If you pick standard (5-8 business days) shipping, the cost is $18.95. For 2-day shipping, the price will go up to $46.63, and for UPS next-day the cost is $63.06. These were all prices for our location, so the final cost may be different depending on where you live.

The reviews were just as good on Tripadvisor where Russell Stover holds a 4.5-star average. There is one snag, though: some of the chocolates may be out of stock, which is something you won't see until you click on the listing.

Regrettably, shopping is quite expensive at Astor Chocolate. We were offered two shipping options for our area. The least costly was $20.95 for 2-day shipping. The only other option was next-day shipping for $34.95. Astor Chocolate's shipping policy states that the cost of shipping will vary depending on the size of your order. However, you are getting insulation with your shipment to keep your chocolates from melting in transit.

No policy for refunds

At the time of our review, Astor Chocolate does not offer any kind of return policy. They will not accept any returns of food items. If you have damage or an issue with your order when it arrives, you are invited to contact Astor Chocolate so they can "evaluate the issue”. There is no specific promise for a refund or reshipment in any case.

Praise for texture, but not many reviews

Currently, there aren't a lot of reviews out there for Astor Chocolate. Shipping between $15 to $60 depending on the date

To see shipping costs, you'll need to select a delivery date during checkout. We tried a couple of different dates, and the costs did change depending on when we wanted our chocolate delivered. For example, one day was $15 for 2-day shipping and another charged $28 for the same shipping speed. The highest shipping charge we saw was $60 for overnight shipping.

No listed details on refunds

As with many of the chocolatiers in our review, Vosges Chocolate does not allow for any returns of its chocolates as the items are perishable. However, if you're unsatisfied for any reason, Vosges Chocolate asks that you reach out to their concierge. But, at the time of our review, there were no promises on whether or not you will get a refund or reshipment in the case of a problem.

More negative comments in recent years

At the time of our review Vosges Chocolate held a "B-” rating from the Better Business Bureau. The reason for the lower-than-average rating is that Vosges Chocolate has failed to respond to complaints filed against the business. On third-party review sites like Trustpilot, there is only 1 total review for Vosges Chocolate. Instead, we checked out its reputation on Tripadvisor. Vosges Chocolate has a 4-star average rating there, but the most recent reviews were all 1 or 2 stars. There were complaints about reliability, how costly the chocolates were, and the lack of care for customers when resolving issues. While Vosges Chocolate remains the "favorite chocolate place” for many reviewers, we're a bit concerned about the increasing number of negative reviews.

Today Hotel Chocolat has 126 stores in the UK and serves a range of bars and restaurants. The chocolate is all made in Cambridge, UK. More recently Hotel Chocolat began offering its chocolates and gift boxes in Japan and the USA (as of 2023).

Browsing for chocolates at Hotel Chocolat makes you feel like you've stepped into a mix of Willy Wonka and a Cambridge Library. The warm and inviting website makes it simple to find chocolate gift boxes. All you need to do is click "Chocolate” on the navigation bar, and you'll see a scrolling list of the collections and boxes offered at Hotel Chocolat. Each listing shows a photo of the entire "collection” with a short description. Some of the items have a maximum purchase allowance (so you can't buy more than two of the festive collections, for example), and a "Shop Now” button to take you to the purchase page for individual packages. Once you get to a specific listing page, you'll see a more detailed description of everything you'll find in the collection, a full list of ingredients and allergens, and the shipping policies.

There were 4 different chocolate gift boxes at Hotel Chocolat at the time of our review. These may rotate seasonally, as all of them qualify as "festive” collections. The bundles and collections include a variety of chocolate treats, including an all-milk chocolate collection, a dark chocolate collection, an "everything” collection, and the "Ultimate Bundle” which includes a Velevetiser Starter Kit for making your own hot chocolate. You can find classic chocolates, chocolate almonds, chocolate batons (like a Kit-Kat shape), and a range of cute chocolate designs in fun shapes like Caramel Penguins. Across the different boxes, we found around 14 individual flavors of chocolates, though Hotel Chocolat lacked some transparency on the exact details of the flavors. You're left to kind of sleuth out the contents by checking the ingredients list, which doesn't separate out ingredients by each chocolate, regrettably.

Pricing from $150 to $540

Pricing is simple at Hotel Chocolat, but it isn't cheap. The Milk and Dark collections are $150 each, the Everything Collection is $250, and the Ultimate Bundle is $540. There are occasionally sales that help with this cost. For example, at the time of our review, there was a promotion on the Ultimate Bundle that made that particular chocolate gift box $400 instead. There is also the opportunity to get 10% off by reading through the history of the company in a popup window and going through a little interactive story. Once you're finished, you'll just have to add your name and email address to get the discount.

