Do you tap, tango, or tour jete? Whether you or your child's preferred form of expression is more traditional, like ballet or jazz, or tends to be more exotic like Bollywood or belly dance, having the right Dancewear is important.
Most Dancewear falls into two categories: everyday training and performance. Naturally, what dancers wear to the studio for practice and training - basic leotards and tights, plain shoes, and so forth - is quite different from what they use when they are performing in a show or competition.

For decades, Discount Dance Supply - also known as DDS - has been outfitting dancers in the US and abroad in virtually every dance form: jazz, hip hop, ballet, lyrical tap, liturgical, ballroom and more. No matter what your Dancewear need, you'll probably find it at DDS, and at prices that lower than most other retailers'.
DDS also offers a complimentary rewards program. You do have to register by entering your email address; it won't happen automatically just by placing an order. You'll earn double rewards points on all shoe purchases, and every product listing shows you how many "Dance Dollars" you'll earn with your purchase. You'll also get a surprise reward on your birthday.
Teachers also have access to special features by registering with DDS. They can sell dancewear at their studio and/or share an online code with their students, which allows them to get referral rewards on every purchase. Teachers get additional discounts, VIP customer service, and costumes exclusively sold to DDS registered instructors.
The Discount Dance Supply website is attractive and easy to use. Spend a few minutes just browsing the main page and you'll find the hottest trends and seasonal features, new collections, limited-time discounts, and featured brands. You can always enter what you're looking for in the search box; otherwise, choose from the many options at the top of the site to narrow down what you need. DDS' inventory covers it all, from shoes and tights to costumes, leotards, and accessories. Once you've selected the Dancewear you like, you'll be able to easily see if the desired color and size are in stock by clicking on the "Check Inventory" button. Most of the items we selected were in stock, and those that weren't had estimated shipping times of 2-4 weeks.
DDS' shipping and return policies are comparable to most of the retailers in our review: free shipping on orders of at least $65 and returns accepted within 30 days of delivery if they are in unused, unworn condition with original packaging.
It's obvious that Discount Dance Supply keeps its finger on the pulse of the dance world: check out their Dance Life blog, with tons of helpful articles for dancers, teachers, and studio owners to see for yourself. You'll find the link tucked away at the top of the main DDS page, right next to their phone number. Also, if you have any aspirations of being a model for DDS, or if you'd like to score some free Dancewear by being a brand ambassador on your college campus, be sure to click on the Modeling and Ambassador Application links at the bottom of the page. And, although they don't brag about it, DDS gives back to the dance community; their contributions and donations support a variety of organizations, and they've been known to offer scholarships to aspiring dancers.
For all of these reasons, Discount Dance Supply takes first place among retailers of Dancewear. We're confident that you'll find what you need at the right price.
For more than 20 years, All About Dance has been supplying dancers with tutus, performance costumes, and much more. Their inventory carries an impressive selection of Dancewear from all of the top brands, such as Bloch, Capezio, and So Danca.
The All About Dance website is easy to navigate and visually appealing: see at a glance what the current trends are, what's on sale, and maybe get some ideas for what you or your dancer need for an upcoming performance. Make sure to look at the top of the page for any promotional offers that might be in place; at the time of our review, there was a three-day sale on tutus with a 15% discount.
When we compared "apples to apples" - Bloch tap shoes, for example - across several of the retailers in our review, All About Dance nearly always came in with the lowest prices. And, on their very active social media channels, AAD frequently posts coupons to save you even more money on your Dancewear orders. For larger purchases, All About Dance offers "everyday discounts" - no coupon code needed:
Plus, All About Dance offers gift cards, making it easy to give a Dancewear gift to your favorite dancer. You'll find that link at the bottom of the site or under the Gifts heading at the top of the page.
The shipping and return policies at All About Dance are fairly standard: free ground shipping on orders of at least $65, and a 30-day return policy on all unused, unworn items in their original packaging.
Our only reason for not giving All About Dance a full five-star rating is because a number of customers have reported issues with order fulfillment and delivery. While most of AAD's customers are pleased with what they receive and have no issues with getting their order on time, we found several who were told that their Dancewear was out of stock or that had it delivered much later than originally promised. In a time-sensitive industry like dance, where getting the right shoes, leotards, or costumes before a performance is extremely important, it's easy to see how that would cause a problem.
On the whole, however, the majority of All About Dance's past customers are happy with their shopping experience, the quality of the Dancewear they purchased, and the customer service received.
Danzia began in California in 2011 and has grown to include more than 100 brands, serving over 20,000 dance/cheer/fitness groups in 50+ countries.
Their site makes it very easy to find what you need: check out the categories across the top of the page, which include Dance, Cheer, Activewear, Gymnastics, Shoes, Costumes, Brands, and Clearance. From there, you'll see dropdown boxes for everything included in those categories. Of course, like most sites, you can also enter what you're looking for directly in the search box at the top right corner of the page.
Danzia's prices for Dancewear are middle-of-the-pack: more expensive than some, less expensive than others when comparing the same item across multiple retailers. We did see a discount code at the top of the page when we visited, including 5% off orders of $75+ and 10% off orders of $200 or more. Danzia is also very active on social media and coupon codes are posted regularly. Shipping is free on all orders of at least $25.
Danzia also has two rewards programs that can help make buying Dancewear more affordable:
Danzia also offers group discounts ranging from 5-10%, and teacher discounts that can be applied both to instructors and their students. You can find links to all of these rewards programs and discounts at the bottom of the site.
Unlike some of the Dancewear retailers we considered, Danzia doesn't charge a restocking fee on returns. You can return unworn items in their original packaging within 30 days of your purchase.
We weren't able to find a BBB listing for Danzia, so we considered customer reviews from across the web. We did see multiple complaints about items not being in stock, or that were originally marked as in-stock but then were mysteriously not once the customer went to order. There were also complaints about shipping being delayed multiple times even after placing an order for in-stock Dancewear. This could be problematic if you're ordering costumes for an upcoming performance. Also, there was no indication of how delays in shipping affect Danzia's 30-day return policy.
On the whole, Danzia offers a fantastic selection of Dancewear at competitive prices, and their rewards programs can make it even more affordable for repeat customers to shop there. However, we do strongly recommend you keep an eye on your order, given the number of shoppers who have had challenges with purchasing Dancewear that gets delayed or marked as out-of-stock.
Natural Spin is based in Canada and is well-recognized as one of the world's best sources of Dancewear, especially with respect to shoes. Their selection is vast, with more than 4,000 options just in women's shoes alone. And, by looking at the number of professional and amateur ballroom dancers sponsored by Natural Spin, it's easy to see their commitment to the sport of dance.
The site itself leaves room for improvement. For example, their About Us page was outdated by about three years when we visited, and the style of the website definitely doesn't scream "leading edge". However, particularly for those who need shoes, this retailer is worth considering.
There are two main ways to shop the Natural Spin site: using the search box at the top right corner of the page or clicking on the Categories on the left-hand side. Some of those categories include the following:
Prices at Natural Spin tend to be on the higher side. For instance, in the Ladies Dancewear category, the lowest-priced items (dance shorts and basic tank-style tops) started at $30-40, and the highest price tags were $810-$3,000 for ballroom costumes.
Because of the custom-made nature of the majority of Natural Spin's Dancewear, you should expect your order to take approximately 5-6 weeks to be delivered. However, if you need your order sooner, you may be able to pay an expedited delivery fee of $56 and get it in 15 days or less. Natural Spin will notify you if they are unable to meet that deadline.
Should you need to return an item, expect to pay a 20% restocking fee. Items must be unworn and unused to qualify.
Although the Natural Spin website is less than elegant, their costumes and shoes are very much so. Their reputation within the dance world, particularly in Canada, is stellar, and at the time of our review they carried an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
We recommend this retailer for those who need specialty shoes and/or dance costumes, particularly for ballroom dance.
BDancewear founder Cyndi Marziani got tired of looking for well-made dancewear in colors other than nude or black. So, she created her own company that specializes in handmade leotards, briefs, skirts and more. BDancewear's apparel is all manufactured in the USA - often by hand! - and are designed to look great on stage or in the studio for a long time.
One advantage to working with a Dancewear company that makes all of their apparel in-house is the ability to get free color swatches. If you click on the "Fabric" heading, you can order up to 10 free swatches to help you match the color you need. Given that BDancewear has more than 200 color options, you may want to see for yourself if you want guava, fuchsia, or dark magenta.
Use the categories at the top of the page to find what you need:
You'll find that their pricing is very competitive, especially if you consider the quality of the Dancewear; there's nothing mass-produced overseas. Your order will ship for just $2.95 if it's under $50, and for free on any order of $50 or more. Orders do take 1-3 weeks to produce and ship, so it's a good idea to plan in advance if possible.
Want to see BDancewear's gear in action? Take a look at the Testimonials page. We enjoyed seeing the variety of ways their dance separates have been used to create unique looks for various performers around the nation - even the Jacksonville Jewels dance team!
The only reason BDancewear didn't receive a higher ranking is because of the extremely limited spectrum of products that they offer. For dancers looking for shoes, a particular brand of leotard, or sequined dance costumes, they simply won't find it here. On the other hand, we strongly recommend this retailer for people shopping for well-made dance apparel in the industry's widest range of colors.
Danskin has been part of the dance world for over a century. Originally catering to dancers in NYC, the brand evolved to include yoga, aerobics, and general fitness clothing, particularly for women and girls.
Unsurprisingly, the only brand you'll find on this site is - you guessed it - Danskin. This means that their inventory for Dancewear is limited to tights, leotards, tops, bottoms, and accessories like bags.
We weren't overly impressed with their product range or availability. Given how dominant the Danskin name is within the dance world, we expected to find every imaginable size, color, and style made by the brand. Instead, we found many items were out of stock as we sorted through the available options with respect to colors and sizes.
On the other hand, prices on the Danskin website are comparable to what you might find when buying at a local store. Keep an eye out for extra discounts: at the time we visited the Danskin website, they were offering a coupon to save 15% if we signed up for their email newsletter. We also spotted a 20% discount code on all New Arrivals products on a banner at the top of the page.
You'll need as many discounts as you can get, because shipping costs are expensive: even on a $16 pair of shorts, we had to pay $7.95 for delivery. With such a big-name retailer, we would have expected them to be much more competitive in their shipping fees.
On the other hand, Danskin's return policy is more generous than some, allowing for 30 days from delivery to request a return. As with most Dancewear retailers, they do require that items be unworn and unused to be eligible for a refund.
On the whole, we were less-than-amazed by what Danskin's online store has to offer in terms of Dancewear. You're probably going to find a wider selection of items and lower shipping costs with a higher ranked retailer in our review.
Based in Hong Kong, YesStyle aims to distribute Asian fashion, beauty, and lifestyle products to customers throughout the world.
Their Dancewear selection has just under 70 options to choose from, including Belly Dance sets, Latin Dance sets, and more traditional top/pants/skirt sets. There were no shoes, children's clothing, or other dance accessories available.
Prices at YesStyle are very affordable, with very few items selling for more than $50. At the time of our review, there was also a banner at the top of the page advertising a 10% discount on all orders.
Can you return items to YesStyle? That depends. According to their return policy, "fashion products" for women, men, and kids can be exchanged if defective, exchanged for a new size, or returned in unused, unopened condition within 14 days of purchase. However, innerwear, swimwear, shapewear, accessories and costumes are not able to be exchanged for size or as unwanted items. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to tell by looking at a product's listing if it's one of the returnable categories.
We did find a surprising number of positive customer reviews for YesStyle. However, these mostly referred to purchases of Asian skincare products, not Dancewear. When we looked specifically for people who had bought any type of clothing from the retailer, we found many unhappy customers: items were cheaply made, didn't match the description, and so on. Also, YesStyle is not accredited or rated by the Better Business Bureau, despite being in business in the US for more than nine years.
In the end, YesStyle has low prices - but you're probably going to get low-quality Dancewear to match. Their selection is extremely limited; you won't find any reputable dance brands like Capezio or Bloch, and unless you're into belly dancing or Latin dance, you won't find much that fits your needs. And, with a questionable return policy, chances are high that you'll be stuck with what you order, even if you don't like it or it doesn't fit. For most dancers, shopping at YesStyle is likely to be a disappointing experience.
Finding exactly what you're looking for can be a challenge when shopping locally. Most big-box retailers carry an extremely limited selection of brands and sizes, typically only basic leotards and tights for children and even then, on the smaller end of the size range. Specialty Dancewear stores usually have a better selection of both training and performance apparel and shoes, but outside of major metropolitan areas there may not be a retailer nearby.
For this reason, many dancers and their parents shop online for Dancewear. With just a few clicks of the mouse, you can easily find the brands, sizes, styles and colors you're looking for, without the hassle of driving all over town hoping that stores will have it in stock. And, as an added benefit, the prices are often lower than what you'll see at a brick-and-mortar retailer, because the business doesn't have the added expense of maintaining a physical storefront.
As you consider the different online stores that offer Dancewear, here are a few ways to evaluate each retailer:
