male Siamese. Afterward, we were provided three side-by-side plans for cat insurance.
Pick from three types of plans
The three plans offered by Nationwide include Accident Coverage, Accident and Illness Coverage, and Customizable Coverage. The Accident Coverage plan includes a $250 deductible, reimbursement up to 70% of the total, and an annual max of $5,000 for accidents. There is no coverage for illness or general wellness with this plan. The Accident and Illness Coverage plan includes the same features, plus a $5,000 annual max coverage for illnesses. This also does not include wellness. The Custom plan is the only one that offers $450 in annual wellness benefits.
Plans from $7.48 to $63.91 per month
Nationwide's cat insurance pricing depends on which plan you choose. The Accident Coverage and Accident and Illness Coverage plans are both set, so the prices start at $7.48 per month for Accident Coverage, and they go up to $36.28 per month for Accident and Illness Coverage. If you edit the coverage for the Custom option, you can choose lower reimbursement options or higher deductibles to change the overall cost. The full range of prices at Nationwide ranges starts at $24.96 per month if you use the lowest option for all features, including illness and wellness ($1,000 deductible, 50% reimbursement, $2,500 annual max for accident, $5,000 annual max for illness, and $50 annual max for wellness). If you want the top-tier coverage, you'll get a $250 deductible, 80% reimbursement, $5,000 annual max for accident, $10,000 annual max for illness, and $800 annual max for wellness. This option costs $63.91 per month.
Only add-on is wellness
Nationwide's wellness coverage is technically an add-on, though it's part of the custom cat insurance plan. You can take it off, which will reduce your overall costs up to $20 per month, depending on the tier of wellness coverage you chose. If you decide to add a second pet, you can get the premium at a 5% discount.
Mixed reviews but competitive reputation
Nationwide as a whole has earned an "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. We were also able to find the pet branch, specifically on Trustpilot, to see how its cat insurance services stack up. Nationwide's pet insurance branch currently holds an impressive 4.4-star average rating out of 5. However, recent reviews are somewhat mixed. Those who loved their experience at Nationwide praised the company for how easy it was to sign up. On the other hand, some subscribers have issues logging into accounts for claims. On the bright side, many policyholders said they were pleasantly surprised to get more reimbursement than they expected with Nationwide.
A reliable choice with a history of solid insurance
Nationwide is a solid choice if you want a very established insurance provider. Plus, if you're already insured through Nationwide for your own health, home, or auto insurance, it may be extra easy and reliable to stick with the same company for all your insurance needs. Nationwide offers reasonable prices and all-inclusive packages that don't break the bank. Even with add-ons like wellness coverage included, you can find plans for comparable (or lower) costs than with rivals' cat insurance policies. So, Nationwide earns a competitive rating in our review for its reliability and pricing.

Fetch is a company that offers cat insurance policies throughout the US and Canada. You can enjoy coverage for everything from vet visits to dental work, depending on your plan. The cat insurance with Fetch is underwritten by AXIS Insurance Company, and you can start using your coverage for cats as young as 6 weeks old, which is much younger than many cat insurance competitors will allow.
Fill out a few questions and see your quote
Fetch's quoting system is similar to other cat insurance sites in our review: you fill out a quick form and get your quote online in minutes. Fetch will ask you for your cat's name, type, breed, age, your zipcode, and your email to get your quote. For our comparison, we used a test cat who was a male 6-year-old Siamese. When we finished our form, Fetch offered one plan designed for our test cat. But, you are able to customize your price slightly, which can help if you need to keep costs down.
One plan for all emergencies
Fetch's plan is a complete coverage option that includes all vets (any within the US and Canada). The cat insurance plan we were offered covered costs for things like:
There are so many different treatment options included in the cat insurance at Fetch, it's easy to see exactly which circumstances will be covered (including motor vehicle accidents, swallowed objects, or allergies for your pet). Only routine or preventative care is not covered by the plan.
Main plan from $37.26 to $84.69
Fetch's plan for our test cat was quoted at $37.26 per month at the low end. This option included a $5,000 maximum for annual reimbursement, a $400 deductible, and a 70% reimbursement rate. At the top end, you can expect $15,000 maximum annual reimbursement, a $250 deductible, and 90% reimbursement for $84.69 per month. This is notably more costly than similar plans at other cat insurance sites (including those that offer an unlimited annual reimbursement option).
