Murray's describes themselves as "cheese experts and enthusiasts who make, source, sell and serve exceptional cheese and specialty foods nationwide." Murray's ages their own cheeses in their state-of-the-art cheese caves in Long Island. They are based out of New York City and have become a staple stop for locals wanting to experience their cheese flights and dishes. For those of us who aren't locals, Murray's expanded their selection by launching an online store to give everyone an opportunity to get their unique cheeses for themselves.
Pantry staples and cheese clubs
Murray's Cheese has a lot to offer. In addition to shopping for their meats, baked goods, nuts, pizza toppings, oils, crackers, and other pantry essentials, they have 5 monthly clubs you can enjoy. We'll be focusing on their Classic Cheese of the Month Club, but you could also check out Cheesemonger's Picks of the Month Club, Perfect Pair of the Month Club, Cheese Board of the Month Club, and Mac and Cheese of the Month Club if they resonate with you.
3-4 new flavors per box
The Classic Cheese of the Month Club is for cheese lovers and cheese newbies. The collection in each box rotates monthly and you'll get to enjoy 3-4 flavors of iconic cheeses chosen from the highest quality selections. They come from both international and domestic producers, so your palate is sure to be pleased with all the diverse tastes. To get an idea of what types of flavors have been included in previous months, you can view past selections.
Vague box contents
Unlike some other cheese subscription companies, Murray's doesn't specify the quantity of the cheese you'll be receiving. We know you'll get 3-4 different types, but does the weight of each kind vary monthly? Do they keep it consistent? When you're paying a good chunk of money for a box like this, you want to know what kind of value you're getting. It appears that the boxes only include cheese, but there are options to pay extra for pairings like a sampler of fruit preserves for $17 or olive oil flatbread crackers for $9.
Packaged for freshness
Monthly club packages from Murray's are shipped overnight via FedEx on the second Wednesday of every month for arrival the next day (second Thursday of the month). Orders are packaged with thermal lining and food-friendly gel packs so the cheese will stay cold upon delivery.
Set your delivery schedule
Like most cheese delivery services, you can set your boxes for 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months of shipments. If you want to be able to cancel at any time and get a box each month, you can pay as you go month-to-month. A 3-month box is $175 ($58/month), 6 months costs $340 ($57/month), and a 12-month box is $675 ($56/month). The most expensive option is to go month-to-month and pay $63 per box. One perk is that shipping is always free on all deliveries!
Not bad, but not the best
Murray's doesn't have a Better Business Bureau rating and many customer reviews are about the ambiance and experience of their in-person restaurant and store in New York. We don't doubt that Murray's provides a delicious assortment of cheeses in each box, but we wish they were more specific about what is included. Overall, this isn't a bad option for cheese delivery, but because this isn't their main focus they don't give as many details or perks as some higher-rated companies do. They've earned a slightly lower-than-average rating from us.