Shipping is free on orders $50+

If you spend more than $50 at Hotel Chocolat, you'll qualify for free standard shipping (2-5 days) to any address in the contiguous US. Since all of the chocolate gift boxes offered by Hotel Chocolat are well over $50, you can be sure to get free shipping any time you order. While it doesn't make the boxes more affordable, it does help keep costs down (and avoid any sticker shock when you check out).

There isn't a specific refund policy for Hotel Chocolat, but the company offers a Happiness Guarantee listed on every single item in its inventory. Regrettably, Hotel Chocolat holds a "C” rating from the Better Business Bureau, and there are currently no reviews on the BBB for this chocolatier. We did find plenty of reviews on Trustpilot during our research. Over 50,000 customers have left reviews for Hotel Chocolat with an average rating of 3.9 stars out of 5. There is ample praise for the delivery and quality of the chocolate. One reviewer said the flavor of her chocolates was "absolute heaven” and that she plans to buy Hotel Chocolat's sweets on repeat. Most of the poor reviews show that customers ordered Hotel Chocolat sweets from other vendors, and owed most of their complaints to the delivery service through that vendor rather than Hotel Chocolat itself.

La Maison Du Chocolat also participates in some of the greatest chocolate sculptures in the world with a dedicated team of "chocolate goldsmiths” that sculpt chocolate for days to create art from one of the most decadent treats in the world.

Everything you need at a glance

While there are plenty of amazing chocolates to look at on La Maison Du Chocolat's website, finding the chocolate gift boxes is a breeze. You can find them easily on the "Chocolates” tab on the navigation bar. From there, the first item in the list is the chocolate gift boxes or "Chocolate Assortments” as they appear on the scrolling page. Each listing has a photo of the chocolates in their packaging, a brief description of the items (including any allergens), star ratings, and the price. You can basically see everything you need at a glance without even clicking on the individual listing. When you click through, you can see an expanded description of every chocolate in the box with photos to showcase which flavor is which.

A more middle-range selection is a 24pc Coffret Maison Milk for $80. And, of course, the 144pc Coffret Maison Dark and Milk Chocolate is at the top of the price range at $300. La Maison Du Chocolat also offers some vegan options like the Fruit Naturally Gift Box for $60.

Shipping starts at $20.88

Shipping is a little costly at La Maison Du Chocolat. If you spend over $150 you can score free shipping, but if you don't quite meet the threshold, you may be paying quite a bit in shipping costs. For our area, we were quoted $20.88 for 2-day shipping through FedEx and $27.19 for overnight shipping. There were no options for shipping that were less costly at the time of our review. You may get different numbers depending on your location, however.

Hard to find mention of refunds

The policies for refunds are hidden in the legal section of the site under the General Terms of Sales for La Maison Du Chocolat. Returns are accepted only if there is a "prior written agreement” and only if you make the return no more than 48 hours after you receive the chocolate. If La Maison Du Chocolat accepts the return, you can get a free replacement or a refund. However, it seems like the cases for this to be accepted are rare. And if something goes wrong and your chocolates arrive melted? We didn't spot any kind of satisfaction guarantee here: there may be one, but it would be helpful if they spelled it out in some way.

Mixed feedback depends on which location you visit

At the time of our review, La Maison Du Chocolat did not have a page on the Better Business Bureau or on third-party review sites like Trustpilot or Sitejabber. We did find reviews for this chocolatier on Yelp and Tripadvisor, but the feedback varied depending on which location customers visited. One retail location had a solid 4.1-star average through Yelp, whereas another had a 1-star average on Tripadvisor. In general, customers who loved La Maison Du Chocolat praised the thick and creamy quality of the chocolates; however, even fans noted that the prices are a little steep for what you get. Those who didn't like their La Maison Du Chocolat experience felt that the customer service needed an upgrade (both in person and online).

This chocolate shop has a rich history, including being appointed official chocolatier to the Royal Court of Belgium in 1968. Today, Godiva is one of the largest premium chocolate companies out there. Godiva is also a member of the World Cocoa Foundation and Cocoa Horizons Foundation, to give back to the cocoa industry and promote sustainable farming practices.

Nearly the entire site is gift boxes

There are tons of chocolate treats on Godiva, and you can find everything from chocolate gift boxes to chocolate recipes to greeting cards. Almost all of the chocolates are in gift boxes (rather than bars or chocolate barks as we saw at other sites). You can jump into searching the gift boxes anywhere on the site, but if you want to see a more narrowed selection, you can use the navigation menu to click on Shop, Collections, and then Chocolate Gift Boxes. From there, you'll see a scrolling window with opened chocolate boxes in high-resolution photos that present truffles and chocolate treats in Godiva trays. The listings show a name, a price, and the number of stars each box has from other shoppers. When you click on a specific box, you'll see a detailed description of the chocolates included in the box, measurements, and detailed shipping information for that box.

At Godiva, there are 43 different chocolate gift boxes to choose from. These include assortments of chocolates with filling, truffles, and cordials. The boxes range in size from 9pc assortments to a 72pc gift box. Some of the unique flavors of truffles and chocolates we saw in the boxes include:

There are plenty more in the rest of the boxes with different truffles and chocolate flavors across the entire inventory. Some of the truffles even have cherry brandy or cinnamon and spices to make them more exciting. In the largest box, we saw 18 different flavors of chocolates to choose from.

Pricing from $15 to $130

The most affordable chocolate gift box at Godiva is the Dark Chocolate Cherry Cordials. This includes 6 of the same little round treats for $15. At the other end of the spectrum, the most costly gift box is the $130 Assorted Chocolate Gold Gift Box which includes a 72pc assortment of 18 flavors (4 of each flavor). Most of the boxes are identical in terms of flavors and sizing with only the color of the bows being different. Some of the bow colors (like red) were out of stock at the time of our review.

Shipping starts at $9.95.

The cost of shipping will change depending on how much you spend. For orders up to $24.99, the standard shipping cost will be $9.95 and 2-day delivery will be $18.95. If you order something between $25 to $59.99, shipping will cost $11.95 for standard and $21.95 for 2-day. For orders up to $99.99, standard shipping is $17.95 and 2-day is $27.95. Godiva also offers a Warm Weather Guarantee where the Godiva team monitors the package to make sure that your chocolates don't melt in transit.

Reshipments offered if something goes wrong

Godiva's satisfaction policy promises that your order is guaranteed to arrive in perfect condition. If you're not satisfied, you can contact their customer service team within 30 days of receiving your order for assistance with a replacement or exchange. Godiva promises to either replace your unsatisfactory item with the same item or another of equal or higher value. However, at this time, you cannot get a refund for an order through Godiva.

Dismal reviews for customer service

Godiva holds an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau; however, the reviews for this chocolatier are extremely concerning. On Trustpilot, Godiva shows an average rating of 1.5 stars out of 5. Most of the complaints have to do with the customer service experience. Customers noted that help with changing orders or resolving mistakes was not forthcoming. Complaints showcased regular problems with late delivery (even when next-day shipping was paid for), and many items were received damaged. Considering reshipment is the only option and many of these complaints were for chocolates ordered for particular holidays or events, the recourse offered by Godiva just isn't enough for most.

Don't expect a lot of customer care

Despite the long history of Godiva chocolate, getting your chocolate gift box from this retailer may not be the smoothest experience. While the low costs for shipping and a large selection of chocolate flavors may be appealing, the concerning reviews regarding Godiva's customer service and the total lack of any refunds make this site less reliable for your chocolate gift box needs. With 50+ years of experience, Simply Chocolate makes sure to find unique flavor profiles and artisanal chocolates for a mixture of fresh cremes, caramels, and ganaches.

The cost of shipping isn't cheap at Simply Chocolate, and seeing your cart total change before you buy can be a bit shocking. We were quoted $24.98 for shipping in our area, and there were no other options for different shipping speeds. When tax was added on top of that, our $49.99 box of chocolates was updated to $79.84 in total. But, you can get free shipping at Simply Chocolate with the Passport membership we referenced earlier. This costs $19.99 the first year (still less costly than the price of shipping) and you'll get free shipping on every order. This applies to most items at Simply Chocolate, but not all, so make sure you check that the chocolate box you want qualifies before subscribing.

Regrettably, Simply Chocolate currently holds an "NR” rating from the Better Business Bureau (meaning it isn't rated at this time). We also couldn't find reviews for this all-in-one site on Trustpilot or Sitejabber. There was a UK site under the same name on Trustpilot, but this isn't related to the US Simply Chocolate. The few individual listings that do have reviews on Simply Chocolate's website are almost all uniformly 5 stars, so we're not sure how curated those reviews are. At the moment, Simply Chocolate falls behind the pack by not having any reliable third-party reviews to support its reputation. Of course, as part of the 1-800-FLOWERS group (that also includes big names like The Popcorn Factory and Harry & David), you know that this chocolatier is backed by a larger corporation - but we'd still prefer to see more buzz about how well Simply Chocolate itself is doing.

Simply... not our favorite

Simply Chocolate seems like a great option at first, but without more details on its reputation, it's hard to know if this company is doing a consistently great job on delivering chocolate gift boxes.
