On the Amazing Clubs website

Amazing Clubs is a long-standing site known for its wide variety of subscription clubs. Whether you're looking for beer, wine, coffee, hot sauce, bacon, bagels, or one of the other 38 treats offered by Amazing Clubs, this site has got your taste fix handled. The chocolate club is one of many tasty monthly subscriptions offered by this well-known one-stop shop. With a reputation for highly-researched and premium treats in all its subscription boxes, Amazing Clubs is a fan favorite.

Pick your duration and frequency of shipments

To subscribe to the chocolate club at Amazing Clubs, you just need to select from the various club duration options. Amazing Clubs offers a one-time payment (if you prefer to pick out a duration and pre-pay) or monthly payments. Amazing Clubs offers durations for 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, or seasonal (which delivers every 3 months). Regardless of the plan you choose, you can pick monthly or bi-monthly shipments (you'll still get the same amount of chocolate over time, don't worry). Finally, you can choose what month your deliveries will start, so if you're gifting, you can plan ahead and start deliveries in December for the holidays or on someone's birthday.

Includes all kinds of chocolate treats

Every chocolate club box includes hand-crafted chocolates, all from chocolatiers in the US. You will get one full pound of chocolate in every shipment, along with a monthly newsletter about the chocolates you're trying. Some of the previous shipments included boxes of chocolate truffles with filling, premium milk and white chocolate bars, and a selection of bonbons. Some boxes offered toffees, honeycomb chips, and chocolate barks as well.

Best Chocolate Clubs

Prices from $42.95 to $54.95

Pricing for the chocolate club at Amazing Clubs depends on which subscription you choose. If you pick the one-time prepay, you'll be looking at the total cost. If you prefer to pick a time frame and pay monthly, you'll be looking at the monthly cost:

  • 3 months: $49.95 per month and $149.85 total
  • Seasonal: $48.95 per month and $195.80 total
  • 6 months: $46.95 per month and $281.70 total
  • 12 months: $42.95 per month and $515.40 total
  • Monthly ongoing: $54.95

There is a noticeable discount if you commit to a longer period, regardless of your preferred payment style. On top of that, all orders from Amazing Clubs include free shipping.

Refunds for unused shipments

According to Amazing Clubs' satisfaction guarantee, you'll be able to cancel your subscription to the chocolate club (or any of its clubs) at any time. If you decide to end your membership in the middle of a prepaid term, you will be credited for any unused months (if you prepay for a 12-month subscription and only use 4 months of the shipments, you will get a refund for 8 months of what you paid). So, you never have to worry about quality or being stuck in a subscription at Amazing Clubs.

Top-notch reviews for quality

Amazing Clubs holds a high "A-" rating on the Better Business Bureau. On top of that, it has an impressive 4.8-star average from Trustpilot. There are almost 2,500 individual verified reviews, with 94% of all feedback holding a full 5-star rating. Customers love the service reps at Amazing Club, who are helpful with everything from planning out gift subscriptions for loved ones to resolving issues with shipments right away. The reviews that specifically talk about the chocolate club include high praise for the flavors and selection of chocolates in each shipment. One customer had trouble with melted chocolates and immediately got a free replacement for her package without any issues. Many of the customers return again and again and subscribe to multiple Amazing Clubs' services because they love the company so much.

Best all-around chocolate club

If you're looking for a chocolate club that has a wide variety of chocolate treats, flexible options for shipment times and durations, and an "unsubscribe any time" promise with refunds for unused months, Amazing Clubs is going to be one of the best sites for you. Plus, with a wide variety of other subscription clubs, you can find tons of treats and gifts for you and your foodie family members to last a lifetime. For these reasons (and the incredible high reviews), Amazing Clubs earns a full 5-star rating in our review.

On the Bar & Cocoa website

Promising a chocolate "experience" instead of just sending you chocolate each month, Bar & Cocoa is a premium chocolatier and chocolate club with impressive selections from around the world. Focusing on chocolate from countries where cacao is grown, Bar & Cocoa specializes in chocolates from Peru, Vietnam, the Philippines, Brazil, Colombia, and many others. The company has been praised by foodies and publications like Food & Wine, Forbes, Delish, and CNET. The main thing to keep in mind is that the shipments focus mostly on bars of chocolate rather than bonbons or other smaller bite-size treats.

Pick between two varieties

To join the chocolate club at Bar & Cocoa, you just need to pick between the types of clubs: Classic Dark or Adventure. Depending on your choice, you'll get different chocolates. You can also choose between 3, 6, or 12 months of prepaid shipments. At the time of our review, there wasn't a pay-monthly option. You can also select whether the chocolate club is a gift or a shipment for yourself.

4 full bars of chocolate

Depending on the box you choose, Bar & Cocoa will offer slightly different chocolate selections. If you pick the Classic Dark chocolate club, all of the bars will be plain dark, vegan chocolate. You can expect the bars to be between 64%-85% dark chocolate. For the Adventure box, you can expect a variety of dark, milk, and white chocolate. Some chocolates will have fruit, nuts, or other inclusions too. No matter which box you choose, you'll get 4 full-size bars of chocolate in every shipment. Some previous shipments included treats by Fossa, Fjak, Domori, Raaka, and more.

Best Chocolate Clubs

Subscriptions from $139 to $519

The cost for both chocolate clubs is exactly the same at Bar & Cocoa. The only differences come with the length of your subscription. All subscriptions need to be paid in full at the time of checkout - there aren't any monthly payment plans for this service. Here's what the costs look like:

  • 3 months: $139
  • 6 months: $269
  • 12 months: $519

On the bright side, anything above $79 at Bar & Cocoa qualifies for free shipping. This means that all of your subscription boxes will be delivered at no extra cost. However, if you want to make sure that your chocolates don't melt during transit, there is a $3.99 fee for a No Melt Guarantee.

Refunds or a free month of subscription

The refund policy states that Bar & Cocoa does not accept any kind of returns for a refund. The company does promise that if you send a picture of an issue with your chocolate within 24 hours of receiving your package, you'll be able to get a refund or replacement, depending on what is currently in stock. If you have a subscription, you will also be offered a free month of your chocolate club subscription as a recourse. Some product quality issues can be covered within 7 days of your delivery rather than 24 hours, but it's safer to contact them right away if you can.

High praise but only a few reviews on trusted sites

Bar & Cocoa is not currently rated by the Better Business Bureau. Instead, we had to rely on third-party reviews to get an idea of this chocolate club. There weren't a lot of third-party reviews on trusted sites either. For example, there was just 1 total review on Trustpilot. While this review was an impressive 5 stars with praise for the company's top-quality chocolate and fast shipping, we'd love to see more feedback. On some other review sites, like JudgeMe, there were over 2,000 reviews with a 4.6-star average rating. These reviews included photos of the chocolate bars and highly positive comments about flavors, quality, and texture of the chocolate bars.

Top pick: Best for chocolate bars

Bar & Cocoa is a unique choice if you want international chocolate from premium chocolatiers. While we'd love to see more reviews on trusted third-party review sites like the BBB and Trustpilot, the reviews that are out there are detailed and include photos from actual customers for this chocolate club. With high praise for flavor, variety, and fast shipping, Bar & Cocoa stands out as a unique choice to try bars with exciting inclusions. If you want to go straight to the source, Bar & Cocoa will be the pick for you.

4.0

On the Kekao website

Kekao is a chocolate club that focuses its attention on bars of chocolate. Rather than offering treats or clusters, this chocolate club is 100% about finding extraordinary international chocolate and shipping it to your door. Kekao seeks out small-scale chocolatiers who put creativity at the forefront of their work. All of the selections are made by chocolatiers and include award-winning chocolate bars from across the world.

Pick an ongoing or prepaid plan

To join Kekao's chocolate club, you just need to click the "subscribe and save" option, where you can pick out a monthly box that comes automatically. If you prefer to prepay (or send chocolate as a gift), you can select the 3-month plan, 6-month plan, or 12-month plan. Or, if you're in the mood just to try it, you can get a one-time purchase, to just taste the delicious chocolates and get a preview of what your subscription might be like if you want to commit. There is a significant discount when you subscribe, too.

Premium bars in every shipment

Each chocolate club box at Kekao includes four full-size chocolate bars. These are all fine, gourmet bars with a selection that encompasses white, milk, and dark chocolate. Most of the selections are dark or milk, according to Kekao's rundown, but you will occasionally get white chocolate. Most have interesting inclusions and come as a complete surprise each month. Some featured chocolate bar brands you might expect to see in your boxes include Raaka, Dick Taylor, Cacao Sampaka, Original Beans, Ranger, Marou, Cacaosuyo, and Fossa.

Best Chocolate Clubs

Pricing at $58.50 per month or $165.75 to $585 prepaid

The pricing for Kekao's chocolate club is simple, and it includes savings when you subscribe. The one-time payment for a box of four chocolate bars is $65. If you decide to do a subscription, here's how the costs shake out:

  • Monthly: $58.50 per month
  • 3 Month Prepaid: $165.75
  • 6 Month Prepaid: $312
  • 12 Month Prepaid: $585

On top of competitive costs for chocolate, you also get free 2-day shipping with all of the subscription plans.

Partial refunds offered for unused months

Kekao offers a refund policy for unused boxes, but there's a small caveat because the prepaid subscriptions are discounted. For example, the 12-month chocolate club box breaks down to $48.75 per month. However, if you choose to ask for a refund/cancel a prepaid subscription early, you'll be charged the full amount for each used month, which is $58.50 per month. So, if you use three months of your 12-month subscription, your refund for the prepaid amount would only be after Kekao deducted $175.50 (at the full subscription price) for the three months used. So, you'd get $409.50 back.

