Credit Assistance Network is one of the few credit repair providers that offers a pay-as-you-go pricing structure. You'll make an initial payment of $179 (or $279 for a couple), which gets you access to one -on-one consultations with a certified FICO professional, debt validation/goodwill letters to creditors, cease and desist letters to collection agencies, and unlimited disputes.
Pay as you go
From there, you'll be charged for every deletion CAN is able to achieve on your account - $50 for confirmed deletions per bureau, and $70 for deletions from public records. That could add up very quickly, if you have multiple issues on your credit history. You'll also be expected to provide your credit history to Credit Assistance Network, at your own cost; it's not included with their repair services.
Puzzling questions
Will you get effective credit repair services from Credit Assistance Network? Their reputation is puzzling. On the one hand, they've been in the industry for more than 10 years and have only positive reviews on the Better Business Bureau website - and yet, their rating with the BBB is only a mediocre "C+". We also felt misled by the CAN website, which said that their rating was a flawless "A+". Can you trust a company to repair your credit if, from the very start, they're not fully honest with their own reputation?
Out of date
Or, maybe this provider doesn't update their site very frequently: at the time of our review, their most recent blog post was nearly 5 years old. But, again, should you choose a credit repair company that doesn't stay current - with new regulations affecting consumers and their credit scores? Probably not.
In this provider's FAQ, it states, "We our experts." Typos, misinformation about a BBB rating, and expensive a la carte-type pricing are all reasons for Credit Assistance Network's low ranking among businesses offering credit repair services. You'll have a much smoother, effective experience elsewhere.
Most Americans know that a good credit score and credit history are important. That one number, your credit score, can determine your ability to get a loan for school or for a car, be approved as a tenant, or to qualify for a credit card.
Unfortunately, when your credit history is less than fantastic - because of making payments after the due date, having too many credit inquiries, or even having mistaken information associated with your identity - you'll have fewer options when you need to make a major purchase. You may even have to pay higher than average rates on your car insurance or your mortgage.
Using a reputable credit repair company puts you back in control of your financial reputation. These services work on your behalf to reduce or eliminate any negative factors in your credit history, working directly with collection agencies, creditors, and even with the three primary credit bureaus. With the help of a credit repair company, you can improve your score and even put a stop to negative information being reported on your accounts. Most services take several months before you see measurable results on your credit report, so adjust your expectations accordingly.
With so many services advertised in the media and online, how can you tell if a credit repair company is reputable and effective? As you compare the various providers, here are several criteria to keep in mind:
