Kohl's is based out of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin and operates 1,164 brick-and-mortar department stores throughout the US. As of 2013, they are the largest department store retail chain with stores in every state in the US except for Hawaii. Kohl's was started by Polish immigrant Maxwell Kohl, who first opened a corner grocery store in Wisconsin in 1927. Now Kohl's has grown to offer clothes, furniture, decor, jewelry, health products, activewear, accessories, and much, much more.
Decent enough selection
There are over 1,900 results for curtains on Kohl's website. This is not as much as you might find from competing retailers, but if they have what you want, it won't matter! You can sort their selection by length, top treatment, color, brand, room, and price. Some areas where they are lacking is if you need curtains that are 10, 20, or 22 inches in length, you'll only find one result for each. They have a decent selection of sheer, light filtering, room darkening, and blackout curtains. In addition, you can buy valances, blinds, and curtain rods and hardware from Kohl's as well.
Affordable curtains
If you text a code listed on Kohl's website, you'll get 15% off your next purchase in addition to receiving updates and special offers from the company. This is a nice bit of savings if you're looking at more expensive curtains. At the time of this review, most curtains from Kohl's were on sale, with the most expensive set being as much as $335, which still isn't a lot compared to what you might spend elsewhere. Overall Kohl's is a really affordable place to buy window treatments.
Save with Kohl's cash or card
Kohl's provides other ways for their customers to save money shopping at their store. Most of the time, purchases come with Kohl's cash that can be redeemed at a later, designated date. You can save whatever dollar amount is listed on your Kohl's cash when you buy another product. If you frequently shop at Kohl's, it might be worth your time to get a Kohl's card. This is a credit card that gives you big discounts when you use it to shop in-store or online. You'll save up to 30% on any given transaction and save 35% upon signing up!
Inexpensive shipping options
When shopping online at Kohl's you can choose to have your curtains delivered right to your doorstep, or you can select contactless drive-up from one of their many stores if you live nearby. If they have the item you want in-store, you can pick it up in as little as an hour for free. Spending over $75 online qualifies you for free shipping to your home.
Generous 180-day return policy
To help you make a good, informed purchase, Kohl's lets customers leave honest reviews on the items they buy. It's helpful to read through these on the curtains you're interested in to make sure people are happy with the quality and style of each product. However, if you do end up needing to return your curtains, Kohl's has a very generous return policy. You have 180 days from your purchase date to get a refund with or without your receipt.
Better options out there
Kohl's has an "A-" rating from the Better Business Bureau, which is pretty good for a company their size. However, they do have an alert for a lawsuit they were in regarding a data breach in 2020. Individual customer ratings don't fare very well with many people saying they've had issues with mixed up online orders, extra charges on online payments, and difficulties dealing with customer service. We are impressed with Kohl's generous return policy, prices, and easy delivery options, but their selection is less than many other curtain retailers, so they've earned an average rating from us.
The main reasons people purchase curtains are to block sunlight coming through their windows and to add a level of privacy to their home. However, curtains also transform a space by adding color, patterns, and elegance. Even people who have blinds over their windows often add curtains for design purposes. Needless to say, curtains are found in nearly every home.
Some curtains are sheer and add brightness and class to a room, while other curtains are meant to block light completely. If you have a baby nursery or want to keep the light out of your bedroom in the morning, blackout curtains are the best choice. It's a good idea to go room-to-room in your home and measure the length and width of your windows to make sure you have a solid list of the sizes you need. Some curtains are floor-length and others fit the exact size of a window. The fun of buying curtains is that you can make a big difference in a room and customize them to look however you want!
Whether you're putting up curtains for the first time in a new home or ready to switch the old for new, buying curtains online is the way to go. Shopping in-store provides a very limited selection of styles, lengths, and types of curtains. Browsing online will allow you to compare prices, read reviews about quality, choose from thousands of styles, and make sure you find the perfect fit for your window space. You'll easily find curtains you love to beautify your home and have them delivered to your doorstep in a matter of days.
