Imagine a world where delicious desserts are just a few clicks away. This is the magic of online dessert clubs, where sweet treats from around the globe arrive at your doorstep on a regular basis. Joining one of these clubs can be a delightful adventure, bringing joy and indulgence into your life, one dessert at a time.
How do these subscriptions work? Each month (or sometimes less frequently if you prefer), you receive a box filled with goodies. These treats can range from cookies and cakes to chocolates and pastries, which makes opening each box an exciting experience. But, if you've got some taste preferences (or even allergies), don't stress: most of the dessert clubs out there today will let you know in advance what's coming in your monthly box of sweets, so that you can hit "skip” if there's something on the schedule that you wouldn't enjoy.
Tuesday, February 18th
If you've ever looked at our reviews for gift subscriptions, you already know that Amazing Clubs is almost always at the top of our list. The company is extremely beloved for its range of 40+ gourmet gift memberships, ranging from non-food surprises like teddy bears and candles, to delicious delights like wine and chocolates. You won't find any other service with Amazing Clubs' dedication to featuring artisans nationwide (sometimes even globally) and delivering world-class creations to its loyal subscribers... all with an above-and-beyond approach to customer service. So, it'll be absolutely no surprise that their Dessert Club is still #1 here.
They tell you exactly what you'll get
With this subscription, you'll enjoy full-size desserts that serve 6-10 people, including treats like cake pops, macarons, and red velvet cake. Not only can you take a look at what Amazing Clubs has sent out over the past year by clicking on the Previous Selections tab, but you'll also be told in advance what's coming in each month's shipment. If you see something you'd rather not receive (for example, our dessert club recipient hates peanut butter), all you have to do is reach out to Amazing Clubs' customer service team via email or phone and let them know. They'll just tack the skipped delivery onto the end of your subscription term, no problem.
You can't beat the flexibility
Also, the dessert club offers incredible flexibility when you're setting it up. You can choose a plan of 3, 4 (seasonal), 6, or 12 months and set up delivery to occur every month or every other month. You can even set the "start shipping" month up to 12 months in advance, making it easy to plan for holidays or special occasions. Prices range from $45.95 to $47.95 per month, depending on your subscription length, with free shipping included. You can choose to pay upfront in advance or month-to-month.
Gift-giving is on point
How about gift-giving features? Amazing Clubs is, well, amazing. Each dessert club delivery comes with a fun monthly newsletter, Sweet Sensations, so your recipient will get to learn about where the treats came from, get some serving suggestions, and maybe learn some fun facts about desserts in general. You've also got access to personalized gift announcements that you can schedule to be sent via email or regular mail, or print one out for hand delivery.
You'll love it, guaranteed
The company's reputation for customer satisfaction is outstanding. Customer reviews show that if anything goes wrong with your subscription, Amazing Clubs will fix it, whether that means sending a new delivery or providing a refund. Having tried many of their monthly clubs, from Jams/Jellies to Flowers, we can confirm that you get what you pay for and more.
Super-satisfied subscribers
And, the subscriber feedback specifically for the Dessert Club is overwhelmingly positive, averaging 4.7 out of 5 stars across nearly 300 ratings. "On time”, "fresh”, "incredible customer service”, and "best gift I've ever given/received” are just a few of the compliments you'll see time and again as you browse the comments from super-satisfied customers. We really liked this one, from someone who relies on Amazing Clubs from year to year for gift-giving: "Thanks for making me look so good.”
Still the #1 pick among dessert clubs
If you're looking for the perfect dessert club to send as a gift or to satisfy your own sweet tooth, Amazing Clubs is the way to go. Their combination of value, flexibility, and customer satisfaction makes them the first-place winner among dessert clubs - again!
Phivi (pronounced like FEE-vee) is the most bespoke dessert club on our list. Every treat in their boxes is lovingly handmade in Brooklyn (NY), and the company will proudly tell you that they're "made with ingredients you can pronounce”. That makes these desserts some of the freshest you'll find, typically shipping out within a day or two of when they were made.
3 dessert clubs to choose from
Since our last evaluation, Phivi expanded its dessert club offerings to include three boxes:
Shipping fees are extra
But, shipping isn't factored into those prices. You should plan on paying about $10 per box, which will be added to the price during checkout or visible in your cart once you've added a dessert club.
Super-personalized
Is it worth it? We'd say "yes” and so would many of Phivi's loyal, enthusiastic customers. Check out Phivi's social media channels for any of the unboxing videos there or on the Phivi website to see for yourself. Besides loving the made-by-hand desserts, customers are really enamored of Phivi's personalized approach to putting together each box. As you fill out your subscription information, you'll be asked to tell Phivi what month you were born in, your favorite types of treats, and even your favorite color, and they'll keep that in mind as they pull each box together (maybe wrapping some treats with a ribbon in the color you like, or adding extras of your most-loved desserts when available). And, if you're sending a Phivi dessert club as a gift, make sure to enter your personalized gift message during checkout too.
Phivi continues to expand
We're also pretty impressed with Phivi's overall customer service. When we noticed on the Artisanal Assortment page that the "up next” section was a couple months out of date, we reached out to the team via email to make sure that they were still rolling out the deliveries. We got a response within a few hours, apologizing for the lack of updates and confirming that yes, it's business as usual at Phivi. (That was probably partly due to some big wins for the company around the time of our review, like a rebranding and securing a huge grant to expand Phivi even further. Congratulations to them!)
Very customer-centric
Other aspects of Phivi's attention to its customers that we really love are the ability to set a shipment schedule based on the subscribers' needs (like skipping or pausing deliveries at any time), offering a strict cross-contamination policy and making the effort to avoid any allergens that customers tell them about, and taking great care to make sure that even warm-weather destinations get desserts in nicely-chilled condition.
One of the best dessert clubs on the market
If you prefer a variety of desserts in each box rather than a single large item, Phivi is an excellent club to join. Each box in the Artisanal Assortment includes a delightful selection of at least eight different treats, though you could always opt for just-macarons or just-cookies-and-brownies if you prefer. While they are newer to the scene, Phivi seems to be taking off like a rocket with no signs of slowing down any time soon. This dessert club earns our second-place ranking and is well worth a look.
Chocolate Maven, owned by husband-and-wife executive chefs Dharm Andrew Segal and Cassie Ramos, started 30 years ago in their home garage. Over the decades, they've grown into an award-winning artisanal bakery known for shipping delicious baked goods nationwide and offering delightful brunch and pickup options for local Santa Fe customers.
Home kitchen origins
Chocolate Maven's journey began with honey-sweetened cinnamon rolls baked in a home kitchen and has evolved into a "must-see" Santa Fe restaurant where you can watch the bakery in action. The company's culture emphasizes goodwill, good food, and the togetherness that food brings, supported by a dedicated team, many of whom have been with the bakery for decades. Celebrating life with laughter and good food is at the heart of everything they make, earning them the Best of Santa Fe award for 22 consecutive years.
4 different dessert clubs
Chocolate Maven has made some big changes to its dessert club offerings since our previous evaluation. There are now four to choose from:
Free shipping on top of affordable club pricing
Those prices are impressive, right? We were even more excited when we got to the checkout and saw that shipping was free on all of Chocolate Maven's dessert clubs. We're not sure how they can offer complimentary delivery for such amazing treats at those prices, but we'll take it.
No lengthy subscriptions required
You don't have to make a long-term commitment to Chocolate Maven when you select a dessert club subscription. They simply run from month to month until you cancel. And, if there's ever a delivery that you don't love, reach out right away so they can make it right. They give you 30 days to request a replacement or refund, but since they might request photos of the problem you're reporting, it's best to do it ASAP.
Not as competitive with respect to gift-giving
There aren't a ton of gift-giving features here, beyond the delight of the desserts themselves. You won't find options for upgrades or to enclose a hand-written greeting to your recipient; you'll just specify a delivery address that's different from your billing address, and that's about it. It keeps Chocolate Maven from being on par with many of its dessert club rivals in that regard, but it's not exactly a dealbreaker overall.
You'll have to rely on restaurant's reviews
We do wish that Chocolate Maven provided subscriber reviews on their website. It would make it that much easier to see that the desserts arrive in great condition, that they taste just as fresh after a few days' journey from NM as they do when eaten in person at their restaurant, and that subscribers are excited for each month's package. But, if the Yelp and Facebook reviews for the restaurant are any indication, you'll absolutely love everything you get from Chocolate Maven.
Give this dessert club a try
We encourage you to take a tasty chance on any of the dessert clubs offered by Chocolate Maven. It's a great way to try what they have to offer with no long-term commitment; cancel anytime, no hard feelings. The variety among the clubs is unusual among dessert subscriptions, and everyone who's tried Chocolate Maven's treats in person gives them an enthusiastic chef's kiss.
David's Cookies, a staple in the gourmet dessert world since 1979, began as a Manhattan storefront and quickly expanded to over 200 locations worldwide. In 1987, they transitioned to mail order, offering a wide array of treats made with fresh, natural ingredients. All their desserts are certified kosher by the Orthodox Union, adding an extra level of assurance for those with such dietary restrictions.
They'll tell you what treats to expect and when
This Dessert of the Month Club provides a delightful mix of classic and unique sweets, such as cheesecake, brownies, lemon bars, and scones. One of the appealing aspects of this club is the transparency about what you'll receive each month. David's Cookies posts a schedule detailing the monthly desserts, so there's no guessing involved. For example, you might receive Chocolate Chip Deep Dish Cheesecake in February, a whole carrot cake in April, and other delectable treats throughout the year. You can use this schedule to help you decide if you want to subscribe for 3, 6, 9, or 12 months (because there's no skipping or pausing of deliveries here).
Free shipping (we think)
And the price? To start, we're pretty sure you'll get complimentary delivery, although the top of the listing says it's free but the Shipping & Delivery dropdown says it'll be $6.95. Just something to look for during checkout! The Dessert of the Month Club itself is priced at $125 for three months, $240 for six months, $360 for nine months, and $450 for a whole year.
Some features for gift-giving
When gifting this dessert club, you can indicate the recipient's name and add a personalized message during checkout. However, the gift-giving features are somewhat limited; there are no options to print a card or schedule an email announcement. Despite this, the personal touch of a handwritten note can still make the gift special.
Mostly positive feedback
Customer reviews of the dessert club are generally positive, though there are only a couple dozen on the David's Cookies website. Most reviews give it a flawless 5 stars, particularly praising the larger desserts like full-size cheesecakes. However, smaller selections such as the 8x8 tray of lemon bars have received less enthusiastic feedback, with some customers feeling they weren't worth the cost. If you're not committing to a full-year plan, it might be wise to start your subscription with a month featuring a dessert you particularly enjoy. Also, we saw one customer who mentioned that they were shipped something different from what was on the schedule, so keep an eye on that too.
Reputation is still going strong
Fortunately, David's Cookies still has an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau and over a thousand 5-star reviews for the company as a whole, so we're not concerned about this dessert club's reputation. David's Cookies also provides an excellent satisfaction guarantee. If you're not completely satisfied with the freshness or quality of your dessert, you can contact them within 30 days of delivery for a replacement or refund. We're pretty sure that the customer we mentioned (who got cookies when she was expecting cheesecake) was able to get the problem fixed without any hassle.
Reliable dessert club with a nice variety of treats
Overall, David's Cookies' Dessert of the Month Club is a reliable choice for anyone looking for a tasty assortment of sweets. Their established reputation, kosher certification, and satisfaction guarantee make them a trustworthy option in the dessert subscription market. While there are a few areas for improvement, such as more robust gift-giving features and consistent shipping information, the quality and variety of their desserts make this club a delightful indulgence for yourself or a thoughtful gift for someone special.
Wolferman's Bakery, established in 1888 as a Kansas City grocery store famous for its super-thick English muffins, is now part of the 1-800-Flowers family. You may have noticed the Wolferman's brand as you purchased strawberries through Shari's Berries, popcorn from The Popcorn Factory, or Moose Munch from Harry & David. If you're already a big fan of this whole gift-giving family of companies, Wolferman's would love to fit right in as your dessert club.
Big fan of breakfast?
Wolferman's only offers one dessert club, and it's definitely on the breakfast-y side. It's called Bakery Favorites, and comes with many of the baked goods you'd see on your morning table like bagels and waffles, plus sweet treats like brownies and baklava. You'll get about two pounds of baked goods in each delivery.
Affordably-priced, especially with Celebrations Passport
Pricewise, Wolferman's dessert club is one of the most affordable on our list. You can subscribe for three months at $89.99, six months at $169.99, or a full year at $314.99, so it'll be under $30 no matter how long you subscribe. However, you'll likely be charged a $7.99 shipping fee on each delivery, unless you're a member of Celebrations Passport ($19.99 in the first year, $29.99 every subsequent year) that makes shipping free. Unlike our previous review, this time we were easily able to purchase and then apply the Passport to our Bakery Favorites order, saving us a decent chunk of change on the 6- and 12-month clubs.
Finally has some subscriber feedback
We're happy to see that some customer reviews have come in since our last evaluation of Wolferman's Bakery. There are only a dozen, but they average 4.6 stars out of 5. People say that the treats arrive fresh and in perfect condition, and that even the "desserts” that didn't seem like they'd be anything exceptional (like the waffles) were absolutely delicious.
