Which Coffee Club is the Best?  For centuries, coffee has been more than just a vehicle for your caffeine fix - it's been a catalyst for connection, creativity, and culture around the world. From elegant cafes in Paris to quiet mountain villages in Colombia, this beloved beverage has brought people together and fueled countless conversations, ideas, and dreams.
Coffee Bros is a young coffee roasting company started by brothers Dan and Nick in 2019. The company sources beans from all over the world, including countries like Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, and Kenya. Coffee Bros wants to offer excellent coffee and help coffee farmers at the same time. They do this by partnering directly with coffee-growing communities. To make sure their coffee tastes great, they buy beans when they're in season and clearly mark the roasting date on each bag.
Your coffee is selected by you, not by an algorithm
At Coffee Bros, you have to select the coffee you want delivered, unlike some coffee clubs that surprise you each month with a new selection based on your answers to a preference quiz. There is a coffee preference quiz that can generate suggestions for you, but it's hidden under the "Learn" tab and your results don't automatically influence what you receive in your subscription. Your caffeine delivery can be scheduled to arrive from as frequently as every week to as infrequently as every 8 weeks.
Cupping scores are important to know
We liked that the quiz includes a question about what factors besides flavor would influence your purchase, such as whether the coffee is from an award-winning lot, the length of the relationship between the roaster and the producer, whether it's a well-known varietal, and whether it has a high cupping score. For those unfamiliar, a cupping score is based on aroma, flavor, body, acidity, sweetness, and balance. Commercial coffee usually scores around 79 points, while very good coffee ranges between 80-90. Each category receives a score, and then the total is calculated. The higher the score, the more complex the flavor. You'll see this scoring system referenced around the website.
30 coffees starting from $8.75
There are so many ways to browse at Coffee Bros (by roast, by origin, by flavor profile, by processing method) that it's probably less overwhelming to start by taking the quiz to find your jumping-off point. We wish it was a little easier to sort and filter all of their coffees in one place - you have to know which category you want to shop from before filtering tools become available. On the "All Coffee" tab, the categories displayed are Signature Series, New Arrivals, Single Origin, and Award-Winning Microlot Coffee. Altogether, they appear to have about 30 coffees to choose from. Many are priced around $17.99 for 12 oz, though there are some big-ticket coffees as well, like their award-winners.
"Cup of Excellence" winner
Coffee Bros has won the prestigious "Cup of Excellence" award multiple times, a rigorous competition evaluating quality among thousands of competitors judged by national and international juries. The winning coffees are auctioned at premium prices, so be aware that they fetch a pretty price on Coffee Bros' website too - between $35 and $60 for 6 or 8 oz bags.
Geek out
Each coffee's product description includes information about its taste notes, the processing, the origin, the producer, its varietal, pH, and even the altitude and its Agtron number. If you're not already as much of a nerd about coffee as to know what these things need, don't worry - they have guides upon guides to get you up to speed.
No detailed reviews to be found
One thing we couldn't find on the product pages at Coffee Bros were detailed customer reviews. There are star-ratings out of five, but no commentary available. There was not much in the way of third-party reviews of their company, either: nothing listed with the Better Business Bureau or Trustpilot. Even the "customer reviews" page that comes up for their website when you search Google with that term redirects you to their Mission page.
No free shipping
Coffee Bros ships orders within 1-3 business days if in stock. They don't ship coffee more than 5 days past its roast date. Out-of-stock orders may be held until the next roasting day (Saturdays). Some rare and limited coffees ship only once a month - check the product page for those specific shipping schedules. Unfortunately, shipping isn't free unless you order at least $50 worth of product. Shipping starts at $5 for economy (5-8 days), so make sure you factor that into the cost when comparing to other coffee clubs.
Rewards program is nice but not a selling point
Coffee Bros has a rewards program for shoppers with registered accounts. Every $1 you spend earns you 5 points, and you get 200 bonus points every year on your birthday. Every 100 points you earn amounts to $1 that you can redeem in exchange for coffee - which means, if you're purchasing one bag of coffee a month, it'll probably take you at least a year to accrue enough rewards points for one bag of coffee. It's better than nothing, but not by much.
Questionable data collection practices
One aspect of Coffee Bros' marketing strategy raised some eyebrows during our review process. We received a promotional email from the company, which wouldn't typically be cause for concern. However, we hadn't given our email address to Coffee Bros. Surprisingly, the email included our first and last name, which weren't associated with the Google account we used while browsing their site. This unexpected use of our personal information felt pretty intrusive and made us question their data collection practices. We don't think these aggressive tactics should be normalized, so we're docking half a star from their rating.
New but on a good track
To wrap it up, Coffee Bros offers a pretty solid subscription experience for coffee lovers. They've got a wide range of beans to choose from, with prices that can be competitive depending on what you're after. Coffee nerds will love the detailed info on each blend, but casual caffeinators won't feel overwhelmed. It's a bummer there's no free shipping on smaller orders and not many customer reviews to go off, but they're still relatively new to the game. If you're looking to explore some quality coffee options, Coffee Bros might be worth a shot.
Continued from above...
But for many of us, our daily cup has become routine instead of a moment to savor. If you find yourself stuck in a coffee rut, reaching for the same familiar-but-"meh" blend day after day, it might be time to shake things up with a coffee club subscription. Coffee clubs are perfect for coffee drinkers who want to explore flavors (and freshness) beyond what's available at their local grocery store.
Coffee clubs are also great for busy professionals who don't have time to hunt down specialty beans or for those who simply want the convenience of having freshly roasted coffee delivered right to their doorstep. Coffee clubs take the guesswork out of choosing new coffees - you get to benefit from expert curators' knowledge about tasting notes and brewing tips for the perfect morning cup of joe.
Coffee clubs range from specialized to generic. Some take pride in sourcing single-origin beans from a particular country, like Costa Rica. Others act as a middle-man for US-based independent roasters, helping you discover a new business or award-winning coffee every month. However, some are a bit one-note and lacking in customization options or variety.
The frequency of deliveries can vary too. Some clubs ship weekly, so you'll never run out of fresh beans. Others operate on a monthly basis, which might be better if you don't go through coffee as quickly. You'll also find differences in customization options - some clubs let you choose every coffee you receive, while others surprise you with new selections based on your taste preferences. Most coffee clubs have a quiz to help you figure out what those preferences are.

Why do people love coffee?
Are you one of the millions of Americans who start your day with a cup of coffee? This delicious beverage has been enjoyed around the globe for thousands of years. In fact, the history of coffee dates back to ancient Ethiopia. There, a goat herder observed his goats' sleeplessness at night after they ate the fruit from a specific tree. This ultimately led to the discovery that the fruit, which was coffee beans, provided a long-lasting energy boost to humans as well as animals. As word spread through the Arabian Peninsula and far beyond about the energy boost the beans provided, the popularity of coffee soared. The beverage was part of a morning ritual in many homes by the 15th century, and it was even enjoyed in public coffee houses hundreds of years ago.
While the popularity of foods and beverages waxes and wanes, coffee has proven that it has true staying power in cultures around the world. What has contributed to the continued popularity of coffee? This beverage has several notable traits that combine to make it unlike any other.
A Boost of Energy
Do you reach for a cup of coffee first thing in the morning to get your juices flowing? The average cup of coffee has far more caffeine than a cup of tea, so it is the perfect pick-me-up that enables you to hit the ground running. As a natural stimulant, the caffeine in a cup of coffee can give you a much-needed boost of energy. This may be why many people reach for their coffeepot first thing in the morning. They may also enjoy a copy of coffee immediately after lunch to have energy for the rest of their workday.
Notably, the caffeine in coffee does more than help you to feel more energetic. It can improve focus and alertness so that coffee drinkers can perform better at work and in other areas of life. The caffeine in a cup of coffee also plays a role in overall mental function, memory, mood and even metabolism. Because of the wide range of effects, many people simply have become accustomed to performing at a certain level and to deriving some of their daily energy from their morning or midday cup of coffee.
Caffeine can be addictive, but it is completely safe for most people to drink. If you enjoy the effects that coffee has on your energy level, mood and more on a daily basis, you may have developed an addiction to it. However, because of how positive the effects of coffee are on many aspects of your health and life, this is an addiction that you can feel great about satisfying on a daily basis.
A Daily Ritual
Humans are generally creatures of habit. We find comfort in routine. For many people who drink coffee, preparing coffee each morning is part of a daily ritual. This extends to smelling the coffee beans or grounds before the coffee starts to brew, listening to the familiar sounds from your coffeemaker and preparing the perfect cup with all of your favorite accompaniments. Well before the coffee hits your lips, you may derive pleasure from the ritual.
Of course, the practice of drinking coffee is also a part of many people's routines. Do you enjoy your steaming cup of coffee while you navigate through traffic on the way to work, while you are reading the morning paper or while you are browsing through emails and gearing up for a busy day at the office? If you are like many people, drinking coffee is as much a part of your daily routine as brushing your teeth, making the bed and putting your shoes on.
The ritual of drinking coffee may extend to the late afternoon and evening for some people. Because of the caffeine in coffee, some people avoid drinking it later in the day. However, the availability of decaffeinated coffee means that people can enjoy the many benefits of coffee at any hour of the day without concern.
Delicious Flavors
While some people prefer their coffee strong and black, there are many ways to dress up your favorite drink. Coffee beans are grown in areas around the world. Everything from where they are grown to how they are roasted, ground up and brewed will affect their flavor. On top of that, there are numerous types of coffee drinks that you can enjoy. Some people simply enjoy adding milk, cream or sugar to black coffee. Others love lattes, mochas, espressos and other beverages that are specially prepared. While warm or hot coffee is common, iced coffee is increasingly popular as well.
Some coffee beans are flavored, but there are other ways to add flavor to the beverage. For example, some coffeehouses add flavored syrups to warm or iced coffee upon request. There are also a seemingly endless number of flavored creamers that you can enjoy at home or at a coffee house. Some flavors are seasonal, such as peppermint cream or pumpkin spice. Others are popular year-round, such as Irish cream and hazelnut. With so many different ways to enjoy coffee, most people may easily have at least a few favorites that enjoy treating themselves to regularly.
A Social Community
Coffee has become such an important aspect of millions of people's daily lives that it has been adopted as part of the culture in many countries. This may have started hundreds of years ago at the first public coffeehouses, but it continues in a wide range of social environments today. For example, you and your coworkers may regularly meet up in the break room to enjoy a cup of java and good conversation. For some people, grabbing a cup of coffee is the perfect first date. It is casual, enjoyable and promotes a get-to-know-you conversation. Coffee is also enjoyed among friends, neighbors, and business partners at local coffee joints.
Of course, you do not need to step out of the house to enjoy the social aspect of coffee. Families may enjoy chatting over their morning coffee before they start their day. Dinner with extended family members may not be complete without coffee and dessert. The drink can be enjoyed over a deep conversation between great friends or over casual, light-hearted banter, so it is the perfect drink for camaraderie.
Health Benefits
While some of the benefits or attributes of coffee have been well-known for hundreds of years, the health benefits of coffee have only been discovered relatively recently. Coffee beans are loaded with potassium, magnesium, riboflavin and antioxidants. While some foods and beverages lose the potency of their nutritional benefits during the cooking or preparation process, this is not the case with coffee. A cup of coffee is packed with these same nutrients. Together, the benefits can do everything from promoting cardiovascular health and reducing depression to staving off a wide range of serious diseases. These include liver disease and cancer, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, diabetes and more. While many people may drink coffee for the pick-me-up it delivers and because they love the taste, the health benefits make this a beverage that you can feel good about enjoying on a daily basis.
While coffee is not universally enjoyed by all, it has been wildly popular in the U.S. and far beyond for centuries. Because of its extensive range of benefits and the wide range of prep methods available, it likely will continue to be both a quiet aspect of daily rituals and an important aspect of broader social interactions for many centuries to come.