Only one add-on included for $15.78
Fetch offers a single add-on to your primary plan. This will include an additional cost of $15.78 per month (on top of the monthly premiums of your main plan). This add-on includes routine and preventative coverage, so you can get your cat insurance to cover things like vaccines and annual exams. This includes an annual limit of $315 more in reimbursement.
Worth the cost, according to reviews
Fetch has an impressive "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. On top of that, it has a highly competitive 4.5-star average rating out of 5 on Trustpilot. 80% of all reviews for Fetch are a full 5 stars, and most of the reviews left in the past few months were also a full 5 stars. Customers praised the insurance options at Fetch and noted that the customer service reps were informative and efficient. The app is notably easy to use, and customers loved that the reimbursement was fast and efficient. In general, pet owners love their experience at this cat insurance company, despite the slightly higher costs.
Supportive customer service
Fetch is a solid choice if you want full-coverage cat insurance to ensure that any emergency is protected. While the costs are slightly higher for the same coverage as other cat insurance sites, the early access to insurance for 6-week-old kittens and competitive customer service are high points that keep cat owners coming back year after year. For these reasons, Fetch earns a competitive rating in our review.
On the Fetch website
Lemonade is a cat insurance site that promises to tailor its policies and coverage for your specific feline friend. The company offers customizable health coverage for both cats and dogs, and you can usually expect claims to be paid within 48 hours. Lemonade underwrites its own insurance, using AI-powered data collection to offer the best plan for your needs. It also has some pretty low waiting periods for using your coverage: you have 2 days for accidents and 14 days for most illnesses.
Slightly glitchy AI assistant
Lemonade's pricing is easy to get to, but you'll have to make an account first. And, the process is a little slower than some of the other cat insurance providers in our review. Instead of letting you fill out a pre-existing form, you have a "chat" with an AI that asks you questions one by one. You'll be asked for your name, the number of pets, your pet's name (or names), what type of animal you have, your exact address (whereas most sites only ask for your zip code), and the gender/age/breed of your cat. However, when we finished filling out the first few questions, the AI assistant seemed to glitch (it typed out a series of nonsensical numbers and letters in several lines before deleting them, and typing out "Sorry"....odd.). Then it continued by asking if our test cat was the first we've ever owned, and how many other pets are living with us. To get the same numbers across different cat insurance providers, we used a test cat that was a Siamese 6-year-old male for our test purposes.
One plan with flexible coverage
Lemonade offered us a single cat insurance plan that included diagnostics, procedures, and medications all in one. You can also go through and change the coverage amounts after you've seen the first option that's offered by Lemonade's AI. You can choose from deductible amounts of $250 to $750, reimbursement percentages from 60%-90%, and annual limits from $5,000 to $100,000. This will cover diagnostics like blood tests, X-rays, MRIs, lab work, CT scans, and ultrasounds, outpatient, specialty, and emergency care procedures, hospitalization, surgery, and injections or prescription medication.
Pricing per plan from $22.88 to $44.76 per month
The original plan we were suggested by Lemonade was $22.88 per month. However, after playing with the customizations a bit, we found a full price range at Lemonade. The lowest price for cat insurance starts at $12 per month with a $750 deductible, 60% reimbursement rate, and an annual limit of $5,000. The highest tier includes a $100 deductible, a 90% reimbursement range, and a $100,000 annual limit. This option costs $44.76 per month, which was a highly competitive price compared to other similar tiers of cat insurance.
Add-ons from $3.33 to $18.22 per month extra
Lemonade offers extras on top of the general cat insurance, like vet visit fee coverage, and this costs $8.56 per month in addition to your other fees. This will cover the fees for exams for illness and accident checkups. You can also add a physical therapy fee coverage for $3.33 per month extra. Finally, if you'd like help with routine vet visits, you can get coverage for that for $11 per month (which includes 1 wellness exam per year, 3 vaccines, 1 parasite test, 1 heartworm test, and 1 blood test) or an $18.22 per month option that includes all the previous tests plus routine dental cleaning and flea/tick or heartworm medication.
