Where can you get the best custom T-shirts?  Shopping for custom T-shirts has come a long way from what it used to be. Not that long ago, if you wanted to get shirts made for a family reunion, a sports team, or even just for fun, you'd have to find a local print shop, bring in your design on a disk or a piece of paper, and then wait days (sometimes weeks) while they set up the equipment. It was often expensive, the minimum order was high, and if you only needed a few shirts you were usually out of luck. For many people, the whole process just wasn't worth the hassle.

Spreadshirt has made a big comeback. With thousands of 5-star reviews, an "A+" BBB rating, and plenty of style options, this platform is now a reliable choice for custom T-shirts. The design process is easy, shipping is reasonable, and the 90-day return policy is generous. Just keep an eye on your total if you add lots of design elements, since the price can jump quickly. Otherwise, Spreadshirt is 100% an option to consider.

Underground Printing has grown from a college garage project into one of the biggest names in custom apparel. Zazzle has improved a lot since our last review. You'll find tons of designs from independent creators, plus easy-to-use tools for making your own custom shirt (and accessories too). On the downside, pricing transparency is lacking, and customer service isn't as helpful as with some rivals. If you're after variety and creativity in your custom T-shirts, Zazzle is worth a look - just go in with realistic expectations.

Canva is an excellent platform for digital design, offering an intuitive editor, drag-and-drop tools, and collaborative features. T-shirt printing is straightforward, eco-friendly, and uses high-quality DTG printing with safe inks, but options are very limited - only one basic shirt style per age/gender group, with no sleeve printing or fabric choices beyond basic cotton. Many top templates require a Pro subscription, and shirt-specific customer feedback is sparse. Free shipping and bulk discounts help, but if your main goal is custom T-shirts, Canva doesn't compete with specialty printers.

4imprint is a long-established name in custom T-shirts and promotional products, with a massive catalog that goes far beyond apparel. You'll find free samples, complimentary design help, and strong guarantees that promise timely delivery, best-value pricing, and satisfaction with every order. Minimums have dropped slightly, now starting at 12 on some shirts, and shipping is always free. But customer experiences are split - some rave about flawless service while others report lost orders and poor support. With that kind of love-it-or-hate-it reputation in mind, 4imprint earns a middle-of-the-road rating from us: a decent choice for big, bulk orders, but not an option for one-offs or small runs.

CafePress was once a pioneer in custom T-shirts and quirky gifts, but it has fallen far behind today's competitors. While the catalog is still large and prices are mid-range, the design tools are outdated, customer service is unreliable, and data breaches have damaged trust. Shipping is just average, bulk discounts are minimal, and customer complaints about delays and sizing issues are widespread. In short, CafePress is now one of the riskiest places to order custom T-shirts, and you're better off choosing a more dependable service.
Continued from above...
Fast forward to today, and everything has changed. The rise of online retailers has made custom T-shirt ordering accessible to just about anyone. You can create your design right on the company's website, upload your own graphics, add text, and preview the finished product instantly. Instead of needing to buy dozens of shirts to make it worthwhile, most online stores now let you order as few as one or two, often at surprisingly reasonable prices. And thanks to advances in printing technology - like direct-to-garment printing and heat transfers - the finished shirts look professional, feel comfortable, and last through wash after wash.
Another major change is the sheer variety you'll find online. In the past, you might only be able to choose a basic cotton T-shirt in a few colors and sizes. Now you'll find retailers offering hundreds of styles, from slim-fit tees and long-sleeved shirts to performance fabrics, organic cotton, and even specialty apparel like hoodies, hats, or headbands. Whether you're looking to design something for a corporate event, a fundraiser, or just for yourself, you can usually find the exact type of garment you want, in the size and shade you're picturing.
Trends in custom T-shirt shopping also reflect how much people like to express themselves and connect with others. Personalized apparel has become a staple for small businesses promoting their brand, influencers building their merch lines, and even individuals creating one-off designs to celebrate life events (girls' cruise, anyone?). The ease of ordering online has fueled this growth, since you don't need to invest in a large inventory or deal with the risk of leftover stock - you can just order what you need, when you need it. Some retailers even integrate with e-commerce platforms, making it possible for you to design a shirt and start selling it online almost instantly.
Of course, with so many options, it can be tough to figure out which custom T-shirt retailer is the best fit (pun intended) for you. Some companies specialize in bulk orders, while others focus on single-piece customization. Pricing can vary widely, as can turnaround times. And while many online shops promise high-quality printing, not all of them deliver. That's why it helps to have a clear way to compare your options before you commit. So, keep these factors in mind:
Ordering custom T-shirts has never been easier, and there's no shortage of online stores ready to help you bring your ideas to life. To save you the time and trouble of trying them all yourself, Top Consumer Reviews has done the research: we've ranked today's most popular custom T-shirt retailers, highlighting which ones deliver the best quality, the fastest turnaround, and the greatest value - and which ones might not be worth your money. Whether you're ordering one shirt or a hundred, have fun bringing your ideas to life!
