2023 CBD for Dogs Reviews

Empe Review 1.5 Star Rating

Empe

1.5 Star Rating
  • CBD for dogs available in oil/tincture and dog treats
  • Made in the USA
  • 30-day return policy on unopened products
  • Free shipping

Empe is a less-than-impressive store offering a variety of CBD products, including supplements for dogs. There are several areas on the site that are strangely worded, leaving us to wonder if the company is truly based in the USA as advertised. But, read on and draw your own conclusions.

Less than a dozen CBD for dog products

Empe carries eleven CBD products for pets, all of which are CBD tinctures in concentrations of 150-300mg or CBD dog treats with 100-200mg. There are specific formulas for cats and dogs; Empe doesn't mention usage with any other animals. Prices start at $39.99 for treats and $39.99 for CBD tincture. They provide a decent variety of flavor choices, with bacon, steak, jerky, pigs in a blanket, meatballs, seafood and salmon. However, none of the products on the Empe site had more than four customer reviews, and they were all at least three years old.

Returns only for unused CBD products

There's a very limited return policy with this retailer. You can only return unused, unopened products within 30 days of purchase. You can't get a refund if the CBD product doesn't work for your dog or if they have a bad reaction to it.

No current, independent analysis reports

Unlike many providers of CBD for dogs, Empe doesn't give you a Certificate of Analysis for most of what they sell. If you look hard enough, you'll find one for Pet Treats and another for Pet Spray, each of which detected 100 mg per package, but none of the other compounds (like CBDA, CBG, etc.) that would make these remedies more effective. Plus, both CoAs were from 2018: not exactly the most compelling evidence that Empe continues to make high-quality CBD for dogs. There are potency reports in the images of most of their pet supplements - however they don't seem to have come from an independent lab, but rather from Empe itself.

Keep on walking

Empe gets our lowest ranking among companies offering CBD for dogs. Their rating from the Better Business Bureau, a disappointing "B-" , comes from a pattern of customer issues: bait-and-switch with BOGO (Buy One Get One) offers, no order tracking, and so forth. Additionally, the phone number listed on the Empe website hasn't been in service for the better part of a year. That's not a good look for any company, let alone one you're entrusting with your beloved pet's health. We think you'll have a better experience with any of the other stores in our review that offer CBD for dogs.

Where Can You Get the Best CBD for Dogs?

Maybe you weren't even aware that dogs can use CBD, but it's true! Just as people have successfully utilized such products to manage anxiety, ease joint pain, and boost mood, dogs can get similar benefits. Usually offered in the form of a liquid tincture, a powder to sprinkle over food, or treats to hand out as needed, CBD for dogs is a great way to help your canine friends live their best lives.

Now, before you start imagining your little pooch staggering around like they're stoned, you should know that CBD doesn't have a psychoactive effect, and these supplements are required to have a THC amount of 0.3% or lower. In other words, no CBD for dogs won't get your pet "high" - but if he or she has been sick or in pain for a long time, the relief they get from a CBD product might give them more energy than they've had. Just call it "high on life" !

CBD for Dogs FAQ

While it's probably best known for soothing anxiety and phobias, CBD for dogs is also used for pain relief, joints and mobility, epilepsy, seizures, and all of the conditions associated with aging. It's hard to come up with a circumstance where CBD for dogs hasn't been used to help animal companions to feel their best!
While that's funny to imagine, the answer is no. CBD doesn't have psychoaffective effects like THC, and it won't leave you with a dog that's "high" . But, your furry friend may have more energy and feel better, so don't be surprised if they act more "high on life" than usual!
Yes. CBD oil naturally occurs in cannabis and hemp plants, which have been cultivated for millenia. There are hundreds of brands that use CBD oil with dogs of all varieties and sizes.
No. You can buy CBD directly from a retailer with no prescription needed. However, you can always check in with your vet before starting any CBD products if you have any specific questions.
Yes! CBD is legal on a federal level. Regulations vary by state, and yours may require that CBD products have THC of 0.3% or less - but most retailers of these CBD oils, supplements and food/treats come in under that threshold anyway.
Most CBD for dogs come in several formats: capsules (that you can feed or open and sprinkle over food), liquid (that you administer into their mouth or their food), treats, and even sprays. It may take some trial and error to determine which type is best accepted by your dog: some are hesitant if they see their food is even a little bit different from the norm, while others will eagerly engulf a tasty treat. It's smart to choose a CBD for dog product with a money-back guarantee, just in case you want to try a different format.
Yes and no. You could easily spend $100/month or more for a full daily CBD regimen, or just $15 for a bag of CBD dog biscuits to use as needed. Some stores have package deals that can save you money, and others give you discounts on autoship (monthly) orders. You may also find promotions like free shipping or a discount if you sign up for an email newsletter. If your dog has been suffering and a CBD product helps him or her feel better, it's well worth the investment.
That depends on the policies of the store where you purchased your dog's CBD product. Many of the top retailers in our review make it risk-free for you to give them a try by offering a 100% satisfaction guarantee, usually within 30 days of purchase. Others have much stricter return policies, or none at all.

Continued from above...

It's important to consider the quality of the hemp plants used in any CBD product you're thinking of using with your dog. The greater the spectrum of cannabinoids present, the more benefits you should see in their wellness. And, the best retailers of CBD for dogs let you see the Certificate of Analysis right on their websites. These are third-party lab reports that list out the components detected in each batch, from desirable things like CBD and other cannabinoids to pesticides and other contaminants (which you obviously hope to see low levels or none at all!).

Beyond that, what should you look for when browsing the many stores that sell CBD for dogs? Here are a few criteria that can help guide your decision-making:

  • Value. A lot of CBD for dogs are close in price, but which ones give you the most for your money? Look for potency (how many milligrams of CBD are in each dose or bottle) as one key factor.
  • Format. If your dog is a picky eater, you might not be able to disguise the CBD flavor in their food. An oral dropper is one popular alternative. Does the store where you're shopping have the kind of CBD product your dog is most likely to tolerate (like treats, drops or powders to mix with food, or sprays)?
  • Transparency. How much information does the company give you about each CBD dog product? Can you see detailed reports on the lab analyses performed on each batch, or just one that was conducted years ago? Some manufacturers go so far as to include a QR code you can scan on every package.
  • Results. What do dog owners say about how well the CBD oil, treats or powder has helped their four-legged family members? Are there a lot of satisfied customers?
  • Refund Policy. You might try a CBD for dog product and see no results, or maybe you need a different format or a stronger dosage. Does the company let you request a refund? If so, is there a time limit?
  • Reputation. Along with customer comments, consider if the business has been evaluated by the Better Business Bureau or any other trusted third-party organizations.
