Dance is such a beautiful art form, and the intense sport-level workout comes with a lot of different types of clothing that are specific to each kind of dance. Finding the right styles and support for your body type can be a game-changer. Whether you're a seasoned ballet dancer or just starting your first jazz class, the right dancewear can help you move easily and confidently.
Every style of dance has its own unique requirements when it comes to apparel, especially shoes. For instance, ballet dancers need specialized pointe shoes that provide support for dancing on their toes safely. Dancers working in commercial theater need supportive "character” heels. Hip-hop dancers require loose clothing for freedom of movement, while contemporary dancers often perform in socks.

DanceWear Corner, a family-owned and operated business, has been around since 1996. With a massive 6,000-square-foot showroom in the heart of Orlando, Florida, it's no wonder they've expanded into one of the largest online dancewear stores worldwide. But what sets them apart is their extensive inventory that goes beyond just dancewear. You'll find praisewear, original clothing designs, lounge accessories, and more, for men, women, and kids. Plus, as a central spot to find all of your favorite brands, you'll be able to get all the essentials at this one-stop shop.
Impressive UI with helpful listings
Shopping at DanceWear Corner is a breeze. The site is modern and makes it simple to find the best and newest dancewear on the market. You'll see major brands like Yumiko and Dance De Paris right on the front page. You can browse by category, gender, or function. The product pictures are crystal clear, showcasing the dancewear from multiple angles to give customers a precise understanding of fit and style. You can see samples of the colors if multiple ones are available, and each listing has reviews from customers. The only thing we want to see more of is size guides for each brand.
550 leotards in stock
When it comes to dancewear, DanceWear Corner offers an astonishing variety of leotards, tops, bottoms, undergarments, dance styles, and menswear. While many items come in classic black and white, they also offer vibrant color options for kids and adults who want to branch out from the class dress code. You'll find essential brands like Nikolay and Capezio, as well as more unique brands like Lulli, Ballet Rosa, Yumiko, and Bullet Pointe. There are 550 different items on DanceWear Corner's site under leotards and 165 different styles for men. You can also find shoes of all types. Pointe shoes, flat shoes, tap shoes, jazz shoes: you name it, DanceWear Corner has it.
Ready to wear inventory
Unlike some retailers that sell make-to-order dancewear, DanceWear Corner typically has most items in stock. Some more unusual items are considered "to order," which means they can be ordered directly from the manufacturer and shipped to you within 1-2 weeks. Often pointe shoes are purchased this way as DanceWear Corner only has a limited number of each shoe type in stock at any given time.
Prices for leotards from $15 to $113
We found DanceWear Corner's prices to be quite reasonable for high-quality dancewear. The entire stock of women's leotards ranges from $15 to $113. This offers a variety of options for affordable leos as well as more high-end fashionable choices for professionals. To compare prices at DanceWear Corner with other companies in our review, we looked at the same four items at each retailer. Here's what we found:
30-day return policy
If you sign up for DanceWear Corner's email list, you'll qualify for free shipping on your order. Otherwise, they offer free shipping on orders over $75. If you need to return or exchange an item from DanceWear Corner, you have a generous 30-day window to do so. Most items are subject to a return shipping fee of $8.95 (except for exchanges), but exchanges are completely free. Simply contact the company, provide the reason for the return or exchange, select your new item if applicable, and ship your order back within 15 days. They are also generous with problems like returning pointe shoes. Our reviewers had an experience where a pair of sewn pointe shoes needed to be returned, and DanceWear Corner accepted the return despite the policy stating only unsewn pointe shoes were accepted.
Impressive reputation for customer service
One of our favorite features is DanceWear Corner's honest customer reviews. With over 4,000 reviews, they have an impressive average rating of nearly 5 out of 5 stars. Customers rave about the comfort, quality, and fit of different items purchased from DanceWear Corner. While things like size are related to the dancewear manufacturer, the inclusion of reviews on the site makes it easy to see how dancers with similar measurements to you feel about DanceWear Corner's inventory. Further, DanceWear Corner also shows a 4.5-star average on Google Reviews, with high praise for the company's customer service and friendliness.
#1 one-stop-shop
This retailer is a great go-to place for dancers of all ages to find everything from classroom essentials to fashionable fun extras for their professional careers. From shoes to tutus, to the top leotard brands in the industry, DanceWear Corner's inventory is unmatched. For this reason, it earns the top spot in our review. With competitive pricing and a reasonable return policy, you can't go wrong buying dancewear from DanceWear Corner.
If you've danced at all, you've definitely heard or read the name Capezio before. Considered the gold standard for many dancers, most ballet dancers have worn Capezio canvas shoes at least once in their careers. When you look at the history of Capezio, it all started with Salvatore Capezio, who was born in Italy in 1871. After training as a cobbler, he immigrated to the United States and at just 17 years old, opened a small shoe repair shop. The shop became a hub for dancers to discuss their shoe needs, and the company was eventually appointed as the official shoemaker for the Metropolitan Opera House. After Salvatore's passing in 1940, Ben Sommers took over as president of Capezio and he and his wife expanded the business to include clothing as well as shoes. Today, the company continues to make a name for itself with over 130 years of quality craftsmanship.
Impressive site with intuitive navigation
For one of the oldest brands in our review, Capezio also has one of the most modern websites. The navigation is simple and intuitive, offering easy access to women's, men's, and children's dancewear at a glance. The drop-down menus make it simple to find your style of dance, your dancewear type, or particular categories like "studio collection” or "team basics”. No matter what you're looking for, Capezio has options for you. Once you select what you want to shop for, you'll find a range of helpful filters to narrow down the dancewear further. You'll find filters for type, color, size, and style in each category. There is also a size guide on each listing that follows the exact measurements for all Capezio dancewear.
147 dancewear items for women
Since Capezio only sells its own brand, you may find the inventory a little smaller than retailers who offer a range of brands in one place. However, Capezio's inventory is still highly competitive. You can find dancewear for ballet, tap, pointe, jazz, character, ballroom, and lyrical. You'll see tights, leotards, underwear, warm-ups, and more for both men and women at Capezio. There are currently 147 dancewear items for women on Capezio (not including shoes). For men, there are only 25 items total, but they do include unitards and necessary base layers.
Prices from $14.59 to $100+
The prices at Capezio are highly competitive. There are some highly affordable basics like a $24 leotard as well as some more expensive items like practice tutus for $68. Depending on what you need (like pointe shoes), the cost can be over $100 for one item. To compare Capezio's prices with other companies in our review, we looked at the same four items at each retailer:
30-day returns and free shipping on $75+
When you shop at Capezio, you'll enjoy competitive shipping options. Orders of $75 or more qualify for free standard shipping, while orders under $75 have a flat rate of $6.95. The company also offers a straightforward returns policy, allowing you to return products purchased directly from the website within 30 days of receiving your order. If you're not satisfied with your purchase or if it has a defect in craftsmanship or material, you can return it for a full merchandise refund issued to your original form of payment.
Impressive reputation across the board
Capezio currently holds an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau, and the average rating for Capezio products on their on-site reviews is an impressive 4.5 stars out of 5. In general, customers who left reviews at Capezio noted that the service was high quality and they felt supported by the company when they needed to make exchanges or return a product. For a company with such a long history, it's impressive that it's still doing so well.
Top single brand offering a dance one-stop-shop
Capezio is a renowned brand in the dance industry, and its reputation for producing high-quality dancewear is still going strong. With a wide range of dancewear options for both men and women, Capezio is competitive with the top companies in our review. With an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau and a high rating from customers, Capezio is a reliable choice for dancers of all levels. Given that you can buy everything here that you need to get started with most styles of dance, Capezio comes in as one of our highest choices when it comes to dancewear.
Eleve Dancewear is a company that creates custom dancewear that reflects an individual's unique personality. Founder Lisa Choules, a former professional dancer, started her career at Ballet West in Utah before moving to Kansas City Ballet, where she designed costumes for various directors. After retiring from dancing in 2009, Choules founded Eleve Dancewear, which specializes in creating one-of-a-kind dancewear focused primarily on ballet styles, but with options for other styles of dance too. The most important thing is that Eleve makes all of its own dancewear. You won't find other brands listed on Eleve, so everything has one unified style and vibe.
Easy-to-use and detailed listing pages
Eleve has an impressive website that's easy to browse. You can look through the site's entire inventory or jump right to a section you want to purchase. Our favorite part? Eleve's product descriptions are some of the best we've seen. Each product features real-life images taken from different angles, along with a helpful size chart for a perfect fit. While the site does tell us what size the model is wearing in the photos, it doesn't give any measurements for the model to judge how a size small will fit someone of a similar build. We might suggest adding more detail to that section. Further, adding reviews for individual leotards might be helpful so customers can chip in with their sizing and fit feedback.
800+ dancewear items for women
Eleve's product selection offers a wide range of options for women, men, and children, as well as seasonal prints for special occasions. With over 800 ready-to-wear items in the women's section, you'll find a wide variety of fabric choices, colors, shapes, and styles. Most of Eleve's gear is ballet-focused, but you'll find some workout tops and pants that are suitable for hip-hop, jazz, and contemporary. There are around 100 different leotards and you can select from solid colors, patterns, and velvet or mesh fabrics. On top of that, Eleve has 46 black leotards for dancers with a dress code. Finally, we found 32 different styles for warm-ups which change out seasonally. Whether you're looking for a leotard, skirt, dress, top, or bottom, you can find something new at Eleve. However, if you're looking for basics like shoes, you may need to shop elsewhere, as Eleve only focuses on clothing.
Custom leos made to order
If you can't find what you're looking for in the "Ready to Wear" section, Eleve also offers custom-made dancewear. For example, a custom leotard starts by selecting a "base” leotard style. From there, you can choose the size, how much of the interior you want lined for modesty, and colors for the base, the trim, and any details on the leo you chose. We are surprised there are no custom options to change the leg line or add sleeves or other features to the base leotard, but in general, the customization is on par with other companies that offer this service.
Prices from $27 to $151
It's no secret that Eleve Dancewear is a little pricey. However, the high-quality materials and unique designs make it worth the investment. The prices for dancewear start at $27 for a flower-patterned ballet skirt and go as high as $151 for a black women's unitard. To compare prices across different sites, we picked four items to compare: camisole leotards, ballet skirts, men's unitards, and legwarmers.
14-day return policy
The company offers free shipping on orders over $200, which is a small price to pay for exclusive products that will make you stand out from the crowd. Custom orders take 6-8 weeks to produce and are non-returnable. In contrast, "Ready to Wear" items will usually process in 2-3 business days. Shipping across the board takes around 2 weeks, and you can return your ready-to-wear items within 14 days for a full refund as long as they are in their original condition.
Solid reputation for quality fabric
We found numerous reviews from both customers and employees praising Eleve Dancewear. Most customers were thrilled with their purchases and felt that they were worth the cost. The acreage score for Eleve was 3.6 stars out of 5. Many reviewers mentioned that the fabric is durable and stretches well, so the dancewear will last for years to come. Others appreciated the accurate size chart, which makes it easy to order the perfect fit. However, there were some reviewers that state if you have a shorter torso, Eleve's sizing might be a little off, so make sure you triple-check the measurements before you buy a custom item.
Best spot for custom ballet gear
Browsing Eleve's website is a pleasure due to its modern and beautiful collection. If you're a serious dancer looking for high-quality dancewear that reflects your unique style, Eleve Dancewear is the perfect choice. However, if you're looking for a store that has all the basics, Eleve doesn't quite hit the mark. There are no dance shoes of any kind on Eleve and dancewear for styles outside of ballet is a little limited. Still, as an option for custom dancewear, Eleve stands out from the pack and earns an excellent rating in our review.
Dancewear Solutions is dedicated to providing fashionable and affordable apparel for dancers who enjoy a variety of dance styles. The company offers tons of styles of dancewear from leotards to separates to hip-hop ensembles, at significantly reduced prices. The company is family-owned and they claim over 50 years of experience in the industry, which speaks to their expertise. Dancewear Solutions partners with well-known dance brands like Apolla, Bloch, Body Wrappers, Capezio, Mirella, and more.
Simplified browsing and size guides
There are three ways to start browsing on Dancewear Solutions. The three tabs include Shop All, New, and Last Looks. This way you can narrow down by the new or in-season dancewear, the sale items, or just browse the site's entire inventory. You can easily check availability and read detailed product descriptions to help you make an informed purchase. Each listing has a size chart you can explore to get a better understanding of the fit. The only problem is this size chart is universal across Dancewear Solutions rather than individual to each brand. A small from Bloch does not fit the same as a small from Capezio, which could create some sizing discrepancies.
Tons of leos with multiple color options
When browsing Dancewear Solutions' inventory, you can filter through the thousands of options by specific categories, such as leotards, dresses, tights, and accessories. At the time of our review, there were 308 different leotards on Dancewear Solutions. However, the boys' and men's section was extremely limited with only 52 total products in stock across the entire site. This includes basics like shoes, but it's not a very competitive variety. As we explored the Dancewear Solutions website, we were impressed by the number of colors available. Many leotards, skirts, shoes, pants, jackets, and other items come in up to 10 different colors and are orderable in bulk. Dancewear Solutions also offers a special section dedicated to team costumes, where coaches can create professional accounts for exclusive access to styles. This is a great resource for studios or teachers who want to provide dancewear for their school.
Prices from $9.99 to $47.95
Across Dancewear Solutions we noticed that children's sizes are priced slightly lower than adult sizes, with many items marked down 20-30% off retail prices. To sweeten the deal, the company offers discounts on bulk orders: 10% off orders over $250, 15% off orders over $500, and 20% off orders over $1,000. To do a proper price comparison to other retailers, we looked at the same four items at each dancewear provider. Here's what we found:
60-day returns and free exchanges
Dancewear Solutions offers further discounts through its shipping policy. Orders over $45 qualify for free shipping, and in-stock items typically ship within one business day. As for Dancewear Solutions' return and exchange policy, it is one of the most accommodating we've encountered. If you need to return an item (except for undergarments, makeup, tights, and foot care items), you have a generous 60-day window to do so. While customers are responsible for return shipping costs, exchanges are shipped free of charge.
Supported by parent company's reputation
Dancewear Solutions is owned by Weissman, which has an "A-" rating from the Better Business Bureau. Since Dancewear Solutions allows customers to rate individual products, providing valuable insights into each item's performance, we can see a range of ratings from 3.5-5 stars depending on the item. Many products feature customer reviews detailing experiences with sizing, material quality, and durability. We appreciate Dancewear Solutions' transparency in sharing customer feedback to help others make informed purchasing decisions.
Great prices for bulk buying
Overall, we're impressed with Dancewear Solutions' selection of dancewear options at competitive prices. With a helpful size chart, a variety of colors, and a flexible return policy, this retailer is an excellent choice for dancers and coaches alike. We highly recommend Dancewear Solutions as a perfect spot for teachers and dance teams. However, with limited dancewear for boys, it falls behind as a true one-stop-shop. For this reason, it earns a competitive rating in our review.
Só Dança has been a part of Brazil's dance story for decades. The Teixeira Araujo family brought their dream to life by opening two stores in Sao Paulo in the mid-1980s. To meet growing demands and industry standards, the company launched its own factory in 1986, producing high-quality bodywear. In 2017, Só Dança moved to the United States with a vision to expand. With a small collection of dance footwear and a 1,000-square-foot warehouse, they set out to deliver exceptional products to the market.
Helpful cross-size shopping
To get started on Só Dança, you just need to pick from adult, child, or activewear and you'll be browsing dancewear in no time. The site is designed as a colorful, sleek experience that streamlines the shopping process. In the adult dancewear section, there are 10 different filters to help you narrow down your search including gender, price, color, style, size, and more. Each product has a variety of colors you can choose from and the listings show size guides for all potential sizing groups. For example, the Edda leotard has regular, child, and plus sizing. You can see all three of these whether you're shopping in the child, adult, or plus sections.
283 dancewear items in stock
Since Só Dança offers only its own brand for sale, the listings are a little more limited than other retailers, but the numbers are still competitive. Só Dança has 283 different dancewear items for adults (including men's and women's styles). This total doesn't include their shoes. You'll find styles offered in ballet, pointe, character, jazz, tap, ballroom, contemporary styles, and more. You can find leotards, tights, shoes, separates, and even a decent number of men's options.
Prices from $6 to $165
Só Dança is known for being a company that offers well-made basics. As such, their prices are pretty low compared to other companies. For example, you can find a pair of shorts for $6 at Só Dança, and the most expensive item is $165 for a pair of Alina pointe shoes. To compare prices at Só Dança to other dancewear providers, we looked at the same four items at each retailer. Here are the results for Só Dança:
Free returns within 30 days
If you're not satisfied with your purchase, Só Dança has got you covered. The company allows exchanges at any time, and if you're unhappy with your item within 30 days of delivery, you can request a refund. However, final sale items are not eligible for refunds but can be exchanged or exchanged for online credit. To initiate the process, simply let the company know if you'd like to exchange or return your item, and if exchanging, specify the desired size, color, and width. Plus, each order comes with a free return label, giving you a convenient and hassle-free experience.
Solid third-party reputation
While Só Dança doesn't have a page on the Better Business Bureau, customers generally like the service they get from Só Dança. On one website, third-party reviews showed an average rating of 4.3 stars out of 5. Customers loved the return process and how easy it is to make exchanges if something doesn't fit. Só Dança also allowed customers to leave reviews on the website for individual items. However, we didn't see any below 5 stars, which raised some questions about whether the reviews on Só Dança are curated.
A practical and affordable choice
Overall, Só Dança is a reliable and convenient choice for dancewear. Prices are competitive, with many items under $20, and the free return policy within 30 days is a huge perk. However, one area for improvement is the limited selection of unique leotard styles, as they tend to stick to basic cuts and colors. Overall, compared to some of our top competitors, Só Dança comes in with a solid rating for its practicality, affordability, and customer service.