Positive feedback on flavor and variety

While Kekao is highly popular on social media and YouTube reviews from influencers, there aren't many third-party reviews that cover this chocolate club. Kekao currently doesn't have a page on the Better Business Bureau, and it also doesn't have any third-party reviews on Trustpilot or Sitejabber. Bloggers generally praise the quality of the chocolate and the variety between different boxes. The flavors are also a high point for many influencers. However, we'd love to see more verified third-party reviews (that are less likely to be curated or paid promotions).

Competitive choice for high-end chocolate

There are a lot of high points to consider with Kekao. Like other similar boxes that focus on chocolate bars, Kekao offers high-end boutique brands and four full bars of chocolate in each box. This chocolate club also has the added benefit of offering a one-time purchase so you can test out the chocolates before you make a subscription commitment. With the refund policy and praise on food blogs, Kekao stands out from the pack. However, with no verified third-party reviews, Kekao doesn't quite beat out similar chocolate clubs that do have BBB pages or trusted reviews. Still, it remains highly competitive and worth a look if you want to try high-end chocolate bars.

On the The Secret Chocolatier website

The Secret Chocolatier is a "family business turned subscription as a delicious chocolate club". The company has been around since 2008, and not only do the owners offer chocolate treats, but you can also take hands-on chocolate classes if you're in the area. Known for custom truffle art, custom chocolate bars, and being a top choice for gifting, The Secret Chocolatier's chocolate club allows you a little taste of this couple's hard work on chocolate each month. It's like you're part of the family.

Pick your subscription length and go

The Secret Chocolatier is easy to sign up for. You just need to choose from one of the four chocolate club subscription plans and add it to the cart, and you're ready to go. The Secret Chocolatier offers subscriptions that are seasonal, every three months, every 6 months, and a full year. The boxes are pre-planned, so you can preview the upcoming months before you join. The fixed-duration subscriptions will not auto-renew, so they're particularly good for gift giving.

Every box is planned with different treats

Every chocolate club box at The Secret Chocolatier is a little different, and if you want a preview, you can scroll down when you click on your preferred subscription length and see the upcoming year listed below. Here are a few highlights of what you might expect in a box:

  • August box: 16 seasonal truffles
  • October box: 4 coconut macarons, 4 biscotti, 6 Halloween-themed dipped grahams, and 4 bourbon pecan bites
  • November box: 16 seasonal truffles
  • December: 4 oz of roasted pecan cherry chocolate bark, 9 dark chocolate dipped cherries, 6 orange chocolate truffles, and other fruit assortments
Best Chocolate Clubs

Pricing from $147 to $545 per subscription

The least costly option at The Secret Chocolatier is the 3-month subscription, which costs $147. The next up is the seasonal (which comes in February, May, August, and November) and costs $196. Then, the 6-month club is $288, and finally, the year-long club is $564. These prices aren't too bad for this chocolate club, but they don't include shipping automatically. Your final cost of shipping will depend on your location. For some areas, though, you may qualify for free shipping. For example, we were offered free USPS priority for our location at the time of our review.

Lackluster refund policy

The only statement on possible refunds from The Secret Chocolatier is their 100% commitment statement. The company promises that it will resolve any issues that may arise, but there aren't specific promises for reimbursement or reshipment for the chocolate club. The only details are to direct you to the customer service team to handle any questions about your orders.

Top marks for quality chocolate

The Secret Chocolatier does have a page with the Better Business Bureau, but it was not rated at the time of our research. Similar to some other chocolate clubs in our review, The Secret Chocolatier was primarily reviewed on JudgeMe rather than on our favorite third-party review sites like Trustpilot or Sitejabber. On JudgeMe, The Secret Chocolatier holds an impressive 4.9 stars out of 5 across 212 verified reviews. Customers praised the flavor of the chocolates and said that the treats were generally "very crunchy and satisfying." Overall, customers highly recommended the chocolate club, and many resubscribed after their initial subscription ended.

Best family-owned option

Despite less detail than we'd like regarding refunds or reshipment policies, The Secret Chocolatier is a favorite among customers who come back again and again for the chocolate treats. With the opportunity for free shipping (depending on location), you could get a great deal for a chocolate club subscription here. Plus, with the family-owned company, you know you're getting treats made with love throughout the year. For these reasons, The Secret Chocolatier earns a solid score in our review, with the opportunity to score even higher if it earns more feedback on more trusted third-party review sites.

On the Phillips Chocolates website

Phillips Chocolates is a professional chocolatier that makes its own chocolate in-house. Different from some other sites in our review, which focus on sourcing chocolates from other confectioners, Phillips Chocolates has been making gourmet chocolates since 1925. The company is based in Boston and is known for hand-dipped chocolate turtles and caramels. On top of selling all sorts of chocolate treats, you can also find a chocolate club at this retailer with plenty of options for customization.

Join for a specific number of months

To join the chocolate club at Phillips Chocolates, you just need to pick out the club length you want and your starting month. It's a fairly simple process, and includes a checkbox for sending the treats as a gift or to yourself. You can pick from 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months, depending on what you prefer. Phillips Chocolates also allows you to select any starting month, so if you're planning a gift for a special occasion, you can easily pre-order and have deliveries start for a holiday or birthday.

Every box is pre-planned

Each box you get will be pre-planned for the future months of the chocolate club, so you can easily see what to expect on Phillips Chocolates' page. Each package comes with either a single box of chocolates or an equivalent assortment of different items. Here's what the year of chocolate looked like at the time of our review:

  • January: All turtles
  • February: Sea salt caramels
  • March: Bark assortment and chocolate cherries
  • April: Spring-themed assortment and chocolate bars
  • May: Chocolate-covered favorites and specialties (like peanut butter cups).
  • June: Sea salt turtles
  • July: Fudge and royal hash
  • August: Boston and New England-themed with salt water taffy and chocolate-covered peanuts
  • September: Truffles and turtles
  • October: Candy apples, pumpkin fudge, and almond butter crunch
  • November: Peppermint patties and fudge
  • December: Peppermint bark and holiday assortment
Best Chocolate Clubs

Prices from $245 to $469 per plan

The pricing at Phillips Chocolates depends on which subscription length you pick for your chocolate club. The 6-month plan is $245, the 9-month plan is $350, and the 12-month plan is $469. Regrettably, Phillips Chocolates does not include the cost of shipping in its pricing. You will see a shipping cost based on your location when you check out. For our area, we were quoted shipping at $24.95.

Policy includes refunds for damaged items

You can't make any returns to Phillips Chocolates due to the chocolate club shipments containing food items. On the other hand, the company does offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee for damaged or missing items. If you aren't completely satisfied with the quality of what you receive, Phillips Chocolates says you can contact them within 3 business days after receiving your chocolates to get the issue resolved through a refund or reship. There are no promises for partial refunds for the subscription, however.

A favorite for those who like homemade treats

At the time of our review, Phillips Chocolates did not have a page on the Better Business Bureau. There also weren't reviews for this chocolate club on trusted third-party review sites like Trustpilot or Sitejabber. Instead, we had to rely on what our research turned up on Yelp. Phillips Chocolates has a few reviews on that platform, since you can visit in person in Boston, and it shows an average rating of 4.1 stars out of 5. Phillips Chocolates earns particular praise for its top-notch customer service and the homemade excellence of the flavors. So, if you're looking for something that has that mom-and-pop feel, Phillips Chocolates will be worth your while.

Great for fans of turtles and truffles

If you're interested in a family-run chocolatier, Phillips Chocolates is going to be worth a look. This is a great site for fan favorites like nut clusters, toffees, and bonbons. However, Phillips Chocolates' chocolate club is a little more costly than some competitors, and the shipping costs aren't included. Plus, with refunds only stated for individual items (and usually only if there's a defect), you might not be able to get your money back if you don't like this chocolate club. But it's still a good option for the wide variety you can look forward to throughout the year. For this reason, Phillips Chocolates earns a balanced rating in our review with the opportunity to get a higher score if it brings in more third-party reviews in the future.

On the Chocolate of the Month Club website

Chocolate of the Month Club is one of the many clubs offered by the Clubs of America company. Standing out as one of the sites that offers a one-stop shop for different kinds of subscription clubs, you'll find plenty of options outside of the chocolate club. The Chocolate of the Month Club, specifically, includes a customizable subscription with pre-selected chocolates, with a wide range of tasty treats each shipment period.

Pick from 2- to 12-month plans

To get signed up for the Chocolate of the Month Club, you'll need to select how many months you'd like to receive shipments. There are options for between 2 and 12 months, which offer a greater amount of flexibility than most other chocolate clubs. You can also decide how often you want to receive your shipments (monthly, every 2 months, or every 3 months). Finally, you can decide which month you want your shipments (or the shipments to a loved one) to start. The only drawback to Chocolate of the Month Club is that you don't have an option for a recurring monthly payment. So, all of the subscriptions here will be prepaid.

1 pound of chocolate clusters

Your chocolate club box will come with one pound of chocolate in each package. All the chocolates are going to be gourmet and hand-dipped by a pro confectioner. Most of the chocolates are going to be along the lines of nut clusters or bark. Previous shipments have included macadamia delights, truffles, chocolate mousse, turtles, and more. So, if you like chocolate treats with a little crunch, this will be right up your alley.

Best Chocolate Clubs

Pricing from $119.90 to $683.40 per subscription

Depending on the plan you choose, the overall price will change. While the primary pricing is listed monthly for this chocolate club, Chocolate of the Month Club will require you to pay for the entire period in full at checkout, since it doesn't offer monthly payments. Here's how that shakes out:

  • 2 month club: $119.90
  • 3 month club: $176.85
  • 4 month club: $235.80
  • 6 month club: $347.70
  • 12 month club: $683.40

While the costs are a bit higher (around $59. 95 per box), shipping at Chocolate of the Month Club is completely free of charge.