Substitutions can be made via phone after placing your order
It was in the Q&A tab next to the reviews that we discovered another important benefit of subscribing to Wolferman's dessert club: if you need to make a substitution, for allergies or simply for preference, you can do that over the phone. That's a big plus compared with most dessert clubs, who typically only allow you to skip a month if there's something you can't eat (or don't want). Some substitutions may come with a slight surcharge; you can find all of that out by contacting Wolferman's Bakery by phone after you place your online order.
Makes gift-giving a breeze
Wolferman's also makes it easy to give their Bakery Favorites dessert club as a gift. First, you'll be offered some one-off "featured gifts” when you put the club in your cart; maybe you'd like to add a mini English muffins sampler or a waffle assortment to your first order. When you continue to the next screen, you'll see just how all 1-800 Flowers' brands take gift-giving up a notch: they'll let you send a complimentary greeting message, send a personalized printed card for $4.99, suggest a gift message if you're not feeling particularly poetic, and even offer to keep track of the special occasion with a reminder next year.
Reputation has slipped a bit
But, we've dropped Wolferman's Bakery a notch since our previous review. The company now only has a "B” rating from the Better Business Bureau, partly due to complaints from customers annoyed by receiving too many emails even after unsubscribing. Others said that they had low-value substitutions unexpectedly delivered with their orders. Although we're glad to report that Wolferman's reps responded to the complaints, it was surprising to see them in the first place.
Best if you really like breakfast-y baked goods
Also, when most people think of dessert clubs, they're probably not expecting such a heavy emphasis on breakfast foods. This could be a fantastic subscription if you (or your recipient) aren't a super sweet-tooth, or if breakfast is your favorite meal of the day, but Bakery Favorites isn't as focused on desserts as people might be looking for.
Since 1995, Flying Noodle has specialized in gourmet gifts for individuals and corporations. Most of these gifts come in the form of monthly clubs, from wine to cheese and beyond. We've been a little stymied by this company in the past, without a ton of information to go on with respect to the dessert club. There's still no rating from the Better Business Bureau or even on third-party sites like Trustpilot. But, never fear - this time, we grabbed the proverbial bull by the horns... and made a phone call to get some answers.
Call for details on recent dessert club selections
Although the Flying Noodle website could do a lot more to pull back the curtain about its Dessert of the Month Club (and maybe secure the website URL while they're at it?), we were impressed by the service we received when we called to ask our questions. And those answers make this subscription a lot more tempting. First off, we asked what kinds of treats could we expect in our monthly (or every-other-monthly) deliveries. Their helpful rep gave us a list of several previous' months desserts, which included the following:
Monthly previews of each delivery come via email
We also learned that, just like some of our favorite dessert clubs, Flying Noodle's comes with a monthly email preview of what's going to be delivered, which is sent out somewhere around the 10th-13th of the month. If you see something coming that isn't your cup of tea, no problem: just reach out via phone or email by the 15th and ask them to skip that month's package. Your subscription will then be extended by another month (tacking on the skipped one to the end of the term, essentially). All packages go out during the last 7 days of the month. Just keep in mind that you won't know what's going to be delivered in the very first package unless you call to ask; from that point on, you (and your recipient, if this dessert club is a gift for someone else) will get that preview email.
You can send this dessert club as a gift
Speaking of gifts, you'll indicate that right on the same page where you choose which club length you want. Then, during the checkout process, you can choose if you want an announcement sent by email or regular mail, and it doesn't look like there's any extra charge. You can request when you'd like that announcement to go out. Flying Noodle also gives you the choice to print out a gift card on your own computer, if maybe you're headed to a special occasion and don't want to arrive empty-handed.
You'll probably have to pay in full, upfront
The friendly Flying Noodle rep thought that it was possible to pay for the dessert club either month-to-month or upfront for a slight savings. We're pretty sure that the latter is not the case; at least, we didn't see any indication of that when we added the subscription to our cart, but if that's a dealbreaker for you, we recommend giving Flying Noodle a call to see if it's possible to set it up that way.
Reasonably-priced and delivery is included
So, here's what you can expect for pricing. You can get three months of desserts for $143.85, four seasonal deliveries for $191.80, six months for $281.70, or a full year for $551.40. That makes the monthly cost from $47.95 to $45.95, respectively. When you choose the total number of dessert deliveries you prefer, you'll also be able to indicate if you'd like the frequency to be monthly or every other month. And, good news, the delivery costs are included in the price.
Satisfaction guaranteed
Also, Flying Noodle really wants you to love everything they send you. If you're not 100% happy with your dessert, reach out right away and let them know. They'll do what it takes to make it right.
From worst to worth it
Would we like to see some kind of feedback beyond the undated testimonials on the Flying Noodle Page? Of course. But we were so excited to talk with Flying Noodle's support rep on the phone and hear that this dessert club isn't too far off from some of our top picks. With the variety of the desserts and the affordable pricing confirmed, we're happy to move Flying Noodle up from the bottom of our list and give the club an above-average rating for the first time. But, if you're listening, Flying Noodle... please update your website!
There aren't many cheesecake brands that are as well known as Eli's. Created in the 1970s as a signature dessert for Eli Schulman's famous Chicago steakhouse, Windy City's famous cheesecake is richer and creamier than its NY-style rival because of the way it's made: a hot, fast bake and no water bath, with an all-butter shortbread cookie crust (no graham crackers here!). Eli's is on its third generation of family ownership: what an accomplishment.
Cheesecake and beyond
There are two dessert clubs offered by Eli's, and no, they're not strictly limited to cheesecake. You can either subscribe to the Cheesecake Club for 3, 6, or 12 months, or choose the broader Dessert of the Month Club for 12 months. Either one gives you 14-16 servings in each delivery, and we're here for that.
Easy to see what's included
We appreciate that you'll always know in advance what will be delivered with these two dessert clubs, even prior to subscribing. (That's a good way to avoid any flavors that might not be your favorite.) Here's an idea of some of what you'll get:
With either club you select, you won't see a single repeat even if you subscribe for a full year's worth of treats.
Pretty reasonable considering how much you get
Ready to find out what it costs? It's not as expensive as you might be thinking, especially when you factor in the number of servings. The 3-month Cheesecake Club is priced at $165, the 6-month subscription is $329, and the year-long membership is $639. If you opt for the Dessert of the Month subscription (that's only available as a 12-month plan), the cost is a little less at $549.
Shipping costs extra
Unfortunately, Eli's doesn't include the shipping fees as part of the cost. For example, on the 12-month just-cheesecake subscription, expect to tack on an extra $155.40 for a year's worth of deliveries. Ouch! But, at least you can count on your cheesecake (and other desserts) to arrive packed with dry ice in a heavy-duty Styrofoam container, making it likely to get there in fantastic, frozen or slightly thawed condition. All dessert club deliveries come the second week of the month, and Eli's doesn't mention if you can pause or skip a shipment. You may want to ask in advance, especially if you're setting this dessert subscription up as a gift during the checkout process.
Don't worry about what the BBB says
We were more than surprised to see that Eli's Cheesecake has an "F” rating from the Better Business Bureau, especially when the BBB gave its reason for the failing grade: the business didn't respond to the two complaints filed against it. We've seen businesses with hundreds (or thousands) of complaints that still manage to get an "A+”, so we're really not worried about what's likely to be an oversight. While there aren't a ton of reviews on the dessert clubs themselves, people from far and wide are very happy with their delivered desserts when ordered a la carte. That's enough for us to easily overlook that "F” grade as an anomaly for Eli's overall reputation.
Customer service will make it right if there's a problem
Besides, Eli's Cheesecake promises the best desserts and customer service. If you're unhappy with your treats for some reason, give them a call at 800-ELI-CAKE (so cute!) within 15 days of delivery. You'll get a refund or a replacement, though they may ask for a photo to see what might have gone wrong.
Great dessert club for cheesecake fans
While this isn't going to be the right plan for anyone that doesn't adore cheesecake (since, even in the mixed desserts plan, every other month is still... you guessed it...), the servings are generous and the customer service is on point as far as we can tell. Eli's Cheesecake earns a solid rating for its two dessert clubs.
Harry & David, part of the 1-800-Flowers family, is a well-known name in gourmet gift-giving. You might be familiar with their popular Moose Munch, but their online store offers much more, including the Harry & David Dessert of the Month Club.
Desserts are on a predetermined schedule
With this club, there's no guessing what desserts you'll get, because Harry & David provides a schedule of upcoming treats. For instance, you might receive a cherry pie in July, truffle trios in August, and a cheesecake sampler in September. You can choose the starting month for your subscription when you sign up, and that can help you avoid any flavors that might not be your top picks.
