The Best Curtain Stores

Where is the Best Place to Buy Curtains?

The main reasons people purchase curtains are to block sunlight coming through their windows and to add a level of privacy to their home. However, curtains also transform a space by adding color, patterns, and elegance. Even people who have blinds over their windows often add curtains for design purposes. Needless to say, curtains are found in nearly every home.

Some curtains are sheer and add brightness and class to a room, while other curtains are meant to block light completely. If you have a baby nursery or want to keep the light out of your bedroom in the morning, blackout curtains are the best choice. It's a good idea to go room-to-room in your home and measure the length and width of your windows to make sure you have a solid list of the sizes you need. Some curtains are floor-length and others fit the exact size of a window. The fun of buying curtains is that you can make a big difference in a room and customize them to look however you want!

Top Consumer Reviews Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award Wayfair Review 5 Star Rating

Wayfair

5 Star Rating
  • 30-day refund policy
  • "A+" Better Business Bureau rating
  • Over 30,000 results for bedding
  • Free shipping on orders $35+
Top Consumer Reviews Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award

It's safe to say Wayfair carries almost everything you could think of besides food. In fact, it would be hard to come up with a product that Wayfair doesn't sell. They are known for their unbeatable selection, competitive pricing, and helpful customer reviews on all their products. They have over 30,000 results for bedding alone. Going through all these results could be overwhelming, but another thing Wayfair is great at is giving customers a smooth shopping experience with tools to narrow down results and sort by size, color, pattern, set/single, and material.

Unbeatable selection

Because Wayfair has so many curtain options to choose from, it's a great place for people with a wide range of tastes to shop. You can easily find floral curtains for a teen's bedroom or classy, modern blackout curtains for an adult's bedroom. They have more than enough options to brighten up the window space in your kitchen, living room, or even outdoor areas. It's safe to say that no other retailers can compete with the selection offered by Wayfair.

Find curtains within your budget

Since there is such a huge selection of curtains at Wayfair, it's hard to say how much you should expect to spend on window treatments. However, you can select the price range you want to stick to or view all the curtains ranked from the lowest to highest prices. You can find a set of two curtain panels for as little as $7.63 each. There are thousands of curtains priced under $150, so you're sure to find a style you like at a price you're comfortable with. On top of this, most listings have at least a few hundred or even thousands of reviews on curtains to give you an idea of the quality, shipping speed, and overall performance of the item you're interested in.

Best Curtain Stores

30-day returns

If you spend $35 or more, your order will ship for free from Wayfair. If you receive your curtains and aren't happy with the quality or appearance, you have 30 days to send them back for a full refund or store credit.

Improved ratings of the years

Over the last couple of years, the Better Business Bureau has continually bumped Wayfair's rating up. Now it's at a solid "A+" , which is a great sign. The company still has their fair share of negative customer reviews like most big retailers do, but they are primarily over issues dealing with banks or signing up for payment plans on furniture. Other complaints have to do with backordered items, trouble cancelling orders, and other things that don't have too much to do with the professionalism of Wayfair or quality of their products.

One-stop shop for curtains

When it comes to curtains, Wayfair blows their competitors out of the water with their hard-to-beat prices. There's a good chance you can use Wayfair as your one-stop shop for curtains and any other home decor needs without having to check multiple retailers. Beware that you might end up buying more than you came for once you see how many great products Wayfair has to offer! They've earned our highest rating for buying curtains online.

Half Price Drapes Review 4.5 Star Rating

Half Price Drapes

4.5 Star Rating
  • "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau
  • Free shipping on all orders
  • Over 900 curtain styles
  • Customizable orders

Half Price Drapes is a family-owned company dedicated to providing ready-made and custom window coverings across the country. They began in 2005 and are based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Half Price Drapes focuses on "luxury for less" by offering custom products that don't cost much more than some ready-made products.

Odd website organization

There are over 900 results for curtains at Half Price Drapes. You can narrow down your options by selecting the height, width, color, fabric, features, patterns, headers, and style you're interested in. We feel like their website is organized a little weird and finding all their curtains isn't as intuitive as it is on some other websites. You can shop by window shades, hardware and decor, new arrivals, and sales outlet as main categories on the website, but you'll need to go to a drop-down menu on the side to find other categories like patterned curtains, hotel blackout curtains, linen curtains, sheer curtains, and more. Product descriptions are extremely detailed and you can read customer reviews about each item.

Custom orders available

There are plenty of in-stock items to choose from, but if you have a window that's a unique length/width or you want a different lining with the curtain you're interested in, you can message Half Price Drapes to submit a custom order. Pricing for this will be dependent on the fabric and size of your drapes. If you want to see fabric swatches before committing to any of the curtains you see online, you can get up to 5 for free and then pay just $0.99 for any extras you want.

Shipping speeds vary by order type

Once you place a custom order, Half Price Drapes begins production. It usually takes 3-5 weeks to be completed, undergo a quality check, and get shipped to the customer. For items that are in-stock, they are usually shipped within 6 business days and arrive within 10-12 business days. You can always pay extra to expedite your shipping at checkout if you need your curtains faster than the standard speeds.

Best Curtain Stores

Half the price means half the curtains

With a name like Half Price Drapes, customers are going to expect great prices on their window coverings. All of the products show a big markdown from original retail prices and you can easily score some inexpensive, high-quality curtains. However, don't be deceived by low prices by forgetting that they sell individual panels, and you'll also have to purchase all the hardware to hang the drapes separately. Luckily you'll usually find a discount code to use at checkout that will provide additional savings on your order. Half Price Drapes offers free shipping on all orders regardless of how much a customer spends.

Return policy based on products purchased

Since Half Price Drapes offers custom products as well as ready-made ones, the return policy is a bit more complex. For any items received with a defect, Half Price Drapes will replace it at no cost if they're notified within 30 days of receipt. In-stock items can be returned for a full refund within 30 days from purchase. They must be in original condition and packaging or they are subject to a 15% restocking fee. Roman and cellular shades, along with any custom orders, can be returned for a 50% refund if they are sent back within 30 days of receipt. Customers are always responsible for return shipping.

Solid option

Half Price Drapes has an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau. They have hundreds of customer reviews from people who are thrilled with their purchases. This is definitely a reliable, professional place to buy affordable curtains. It's also a great option for people who need to customize their orders. You might not find as modern of prints at Half Price Drapes as you would other places, but for solid colors and a wide range of fabrics, this is a good option.

Etsy Review 4.5 Star Rating

Etsy

4.5 Star Rating
  • "A" Better Business Bureau rating
  • Shop to support small businesses
  • Over 176,000 options
  • Unique prints and sizes not found anywhere else
  • Lots of customizable options

If you want to find unique curtain designs for your home while supporting small businesses, Etsy is the place for you. They are an online marketplace with millions of artistic, often-handmade items for sale by independent creators. You might even be one of them! Etsy has revolutionized the retail world with their sleek platform, huge selection, and easy buying processes while giving customers the opportunity to support small businesses.

Vast selection

With over 176,000 curtain panels or accessories to choose from, Etsy has a selection that most other retailers can't compete with. You can narrow down your results by delivery times, price, color, style, shop location, item type (handmade or vintage), and more. Many items feature breathtaking pictures of the curtain fixtures in beautiful rooms. Not only can you find an amazing, unique selection of curtains on Etsy, but you'll get a lot of design ideas along the way as well. It's enjoyable to browse through the different curtain options found at Etsy and you'll likely find items you didn't even know you wanted!

Thorough product descriptions

The top hits for anything you search on Etsy are not only classy and unique, but usually ranked the highest by customers and Etsy themselves. Shopping from these sellers gives you a higher likelihood that you won't have issues with your order or shipping. When you click on a product, you'll see estimated delivery dates, shipping costs, a detailed description of the curtains, and the option to put in your customizations if the seller allows for it.

Best Curtain Stores

Each shop has their own policies

Since you're buying from independent business owners when you shop on Etsy, policies may differ depending on what product you're interested in. Always read the shop policies from the seller you buy from to learn how long you have to return or exchange an item. Most sellers don't allow returns or exchanges for customized items, so if you buy curtains at custom lengths or with custom prints, it might be the case that they are final sale.

Don't let negative feedback scare you away

If you read customer feedback about Etsy's platform as a whole, you might be surprised to find there are a lot of upset people. These are usually either from sellers who don't agree with all the regulations they abide by in order to do business with Etsy, or from customers who had issues with an order they placed and don't realize they should be dealing directly with the seller rather than Etsy. Overall, Etsy is a great place to shop if you buy from sellers that have lots of good reviews from customers on their shop and individual products. You can feel good about yourself knowing you're supporting small businesses and getting a product that you won't find anywhere else online.

