Maybe you weren't even aware that dogs can use CBD, but it's true! Just as people have successfully utilized such products to manage anxiety, ease joint pain, and boost mood, dogs can get similar benefits. Usually offered in the form of a liquid tincture, a powder to sprinkle over food, or treats to hand out as needed, CBD for dogs is a great way to help your canine friends live their best lives.
Now, before you start imagining your little pooch staggering around like they're stoned, you should know that CBD doesn't have a psychoactive effect, and these supplements are required to have a THC amount of 0.3% or lower. In other words, no CBD for dogs won't get your pet "high" - but if he or she has been sick or in pain for a long time, the relief they get from a CBD product might give them more energy than they've had. Just call it "high on life" !

Honest Paws began when Chelsea, the company's founder, needed a solution for her dog's debilitating health condition. Her veterinarian prescribed a medication that would have left her cherished companion lethargic, and it wasn't guaranteed to work. After doing her research, Chelsea decided to try human-grade CBD oil. A month later, her dog's condition had completely disappeared and her mobility had improved. This inspired Honest Paws to bring premium CBD products to dog parents everywhere.
CBD products for dogs, cats, horses too
Shopping for CBD for dogs on this site is a breeze. You can either shop by pet (dog or cat; there's even a link for horses at the top of the page), or by concern: you may be trying to calm your puppy, increase their mobility, boost your pet's overall wellness, or soothe an elderly dog's bodily discomfort. There's also a product finder link at the top of the site that both recommends a formula and helps you make the right dosage calculation.
CBD oil, treats, and even peanut butter for dogs
For dogs, Honest Paws offers specific CBD oil formulas for calming, mobility, wellness and relief; the formulations vary to add extra ingredients to target those areas of need. You can also buy some pretty unique products, like a Calm Vest or CBD-infused peanut butter in a jar or convenient on-the-go pouches (Um, can we eat some of that?!) Their most popular canine product is the CBD oil, with over 1,000 customer reviews on the site. We appreciate that these reviews are unfiltered: if you want to see why anyone gave a product a 1- or 2-star rating, Honest Paws doesn't hide that from you. You won't find many of those, though: most of their CBD for dogs have a wealth of 5-star reviews that come complete with lots of praise - and some even with heartwarming candid photos and videos!
Oil and balm for cats too
Cats have three CBD products just for them: Wellness Oil, Relief Balm in an applicator, and Paw Balm in a jar. While the last two products don't have a ton of customer reviews, the oil had more than 120 ratings at the time of our evaluation. From stressed-out foster cats to felines with kidney disease, their owners said that Honest Paws' oil was a lifesaver. And we were touched to see the compassionate responses from the customer service team on each review.
Unparalleled transparency
We absolutely love the transparency Honest Paws provides on all of their CBD for dog products. In their Customer Service section on the website, you can enter the product type and batch number to see the Certificate of Analysis - or start by scanning the QR code on the package. You never have to wonder if your dogs are getting a top-quality supplement, because you can see the content analysis on demand.
Extremely affordable
Honest Paws' CBD for dogs products are really affordable. The prices for both dogs and cats range from $14.99 to $39.95, with the exception of the extra-strength CBD oil for dogs which comes in at $99.95. Shipping is free on all orders over $48 within the lower 48 United States: keep that in mind as you add items to your cart.
Discounts for auto-ship and more
Still, you can check the bottom of the Honest Paws site for any available discounts. During our most recent visit, there was an opportunity to save 15% on our first order if we supplied our email address. Also, you can subscribe to any of their products and have it delivered automatically every month: that'll save you 15% on each order, and you can cancel at any time.
30-day money-back guarantee
Another reason we love Honest Paws is because of their fantastic refund policy. You can use any of their products for up to 30 days; if you don't see the changes in your dog that you were hoping for, you can request a full refund.
Best reputation in the industry
When it comes to reputation, there's no other CBD for dogs retailer that comes close to Honest Paws. In addition to the BBB awarding Honest Paws an "A+" rating and accreditation, there were only four complaints registered there over the three years prior to our evaluation. Impressively, customers have written 575 reviews on the BBB site (for an average of 4.97 out of 5 stars), and provided a lot of positive feedback on Honest Paws' individual products.
Highest recommended CBD for dogs
Isn't it nice when a company with the word "Honest" in its name lives up to it? There aren't many retailers we would trust with our own dogs' health, but Honest Paws earns our confidence through superior-quality CBD products, transparency in their manufacturing and customer reviews, and absolute commitment to the well-being of our favorite furry family members. Plus, you can save 15% off any purchase using the code "TopCBD" . We're pleased to give them our highest recommendation for CBD for dogs.
Founded in 2013, Canna-Pet calls itself the "global pioneer of hemp CBD for pets" . The company is committed to offering ethically-sourced, organic products to help pets live happier, healthier lives. Their CBD for dog products deliver a wide array of compounds, terpenes and flavonoids, which leads to the "entourage effect" : compounds work better together than they do in isolation, giving you more noticeable results than CBD dog supplements that have just one.
Good info to help choose the right product combo
Where should you start when choosing among Canna-Pet's CBD for dog products? Their "How to Use" section has a helpful page that can walk you through their recommendations. In general, the plans are roughly the same: choose between their Advanced and Max formulas mixed with food once or twice daily, or administer drops directly in your pet's mouth 3-4 times per day. You could also sprinkle the capsules on your dog's food to administer the product, but if you've got a "super-taster" on your hands and they'd reject anything that tastes different from their regular meal, you can try the liquid instead.
Affordable pricing, especially in bundles
How much does Canna-Pet cost? For the Advanced CBD doc capsules, you'll pay $29.99-$33.99 for a 30-count supply, or $57.99-$64.99 for a 60-count supply, depending on whether you choose the dosage for small or large dogs. MaxCBD liquid is priced at $79.99 for a 10mL bottle and $99.99 for a 30-capsule bottle. And, if you prefer CBD dog biscuits, they're sold in 8 oz. packages for $16.99 (Advanced) or $38.99 (Max), as well as three-packs for $39.99 (Advanced) or $99.99 (Max). Keep scrolling down on the Canna-Pet product page and you'll find package bundles at a discount too; it's a great way to try the full range of CBD for dogs here. It's also the only company we found that is covered by many popular pet insurance plans.
No free shipping here
You can expect to pay about $6 in first-class shipping or $9.50 for Priority Mail on a single bottle. Of course, your costs will depend on the size of your order and your zip code, and you can calculate that in your cart before making your purchase.
Watch for discount offers
To save a little extra, look for a savings link at the bottom of the site. At the time of our most recent review, Canna-Pet was offering a 25% discount for sharing a testimonial or a 30% discount for signing up for their email newsletter.
30-day return policy
We're thrilled to see that Canna-Pet offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. You can try their CBD dog capsules, CBD biscuits, or CBD liquid for a month: if you don't see obvious benefits in your dog's health, you'll get your money back. Be aware that this only applies to a new customers' first purchase, and that there's a specific list of eligible products (large and small 30- and 60-count capsules, 10- and 30-count MaxCBD capsules, four flavors of biscuits, and 10 mL bottles of Liquid Max CBD).
Searchable testimonials
We encourage you to read the testimonials on the Canna-Pet site, especially because you can search them by pet type and ailment. So, if your Boxer is having muscle spasms or your Golden Retriever has hip dysplasia, you can see specific customer feedback on which products people have used and with what results (you'll also get to see some really cute candid pet photos!)
Impressive reputation and Cornell University partnership
Canna-Pet has a very strong reputation as a company. In addition to the 1,100+ testimonials on their site, they've earned an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau and there were no complaints registered there in the year prior to this review. We're also impressed by the fact that Canna-Pet has a partnership with the Clinical Pharmacology Department at Auburn University's School of Veterinary Medicine: you can see all of the final specifications of their hemp products after the clinical trials and know exactly how much each one delivers in CBDs per serving. The company also holds the first (and only) approved registration with the USPTO as "Cannabinoid Nutrition for Animals" . All of that points to Canna-Pet being a safe source of clinically-evaluated and approved CBD for dogs.
One of the best
Canna-Pet easily earns one of our highest ratings for CBD for dogs. Especially if you have pet insurance that can offset your costs here, Canna-Pet could be your preferred source for CBD dog supplements.
The Anxious Pet has one of the cutest origin stories you'll ever see. The founder's Retriever, Boulder, is deathly afraid of water - even what's in his bowl! His owner wanted to find a product that could help ease his anxiety and live his best life. While the products here are specifically geared towards anxious pets, they can be used like any other CBD product for a variety of conditions.
Use the quiz for product recommendations
Not sure where to start? Click the Quiz link (at the bottom of the site, among other places) and you'll be asked a series of questions - like whether you have a dog or cat, their age and size, what condition(s) you're most concerned by, and whether you're okay with CBD products or prefer hemp-free. Once you've entered your email address, you'll get a product recommendation. In the case of our puppy with restlessness issues, our suggestion was the Relax & Roll calming soft chews (which, incidentally, were CBD-free and made with ingredients you might be using yourself: melatonin, chamomile, etc. A CBD version is also available).
Products available in oil, treat, and supplement bar formats
If you're sure that hemp is the way to go, you can buy a 400mg bottle for dogs or cats with mild anxiety, or a 800 mg bottle for dogs with moderate to severe anxiety. They're priced at $49 and $79, or you can choose to auto refill every 1-9 months and save 30%. There are also CBD-based and CBD-free chews for hip and joint support. Finally, both the Relax & Roll and Hip & Hop products can be purchased in supplement bar form for easy use on the go: at the park, at Grandma's house, on car rides, and so on. Shipping is free on every order from The Anxious Pet.