Discount Dance is a company that understands the needs of dancers, providing dance apparel for every style and age group. As a responsible business, they have made it their mission to give back to the community by donating to various charitable organizations, including Hurricane Katrina victims, St. Joseph's Ballet, breast cancer associations, and the National Dance Association. Discount Dance also has a teacher's reward program as well as teacher discounts for buying dancewear from them.
Helpful site and simple navigation
Browsing on Discount Dance is a breeze. You can easily start shopping for exactly what you want by using the top navigation menu or the different slideshow photos that show different collections offered by Discount Dance. You'll also see helpful banners for seasonal costumes and sales. At the time of our review, Discount Dance was offering a promotion of 35% off all shoes along with free shipping. Each listing also has a size calculator on it. You can enter your height, weight, and age and it will tell you your "true size” for each brand. However, from experience, this "true size” runs very small if you've got a different build than the stereotypical ballerina. For example, we were recommended size Petite for a Suffolk leotard which was height accurate but not weight accurate. So, while the size help can be a good starting point, checking out the individual manufacturer's size guides is more helpful.
374 different leotards
Discount Dance has an impressive selection of dancewear for men, women, boys, and girls. We were pleased to find a wide range of products for different dance styles, including ballet, hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, and ballroom. There were 374 different leotards, but only 53 items for men across the entire site, which was a little disappointing. On the bright side, you'll have a helpful one-stop-shop for basics, shoes, and fashion brands to browse. Discount Dance offers items from Baltogs, Ballet Rosa, Bloch, Capezio, Suffolk, Lulli, Mariia, Nikolay, WearMoi, and more. As you start browsing, you can filter dancewear by type, size, color family, brand, price, average customer rating, and dance genre to find the perfect product.
Prices from $5.25 to $88
As its name suggests, Discount Dance offers competitive pricing on many of its products. However, some regular-priced items may not be as discounted. To get an accurate comparison with other retailers, we looked at the same four items at each location. Here's what we found at Discount Dance:
Environmentally-friendly in-house brand
Discount Dance is committed to reducing its environmental impact by implementing sustainable practices in its manufacturing process. They have launched an eco-friendly collection of dancewear called Mariia, which aims to reduce water consumption and pollution. The brand now has three branches: Mariia, Mariia Crown, and Mariia Skye. Each branch offers a slightly different quality and style of leotards. Mariia Crown covers the basics: single-color leotards and familiar or dress-code-appropriate styles. Mariia itself offers a larger range of styles that include unique colors and piping around the seams. Mariia Skye is the most "fashionable” of the options with lace and mesh additions to the designs.
Returns within 60 days
In the unlikely event that customers need to return an item from Discount Dance, they have a 60-day return policy from the ship date. Customers can print a return shipping label from the company for $5.95 (deducted from their refund amount). Unfortunately, exchanges are not available at this time.
Mixed reputation regarding returns
While there may not be a large number of customer reviews on each product, Discount Dance encourages customers to share their thoughts on comfort, durability, fit, and overall satisfaction with the product. Customers can also ask questions about specific products and receive answers from other customers who have purchased the same item. This level of transparency is invaluable in helping customers make informed purchasing decisions. On the other hand, Discount Dance is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau, and third-party review sites offer some concerns. Currently, Discount Dance has only a 2.8-star average from Trustpilot. Some customers have reported difficulties with returns and customer service issues, while others have praised the company's high-quality products and reasonable pricing.
Competitive inventory for female dancers
Overall, Discount Dance is a reliable resource for dancers looking for fresh styles and affordable dancewear options, but if you're looking for a place where you can try on a leotard and return it, Discount Dance may not be the most reliable according to reviewers. Plus, with limited styles for boys, it doesn't match the inventory of other one-stop-shops in our review. However, with lower-than-average prices and an in-house line that offers eco-friendly leotards, it has some stand-out features that keep its rating high. For this reason, Discount Dance earns a competitive rating in our review.
Danzia has evolved from a small Silicon Valley project in 2011 to a globally recognized dance retailer, serving over 20,000 cheer, dance, and fitness groups across 50 countries. The company is owned and operated by Wonita International Inc., a leading clothing industry specialist that focuses on selling dance clothes, shoes, and accessories for dance groups and schools.
Navigation could use some help
When browsing Danzia's website, it's a little confusing to get started. The options across the top navigation menu are not immediately helpful in finding dancewear. You'll see dropdowns like shoes, dresses, tops, skirts, angel wings, men's robes, and other categories that seem more related to fitness or praisewear. To find the dancewear, specifically, we had to scroll down the landing page until we found clickable photos that navigated us to ballet, cheer, and shoes. For other styles like jazz or hip-hop, the fastest way to shop is by using the search bar, which could be frustrating for some.
380 dance shoe options
Danzia's inventory seems primarily praisewear-based, but they do offer a competitive range of dance shoes. There are 380 different products available for dance shoes specifically and this includes ballet flats, jazz shoes, teaching shoes, character heels, tap shoes, hip-hop sneakers, and half-sole lyrical shoes. The selection even includes pointe shoes. Danzia has far fewer leotards than many competitors with only 108 items in stock. The brands include WearMoi, Baiwu, Body Wrappers, Bloch, Capezio, Sansha, and more.
Prices from 13.99 to $63
We were pleased to find that Danzia offers extremely affordable prices for their products. For instance, basic leotards start at under $10, pointe shoes are available for $38, and ballet shoes are priced at just $12. However, due to the lower costs, many of the high-end brands are not included in the inventory at Danzia, so you may need to balance form with function when choosing your ballet gear here. To break down the prices further, we looked at the following four items to compare with other retailers in our review:
Returns within 30 days with prepaid labels
For competitive ballet dancers who go through pointe shoes quickly, Danzia's loyalty program offers rewards. Customers receive 12% off their first pointe shoe purchase, 15% off subsequent purchases up to the tenth pointe pair bought, and 18% off all pointe shoes after reaching their tenth purchase. Danzia also offers a flexible return policy to all dancers. You have time to make returns within 30 days of delivery. As long as items are in their original condition with tags attached and weren't marked as "Final Sale," your purchase will qualify for returns. The company also provides prepaid return labels for most orders. Refund transactions typically take 2-3 business days to appear on customers' cards once initiated.
Solid reputation for quality
Although Danzia doesn't have a rating with the Better Business Bureau, customer reviews are incredibly helpful. Many customers praise the company's excellent customer service, high-quality products, prompt delivery, and affordable pricing. On one site, Danzia's dancewear was rated at 4.5 stars out of 5. We noticed that repeat customers consistently report being satisfied with their experiences at Danzia. Danzia also allows customers to leave unfiltered reviews on all products. Most products have high ratings with comments about fit, comfort, and durability.
Great for classroom basics
Despite a confusing website design, Danzia is an excellent retailer for dancers seeking affordable dancewear, especially shoes or praisewear. However, with limited options for men and no extras like warm-ups, there is something to be desired still at Danzia. And yet, for many looking for classroom basics, this is a great place to shop. For this reason, Danzia earns a higher-than-average rating in our review.
Just For Kix strives to be at the forefront of the dancewear industry, offering the latest trends and styles. With over 35 years of experience, they have expanded their business: Just For Kix engages with over 20,000 young people at over 200 locations worldwide each year through their dance programs, camps, and special events. Just For Kix also uses these classes to educate, inform, and teach youth about the dangers of bullying. By doing so, they have become a dancewear brand that not only outfits dancers but also engages with them.
Updated filters and helpful reviews
Just For Kix doesn't offer advanced filtering options like some other retailers. This means you'll have to scroll through several pages to find what you're looking for. However, they have recently updated the website with some filters like color, size, brand, and availability. Just For Kix also allows customers to leave reviews on all products. Most items have multiple comments that provide valuable insights into each product's performance. You can learn about issues like sheer fabrics that require extra layers, material quality, sizing accuracy, and shipping times. This transparency is refreshing and helps dancers make better purchasing decisions.
Solid inventory for performance pieces
Just For Kix offers an impressive array of dancewear options, including bottoms, costumes, leotards, dresses, leggings, shoes, tights, and tops. You can browse their new arrivals or explore their clearance section to find great deals on previous seasons' styles. You can easily find ballet, jazz, and contemporary items with this retailer. However, Just For Kix stands out the most with its costumes. Most of its inventory is performance wear with glittery unitards and biketards or sequined dance dresses. There are 202 products available for leotards, and about 80% are more suitable for performances than class.
Missing major brands
You also may find that many popular brands aren't available at Just For Kix. The only brands offered are Alexandra Collection, Body Wrappers, Capezio, Dance Basix, Danshuz, Just For Kix's in-house brand, and Plume. Brands like Bloch, Nikolay, and others are notably missing. Weirdly, we did see one WearMoi leotard on the roster, but it wasn't credited to WearMoi. It was very clearly a popular WearMoi cap-sleeve leotard, but there was no branding on the listing at all.
Prices from $5.99 to $70
Just For Kix's pricing falls somewhere in the middle range compared to other retailers. The retailer is not the cheapest option, but it's not overly expensive either. Most leotards cost between $14.99 and $70, depending on the style and features. To compare Just For Kix with other dancewear retailers, we looked at four items to see the price ranges. Here's what we found:
60-day return policy
If you need to return an item from Just For Kix, you have 60 days from the time it ships to initiate the return process. Returned items must be in unused condition with tags attached. Customers are responsible for return shipping costs and can expect refunds credited back to their original payment method within 2-3 weeks.
