Coffee of the Month Club Review 2.5 Star Rating

Coffee of the Month Club

2.5 Star Rating
  • Pricing: $37.95 to $40.95 per month, with free shipping
  • Two 12-ounce bags of 100% Arabica coffee per delivery
  • Subscription lengths from 2 to 12 months
  • Delivery frequency options: monthly, every other month, or every three months
  • Option to send personalized messages with each order for gift subscriptions
  • 30 years of business experience with an "A+" BBB rating

Coffee of the Month Club operates under the parent company Clubs of America, which offers various clubs for perishables like pizza, chocolate, flowers, and even cigars. They have an "A+” BBB rating and have been in business for 30 years, with over 3 million packages delivered and 100,000 happy customers served. There are no unique selling points and not much potential for customization, though. It's kind of a "you get what you get” situation with these guys.

Mix and match with their other clubs

With clubs and subscription-based services becoming the norm, it looks like this company is losing its competitive edge day by day to companies that specialize in just one offering. The only advantage we can come up with here that you can't necessarily find with most other coffee clubs is the ability to mix and match your subscriptions. So, if you want coffee monthly as well as wine, you can do that in one place.

Coffees from around the world

The Coffee of the Month Club includes two 12 ounce bags of whole bean or ground 100% Arabica coffee and the coffee Expeditions newsletter with details about your selections and coffee in general. If you're gifting a subscription to someone else, you can send personalized messages with each order - a great way to regularly remind someone you love that they're on your mind. Past selections of this coffee club have included Guatemalan Faijanes, Celebes Kalossi, Indian Monsooned Malabar 99, and Zambia AA, to name a few.

Best Coffee Clubs

No decaf, no choice

Whereas other companies allow you to make changes to your order before it's shipped, Coffee of the Month Club is not so lenient. You get what you get, and if you don't like it, there doesn't seem to be much you can do. There is a "100% satisfaction guarantee”, but their wording about it makes it sound like it doesn't cover individual taste. You might like to know that there are no decaf options with this coffee club, and sometimes, one of the two coffees in your order will be flavored. That could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how much of a coffee purist you are.

$18.98 a bag

When you create your account or place your first order with the Coffee of the Month Club, you'll choose the length of your subscription, ranging from 2 to 12 months. Longer subscriptions offer slight savings. The cost starts at $37.95 (or $18.98 per bag) and goes up to $40.95 per month, depending on the subscription length, and shipping is free. You can set your delivery frequency to monthly, every other month, or every three months. Each delivery includes two 12-ounce bags of premium coffee. Lastly, you'll need to specify your coffee preference: ground or whole bean. We didn't see anywhere to indicate preference for light, medium, or dark roasts.

Not competitive

We find Coffee of the Month Club a bit outdated. While they've been around for 30 years, they don't quite keep pace with today's coffee subscriptions. You can't customize much, and the price isn't great either. There's nothing that really makes them stand out. Try one of our higher-rated coffee clubs for something more personalized.

Which Coffee Club is the Best?

For centuries, coffee has been more than just a vehicle for your caffeine fix - it's been a catalyst for connection, creativity, and culture around the world. From elegant cafes in Paris to quiet mountain villages in Colombia, this beloved beverage has brought people together and fueled countless conversations, ideas, and dreams.

But for many of us, our daily cup has become routine instead of a moment to savor. If you find yourself stuck in a coffee rut, reaching for the same familiar-but-”meh” blend day after day, it might be time to shake things up with a coffee club subscription. Coffee clubs are perfect for coffee drinkers who want to explore flavors (and freshness) beyond what's available at their local grocery store.

Coffee clubs are also great for busy professionals who don't have time to hunt down specialty beans or for those who simply want the convenience of having freshly roasted coffee delivered right to their doorstep. Coffee clubs take the guesswork out of choosing new coffees - you get to benefit from expert curators' knowledge about tasting notes and brewing tips for the perfect morning cup of joe.

Coffee clubs range from specialized to generic. Some take pride in sourcing single-origin beans from a particular country, like Costa Rica. Others act as a middle-man for US-based independent roasters, helping you discover a new business or award-winning coffee every month. However, some are a bit one-note and lacking in customization options or variety.

The frequency of deliveries can vary too. Some clubs ship weekly, so you'll never run out of fresh beans. Others operate on a monthly basis, which might be better if you don't go through coffee as quickly. You'll also find differences in customization options - some clubs let you choose every coffee you receive, while others surprise you with new selections based on your taste preferences. Most coffee clubs have a quiz to help you figure out what those preferences are.

When shopping for a coffee club online, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Variety. How many different coffees does the club offer? Look for a club with a large selection to keep things interesting. A good club should introduce you to new origins and roast levels regularly to prevent flavor fatigue.
  • Customization. Can you set the selections to align with your preferences? The best clubs allow you to specify things like roast level, whole bean or ground, and even flavor notes you enjoy. This makes it more likely that you'll love every coffee you receive.
  • Frequency and quantity. How often do they ship, and how much coffee do you get? Make sure the club's shipping schedule and amounts match your consumption habits. You don't want to end up with too much coffee going stale or to run out before your next shipment.
  • Educational content. Do they provide information about the coffee? Look for clubs that offer details about the coffee's origin, tasting notes, and brewing recommendations.
  • Price and value. How does the cost compare to buying coffee locally? While coffee clubs often charge a premium for their service, the selection and convenience should justify the price. Compare a few options to find the best value for your budget.