Best refund policy on the market
The Anxious Pet has one of the best refund policies on the market. If you're unhappy with your purchase for any reason, you have 60 days to request a full refund. You won't even have to return the unused portion of the product. This store's customer service department is known as "The Stress Diffusing Team" , and you can count on them to lend a helping hand if you have questions about what to buy or how to use your CBD for dogs.
Proof of higher-than-average quality
There's so much to love about this company. First, you can always see the Certificate of Analysis for every CBD oil batch, which gives you third-party verification that the products continue to offer the highest quality. Also, their products tend to have higher concentrations of active CBD, which lets you use less and get more for your money. Customer reviews confirm that The Anxious Pet's CBD oil for dogs often works when other brands have failed to deliver results.
Fantastic feedback from dog parents
Best of all, dog owner feedback is really paws-itive (see what we did there?). From drops to treats, these products (both CBD and non-CBD) are helping dogs and their owners feel less anxious in record time. When you read comments like "my dog is so much more mobile and happier" or "he's more relaxed, less anxious, and able to enjoy the day more comfortably" , it's easy to trust that it's a product worth trying.
A favorite among CBD for dogs
The Anxious Pet is one of our favorite sources of CBD for dogs. You'll get safe and tested ingredients that work, backed by a company with an unparalleled satisfaction guarantee and top-notch customer service. This is a fantastic place to go if you're trying to help your dog with anxiety, joint and hip issues, or overall health and wellness.
Petly CBD takes your dog's health seriously. All of their products start with organic, proprietary strings of hemp grown in Colorado with 100% organic processes. The hemp oils are distilled and refined to remove impurities like chlorophyll and trace amounts of THC, leaving just a high-quality, full-spectrum CBD oil safe for dogs and cats.
Lots of flavors and format choices
Petly CBD products come in three forms: CBD oil, CBD treats, and a CBD food topper. The oils don't mention a particular flavor and might be a good choice if you have a dog or cat with sensitive (and suspicious!) taste buds, while the toppers and treats have options that most dogs love - salmon, bacon, and beef flavors.
Great value on CBD for dogs
The prices here should make you smile. The CBD food topper comes with 30 servings, and it sells for $49.99 in the feline variety and $54.90 for canines. The CBD dog treats sell for $29.99 (25 chews), and the CBD oils are priced between $39.99 and $79.99 depending on the size of your pooch.
Look for discounts
You might be able to save a little on your Petly CBD order. We got a pop-up offer after browsing the site for a while that gave us a 10% discount in exchange for our email address. We also spotted a "Bundle and Save" promotion on the main page, giving us a 10% discount with a code if we bought more than two items at a time. And, if your order is $75+, you'll qualify for free shipping.
30-day "no questions asked" refund policy
Petly CBD has a generous refund policy. If you don't love their products for any reason, you'll get a "no questions asked" refund within the first 30 days. You just have to email or call the company to make the request.
Like a "fountain of youth" for your dog
But it's not likely you'll have to ask for a refund. Judging by the reviews on each Petly CBD product, they work wonders. We found comments describing the Pet Chews as "a fountain of youth" for a 15-year-old Doberman, a cat using the Food Topper as "much less stressed" , and a 6-year-old lab/pit mix using the CBD oil "running around like a puppy" again despite hip dysplasia.
Lives up to expectations
Petly CBD sells only the highest quality CBD for dogs. We love their commitment to purity and potency, and we think it's fantastic that $1 of every purchase goes towards serving pets in need. This brand lives up to our expectations of CBD for dogs products and earns our recommendation.
Chill Paws was inspired by the experience of a family pet, a Himalayan cat with separation anxiety. When pet CBD was recommended to calm his nerves, his caregivers were stunned to see how expensive those products were in stores. They started a journey to source high-quality supplements at more affordable prices - leading to the creation of Chill Paws.
Not as many CBD for dog products to choose from
Chill Paws has a relatively limited array of CBD for dogs to choose from: 250mg full-spectrum CBD oil for dogs and cats, 500mg full-spectrum CBD oil for dogs, 150mg CBD dog treats in peanut butter flavor, and 200mg CBD pet balm (for paws, snouts, ears and other "hot spots" ). Prices range from $27.99 to $49.99, and there are bundles available for extra savings.
A few ways to save money
Keep an eye out for discounts. When we visited the Chill Paws site for the first time, we got a pop-up offering us a 15% savings on our order if we gave them our email address. You'll also get free shipping if your order is over $75.
Your preferred products might be out of stock
However, inventory availability might be an issue. At the time of this review, the CBD pet balm was out of stock - and that meant that all of the bundles weren't available either. We also read in the reviews of Chill Paws' most popular product, the 500mg CBD oil for dogs, that it was out of stock for weeks. That's rough, given all of the people who say that the liquid has been a game-changer for their dogs. In fact, you can check out the 170+ reviews on the site to see that for yourself.
30-day satisfaction guarantee
All Chill Paws CBD products are backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee. There are no strings attached, and they don't even seem to require you to send back any opened bottles to qualify. That's a great reassurance that you won't be out of pocket if your dog doesn't get results when using Chill Paws' supplements.
Could use more customer feedback
Chill Paws seems like a solid option of CBD for dogs, but a lack of customer feedback is one reason that keeps them from ranking higher in our list. We couldn't find a listing for the company with the Better Business Bureau or with many third-party sources of verified shopper reviews. On the Chill Paws site, some of their CBD products have ratings from lots of buyers, while others have none. It doesn't mean this is a bad choice, but we'd like to see more confirmation that Chill Paws does a good job with high-quality CBD for dogs and attention to customer service.
Lab reports on every batch
On the other hand, this retailer offers something you won't find on a lot of competitor sites: actual lab reports from batches of their CBD products. Many companies claim lab-tested purity, but this one goes the extra mile to prove it. That's reassuring.
High quality but low inventory
Overall, Chill Paws is worth a look for high-quality CBD oil for dogs, CBD balm for dogs, and CBD dog treats. We're impressed by their lab testing and by the many positive reviews on their most popular CBD products. However, their inventory challenges could leave you in the lurch if you need to restock. The company will need to improve in that area to rank higher among the competition.
Plus CBD says that they offer "the most reliable hemp extracts on the planet" . The company accomplishes this by offering full traceability from seed to shelf, including QR codes on every label for greater transparency. While you won't find a lot of the CBD dog treats and capsules here that are sold by other companies, you'll get a solid line of CBD oil options for your dog.
Just CBD oil here
There are six CBD dog oil options with Plus CBD: 250 mg bottles in salmon flavor and unflavored, or 500 mg bottles in chicken, beef, peanut butter flavors or unflavored. You'll pay $24.99 for the 250mg concentration and $39.99 for the 500mg varieties. This is a competitive price when you look at all of the retailers of CBD for dogs in our review. How well do their CBD dog supplements work? It's hard to say because there are hardly any customer comments on the individual product pages. However if their CBD supplements for people are an indicator, you can probably expect good things from their CBD dog oil as well.
Good transparency
We appreciate that Plus CBD makes it transparent to see the independent lab reports on all six varieties of their CBD dog oils. You can look at their page for Certificates of Analysis if you'd like to see for yourself.
Big discounts, free delivery
When we browsed the Plus CBD site most recently, we got an offer of a 30% discount on our first order if we signed up for their email newsletters. You can also save 20% and get free shipping if you set your account to autoship, with deliveries every 30, 60 or 90 days. Plus CBD isn't very direct with their shipping fees, but on our order of a 500mg bottle of CBD oil for dogs, we got free delivery via UPS Ground.
30-day refund policy - maybe
How about the refund policy? It's worded in a way that's a little convoluted, but it seems to indicate that you've got 30 days from the delivery date to request a refund. Plus CBD doesn't say that the package has to be unopened, so we're going to assume that means you can give it a try and get your money back if you're unhappy with how it works (or doesn't work) for your dog.
Limited feedback on CBD for dogs, but solid reputation overall
Customer feedback on Plus CBD left us scratching our heads a little. On a positive note, the BBB gives the company a flawless "A+" grade and there were no complaints filed there, just two negative reviews (one of which was a customer who was adamant that the ratings posted on the Plus CBD site are heavily filtered to eliminate any low ones). That may be the case, but we found more than 3,500 5-star reviews for the business that were independently collected (and thus completely unfiltered). Not very many of those mentioned CBD for dogs specifically, but the overall picture is of a company that's doing a good job of providing CBD dog supplements that work and solid customer service too.
Good option for CBD oil for dogs
Good CBD oil for dogs at good prices: that's what you'll get with Plus CBD. We'd love to see their selection expand a little to include CBD dog treats and other CBD products besides oil, but overall this is a reliable place to shop.
King Kanine was founded in 2015, starting out with a King Komb multipurpose tool for dog grooming and eventually expanding into the King Kalm CBD for dogs product line, with CBD oils, CBD sprays, CBD edibles, and CBD balms.
Appealing product variety of CBD for dogs
This store has a lot more to choose from than most. While they sell the types of CBD oils and CBD dog treats you'll find with most pet CBD retailers, King Kanine has much more than that in their inventory. From Dog Paw Balm to Mite & Mange Management Spray, you might be able to find something specialized here that isn't sold anywhere else.
Competitive pricing
You'll also get fair prices with CBD for dogs at this store. The CBD dog balm sells for just $16.99, and there are several varieties of CBD oil for dogs that you can get for $29.99 to $99.99 depending on the concentration you prefer and the size of your pooch.