Mixed reputation for dancewear
Just For Kix has earned an impressive "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau. While they have mixed reviews from customers online, many praise their dance camps rather than criticizing their products. To get a sense of product quality and durability, we recommend reading reviews on specific items. We noticed that most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, indicating that Just For Kix can deliver high-quality and appealing dancewear to its customers.
Mid-tier option best for performance wear
While you may enjoy exploring Just For Kix for its performance costumes, the site falls behind the pack a little in traditional dancewear. It just doesn't offer as full an inventory as other retailers. While Just For Kix has an "A+” rating from the BBB, there are some red flags that keep it from being overly competitive. For example, Just For Kix selling items from brands like WearMoi without listing them as such raises some eyebrows about trustworthiness. Given that there are better sites out there with more reliable reputations and better brands on sale, Just For Kix comes in as an average dancewear retailer in our review.
Danskin has been around the world of dancewear and apparel since 1882. With a focus on comfort, flexibility, and quality, they offer products for women and girls, including exercise wear, sleepwear, intimate clothing, and exercise equipment such as toning kits, resistance bands, and yoga blocks. However, the company's somewhat narrow product selection as well as zero options for boys may make it a less-than-appealing place to do your dancewear shopping if you're looking for something beyond the basics.
Clean site, but more fitness-focused
For a company with "dance” implied in the name, the landing page of Danskin feels more like a fitness website than a dancewear store. The website is sleek and user-friendly, making it easy to navigate and find the perfect piece for your needs, but the abundance of yoga outfits and photos might be misleading to someone who's never shopped with Danskin before. To find the dancewear, you'll need to navigate to the dance tab. Here, you can limit your options by color, size, and style. The details on the listings are a little slim as well, with no size chart to help you decide on the best fit.
Extremely limited inventory
When shopping at Danskin, customers can expect to find a selection of basic dancewear that can be mixed and matched to create a variety of class-appropriate outfits. Unlike some other retailers, Danskin does not offer a wide range of patterns or bold colors. Instead, their dancewear collection features a more subdued palette with mostly black, white, and a few pink options in certain products. While this will be perfect for younger dancers with a dress code, it won't appeal to many adults or professionals. On top of that, the selection is relatively small, with around 30 items total, including leotards, biketards, tights, and girls' wrap skirts. There are no ballet or dance-specific shoes and no items in other dance styles, which makes it much less competitive than other retailers in our review.
Low prices, but low inventory too
Danskin's leotards are priced slightly higher than what you might expect for such basic styles, but overall the prices across Danskin are affordable. The entire dancewear inventory ranges from $2.99 for a pair of tights to $84 for a biketard. While we normally do a price comparison with four different items to show how Danskin stacks up against competitors, we could only offer a price comparison for two of our four items as Danskin doesn't offer menswear or warm-ups:
Free shipping on $50+ and 30-day returns
Most shipping for Danskin is 3-10 days for $6.95 or free for orders $50+. If you're not satisfied with your purchase (excluding undergarments and opened tights), Danskin allows returns within 30 days as long as the item is in unused, unwashed, and undamaged condition. Customers are responsible for return shipping costs.
Concerns from the BBB
While previously Danskin did not have a rating with the Better Business Bureau, that has changed in recent years. But sadly, this isn't good news. Currently, Danskin holds a "D-” rating with the BBB. However, there are only a handful of customer reviews on their website. Due to the general lack of feedback besides a "D-” rating, we are somewhat concerned about Danskin's reliability.
Not competitive enough
While Danskin's fitness products and their slim dance options seem well-made, the company just doesn't stand out as a dancewear retailer. With barely any dance clothes and a "D-” rating, it just isn't a reliable place to get what you need for your dance classes or career. Without anything stellar to help it stand out and almost no reviews from customers, Danskin just isn't competitive in the dance world.
BDancewear prides itself on creating high-quality dancewear that meets the needs of dancers of all shapes and sizes. Founded by a mother-and-son duo, the company takes a customer-centric approach to manufacturing, so that every item is made with precision and attention to detail. With over 200 colors and 7 stretch fabrics to choose from, BDancewear offers a unique range of options for dancers of all ages and styles. However, the quality may be lacking at this retailer compared to other more professional sites.
Cluttered site and odd photo choices
When we saw "inclusivity matters” on BDancewear's front page, we were pretty excited to start exploring. The company offers a wide range of sizes for all body types from XS to 6XL; however, our research showed that larger sizes came at an additional cost. Our enthusiasm was further tempered by the website's cluttered design and overlapping text and images. This chaotic layout detracts from the overall user experience and makes it difficult to navigate the site. When browsing through BDancewear's collection, customers are often presented with photos that look like the dancewear is poorly fitted. There are wrinkles and pulls in unfortunate places, and the photos don't depict the dancewear as very flattering.
472 different items for women
BDancewear's selection includes a lot of gear for jazz, hip-hop, and competition dancers. You'll find a lot of tops, briefs, shorts, skirts, pants, shrugs, gloves, leotards, biketards, unitards, and more. The company offers some options for boys and men with a dedicated category for their dancewear needs, but it is missing essentials like men's unitards or shoes. Within each category, customers can find many different styles, colors, and sizes. There are around 472 women's items for sale at BDancewear.
Custom-ish apparel
BDancewear's products appear to be available for immediate purchase, but customers should be aware that all items are made-to-order. This means that manufacturing time can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks. Unfortunately, the website does not provide real-time stock updates or indicate when products are out of stock. Customers will need to wait patiently for their orders to arrive. This also means that the colors are all custom. So, any leotard on the site can be made in black fabric for class dress codes.
Prices around $43.99 to $77.99
BDancewear isn't overly pricey. Since we couldn't find a page showing BDancewear's full inventory, we weren't able to find a complete price range for this site's dancewear. Instead, we checked the price ranges for the items we compared at each dancewear site: camisole leotards, ballet skirts, men's unitards, and legwarmers. Sadly, BDancewear had an extremely limited selection of menswear and unitards were not included. The site also didn't offer any warm-ups.
No returns unless there's damage
All orders from BDancewear incur a flat rate shipping fee of $3.95. There isn't an option for free shipping, but many of the items are often on sale to keep costs down. However, if you're hoping to be able to try before you commit, you'll be disappointed with BDancewear. Since all products are custom-made, BDancewear does not allow returns or exchanges unless the item is damaged upon arrival. In this case, customers must contact the company directly to resolve the issue.
May not be trustworthy
Despite its wide product range, BDancewear lacks a strong online presence. The company is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau and does not have a rating from them either. While customers can leave reviews on the website, those are few and far between. Many of the existing reviews are outdated, making it difficult for potential customers to gauge the company's quality and customer service. We did find a handful of reviews on Google, but there were only three total reviews with complaints about customer service and quality.
Not worth the hassle
While BDancewear offers unique dancewear options and inclusive sizing, our experience was marred by poor product images, frustrating site design, and limited customer reviews. With no returns allowed, BDancewear doesn't do much to make customers feel comfortable ordering its dancewear. We would recommend exploring other dancewear retailers for a more positive shopping experience and security with possible returns.
Dance is not just a hobby or activity, but a way of life. Dancers spend countless hours rehearsing and perfecting their craft, and their dancewear is an essential part of that process. During classes and training periods, younger dancers wear basic attire such as leotards, tights, and ballet shoes that are designed for comfort and functionality and usually part of a required dress code, while older dancers and professionals get to change up the style and color and accessories of their leo-tights combination.
Plus, class wear isn't the only dancer must-have. Warm-ups are also important for dancers of any skill level. Many warm-ups are designed for ballerinas who need to keep their muscles warm between classes, rehearsals, and before performances, but the dancewear can be worn by anyone. Warm-ups included knitted sweaters, leg warmers, "garbage bag” pants meant to retain body heat, and even specially-made booties that can be worn over other dance shoes to keep feet and ankles warm and cozy. This is where a lot of the "balletcore” styles come from.
And what about costumes? Whether you go to see Swan Lake or La Bayadere at your local arts theater or enjoy a local hip-hop performance, you'll see costumes are extremely important for dancers. Some have to buy their own for freelancing, whereas others are purchased through their academy for recitals. Most dancewear stores sell a combination of class wear, warm-ups, and costumes, offering a variety that suits a dancer's complete lifestyle.
Since dancewear used during training and practice is subject to significant wear and tear, it often needs to be replaced frequently. However, finding a brick-and-mortar dancewear store can be challenging, especially if you live in a rural area or don't have access to a dance studio. Online shopping provides a convenient solution to this problem, allowing you to browse through a wide range of dancewear brands and styles from the comfort of your own home. You can compare prices, read reviews, and take advantage of discounts and promotions to find the best deals possible. Many companies offer free shipping and periodic discounts so that dancers get the best value for their money.
When selecting an online retailer for your dancewear needs, there are several key factors to consider.