Concerns about too much AI
Lemonade currently holds a "B-" rating from the Better Business Bureau, mostly because it has a large number of complaints (over 500) filed against it on the BBB site. On the bright side, Lemonade has a solid 4.1-star average rating out of 5 on Trustpilot, but recent reviews are mixed between 1- and 5-star ratings overall. While some customers love how easy and fast it is to submit a cat insurance claim with this provider, other customers were confused by the constant bot chat. Many of the complaints included frustrations about being unable to talk to a real person at Lemonade. Some customers also had trouble canceling memberships due to talking in circles with the chatbots. Despite the fact that many pet owners were still happy with the coverage and service, there is a general lack of a human touch at Lemonade.
Best for those comfy with AI assistants
Lemonade stands out from the pack with reasonable prices for cat insurance and fast claims. However, if you're looking for a site where you can talk to a real customer service rep rather than AI chat, you might be disappointed by Lemonade: almost everything at this company is handled by AI. If you're not a fan, you might want to shop around, but if you're okay with a little high-tech in your insurance, you can get very reasonable rates, especially since Lemonade underwrites its own policies.
On the Lemonade website
Pets Best is a cat insurance provider that provides coverage for the unexpected situations that might arise with pet ownership. Whether you have a cat or a kitten, this insurance has flexible policies that promise protection for your furry family members. This cat insurance option was founded in 2005, and it was acquired by Independence Pet Holdings in 2019. The policies for all pet types (cats and dogs) are underwritten by American Pet Insurance Company.
Quick side-by-side plan comparison
Pets Best's free quotes are simple and can be completely handled online. You put in your pet's name, age, pet type (dog or cat), gender, breed, and your primary veterinarian. After that, you just need to sign up with your email to get your quote. (To make sure the comparison points were the same at every cat insurance site, we used a test cat that is a 6-year-old male Siamese.) From there, you'll be able to select from the side-by-side plans offered at Pets Best. Unlike some rival cat insurance sites in our review that have one custom option, Pets Best offers three plans as well as some flexibility on the final cost.
3 kinds of insurance offered
Pets Best offers three plans: Essential, Plus, and Elite. The main differences between the three are what extras you get in your cat insurance coverage. The Essential plan covers accidents, illnesses, cancer, hereditary conditions, emergency care, surgeries, and medications. Plus includes everything in Essential and also covers accident and illness exam fees. Finally, the Elite plan includes rehab care, acupuncture, and chiropractic. Within these, you have some flexibility on annual limit, deductible, and reimbursement percentages.
Plan pricing from $7.15 to $45.42 per month
Pets Best offers three cat insurance plans, and you can edit the coverage amounts within those plans. At the low end, you can find pricing for an annual limit of $5,000, an annual deductible of $1,000, and a reimbursement level of 70%. With these features, Essential is $7.15 per month, Plus is $7.86 per month, and Elite is $7.98 per month. At the highest level, you can select an unlimited annual limit, an annual deductible of $100, and a reimbursement level of 90%. With this plan, you'll have Essential at $40.71 per month, Plus at $44.74 per month, and Elite at $45.42 per month.
Add-ons from $18.68 to $28.20
Pets Best offers a few add-ons for its cat insurance. You can get Best Wellness for checkups and preventative care for $28.20 per month, or just essential wellness which offers the same features but slightly less coverage per treatment at $18.68 per month. You can start using your insurance within 3 days for accidents, and within 14 days for illnesses.
Mixed feedback, but overall a reliable choice
Pets Best, regrettably, holds a "D-" rating from the Better Business Bureau. However, third-party review sites with verified feedback show a slightly better story. Currently, Pets Best has a 4-star average out of 5 on Trustpilot. In general, customers feel that Pets Best is a straightforward and reliable cat insurance option. On the other hand, there are some complaints about some of the claims being a bit slow. There are also some frustrations about the mobile app being harder to use since the updates in 2025, but most customers still feel that they're getting a good deal. We didn't find any complaints about the yearly deductible rather than a per-service deductible, either.
Competitive pricing with yearly deductible
Pets Best is a reliable choice, and it offers competitive pricing per month for unlimited annual coverage. However, with a yearly deductible, this will work a bit differently than some of the other cat insurance you may be used to. It works for most customers, but you should be aware that your first few services that fall within your deductible may not be covered right away. But with low annual deductible options, you can easily start seeing support from Pets Best as early as $100 into the year. With the benefits in mind (and despite a "D-" rating from the BBB), Pets Best earns a decent rating in our review.
On the Pets Best website
Figo is a cat insurance site that is designed by pet owners for pet owners, promising that they're setting up fewer barriers between you and your pet's necessary coverage. All of the cat insurance at Figo is US-based, but you can choose any vet worldwide if your pet has an emergency outside of the country. As an added benefit, all of the team members at Figo are licensed by P&C, so they are qualified to give you expert advice if you need it. Figo's cat insurance is underwritten by Independence American Insurance Company (IAIC.)
Quick look at your plan options
Figo's quote process is simple. You fill out a similar page for cat insurance that we've seen at most pet insurance providers: your pet's name, type, gender, and age, as well as your zip code and your email address. For our comparison between different cat insurance providers, we used the same test cat: a 6-year-old Siamese male cat for pricing. Once you finish filling out the form, you'll be offered a few different plans that include a popular choice, higher coverage, and a better value. You can also create a custom plan if you prefer.
Pick from three premade plans or one custom
Figo offers three main plans and a custom plan depending on how much you want to spend. The Popular Plan offers 80% of fees reimbursed up to $10,000 per year and a $250 deductible. If you're looking for more help, the Higher Coverage plan includes 90% of approved vet medical costs with no coverage cap per year, and a $500 deductible. Finally, the Value Plus option is for those looking to save a little money. This offers 70% coverage for reimbursement, medical costs up to $10,000 per year, and a $500 deductible. If none of these pre-made plans cut it for your cat, you can choose a custom cat insurance option. This allows you to pick between different annual coverage options, deductibles, and reimbursement options. Some of the plans (if you choose a higher deductible) will even offer 100% coverage for your pet's costs.
Plans range from $7.76 to $70.53 per month
Figo's pricing depends on what you want in terms of cat insurance coverage. We used the custom builder to see all possible prices at Figo. At the base level, you can get $2,000 in annual reimbursement, with a $750 deductible and 70% reimbursement for the lowest cost of $7.76 per month. If you want more comprehensive coverage, the top tier is unlimited annual coverage, a $100 deductible, and 90% reimbursement. This option costs $70.53 per month. Now, if you go one tier down in the annual coverage to $10,000 per year, and choose between the $500 deductible or $750 deductible, you can get 100% of your costs reimbursed. This is $39.18 to $47.25 per month depending on if you choose a $500 or $750 deductible.
Add-ons from $9.64 to $16.50 per month
Figo offers two add-ons if you want something extra to supplement the existing cat insurance. You can choose to add on Vet Exam Fees for $9.64 per month. This includes all of the associated fees for vet visits. The second add-on is a Wellness package, which includes vaccines, spay/neuter fees, bloodwork, heartworm, and other preventative care. This costs an extra $16.50 per month.
Some owners have trouble getting reimbursement
Figo currently holds a decent "B" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. It also seems to have a slightly middle-tier rating from third-party review sites: Figo shows a 3.7-star average out of 5 stars on Trustpilot, for example. Overall, the reviews are more mixed with this cat insurance provider than with others that land higher on our list. Happy customers love the ease of submitting claims using the app and quick reimbursement. However, those who left negative reviews in recent weeks noted that the Wellness plan has unlisted limits that left customers paying for much more of their vet visit than expected. Others said that Figo was difficult to get claims accepted, and that the company "tries to find a way to reject your claim." While not everyone has this experience, and it could depend on the pet type, there are more of these kinds of reviews in recent months than with Figo's competitors.
May need extra work to confirm coverage
Figo has some decent offerings for cat insurance, but overall, there are some issues with how reliable it is for submitting claims. Some customers have been left with high and unexpected vet bills that they thought would be covered by Figo. While the flexibility in cost is great, and the option for 100% coverage is a standout feature, you might need to double-check that the service you're expecting to need at your vet is covered by your plan before you commit to Figo.

ASPCA is a cat insurance option from an organization that's been working to support pets and pet owners since 1997 (the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). The ASPCA Health Insurance branch is a slightly different area of the same pet-loving group you've heard of for years. The ASPCA cat insurance policies are offered by PTZ Insurance Agency, Ltd., and include a range of Complete Coverage options, so you can make sure your kitty friends are healthy and happy.
Find your options quickly
ASPCA lets you start browsing your cat insurance options with one quick click. You just need to enter your pet's name and click the "get a quote" button. From there, you'll be asked to fill out a quick questionnaire including your pet type, your zip code, pet age, gender, breed, and your email address. During our process, we used a test pet: an adult male Siamese cat (6 years old). After filling out the required details, we were offered two insurance options: Complete coverage and Accident-Only coverage. There were only two plans for main coverage, plus two options for optional Preventive Care plans.
Two coverage types and several add-ons
ASPCA specifically offers Complete coverage plans. These include cat insurance benefits like diagnostics (X-rays, MRIs, blood tests, urinalysis, and ultrasounds), vet procedures (intravenous fluid, stitches, and surgeries), hospitalization costs for overnight visits, and prescription medications. ASPCA also offers Accident-Only coverage, which includes new injuries and emergencies related to accidents. In addition, you can find Preventive Care coverage, which offers you reimbursement for wellness, dental, deworming, vaccinations, heartworm, and fecal tests.
Complete coverage from $21.94 to $65.39 per month
According to the site's advertising, Complete coverage for cat insurance starts as low as $8 per month. In our area, the prices depended on what you wanted to add to your plan; however, the base price for Complete coverage for our test cat was $21.94 per month. This included a $2,500 annual limit for reimbursement and a $500 deductible. At the top end ($10,000 annual limit, and $100 deductible), it was $65.30 per month. The Accident-Only plan starts at $7.93 per month ($2,500 limit with $500 deductible), making it much more affordable. If you want better coverage for accidents, the monthly cost is $32.59 per month (with a $10,000 limit and $100 deductible).
Add-ons from $7.85 to $19.75 per month
ASPCA offers add-ons for Preventive Care. You can choose from Basic or Prime depending on which features you'd like. Basic offers a maximum annual benefit of $250 in reimbursement for wellness exams, dental cleaning, deworming, DHLPP vaccine, rabies vaccine, heartworm tests, and fecal tests. The Prime option offers $450 in annual reimbursement for all the same features as Basic, plus reimbursement on flea/heartworm medication, health certificates, blood tests, and urinalysis. Basic costs $7.85 per month, and Prime is $19.75 per month, and you can add these on to either the Complete coverage or Accident-Only cat insurance plans.
Nitpicky about what is and isn't covered
The insurance branch of ASPCA doesn't have a page with the Better Business Bureau, but we were able to find the insurance agency that handles the cat insurance policies for the ASPCA. PTZ Insurance Agency Ltd. currently holds a full "A+" rating and accreditation from the BBB. The reviews on third-party sites like Trustpilot are also competitive. ASPCA currently holds a 3.6-star average out of 5, with over 70% of all reviews showing a full 5-star rating. There are some mixed reviews for ASPCA recently, though. Pet owners who liked their experiences at ASPCA said that the customer service was stellar, and the website and mobile app are both very user-friendly for claims and reimbursement. However, others had trouble with ASPCA arguing about injuries and care coverage due to pet breeds and other "technicalities." For example, one customer's pet was injured in an accident (the customer had the Accident-Only insurance plan), and ASPCA refused coverage due to the breed of the pet being "likely to have leg injuries." There are other recent reviews with similar complaints, showing that ASPCA's cat insurance may be declining in recent years.
May have to argue for your coverage
ASPCA is a trusted non-profit, known for protecting animals of all kinds. While its cat insurance is easy to find and compare prices with a user-friendly site and app, the company's nitpicky approach to what is and isn't covered by the cat insurance plans (and dog insurance in some cases) is frustrating to customers who don't wind up having their pets' care covered at all due to these technicalities. For this reason, ASPCA earns a slightly below-average rating in our review. You want cat insurance that will care about your pet as much as you do, and it sounds like ASPCA is not the one for that. But, if you like the low prices, the coverage may be helpful for those who aren't too worried about major medical issues.

Trupanion is a cat insurance provider that claims to be the #1 choice for pet insurance when asking vets in the US. The company was founded in 1998, and this cat insurance provider is known for offering zero payout limits. You can use your Trupanion anywhere, but at some "in-network" animal hospitals, the insurance company will pay vets directly rather than having to wait for reimbursement. All of the plans are underwritten by Trupanion itself. However, our research shows it falls a little flat in terms of value.
Long loading times, but easy quotes
Trupanion's cat insurance quote process is simple. You'll be asked just a few quick questions, including the name, breed, age, and gender of your cat. Then, you'll be asked for your zip code and email to get your quote. For our research, we used a test pet that was a 6-year-old male Siamese cat. After the basic questions, Trupanion got a little more detailed, asking about whether or not your cat is spayed or neutered, if your cat is a therapy pet, and who your primary vet is. From there, you'll see your cat insurance quote. The process took about 5 minutes for us because of some long loading times on the Trupanion website.
One plan with medium coverage
Trupanion cat insurance only offers one type of coverage, which the company calls "Uncapped." From here, you can play with the deductible cost to get a better premium overall. The other parts of the plan (including payout limits and payout percentages) are not editable at Trupanion. The plan covers hereditary conditions, "undefined issues," unexpected injuries, illnesses, diagnostic tests, hospital stays, surgeries, medications, and advanced dentistry.
Plan from $50.52 to $209.15 per month
Trupanion's pricing per month is more costly than many of its competitors. The highest deductible you can choose is $1,000, and since none of the other parts of the plan are custom, you'll be paying for unlimited payouts and a 90% reimbursement percentage. The lowest possible cost is $50.52 per month. Trupanion's cat insurance is one of the few options in our review that offers a $0 deductible, but you will be paying for it. The price per month for that tier is $209.15.
Add-ons from $4.95 to $27.70 per month
Trupanion also offers add-ons (so, even at this higher than average price, not everything is included in your cat insurance plan). You can pick from a recovery and complementary care plan, which includes acupuncture, behavioral work, chiropractic, homeopathy, naturopathy, rehab, and more for $27.70 per month extra. You can also get Pet Owner Assistance, which includes boarding fees for hospitalization, liability coverage for third-party property damage, cremation and burial for accidental deaths, and holiday vacation cancellation costs covered for $4.95 per month. Notably, none of these add-ons include vet visit costs.
A little more costly than customers like
Trupanion currently holds an "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. On top of that, it has a competitive 4.3-star average rating out of 5 from Trustpilot. In general, customers said that responses were quick from customer service when issues arose regarding claims. For those who didn't need help, the claim process was quick and painless. However, there are an increasing number of complaints (including some within hours of our research) that complain about the increasing prices. Trupanion's insurance doesn't help with some of the basics of diagnostics that tend to be some of the most expensive at a vet visit. Trupanion's increasing costs for premiums are also becoming a point of contention for this cat insurance provider.
May not be the best value for your money
Trupanion has some high points, including competitive coverage, but unfortunately, the price is also quite high. With all of the options, including unlimited coverage and a high 90% reimbursement, it sounds like a great option, but because these elements can't be changed in your cat insurance plan, the prices start (and increase) much higher than competitors'. Without an option for vet visit reimbursement, this high cost raises some eyebrows about the value, even from pet owners. For these reasons, Trupanion falls down the list a bit in our review.

Healthy Paws offers cat insurance that promises to protect your furry family member from "head to tail." Plans include comprehensive coverage for accidents and illnesses, and has plenty of flexibility options. The company is backed by Chubb (a casualty insurer). The main thing to keep in mind is that Healthy Paws has a 15-day waiting period for most needs, so you may want to plan ahead if you want to use your cat insurance for something specific.
Quick quotes in less than a minute
Healthy Paws makes it easy to get your cat insurance. You'll need to add your pet's name, type, gender, breed, and age to get started. Healthy Paws will also ask you for your zip code and email to save your offer. We used a test cat that was a 6-year-old male Siamese. You should see the quote for your cat insurance in less than a minute. Healthy Paws says that it was going to show us plan options (plural), but for our test cat, we only got one plan (though we did have the option to customize it).
One plan with some customization
Healthy Paws offers a full-coverage cat insurance plan called the Signature Plan. This is the single plan we were offered for our test cat. As is, it includes unlimited payouts throughout the year, a $500 deductible, and 80% reimbursement for each claim. If you decide to customize the plan, you get access to anywhere from 50%-80% reimbursement options, and $200 to $1,000 deductibles. However, there were no options to change the unlimited annual coverage. The plan covers:
Plan pricing from $23.37 to $58.42 per month
Healthy Paws' pricing depends on how much customization you do to the plan you're suggested. However, the prices are all based on an unlimited annual coverage for reimbursement, which makes the premiums at Healthy Paws a little higher than other cat insurance providers in our review. The lowest tier is 50% reimbursement and a $1,000 deductible, which costs $23.37 per month. If you want higher reimbursement rates (up to 80%, which is still lower than many competitors), the prices go up to $58.42. This includes 80% reimbursement and a $200 deductible. With unlimited annual costs covered, this price is fairly competitive with other top-end options.
No add-ons at all
Healthy Paws did not offer any add-ons during the quoting process. Our research showed that this cat insurance site does not offer any kind of add-ons or wellness plans. Instead, if you want additional coverage, you may need to find another cat insurance company. What you see is what you get here.
Serious concerns about how deductibles are handled
Healthy Paws' reputation is highly competitive. It currently holds an "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. However, it has a more middle-ground reputation on third-party review sites like Trustpilot, where the feedback seems mixed between 5- and 1-star reviews. Healthy Paws holds a 3.6-star average rating out of 5. Regrettably, all of the most recent reviews for this cat insurance provider have been 1 or 2 stars total, and there are tons of complaints about how the deductible is calculated. According to customers who used this insurance, a 50% reimbursement is applied before the deductible is met. For example, if your deductible is $1,000 and you pay $1,200 at the vet, your 50% reimbursement will be applied to the amount you paid immediately (before getting your deductible qualified). Since 50% of $1,200 is $600, and that doesn't reach the $1,000 deductible threshold, you won't qualify for any reimbursement because you didn't reach your deductible threshold. Yikes.
Not worth the hassle with the deductibles
Healthy Paws has some decent prices at the high end, but with limited plans and some concerns about how this cat insurance handles its deductible calculation, we can't recommend it over more transparent insurance providers. The practices reported by reviewers make it harder to reach your deductible and actually use your cat insurance. For these reasons (and the lack of transparency on this on the website), Healthy Paws earns one of our lower ratings overall.

Continued from above...
Have you ever had to take a furry friend to an unexpected vet visit and been stunned by the cost of care? Cats, dogs, and everything in between need their vet visits sometimes (no matter how well we take care of our pet friends). It's a stressful event no matter what, but especially if you have a cat.
Wrangling a hissing, scratching, unwell kitty into a carrier is hard at the best of times, and knowing you've got vet bills on the way makes it that much worse. However, modern veterinary medicine offers some alternatives, such as cat insurance. Yep, your kitty baby can get some extra TLC at reasonable deductibles, just by getting some cat insurance - just like humans.
Cat insurance as a whole is a relatively new concept compared to the long history of health insurance for humans. The very first pet insurance policy was written in Sweden in the early 1900s, but it took many decades for the idea to spread widely. In the United States, the first pet insurance policy wasn't issued until 1982, when TV's famous dog Lassie was covered. Since then, the industry has grown quickly, and cat insurance has become an increasingly popular option for pet owners who want to protect their furry companions.
One of the main reasons cat insurance is becoming so accessible is the growth of online providers. Instead of searching through local offices or waiting for referrals, you can compare multiple plans with just a few clicks. Many cat insurance websites allow you to filter options based on your cat's age, breed, and specific health needs, making the process far less overwhelming. With digital tools and easy-to-understand explanations, finding the right plan online has removed many of the obstacles that used to discourage people from getting coverage for their pets.
Cost is another factor that makes cat insurance an easy choice. Vet bills for emergencies, surgeries, or ongoing treatments can add up to thousands of dollars, often with no warning. For example, conditions like bladder crystals are really common in male cats, and we've been quoted over $2,000 for life-saving emergency procedures at the vet (!). Having insurance in place spreads those costs into predictable monthly premiums, which, even added up annually, are less costly than standard vet bills. The savings from cat insurance can be the difference between being able to provide life-extending care for your furry family member and struggling to cover the expense out of pocket.
If you're ready to grab some extra peace of mind for you and your cat, signing up for cat insurance as preventive care is a great next step. However, it can be hard to know which providers to trust. To help you choose, we've put together some factors that will set the top picks apart from the rest:
If you've got a cat, we know you treat them like family (because they are), and cat insurance can give you the reassurance that you'll be able to afford their care - from kittenhood all the way up to that grumpy older-cat stage. Whether you have a perfectly healthy kitty throughout its life or you end up with a furbaby with feline diabetes, you want to make sure that everything is accounted for. With that in mind, Top Consumer Reviews has researched and ranked the top cat insurance providers out there today. That way, you can find the pick of the litter (pun intended) and go back to enjoying cuddle time with your kitty worry-free!