No refunds for subscriptions

At the time of our review, Chocolate of the Month Club did not offer any refunds for its clubs. Clubs of America's terms and conditions page notes that there is a strict "no refund" policy for membership fees. So, if you cancel your chocolate club subscription partway through a 12-month program, you won't get any money back (even a partial refund) for unused months. Other issues that may include reshipment or possible refunds, like damaged items or melted chocolates, will be handled on a "case-by-case" basis.

Solid BBB scores, but no other trusted reviews

Chocolate of the Month Club currently holds an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, but it's hard to find any reviews for this service (whether it's under the parent company of Clubs of America or the Chocolate of the Month Club label). While there were a few reviews out there for the wine club by Clubs of America, we couldn't find much at all regarding the chocolate club. This raises some red flags about how popular this subscription is. There's no question that it's a legit site, but it seems not many people are buying the chocolate club in particular.

Needs to work on its variety and reviews

At the end of the day, there isn't much about Chocolate of the Month Club that stands out from the pack. This chocolate club is more costly than some competitors, and it mostly focuses on nut clusters and crunchy chocolate treats. While these can be fun, the lack of variety may not appeal to all chocolate fans. On top of that, the lackluster (nonexistent) refund policy for the subscriptions keeps Chocolate of the Month Club from being particularly competitive. While the high BBB score for this company keeps it from the truly lowest rankings, it could do some more work on its reputation on third-party review sites to earn a higher spot in our review.

On the Mystery Chocolate Box website

Mystery Chocolate Box is a unique chocolate club subscription that has completely secret boxes of chocolate in every shipment. Focusing on artisanal chocolate bars, this company wants to surprise you with a fun package each month. On top of offering chocolate to you, Mystery Chocolate Box also donates meals to charities with every purchase that you make, so you can feel good about treating yourself and someone in need at the same time.

Only a 3-month membership available

To start your subscription at Mystery Chocolate Box, you just need to choose a subscription length: all of the chocolate club subscription options are prepaid. However, this does make Mystery Chocolate Box particularly good for sending as a gift to someone else. The site appears to show 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months for your subscription length options with increasing discounts (when broken down in monthly costs) as you go up. On the other hand, a closer look shows that you can only actually subscribe to the 3-month plan. The other two have a "discontinued" notice on them, and they can't be added to the cart.

Every box is a surprise

In each box, you get three full-size chocolate bars, but beyond that, you won't know anything about the chocolate until it arrives. The chocolate club at Mystery Chocolate Box includes hints to guide your tasting and a guessing card, so your chocolates become a fun game and not just treats. If you submit your guesses on your Mystery Chocolate Box account, you'll win points, which you can use to redeem items or get a free Mystery Chocolate Box club box. If you're looking for a preview of the types of chocolate bars, Mystery Chocolate Box does show its previous boxes. For example, one box came with a dark chocolate bar with mint, a chocolate bar with cherry and chili, and a milk chocolate bar with cashews. Another box included dark chocolate with lemon and juniper, dark chocolate with cranberries and cashews, and milk chocolate with blueberries.

Best Chocolate Clubs

Priced at $73.95 with shipping included

Since you can only subscribe to the 3-month plan, we only priced out that option. Frustratingly, before you get to the purchase window, Mystery Chocolate Box states that its chocolate club is $67.95 with a smaller "+S/H" to indicate this is not a price that includes shipping. The final price does, but the cost goes up to $73.95, which may be a surprise for those who don't read the listing page carefully. There are, thankfully, no other cost-related surprises after that.

Refunds prorated for unused months

Mystery Chocolate Box allows you to cancel your chocolate club subscription at any time, but you will not be refunded for any boxes that have already been sent to your home. However, the company does offer a "pro-rate" refund for boxes that haven't been shipped yet. So, you can expect to get your money back for unused months of your chocolate club.

Very few reviews and none from this year

Mystery Chocolate Box is not rated by the Better Business Bureau, nor does it have ratings on trusted review sites like Trustpilot or Sitejabber. There are some reviews on the Mystery Chocolate Box site that show the chocolate club itself averages about 4 stars, but this only includes 2 total reviews for the 3-month box. One review is just 3 stars and said that there were issues with shipping costs increasing after the purchase was complete. Total shipping for this customer (who left her review back in 2022) raised the total price to over $100 for the subscription. The other review is a full 5 stars, though, and recommends Mystery Chocolate Box for gifting, specifically. The most concerning thing is that we haven't seen reviews newer than 2022 for the subscription.

Worth looking at for low-cost bars

While the price isn't bad for a 3-month subscription, which keeps Mystery Chocolate Box competitive, we would love to see more feedback for this company. The fact that the chocolate club doesn't have any more recent reviews than 2022, and two of the three plans are discontinued, raises some questions about how up-to-date Mystery Chocolate Box really is. For these reasons, Mystery Chocolate Box earns a rating just below average, but it's still worth looking at if you like chocolate bars and want a service that's slightly less costly than competitors.

