The Credit Pros advertise themselves as "a financial technology firm dedicated to improving the lives of [their] clients". They do this through helping them remove inaccurate, unverified, and/or erroneous information from their credit history and by offering education to help prevent similar mistakes going forward.
Introductory action plan
If you'd like to get a feel for what to expect from The Credit Pros, you can get a free credit score and summary, along with an action plan, by entering your name, number, and email address. You'll then be contacted for your free initial consultation. We found some customers who described that experience as frustrating, with representatives who spoke too fast and didn't take the time to answer questions - but since it's free, there's no risk for you to give it a try for yourself.
Expensive services
Their services are definitely not free - and are actually some of the highest in the industry. Here's what you should expect, depending on which plan you choose:
1-on-1 consultations
All plans include 1-on-1 consultations with a certified FICO professional, unlimited disputes, letters to creditors, and pulling your credit report. You should expect it to take up to 60 days to receive your credit report - which also means that you may not see any changes to your credit history for the first two months that you're a client. Keep that in mind as you decide whether you want to be a per-month or pay-as-you-go customer
Good reputation
The Credit Pros have some indicators of a good reputation: an "A+" rating as an accredited business with the BBB, along with some positive customer comments. We also like that they offer a solid satisfaction/refund policy: you can cancel your service at any time, and you can get a full refund if they don't force the removal of any errors on your credit history within the first 90 days of your service.
Keeping current
The Credit Pros also have a very current website. Unlike some of our lower-ranked credit repair services, this provider keeps their blog updated with helpful information and articles, which means that they stay aware of current trends in consumer credit, changes to the law, and so forth.
Mixed customer reviews
On the other hand, we found that their client reviews were not all positive. You pay a lot for this service, so you expect to have measurable results and competent customer service, but many of the complaints we found said that the attention received after signing on the dotted line was very different from the sales pitch beforehand. Company reps seemed to respond almost exclusively to compliments online, but we didn't see the same attention given to address problems or complaints.
The Credit Pros are more trustworthy than some credit repair services that you may consider, but their high fees and mixed reviews may lead you to choose another provider.
Most Americans know that a good credit score and credit history are important. That one number, your credit score, can determine your ability to get a loan for school or for a car, be approved as a tenant, or to qualify for a credit card.
Unfortunately, when your credit history is less than fantastic - because of making payments after the due date, having too many credit inquiries, or even having mistaken information associated with your identity - you'll have fewer options when you need to make a major purchase. You may even have to pay higher than average rates on your car insurance or your mortgage.
Using a reputable credit repair company puts you back in control of your financial reputation. These services work on your behalf to reduce or eliminate any negative factors in your credit history, working directly with collection agencies, creditors, and even with the three primary credit bureaus. With the help of a credit repair company, you can improve your score and even put a stop to negative information being reported on your accounts. Most services take several months before you see measurable results on your credit report, so adjust your expectations accordingly.
With so many services advertised in the media and online, how can you tell if a credit repair company is reputable and effective? As you compare the various providers, here are several criteria to keep in mind:
