Offered by Vitabase, Cholesterol Support is a circulatory and heart supplement that can help improve cholesterol levels that aren't showing improvement through diet and exercise alone.
We weren't overly impressed by the Vitabase site. When we tried to use the Supplement Advisor through the link at the top of the website, we were taken to a blank page. The same thing happened when we spotted the Supplement Advisor on the main page and entered our gender and age. While it wasn't hard to navigate product pages like the one for Cholesterol Support, the overall feel of the website was outdated and had lots of text in small print.
But, there are still a lot of positives offered by Cholesterol Support. Taken as one tablet at each meal (3 tablets per day total), this supplement contains a long list of ingredients:
Best of all, Vitabase provides ample evidence for how each ingredient can help you lower your cholesterol levels or maintain your already-healthy levels. You'll see a short description of each ingredient on the product page, and you'll find many more links for additional information at the bottom of the page.
Vitabase also offers a rewards program; you're automatically signed up when you create an account with the business, and you'll earn one point for every dollar you spend. Your points will expire if you don't place at least one order every 6 months.
The store has a 60-day refund policy if you decide that Cholesterol Support isn't working for you. You can only get a refund on one opened bottle of the supplement, and on any unopened bottles. You'll need to contact Vitabase for an RMA in order to be eligible for a refund, and you may have to pay a 10% restocking fee.
Vitabase has a good reputation: an "A+" with the Better Business Bureau and a history spanning nearly two decades. While we had to search for the product on a third-party site (you'll find the link right underneath the Cholesterol Support product image) to see customer reviews, the dozen we found were almost all positive. Some people said that you'll probably have to use Cholesterol Support for several months before seeing a change, which can be tricky with a 60-day return policy. We'd love to see Vitabase extend that policy to 6 months or even a year, especially since most of our highest-rated products already have that.
In the past, many doctors relied on prescription medications that used statins to lower levels of "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) levels. But, according to the Mayo Clinic, these drugs come with a scary list of potential side effects: muscle pain, liver damage, and even a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, just to name a few.
However, the CDC still recommends that people with high cholesterol - typically considered to be a total reading of 200+, LDL levels of 100+, HDL levels less than 60, or triglycerides of 150+ - make the effort to improve their numbers. Why? If you have high blood cholesterol, you have a higher-than-average risk of heart disease and stroke, two of the leading causes of death in the US.
Of course, the best course of action is to not develop high cholesterol in the first place. But, for people who have tried to improve their eating habits, lose weight, get regular physical activity, limit alcohol consumption and quit smoking and still find themselves facing high cholesterol levels, what options are available?
The good news? It is possible to achieve healthy levels of blood cholesterol without the negative side effects associated with taking statins. How? Through all-natural supplements that can work in conjunction with other healthy habits, effectively lowering bad cholesterol and increasing good cholesterol.
When considering these products, how can you decide which one will be the most effective in reducing your high cholesterol? You'll want to evaluate each supplement according to the following criteria:
