Only a 3-month membership available
To start your subscription at Mystery Chocolate Box, you just need to choose a subscription length: all of the chocolate club subscription options are prepaid. However, this does make Mystery Chocolate Box particularly good for sending as a gift to someone else. The site appears to show 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months for your subscription length options with increasing discounts (when broken down in monthly costs) as you go up. On the other hand, a closer look shows that you can only actually subscribe to the 3-month plan. The other two have a "discontinued" notice on them, and they can't be added to the cart.
Every box is a surprise
In each box, you get three full-size chocolate bars, but beyond that, you won't know anything about the chocolate until it arrives. The chocolate club at Mystery Chocolate Box includes hints to guide your tasting and a guessing card, so your chocolates become a fun game and not just treats. If you submit your guesses on your Mystery Chocolate Box account, you'll win points, which you can use to redeem items or get a free Mystery Chocolate Box club box. If you're looking for a preview of the types of chocolate bars, Mystery Chocolate Box does show its previous boxes. For example, one box came with a dark chocolate bar with mint, a chocolate bar with cherry and chili, and a milk chocolate bar with cashews. Another box included dark chocolate with lemon and juniper, dark chocolate with cranberries and cashews, and milk chocolate with blueberries.

Since you can only subscribe to the 3-month plan, we only priced out that option. Frustratingly, before you get to the purchase window, Mystery Chocolate Box states that its chocolate club is $67.95 with a smaller "+S/H" to indicate this is not a price that includes shipping. The final price does, but the cost goes up to $73.95, which may be a surprise for those who don't read the listing page carefully. There are, thankfully, no other cost-related surprises after that.
Refunds prorated for unused months
Mystery Chocolate Box allows you to cancel your chocolate club subscription at any time, but you will not be refunded for any boxes that have already been sent to your home. However, the company does offer a "pro-rate" refund for boxes that haven't been shipped yet. So, you can expect to get your money back for unused months of your chocolate club.
Very few reviews and none from this year
Mystery Chocolate Box is not rated by the Better Business Bureau, nor does it have ratings on trusted review sites like Trustpilot or Sitejabber. There are some reviews on the Mystery Chocolate Box site that show the chocolate club itself averages about 4 stars, but this only includes 2 total reviews for the 3-month box. One review is just 3 stars and said that there were issues with shipping costs increasing after the purchase was complete. Total shipping for this customer (who left her review back in 2022) raised the total price to over $100 for the subscription. The other review is a full 5 stars, though, and recommends Mystery Chocolate Box for gifting, specifically. The most concerning thing is that we haven't seen reviews newer than 2022 for the subscription.
Worth looking at for low-cost bars