On the Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club website

Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club is a chocolate club managed by the parent company MonthlyClubs, and it includes a variety of handmade "artisanal" chocolates in each box. This chocolate club has been around since 1994 and promises an award-winning experience with chocolate. The selection of the chocolates that are shipped out in each box is overseen by Katheen Calef, who has been a chocolate expert for over 30 years.

Pick as many boxes as you like

To sign up for the chocolate club at Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club, you'll click the "customize your membership" button to get started. You'll be asked a few questions like whether or not the box is a gift, the number of shipments you would like (from 2-12), or if you'd prefer an ongoing subscription. You'll also be asked what month you'd like your shipments to start arriving. Finally, you'll get to pick how frequently you want your shipments delivered: monthly, every other month, or quarterly.

Plenty of bonbons in each box

Each box will include around 1 pound of chocolate from chocolatiers around the world. This chocolate club includes premium ingredients and handcrafted small-batch chocolates. You'll also get a newsletter with tasting notes, profiles on the chocolatiers, and suggestions for how to serve the chocolates. Recent shipments include Four Brothers Chocolates, Torn Ranch bonbons, Millesime Chocolat, The Secret Chocolatier bonbons (a confectioner you'll find reviewed separately on our list), Dolfin Chocolates (squares), and Ethereal Confections clusters.

Prices at $52.95 per month or $208.35 to $833.40 prepaid

In general, the cost for the chocolate club at Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club is $52.95 per month (for the ongoing membership). If you want to prepay for a specific number of shipments, you'll be paying the full-price cost for all those boxes at once. Here's what you can expect from Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club's options:

  • 2 shipments: $138.90
  • 3 shipments: $208.35
  • 4 shipments: $277.80
  • 5 shipments: $347.25
  • 6 shipments: $416.70
  • 7 shipments: $486.15
  • 8 shipments: $555.60
  • 9 shipments: $625.05
  • 10shipments: $694.50
  • 11 shipments: $763.95
  • 12 shipments: $833.40

Unfortunately, each package also costs $16.50 in shipping, on top of the price of the box.

Satisfaction guarantee included

Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee that promises that everything you buy from this chocolate club will meet your standards. If it doesn't, Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club promises to replace the items that weren't working for you or refund your purchase. This is helpful, though it is not clear if the refund also includes what you paid for shipping. However, only the open-ended subscriptions can be cancelled at any time. The other memberships will finish out through their term, and there's no mention of a refund for those months if you want to get out early.

Mixed reviews with reports of poor quality chocolates

Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club is owned by MonthlyClubs, which currently holds an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau. However, finding reviews for this service is a little more difficult. Some third-party retailers offer the Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club (specifically, the three-month subscription), but a good deal of the reviews left there are 1-star ratings. Customers note that they felt they "wasted" their money on the Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club. The chocolate club's treats didn't taste good and were nothing like the chocolates pictured. Many of the reviewers felt that they were "ripped off" by the company due to the poor quality of the treats.

Concerning quality, not worth the hassle

At the end of the day, if you're going to prepay for chocolate (and have to pay shipping fees too), those chocolates better be excellent. Concerning reports that the chocolates in the boxes aren't similar to the pictured chocolates or tasty at all causes Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club to get a lower ranking in our review. You may want to check one of our higher-rated and more reliable chocolate clubs instead. For now, Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club gets a score reflecting the concerning reviews about quality.

On the Harry & David website

Harry & David is a website known for its gourmet gifts, offering a one-stop shop for plenty of subscription clubs and treats. The chocolate club at Harry & David is just one of its many offerings. The company got its start as a well-known gourmet gifts site back in 1934, when it primarily offered fruit gift baskets. Since then, the company has expanded to include gourmet food, wine, flowers, gourmet meats, meals, and, of course, the chocolate club.

Pick your time frame and register

To join the chocolate club at Harry & David, you just need to select a few quick options, and you're ready to go. To build your club, you'll pick a length of time from 3, 6, or 12 months, when you want your club to start, and whether or not you want a deluxe upgrade on your first month. Beyond that, all you need to do to sign up is to add your chocolate club to the shopping cart, and you're all set.

Around a pound of bonbons per box

Each chocolate club box is a different experience each month, and unlike some of the sites in our review, Harry & David lets you know what you can expect in future boxes. For example, the box for the current month during our review included 24 dark chocolate truffles, 4 blueberry chocolates, 4 cherry chocolates, 4 extra dark ganaches, 4 double espresso, and 4 chocolate decadence. The total weight of each box is around 1 pound of chocolate. All of the recent and future boxes were filled with bonbons and truffles, so you can expect that style of chocolate in your shipments.

Best Chocolate Clubs

Prices from $114.99 to $429.99

The cost for the chocolate club boxes at Harry & David will depend on the club length that you choose. For three months of chocolates, you can expect to pay $114.99. For 6 months, the cost is $219.99, and for 12 months, the cost is $429.99, which is noticeably lower than many competitors. On top of that, there is a savings option for new subscribers that offers a coupon code for up to $75 off your first purchase. Regrettably, you will have to pay for shipping unless you join the Harry & David "Passport" membership, which costs $29.99 per year and includes free shipping on most items. If you don't have free shipping, the cost for shipping is based on the total price. For example, shipments between $100 and $125 will cost $23.99 in shipping. For anything $150 and over, the shipping fee will be 17% of the order total (which will apply to the 6- and 12-month plans).

Refund or replacement any time

Harry & David offers a guarantee that your treats will "delight" you, or they will make it right. There are options for both the replacement of specific items and refunds. There are no timeline requirements, just the offer to reach out to Harry & David at any time to get the matter resolved if you're not happy with the items in your chocolate club (or any of their other clubs on order).

Terrible reviews for every aspect of the clubs

Harry & David has a top-notch rating on the Better Business Bureau with a perfect "A+" rating. However, that's where the good news stops. According to our research, Harry & David has a 1.2-star average rating on Trustpilot with over 1,200 individual verified reviews. Harry & David has tons of complaints that include incorrect orders, missing deliveries, no resolution from customer service, and food that doesn't taste good when it actually arrives. We also couldn't find any reviews on Trustpilot that mentioned the chocolate club specifically, raising some questions about that club's popularity on Harry & David. Almost all recent reviews warn customers away because of the "non-existent customer service." For many who needed refunds, there was no recourse from Harry & David, and customers regularly couldn't get in contact with the service team. Yikes.

Look for a more reliable club

If you're looking for a chocolate club you can trust, it isn't going to be Harry & David. This company has some of the worst reviews we've seen for a subscription service that includes food. With irate customers complaining about poor quality, bad customer service, and no follow-through on Harry & David's promises for refunds or replacements, there's almost nothing to recommend this subscription over other, more reliable chocolate clubs out there. Plus, with high shipping rates, you can't even take advantage of the seemingly lower costs.

On the Jackie's Chocolate website

Jackie's Chocolate is a private chocolatier and candy store that specializes in unique chocolate-covered treats, fruits, and candies that will make your gifting (or a treat for yourself) colorful and fun. With everything from chocolate-dipped Oreos to homemade salted caramel pretzel clusters, these crunchy treats are a fun way to try completely new chocolate favorites from a chocolate-making pro. Especially popular on social media, Jackie's Chocolate offers all sorts of confections alongside its chocolate club subscription. However, the media popularity doesn't quite translate to true quality. Read on to see why.

Pick from one of three prepaid plans

To grab a chocolate club subscription from Jackie's Chocolate, you just need to pick from one of three subscription lengths and you're pretty much ready to go. These are great for gifting as you prepay for either a 3-, 6-, or 12-month plan, and everything is covered upfront. There is a 10% discount each time you choose a longer term: the 6-month chocolate club is 10% off (by month), and the 12-month chocolate club is 20% off the cost of the 3-month (if you calculate by each box). If you want your shipment to go out on a specific date for a gift, you can email Jackie's Chocolate with the order number and tell the service rep your desired start date.

Clusters and bonbons galore

Each shipment includes one box of chocolates, and you can expect an interesting assortment. All of the items will be chocolate, but may also have inclusions like nuts, caramels, marshmallows, and fruit. There are normally about 15 chocolates in every box. This may be a bit less than some other chocolate clubs in our review, which offer about a pound of chocolate generally. All of the boxes are wrapped and packaged with cooling to help them arrive safely.

Best Chocolate Clubs

Pricing from $149.95 to $479.95

There are only three prices for the packages at Jackie's Chocolate. The 3-month subscription is $149.95, the 6-month subscription is $269.95, and the 12-month subscription is $479.95. These are a bit lower in cost than some of the chocolate clubs in our review. Plus, all of the shipment frequencies at Jackie's Chocolate include free shipping, so you don't have any extra costs to worry about either.

No refunds for the subscription

Jackie's Chocolate only offers returns for items that are valued at $99 or less (so, this won't include your subscription box). Refunds for qualifying items are only for store credit, and you can't get a refund for specific months or boxes. According to the terms and conditions for Jackie's Chocolate, the subscription boxes for chocolate clubs don't have any kind of recourse available, so you'll get your chocolate even if you want to cancel.

No positive reviews for this service

Unfortunately, Jackie's Chocolate has one of the worst reputations in our review. This chocolate club holds an abysmal "F" rating on the Better Business Bureau. On top of that, it averages just 1.6 stars out of 5 on Trustpilot and 1.5 stars out of 5 on Sitejabber. Reviewers are particularly frustrated with the lack of refunds available for this service. One customer paid for his chocolate and never received a shipment. Despite never getting his order, Jackie's Chocolate still didn't offer him a refund. There are more and more negative reviews over the last two years about missing shipments, and no way to get a hold of customer service by phone or email.

Missing orders and no trust

Regrettably, this is hands-down our worst-rated chocolate club. While things like smaller-than-average boxes of chocolate could be forgivable if they were good chocolates, the fact that customers are routinely not receiving their orders is a major red flag. With low ratings across all third-party review sites, this sounds more like a social media fad than a trustworthy chocolatier. For these reasons, Jackie's Chocolate earns one of our lowest ratings and a warning that you might not want to put money in for chocolate you're never going to see.

Which Chocolate Clubs Are the Best?

Decadent, sweet, creamy, or dark, chocolate is the confection for a truly memorable dessert. Whether your favorite is bonbons with special flavors inside, chocolate bars, or even chocolate-covered strawberries, there's a chocolate treat out there for everyone. With sweet milk chocolate, smooth white chocolate, or the wonderful bitter-yet-smooth flavor of dark chocolate on offer, you can enjoy a wide variety of treats any time. It's the ideal sweet for a loved one (anniversary gift, anyone?), or just a way to enjoy a little something delicious for yourself during the day. We get it - chocolate's where it's at.

Finding really outstanding chocolate can be a journey. Whether you're looking for German chocolate that melts in your mouth, Russian chocolate with that clean snap and smooth flavor, or chocolate confections with surprises of praline, raspberry, or caramel inside, getting the treat you're craving is important. Sometimes it's hard to find the best chocolates at local grocery stores, where you mostly find candies (which are tasty but not always the right thing). While searching for a local confectioner can be fun too, finding your chocolates online, or better yet, through a chocolate club, is the easiest way to get great deals, fantastic flavors, and exactly what you're looking for without any extra work.

And, if you're a true chocolate fan, the chocolate clubs are going to be your jam. These take everything you love about getting your chocolate fix and add in the benefit of regular shipments, so you never run out of chocolates again. Chocolate club subscription services are ideal for chocolate fans who want a regular supply or those looking to try different flavors or brands every month. You can choose your shipment times, schedule your shipments, and even decide when you want your chocolate to start arriving. That way, you can get your chocolate on your time with total flexibility.

On top of the benefit of a regular supply of sweet treats, signing up for a chocolate club can get you new flavors from around the world, too. So, if you're tired of store-shelf chocolates or the basic heart-shaped box, grabbing a monthly chocolate club is the top way to expand your confectionery horizons. If you're someone who enjoys treats that are a little more familiar, there are chocolate clubs for that, too, so you can always get your favorites and have them in stock in your home pantry.

There are so many reasons to subscribe to a chocolate club: as a gift, as a snack, as an "I'm thinking of you," or just a way to treat yourself. But, with so many sites offering chocolate clubs, it can be hard to find the best pick. To make it easier, we simplified things with a quick list of factors that can help you decide:

No matter what your reasons are for grabbing some, you can't go wrong with chocolate (yes, that's our completely unbiased opinion). So, don't stress about finding the best chocolate clubs out there. That's what we're here for. Top Consumer Reviews has done the work to research and rank some of today's most popular subscriptions. This way, you can sit back and enjoy your chocolate treats with zero stress, just like you deserve. Bon appétit!

Chocolate Club FAQ

Where does the Chocolate come from?
That depends on the club you select. Some chocolate clubs specialize in single-source, small-batch chocolates that are hand-crafted by artisans around the world. Others provide a more traditional experience with boxed chocolates or bars you might find in a specialty store near you.
How often will the Chocolate be delivered?
Most chocolate clubs give you a range of options: monthly, every other month, or quarterly. You can usually choose how many total deliveries you would like as well, from three-month plans to a full year.
Are Chocolate clubs expensive?
They can be, but you'll find affordable options too. On average, your chocolate club will cost somewhere between $17 and $59 per month. Most clubs include shipping in those prices.
Is there a satisfaction guarantee?
Many chocolate clubs go the extra mile to make sure that you - or your lucky gift recipient - are 100% satisfied with every delivery, giving you a full refund or shipping a replacement if something isn't right. However, not every company provides this level of customer service. It's a good idea to check out the policies (and reputation) of each club before making your purchase.
My chocolate is going someplace warm. Will it melt?
Chocolate is a great year-round gift, and the best chocolate clubs take care to package each shipment with the weather and destination in mind. Ice packs and insulation may be included, to help keep the chocolate in perfect condition while en route.
Are Chocolate clubs legitimate?
Absolutely! Some of the top chocolate clubs have been around for decades, with a long track record of customer satisfaction.
What about allergies? Can I customize my deliveries if there's something I can't have?
That's a great question. If you or your recipient have food allergies, you'll need to consider the options very carefully. Unfortunately, most clubs don't let you customize your deliveries beforehand: "you get what you get". There are a few that let you preview each month's delivery and skip it for any reason, and some are developing an "allergy-free" club membership that avoids the top known allergens.
Do Chocolate clubs make good gifts?
Of course: who doesn't love chocolate? Chocolate clubs are a great way to send a little taste of joy for months to come. Your selected club may have gift options like emailed or printed announcements, gift wrapping, or add-on treats and toys to make your deliveries even more special. Many chocolate clubs also include a fun newsletter, providing interesting facts about chocolate, the background of the specific chocolates in the box, and even recipes!