Explore the beauty

Overall, Etsy is a fantastic place to shop for curtains since you'll find unique, beautiful, and trendy prints that no one else in your neighborhood will have. You are more likely to be able to request customizations and get curtain panels the exact lengths that you need. Since many items are handmade, sold by small businesses, and shipped all around the world, you might end up spending a bit more here than you would at another store. However, since you can sort curtains by price, you're sure to have options that will fit your budget. Buying curtains through Etsy will ensure you find something high quality and one-of-a-kind that will beautify your home. They've earned one of our highest ratings.

In short, whatever you fall in love with at Target, it can be in your hands in a matter of hours!

Best Curtain Stores

Affordable prices and thorough product descriptions

Like almost all other places that sell curtains, you buy them by the panel at Target. The most expensive panels are only $100 with the majority ranging from $25 - $50. Most of them come in multiple colors as well. One of the best parts of the product descriptions at Target is that customers can leave reviews for other buyers to let them know how the curtains looked in their space, if they're high quality, tips and tricks for hanging them, and more.

90-day return policy

Most new, unused items can be returned to Target within 90 days for a full refund. If you shop with Target's RedCard, you'll get an additional 30 days to return your items. The RedCard is Target's exclusive credit card with no annual fee that gives an instant 5% discount on almost all purchases and free shipping.

Highly recommend

Target has an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau. They're also a well-loved company by most people who have shopped either online or in their stores. Their selection of modern, chic curtains is just one example of the many appealing products they sell at affordable prices. We highly recommend shopping for curtains online through Target.

Overstock Review 4 Star Rating

Overstock

4 Star Rating
  • Free shipping on all purchases
  • "A+" Better Business Bureau rating
  • Over 7,000 curtain options
  • Competitive pricing

Overstock is a huge, tech-driven online retailer based out of the Salt Lake City, Utah area. They were founded in 1999 and their customer base has exploded since that time. They are well-known for their competitively low prices on all things furniture, decor, and home improvement. You can find unique rugs, jewelry, lighting fixtures, bedroom accessories, cookware sets, and more at Overstock.

Great selection, easy browsing

You'll find hundreds of options for any product you look for on Overstock, so it's no surprise that there are over 7,000 curtains to choose from. Their website makes it easy to narrow down results and find exactly what you're looking for. You can start by choosing your desired level of light filtration, then choose the colors you want to see along with the length, pattern, style, header type, material, and price. Overstock has categories for curtains under $25, under $50, under $75, and anything on clearance.

Reliable product reviews

Many of the curtains come in multiple lengths and colors. You can request free swatches to make sure the fabric is a perfect match for the window you're covering. In addition, customers can leave reviews on all the drapes and curtains along with pictures of them in their own home to give you added confidence about your purchase. Since Overstock is a popular site, it's not uncommon to be able to read through hundreds of reviews on any given item.

Best Curtain Stores

Budget friendly

The price of curtains at Overstock varies widely since the size, material, and pattern all play a big factor in cost. However, most curtain and drape options at Overstock are well under $150. You really can't find anything outrageously priced here, so it's a budget-friendly place to browse! At the time of this review, there was an extra 20% discount on all curtains and drapes. It's common to find big savings like this on Overstock, which is why so many people turn here.

30-day return policy

Overstock has a standard 30-day return policy for most items. If your purchase doesn't work out, simply log into your account and request a return shipping label (you'll be responsible for the shipping cost) and send your curtains back. They'll be inspected before a full refund is issued. Products must arrive at the Overstock facility within 45 days of the purchase date.

Not dissuaded by complaints

In addition to finding items at a great price through Overstock, everything ships for free. Overall, we are big fans of the company for their selection of curtains and other products. They have an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau. Unfortunately, some people have had a hard time working with their customer service. This doesn't worry us too much since this is a common complaint with huge companies like Overstock and isn't a problem for everyone. Hopefully you won't have a reason to need to deal with customer service and you'll have a smooth buying process if you buy curtains here. We recommend giving Overstock a try.

Amazon Review 4 Star Rating

Amazon

4 Star Rating
  • Over 10,000 curtain designs to choose from
  • Options for 1-2 day shipping
  • Thousands of customer reviews on individual products
  • 30-day refund policy

Amazon launched in 1995 and has quickly become the world's largest online retailer for practically everything. You want to buy a bike? Check Amazon. You want to buy a wedding ring? Check Amazon. How about rose-shaped ice cube trays? Clothing, movies, furniture, tools, games, electronics, you name it - Amazon sells it. They have their own line of products as well as hosting independent sellers and businesses.

Filter through over 10,000 results

Since there are over 10,000 results for curtains and drapes from Amazon, it's a good thing you can narrow down your options with their filtering features. Customers can sort products by the delivery date, average customer reviews, brands, price, light allowance, pattern, style, heading type, color, length, width, fabric, number of pieces, theme, packaging options, and more. If you have a specific style of curtains in mind, it will save you a lot of time on Amazon.

Decide on a budget

One reason Amazon is so popular is because it's hard for other businesses to compete with their prices. You'll almost consistently find products to be cheaper on Amazon than anywhere else on the internet. You can easily find long, thick, light-blocking curtains on Amazon for under $40. However, you could spend hundreds of dollars per window too. To stick within your budget, enter the price range amount you're willing to spend.

Opposite of small business

Not everyone is concerned about the size of the businesses they shop at, but for those who are, buying from Amazon is about as opposite as you can be from shopping locally or from small businesses. They generate an unfathomable amount of money from their sellers (around $125 billion every quarter), so it might be better to shop directly from curtain-makers and retailers that you find on Amazon's website, like you'll find in this review.

Best Curtain Stores

Fast shipping

In addition to nearly unbeatable prices, Amazon has speedy fast shipping. Amazon Prime members pay a monthly ($12.99) or yearly membership ($119) to qualify for 1 or 2-day shipping on most of their purchases. Even if you don't have Amazon Prime, you can still access all of Amazon's products and still have them shipped to your door in just a few days. It's easy to track your purchases and get reliable estimated delivery dates.

Curtains are not their main product

Although there is a huge selection of curtains at Amazon, this isn't their main product. It's just one of the millions of things they have on their platform. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if you have specific questions about fitting your curtains or want them custom-made, Amazon isn't going to be the best choice. However, if you buy from Amazon and aren't satisfied, you'll have 30 days to send them back for a refund.

Thousands of product reviews

Another signature feature of Amazon's platform is their reviews. You can find tens of thousands of reviews on many of the curtains and other products sold on Amazon. This gives you a good idea of what the quality is like, how the color looks, how easy they are to hang, and more. Once you've made a purchase from Amazon, you'll always receive a follow-up email a few days later asking you to review your items. This gives a much more reliable shopping experience to customers.

Most convenient option

Amazon has a "B+" rating from the Better Business Bureau and you can quickly find thousands of reports from dissatisfied customers. However, to be fair, a company as big as Amazon with over 197 million global customers each month is bound to have upset people who had issues dealing with sellers, missed return deadlines, received damaged items, misdeliveries, or any other issue that can occur through a company. Overall Amazon is a very reliable company, which is why they are as popular as they are. You'll find unbeatable prices here, fast shipping, fair return policies, and a huge selection, so it's hard not to want to shop here for all your curtains and accessories. This is definitely one of your easiest options for buying curtains.

Bed Bath & Beyond Review 3.5 Star Rating

Bed Bath & Beyond

  • Free shipping on orders of $39+
  • Over 2,740 curtain products
  • 90-day return policy

Founded in 1971, Bed Bath & Beyond is a popular retailer for all things home goods. Whether you're looking for bedding, storage solutions, luggage, furniture, or bath accessories, you'll find it there. They have over 1,500 brick-and-mortar stores in the US. Bed Bath & Beyond's sister brands include other well-known retailers like Buy Baby, Face Values, and Decorist.

Filter over 2,700 products

The top curtain categories at Bed Bath & Beyond are curtain panels, kitchen and bathroom curtains, valances and scarves, curtain rods, and blinds and shades. You can browse over 2,740 products by light filtration, color, length, or room. You can also read unfiltered reviews on all of the products to give you an idea of how they look in other people's houses and what the quality is like.

Score deals with Beyond+ membership

All products have two prices listed. One is for Beyond+ members and the other is for non-members. Becoming a member is actually a pretty good deal. For $29/year, you get 20% off all purchases, free shipping on all orders, and 50% off their interior design services. When you subscribe to Bed Bath & Beyond's email list, you'll receive a code for 20% off a single item.

Price-match guarantee

You won't break the bank to buy curtains at Bed Bath & Beyond. The most expensive window treatment you can buy is $340, but most other options fall under the $100 mark. Bed Bath & Beyond has a price-match policy that you can request either in-store or by phone up to 14 days after purchase. They match competitor's prices including those from major retailers as long as it is in-stock and identical to the product you want to buy. Clearance and close-out items do not qualify.

Best Curtain Stores

Convenient shipping options

You can get free shipping on all your orders if you're a Beyond+ member or if you spend over $39. Another option is to do in-store or curbside pickup if you live near one of the Bed Bath & Beyond locations. Pickups are usually ready in as little as one hour! Just select in-store pickup at checkout and follow the instructions from there. Last but not least, for $9.99 Bed Bath & Beyond does same-day delivery.

90-day return policy

You can either return your items in-store or online if you are wanting a refund from Bed Bath & Beyond. Their policy states that you have 90 days from your purchase date to either exchange or return your items for a full refund.

Good BBB rating, bad customer reviews

Although Bed Bath & Beyond is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB), they do have an "A+" rating. Unfortunately, of the 121 customer reviews on the Better Business Bureau, very few of them are positive. The same goes for thousands of reviews found other places online. People report receiving the wrong items, having their orders cancelled, difficulties with customer service, and more. Some issues are a result of experiences shopping in-store, but there are a good number of people who have had bad experiences online.

Don't rule them out

Since Bed Bath & Beyond is so popular and well-known, it's not surprising to find a lot of negative reviews about their services. It's also no secret that they've started to struggle over the years, having to close multiple locations and shake up their management. With this usually comes issues that trickle through all their sales processes. We wish they provided a better, more trustworthy experience for all their shoppers, but we still wouldn't rule them out completely. If you find curtains you love from Bed Bath & Beyond, it's probably still worth ordering them. We wouldn't give them one of our best ratings, but Bed Bath & Beyond is still a decent option for buying curtains.

Kohl's Review 3 Star Rating

Kohl's

3 Star Rating
  • "A-" rating from the Better Business Bureau
  • Over 1,900 curtains to choose from
  • 180-day return policy
  • Free shipping on orders $75+

Kohl's is based out of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin and operates 1,164 brick-and-mortar department stores throughout the US. As of 2013, they are the largest department store retail chain with stores in every state in the US except for Hawaii. Kohl's was started by Polish immigrant Maxwell Kohl, who first opened a corner grocery store in Wisconsin in 1927. Now Kohl's has grown to offer clothes, furniture, decor, jewelry, health products, activewear, accessories, and much, much more.

Decent enough selection

There are over 1,900 results for curtains on Kohl's website. This is not as much as you might find from competing retailers, but if they have what you want, it won't matter! You can sort their selection by length, top treatment, color, brand, room, and price. Some areas where they are lacking is if you need curtains that are 10, 20, or 22 inches in length, you'll only find one result for each. They have a decent selection of sheer, light filtering, room darkening, and blackout curtains. In addition, you can buy valances, blinds, and curtain rods and hardware from Kohl's as well.

Affordable curtains

If you text a code listed on Kohl's website, you'll get 15% off your next purchase in addition to receiving updates and special offers from the company. This is a nice bit of savings if you're looking at more expensive curtains. At the time of this review, most curtains from Kohl's were on sale, with the most expensive set being as much as $335, which still isn't a lot compared to what you might spend elsewhere. Overall Kohl's is a really affordable place to buy window treatments.

Save with Kohl's cash or card

Kohl's provides other ways for their customers to save money shopping at their store. Most of the time, purchases come with Kohl's cash that can be redeemed at a later, designated date. You can save whatever dollar amount is listed on your Kohl's cash when you buy another product. If you frequently shop at Kohl's, it might be worth your time to get a Kohl's card. This is a credit card that gives you big discounts when you use it to shop in-store or online. You'll save up to 30% on any given transaction and save 35% upon signing up!

Best Curtain Stores

Inexpensive shipping options

When shopping online at Kohl's you can choose to have your curtains delivered right to your doorstep, or you can select contactless drive-up from one of their many stores if you live nearby. If they have the item you want in-store, you can pick it up in as little as an hour for free. Spending over $75 online qualifies you for free shipping to your home.

Generous 180-day return policy

To help you make a good, informed purchase, Kohl's lets customers leave honest reviews on the items they buy. It's helpful to read through these on the curtains you're interested in to make sure people are happy with the quality and style of each product. However, if you do end up needing to return your curtains, Kohl's has a very generous return policy. You have 180 days from your purchase date to get a refund with or without your receipt.

Better options out there

Kohl's has an "A-" rating from the Better Business Bureau, which is pretty good for a company their size. However, they do have an alert for a lawsuit they were in regarding a data breach in 2020. Individual customer ratings don't fare very well with many people saying they've had issues with mixed up online orders, extra charges on online payments, and difficulties dealing with customer service. We are impressed with Kohl's generous return policy, prices, and easy delivery options, but their selection is less than many other curtain retailers, so they've earned an average rating from us.

Pottery Barn Review 3 Star Rating

Pottery Barn

3 Star Rating
  • "A+" Better Business Bureau rating
  • Periodic discount codes
  • 30-day return policy

Pottery Barn is one of many companies owned by Williams Sonoma. Some well-known sister brands include West Elm, PBTeen, Rejuvenation, Mark and Graham, and other branches of Pottery Barn. Both Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma have an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau. These stores supply a wide range of products under categories like bedding, rugs, lighting, windows, mirrors, office and storage, art, gifts, and more.

Smaller selection than competitors

The curtains at Pottery Barn give chic, airy, modern vibes. Most of the curtain options are neutral colors with minimal patterns, if any. There are about 200 different types of curtains to choose from. You can sort them by type (blackout, light filtering, or sheer), length, material, hanging type, hanging style, and color. Since you don't have tons of options to choose from, you could easily look through all of the options within a few minutes.

Known for being pricey

Most people would probably agree that the majority of products sold by Pottery Barn are overpriced. They've earned a reputation over the years for having stylish, high quality house decor and they've definitely adjusted their prices to fit that image. The curtains at Pottery Barn are sold as individual panels and the cheapest ones you can find are $33.99. The majority of window coverings are in the $100 - $250 range per panel which is quite a bit more expensive than you can find other places. Some of their curtain panels are priced as high as $2,220.

You'll usually pay for shipping

At the time of this review, Pottery Barn had a discount code listed on their website for free shipping if you spend over $99. Most of the time, delivery costs are determined based on how much you spend and it only gets more expensive with more products. For example, if you spend between $45 and $65, shipping is $11, if you spend between $65 and $90, shipping is $14, and so on.

Best Curtain Stores

30 days to return unwanted items

If you need to return your curtains to Pottery Barn after you've received them, you have 30 days to do so. You need to have the original receipt and request a return online in order to receive your UPS shipping label.

Unhappy customers

Unlike many other curtain retailers, Pottery Barn doesn't allow customers to leave reviews on products. When you're spending a lot of money, it helps to get feedback from others who have bought the same item, so it's disappointing that Pottery Barn doesn't offer that. Upon reading through customer reviews of Pottery Barn in general, it seems like many people are frustrated with their experience. Customer service can be very hard to deal with, shipping is extremely delayed, and some people say they never receive items they order and are stuck trying to get hundreds of dollars back. It seems like customer satisfaction has plummeted over the years and Pottery Barn has a lot of adjustments to make if they want to stay afloat.

Shop elsewhere

Since Pottery Barn has had issues with customer service and charges more than many other retailers for a smaller selection of curtains, there isn't a great reason to spend time shopping here. You're better off sticking with a higher-rated site that has more to offer for cheaper prices.

Pier 1 Review 2 Star Rating

Pier 1

2 Star Rating
  • Free shipping on orders $99+
  • Well-known partner brands
  • Over 50 years of retail experience

Pier 1 was established in 1962 and is a home decor website that sells outdoor furniture, candles, furniture, pillows, dining furniture, light fixtures, rugs, curtains, and everything in between. You may have driven past one of their 540 brick-and-mortar stores around the US. Their partner stores include Dress Barn, Steinmart, Linens "n Things, RadioShack, and other well-known brands.

Poor selection

We were immediately unimpressed with Pier 1 when we realized they only have 24 curtains listed on their website. Some of these are identical patterns in different sizes, meaning there are only a handful of choices here. The designs are nothing special. Some are solids, some are basic geometrical shapes, and all of them come in neutral colors. Some of them have three or four customer reviews and none of them are very impressive.

Financing plans available

On the bright side, of the few curtains available, none of them are expensive. Many of them are on sale and most of them are under $100. Since they are so affordable, you probably won't need to use Pier 1's financing plans, but they are available. If you spend $249 or more with the Synchrony HOME credit card, you can finance your purchase for 6, 12, or 18 months with no interest.

Store credit for returns

If you do choose to buy curtains from Pier 1 and are unhappy with how they look in-person, you will probably be equally disappointed by the return policy. If you send any items back to Pier 1, you are only eligible for store credit, minus return shipping charges.

Weak shipping perks

Pier 1 will give you $15 off your first order when you subscribe to their email list. In addition, you qualify for free shipping on all orders of $99 or more. Exceptions to this are furniture and rugs, which come with standard shipping charges regardless of how much you spend. Unfortunately, the more you spend, the more shipping costs.

Waste of time

The Better Business Bureau does not have a rating for Pier 1 Imports. However, if we go off of customer reviews alone, things do not look good for Pier 1. The majority of what we read was angry customers who weren't able to return merchandise, items arriving differently than pictured, and products damaged upon arrival - just to name a few. We are definitely leery of shopping online here, aside from the fact that their selection is dismal at best. Look elsewhere when shopping for curtains.

Whether you're putting up curtains for the first time in a new home or ready to switch the old for new, buying curtains online is the way to go. Shopping in-store provides a very limited selection of styles, lengths, and types of curtains. Browsing online will allow you to compare prices, read reviews about quality, choose from thousands of styles, and make sure you find the perfect fit for your window space. You'll easily find curtains you love to beautify your home and have them delivered to your doorstep in a matter of days.

When deciding where to purchase curtains for your home, here are a few important things to consider:

  • Cost. Compare the cost of the style and size of curtains you like with other retailers. If you're purchasing lots of curtains for different rooms, the price will quickly add up, so you'll want to find the best deals possible.
  • Selection. Find a retailer that sells hundreds of patterns and colors that fit your taste. This way you'll be happy at the end of your buying experience knowing that you chose your favorite design! It's also important that the seller has curtains in a range of sizes to make sure you get the right fit.
  • Return Policy. If your curtains show up a slightly different color than you imagined or don't block the sun like you'd hoped, you'll want to send them back for a refund or exchange. Check to see if the seller allows you to get all your money back if you're unsatisfied with your purchase.

Curtain Store FAQ

A curtain is a piece of cloth used to block or obscure light from windows. It is a movable screen that also helps maintain privacy in a home. Not only are curtains used to manage the amount of light and transparency in a home, but they are also used as a decorative accent.
Some people prefer the look of curtains over blinds because they add color and texture to a room. They have a fancier look than blinds do. In addition, curtains are easier to open and close than blinds and much easier to keep clean. However, it's not uncommon to see windows with both blinds and curtains.
Curtains can be made of a variety of materials. When buying curtains, the material you choose will be based on both look and the amount of light you want them to block. Most commonly, curtains are made of linen, cotton, wool, nylon, and polyester. They come in all colors and levels of thickness.
When buying curtains online, first consider what room you're using them in and how much light you need them to block. Maybe a living room just needs a thin enough curtain to dim the lights and frost the windows, while a baby's room needs thick curtains to block out light completely. Next, choose the color you want based on other furniture and decor in the room. You'll need to measure the height and width of your windows to ensure you get the right length and have plenty of coverage.
Compared to blinds, curtains are one of the most affordable options for window treatments. Synthetic fabrics like nylon and polyester are the least expensive type of curtain. The cost will also depend on how large your windows are and how long you need the curtains to be. You could easily find curtains at about $20 per panel for an average sized window.
In addition to buying curtains, you'll need a curtain rod to hang them on. This is a long metal or plastic rod that is secured above the window to hold up the curtains. They are usually extendable, so you can make them slightly shorter or longer if needed. The size you buy will be based on the length of your window. Other than a curtain rod, you'll need a measuring tape, level, and some screws to get your curtains hung.
You can usually always return your curtains within 30-60 days depending on the company's return policy. However, if your curtains are custom-sized to fit your windows, it's possible that they will come with a restocking fee. You may not be able to get a full refund for your curtains, so make sure you measure right and are confident in your color choice!
When you order your curtains online, they'll come with instructions on how to wash them. It will depend on the material they are made of. Luckily, curtains are usually away from high-traffic areas, so they are more likely to get dusty than dirty. You could shake them out or spot wash them if necessary, but curtains are fairly low-maintenance.