Spin the wheel discount - or not
King Kanine gave us a "spin the wheel" opportunity to get a discount if we provided them with our email address. But, the code was only good for ten minutes, and the 10% discount wasn't that impressive - King Kanine's rivals often give you that discount (or more) just for entering your email, without the high-pressure "buy within 10 minutes" sales tactics involved.
Spend $100 to get free delivery
You won't be overly pleased with King Kanine's shipping policy either: you'll have to spend at least $100 to get free shipping. Their competitors usually have much lower order thresholds, and some ship all orders at no cost to you, regardless of how much you spend.
Strict (and strange) return policy
Continuing the trend, this store has a return policy that's a little stricter than most (and, in our opinion, oddly specific). You can request a refund within 30 days, but you're responsible for covering the return shipping costs. The package must be unopened or less than 30% used to be eligible for a refund. Are you confident that you know how much is 30% of a bottle of oil or a package of CBD dog treats? We aren't.
Hundreds of 5-star ratings from satisfied customers
Ordinarily these negatives would land a retailer pretty low in our rankings. Why not King Kanine? For one reason, it's their reputation. Although the "A-" from the Better Business Bureau isn't the highest grade available, there were only two complaints registered in the year leading up to this review. But more importantly, their CBD for dogs have hundreds of 5-star customer ratings, many with pictures of the pets that have used them with great results. From calmer car rides to decreased seizures, people's beloved animal companions are benefitting from what King Kanine's Kalm line provides. Even their most expensive product, the 600mg CBD with Copaiba Oil ($99.99 for 30mL), has over 520 entries from happy customers.
Love the products, just not the company
We'll be honest: there are several reasons that we don't like King Kanine as much as some other CBD for dog retailers. Their limited refund policy and big spend requirements to qualify for free shipping are two examples. However, you need to balance these negatives with the results that their CBD dog supplements, CBD dog treats, and other CBD products are obviously delivering to pets. That's hard to overlook. King Kanine may not be our favorite retailer, but they're still have a good selection of high-quality CBD for dogs.
ElleVet is the only CBD for dogs we found that combines CBD and CBDA for maximum efficacy in improving the life of dogs. The company has partnered with Cornell University to conduct clinical trials on its products, which is great proof of ElleVet's commitment to "do the right thing, do what is best for animals, trust science, and always be learning" . ElleVet's CBD for dogs have been featured in US Weekly, Reader's Digest, Forbes, Newsweek, New York Times, and many other publications.
CBD in chews, soft gels, and tinctures
ElleVet carries five products, all with Hemp CBD + CBDA: two types of CBD dog chews, CBD dog oil, CBD soft gels for dogs, and even CBD oil for cats. Pricing is on the higher end of the spectrum, compared with other CBD for dogs: from $39.95 for a bottle of CBD soft gels for small dogs, to $229.95 for a 60mL bottle of CBD oil for larger canines. How long any of ElleVet's products will last depends on the dosage: you'll want to consult the Dosage Guide linked on every product page to see how much to use for itching, discomfort, stress, cognitive issues, or palliative care.
Savings if you auto-ship or spend over $150
If you subscribe and have your ElleVet CBD dog supplements sent to you automatically each month, you'll save 25% on your first order and 15% on every subsequent one. You can also get free shipping if your order is over $150.
Case-by-case refund policy on opened products
One way ElleVet comes up short is with their return policy. It's not stated anywhere on their website (and even the link to it buried in the Terms of Service page doesn't go anywhere). We called and spoke to a very helpful ElleVet rep, who said that in general they accept returns within 30 days of purchase, but only on unopened products. When we asked if that would be the case if our dog had an adverse reaction to using an ElleVet CBD product, she said that a refund would definitely be considered in that case. Unfortunately, that's not as reassuring as many of ElleVet's competitors, who offer a risk-free guarantee with no exceptions.
Not much pet owner feedback
That refund policy would go a long way to helping prospective customers feel comfortable investing in ElleVet CBD for dogs, especially since there's not a lot of user feedback. We didn't find a listing for the company with the Better Business Bureau, and their individual CBD dog products don't have customer ratings on their website. There were just two testimonials on the site under the "Happy Dog, Happy Owners!" heading, but that's almost insignificant when you look at their competitors, who have hundreds (or thousands!) of CBD for dogs with positive reviews, complete with photos and a description of the issues that have been addressed.
Pricey product needs more customer reviews
We really love the science behind everything ElleVet sells, making sure that all of their CBD for dogs are safe, effective, and deliver what they promise. Lots of competitor products don't go nearly as far to make great CBD dog supplements. Unfortunately, with such a high price tag, little feedback from actual dog owners, and no reliable satisfaction guarantee, ElleVet ranks in the middle of the pack despite having such an impressive scientific approach to making CBD for dogs.
Verma Farms takes a "Hawaiian approach to hemp" , focusing on making CBD products that leave the world better than they found it. Everything they sell is organic, pesticide-free, non-GMO, and is meant to be something that can be used effectively and safely day in and day out. The company specializes in CBD products for people, but they also carry a line of CBD supplements and treats for dogs too.
Mostly for dogs
Verma Farms' CBD pet products are clearly geared towards dogs: even though the heading says "For Pets" , the actual product site only mentions dogs. But, as you look through what they offer, the 150mg Chicken CBD oil mentions that you can use it for cats.
Impressive flavor variety
Speaking of chicken, this store's CBD for dogs have a lot of flavor varieties compared with other brands. You'll see CBD dog treat flavors like steak, bacon, sweet potato, and even apples. You'll find CBD oils for dogs that are salmon- or chicken-flavored too. If your furry friend is a picky eater, you might have a better chance of finding something here that they'll actually tolerate.
Some items out of stock for weeks
Two products, the 3-pack Steak Bites Bundle and CBD Pet Starter Bundle, were both out of stock at the time of our most recent visit and weren't expected to ship out for 2-4 weeks. Strangely, however, all of the individual products in those packages were available for immediate a la carte purchase.
Decent pricing and discounts available
Pricing here is pretty reasonable compared with other brands' products, ranging from $39.99 to $59.99. As we browsed the Verma Farms site, we got a pop-up offering a 10% discount on our order - and it was refreshing that there were no strings attached (like signing up for an email newsletter that we probably didn't want) - just a code we could enter at checkout. You can also save money if you subscribe to monthly automatic reshipments of the CBD for dog product you prefer (but it would be nice if it gave you more options, like every other month.)
You can only return unopened CBD products
Verma Farms has a 30-day return policy, but only on unopened items. If you try their CBD for dogs and don't see any benefits (or worse, if your pet has a bad reaction), you don't have any way of getting your money back here. Even damaged items are addressed "on a case-by-case basis" , which isn't the most reassuring policy we've seen.
Solid feedback from customers
There's a decent amount of positive customer feedback on individual Verma Farms CBD dog products, from a couple dozen reviews on some of the CBD drops to almost 200 on one of the varieties of CBD dog chews. It's nice to see what actual pet owners have to say, because Verma Farms doesn't specialize in CBD for dogs and they have limited reviews elsewhere. We didn't even find a listing with the Better Business Bureau.
Good transparency
Another plus is the ability to review the Certificate of Analysis for Verma Farms' products. You can see for yourself that the company means it when they promise "total transparency and powerful potency" with independently-conducted lab testing.
Could be more customer-friendly
Verma Farms CBD for dogs adds some nice variety to the marketplace, and their prices are more affordable than many other options out there. In order to move higher in our rankings, though, the company should consider a more generous return policy and keep an eye on inventory to not run out of stock for weeks at a time on some of their more popular products.
Direct CBD Online was created in 2018, stocking the highest-quality CBD products on the market for both people and pets. They carry over 200 items for animals, ranging from CBD dog treats and topical applications to CBD capsules and drops. Whatever format works best for your dog, you'll find a CBD product in this marketplace.
Use filters for easier shopping
To get started, we recommend using the filters to narrow down your options. You can sort through everything Direct CBD Online carries by price range, product category (like Topicals or CBD for Dogs), or by the type of CBD. From there, it's easy to see which products are a good match. In your results list, you can also sort them by price, popularity, or how recently they were added to the store.
Really informative product pages
Direct CBD Online's most popular dog product is the Lazarus Naturals Calming CBD Oil Pet Tincture. It comes in a range of sizes, from 15mL to 120mL, priced at $11.99 to $59.99. The product page is wonderfully informative: in addition to dosage info and verified customer reviews, you can also click on the independent lab report and see the tincture's analysis.
Save money when you auto-ship or spend at least $49
You might be able to save money on your Direct CBD purchase. When we visited the online store, there was a coupon code at the top of the site offering a 25% discount on first-time orders. You'll also get free shipping if your order is at least $49. Finally, if you set up your CBD product to automatically reship every 1-3 months, you'll save 15% on all future orders.
Lack of money-back guarantee or return policy
Because this store doesn't make the products they sell, they don't offer a money-back guarantee on your CBD purchase. Instead, you'll get a 40% off coupon towards another purchase, to try something else. You might be able to get a refund directly from the manufacturer, but there's no guarantee.
Too many complaints
That's important, because despite having an "A" rating and accreditation from the BBB, Direct CBD has received a fair number of complaints. People describe issues with shipping, mostly with orders that aren't even sent until the customer contacts the company to ask when to expect the package (often a week after placing the order). We also read a few comments from shoppers who received leaky bottles, expired supplements, or the wrong item entirely.
Not an expert in CBD for dogs
While we like the idea of having a one-stop shop for a variety of CBD for dogs, that's not the bread and butter of what Direct CBD Online sells. That's pretty obvious when their top-selling pet item only has 18 reviews, all of which are a year or more old. Combine that with the "no refunds" policy, and you'll see why this retailer has room to improve.
Empe is a less-than-impressive store offering a variety of CBD products, including supplements for dogs. There are several areas on the site that are strangely worded, leaving us to wonder if the company is truly based in the USA as advertised. But, read on and draw your own conclusions.
Less than a dozen CBD for dog products
Empe carries eleven CBD products for pets, all of which are CBD tinctures in concentrations of 150-300mg or CBD dog treats with 100-200mg. There are specific formulas for cats and dogs; Empe doesn't mention usage with any other animals. Prices start at $39.99 for treats and $39.99 for CBD tincture. They provide a decent variety of flavor choices, with bacon, steak, jerky, pigs in a blanket, meatballs, seafood and salmon. However, none of the products on the Empe site had more than four customer reviews, and they were all at least three years old.
Returns only for unused CBD products
There's a very limited return policy with this retailer. You can only return unused, unopened products within 30 days of purchase. You can't get a refund if the CBD product doesn't work for your dog or if they have a bad reaction to it.
No current, independent analysis reports
Unlike many providers of CBD for dogs, Empe doesn't give you a Certificate of Analysis for most of what they sell. If you look hard enough, you'll find one for Pet Treats and another for Pet Spray, each of which detected 100 mg per package, but none of the other compounds (like CBDA, CBG, etc.) that would make these remedies more effective. Plus, both CoAs were from 2018: not exactly the most compelling evidence that Empe continues to make high-quality CBD for dogs. There are potency reports in the images of most of their pet supplements - however they don't seem to have come from an independent lab, but rather from Empe itself.
Keep on walking
Empe gets our lowest ranking among companies offering CBD for dogs. Their rating from the Better Business Bureau, a disappointing "B-" , comes from a pattern of customer issues: bait-and-switch with BOGO (Buy One Get One) offers, no order tracking, and so forth. Additionally, the phone number listed on the Empe website hasn't been in service for the better part of a year. That's not a good look for any company, let alone one you're entrusting with your beloved pet's health. We think you'll have a better experience with any of the other stores in our review that offer CBD for dogs.
It's important to consider the quality of the hemp plants used in any CBD product you're thinking of using with your dog. The greater the spectrum of cannabinoids present, the more benefits you should see in their wellness. And, the best retailers of CBD for dogs let you see the Certificate of Analysis right on their websites. These are third-party lab reports that list out the components detected in each batch, from desirable things like CBD and other cannabinoids to pesticides and other contaminants (which you obviously hope to see low levels or none at all!).
Beyond that, what should you look for when browsing the many stores that sell CBD for dogs? Here are a few criteria that can help guide your decision-making:
TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best sources of CBD for dogs available today. We hope this information helps you find the right combination of CBD treats, food and supplements to get your animal companions feeling their best!
CBD oil is a compound that can be found in cannabis and hemp. Dr. Klein, the Chief Veterinary Doctor at the American Kennel Club, says it's essential to note that most CBD products are derived from hemp, which does not contain the psychoactive component called delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
When it comes to animals, scientists do not know how CBD affects dogs because there has been no formal study on this topic. What we do know is that cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid receptors in the central and peripheral nervous systems to maintain balance in the body for all living things.
However, there is anecdotal evidence to suggest that CBD can be used by dogs to treat pain, neuropathic pain in particular, and help control seizures. CBD has also been used for its anti-inflammatory benefits, cardiac benefits, anti-nausea effects, appetite stimulation, anti-anxiety impact, and possible anti-cancer benefits.
Pets are biologically similar to humans, so CBD affects dogs the same way it does people. It is important to follow dosage instructions properly to minimize any potential side effects.
Causes for concern include CBD-induced dry mouth, which usually manifests as thirstiness. Another common side effect of CBD is a temporary drop in blood pressure, which causes a brief feeling of light-headedness. CBD oil may also cause drowsiness in higher doses. All of these concerns can be minimized when proper dosing is used. But other than that, CBD for dogs can provide major benefits with little issue.
Why is CBD So Popular, Now?
There are several reasons why CBD oil has recently become a popular topic of conversation. The legalization of marijuana in many states throughout the country has caused interest in the potential health benefits of this product to skyrocket.
Is There a Difference Between Human and Pet CBD Products?
Many CBD oil products are safe for both humans and pets. However, you might be confused about which oil humans can take because of the product labels that say, "CBD Oil for Dogs." This is a marketing strategy as most CBD oils are the same, meaning they will work on either species.
Since CBD oil for humans is marketed for human consumption, it will be clearly marked. On the other hand, CBD oil intended for pets will face more stringent regulations than pet CBD products and can only be sold online.
Furthermore, CBD products are for everyone. Humans alike can consume pet CBD oil or human-grade oils made with the same ingredients and in similar concentrations to those prescribed by veterinarians. Pets may also take CBD oil intended for humans, albeit with more stringent testing procedures to ensure safety as evaluated by the FDA or Federal Drug Administration.
CBD products are required by the FDA to adhere under stricter labeling guidelines. These strict guidelines exist for a reason, so if a product is not approved, then you should avoid buying it.
Potential Benefits and uses of CBD
CBD can have health benefits for dogs, including anti-nausea, anti-anxiety, shiny coat, improved appetite, joint health, and arthritis.
CBD can reduce anxiety: If your dog is excessively restless, barks, or exhibits destructive behaviors when you leave the house, then they could be suffering from separation anxiety. CBD can reduce anxiety in dogs to make them calmer when you're not home. It has also been proven effective in alleviating noise phobias, which makes your dog less intimidated by thunderstorms or fireworks displays.
CBD Can Help Treat Seizures and Epilepsy: CBD is a common treatment prescribed for humans suffering from seizures, but it can help pets as well. It doesn't cause harmful effects like other medications do and often helps animals with seizure activity.
Studies have shown that CBD relieves pain: CBD has been found to be effective at easing pain, including inflammation and nerve-related pain. It can also help arthritis by reducing joint and mobility pain.
Using CBD can help with appetite and nausea: CBD is a beneficial companion for pups that are struggling to eat or experiencing nausea. It also helps with vomiting, even when chemical toxins or drugs have caused these symptoms.
Cannabidiol (CBD) may help fight cancer: Some studies have suggested that CBD has an anti-tumor effect, stopping cancerous cells from growing and increasing tumor cell death by blocking their ability to produce energy.
Things to Consider before Purchasing
First and foremost, check for the label's Certificate of Analysis (COA), which should include a lab test result for the THC levels. You want 0.3% THC or less in your dog's products.
Other tests that should be mentioned in the product description are a microbial test, which can determine if pathogens like salmonella or E. coli are present in food and water samples, a heavy metals test shows results for pollutants, such as lead, and a pesticide test because some organic CBD products are contaminated with pesticides from other crops, it is important to test for pesticide contamination.
It is difficult to ensure that a CBD product is genuine if the seller does not offer information about testing and sources. When there are no COAs available, it's best to move on from that supplier. You can find reputable vendors by asking your veterinarian or searching online forums with pets. Because our pets are an extension of our family, you won't want to take chances with subpar products!
How to Choose a CBD for Your Dog - A Checklist
When you and your veterinarian decide to try CBD oil as a treatment option for your dog, it is important that you purchase high-quality CBD oil. Things to look for include:
Is There More Research Coming?
The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation (CHF) is supporting a study at Colorado State University to evaluate the use of CBD in treatment-resistant epileptic dogs. They hope the study will be the first to gain scientific data on using CBD in dogs with this condition.
CBD for pets is still new, and the effects of CBD are still being studied. Not all companies offer trustworthy products that you can rely on, and not every veterinarian can talk about it with their patients because CBD is not legalized federally - veterinarians in most states aren't allowed to bring up the topic.
CBD is not yet regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which means there are no specific dosage guidelines for using CBD on dogs. Furthermore, giving a dog something new always carries the risk of adverse results because every animal reacts differently to substances.
First and Foremost, Speak with a Professionals Where Possible
If you want to try CBD for your pet's ailment, consider speaking with your vet before you buy a product. You should also be aware that human CBD products may contain small amounts of THC, and they aren't ideal for pets.
Although CBD lacks psychoactive properties in humans, it can be toxic to animals. Even small doses of CBD in human hemp products could cause problems for different pets. Though it doesn't work as a cure-all for all the problems that our furry friends face, many owners think they are useful for other ways to help their beloved pets
The VIN News Service found that 63 percent of veterinarians were asked about CBD oil for pets at least once a month from pet owners. And veterinarians are reluctant to advise pet owners about using CBD for their pets as doing this can lead to penalties and suspending their license in certain states.
Veterinarians in some other states are much more likely to talk with clients about using cannabis for their pets if it's legalized. In fact, California recently passed a law that prevents state regulators from penalizing veterinarians for talking with clients about these topics.
But, as of now, your veterinarian is under no obligation to recommend CBD products to you, nor can they provide prescriptions. Unfortunately, even in states where medicinal cannabis is legal, the existing laws only allow for a human healthcare provider to prescribe it to people. They don't authorize veterinarians to administer or recommend such products for use in animal patients.
The Takeaway
CBD is a great tool proven to minimize unwanted behaviors and promote a better life for your pet. When choosing the best option for your little loved one, you'll need to weigh multiple factors, such as dosing amount and selecting the right product before moving forward.