Pricing is about average, and don't forget about delivery costs
Harry & David offers three subscription lengths: three months for $129.99, six months for $279.99, and twelve months for $524.99. Each delivery also has a $7.99 shipping fee, unless you have a Celebrations Passport membership that might waive this cost. This means you're looking at over $50 per month, but discounts are often available. For example, a 20% storewide promotion during one of our shopping visits to the Harry & David site saved us nearly $100 on a year-long subscription. However, you must pay upfront and can't skip or alternate months.
Pick your desired delivery date
When sending the Dessert Club as a gift, you can include a personalized message during checkout. Unlike some clubs, Harry & David lets you choose a specific delivery date, which is great for timing gifts perfectly. However, there's a $12.99 charge for Saturday delivery and an extra fee of $4.99 if you want your dessert delivered earlier than the default date.
Good reputation
Harry & David guarantees satisfaction with their Dessert of the Month Club, offering a replacement or refund if you're not happy. They have an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, which gives us confidence in their customer service.
Might not be worth it
However, customer feedback specific to this dessert club is mixed. Some reviewers have reported receiving stale desserts that didn't match their previous experiences with Harry & David, and they felt the club wasn't worth the price.
Good but not great
Overall, Harry & David's Dessert of the Month Club isn't the worst option, but it's not the best either. While it's competitively priced (relatively speaking) and offers flexible delivery scheduling, the lack of rave reviews keeps it from ranking higher. You might have a better experience with a higher-rated dessert club, unless you're particularly loyal to the brands in the 1-800 Flowers family. We'd still recommend that you shop around before settling on Harry & David's dessert subscription.
Magnolia Bakery got its start in NYC's West Village in 1996, quickly becoming well-known for its red velvet cupcakes and banana pudding. With tons of local fans of their treats, the bakery soon expanded into more in-person locations. But, customers wanted to be able to share their favorite desserts with friends far and wide, so Magnolia Bakery figured out how to send their goodies all across the lower 48 United States.
Bread pudding galore
There's only one kind of dessert in Magnolia Bakery's club: bread pudding. They announce the newest flavors at the beginning of the month, letting you be a little surprised with what you get. While every delivery will come with 3 classic banana pudding cups, the other 3 will be their in-store featured flavor for that month: past selections have included Apple Crisp, Pumpkin Spice, Chocolate-Covered Strawberry, and Carrot Cake, to name a few. You'll also get a special surprise treat in each box, but Magnolia Bakery doesn't offer a hint as to what that might be.
You can give this dessert club as a gift
Want to give this dessert club as a gift? Magnolia Bakery says that's no problem. Just indicate in the cart that it's a gift, and enter the recipient's address for delivery, separate from your address for billing. You can put in a gift message there too.
On the spendy side, especially with delivery insurance
How much does this dessert club cost? Shipping is included in the fee, whether you subscribe for three months at $195, six months at $375, or 12 months at $720. You'll have to pay upfront for the entire subscription term; there's no month-to-month billing offered by Magnolia Bakery. You may also want to add on Route insurance coverage offered during checkout: that's the only protection you have if your package arrives late (or not at all), or you get the wrong items. That's not the most customer-friendly policy we've ever seen, but there are other companies (especially the smaller ones) that require that extra coverage for such protections.
Policies aren't the most customer-centric
We're also not so thrilled that you can't pause your Magnolia Bakery subscription. You can opt to choose alternative delivery dates within your account portal, but you're out of luck if you're going out of the country on a whirlwind vacation for a whole month: your treats will come anyway. They also don't allow you to cancel your subscription outright, but the bakery does offer to address issues on a case-by-case basis. Still, that's a far cry from our higher-ranked dessert clubs that practically bend over backwards to let you place a hold on your shipments or to give you a refund (even if it's prorated) if you're not loving the treats you get.
Great in person, but what about via delivery?
The Better Business Bureau also isn't so pleased with Magnolia Bakery, offering the company a mediocre "B-” rating for failing to respond to the three complaints filed with the BBB over the last three years. There's plenty of love for the bakery's in-person locations, with reviews describing the wait as well worth it when lining up for the classic banana pudding. We're just not confident in how well that translates into a shipped dessert, especially when Magnolia Bakery goes to great lengths to not guarantee your satisfaction, give you a prorated refund, or let you pause your deliveries.
Not among our favorite dessert clubs
We can only give Magnolia Bakery's dessert club a below-average rating. It might be different if there were hundreds of subscriber reviews singing the praises of the pudding cups, describing them arriving in perfect condition and raving about the top-notch customer service. Unfortunately, the company doesn't have a place to provide that kind of feedback to prospective subscribers. Plus, the type of dessert in this club is pretty limited; not everyone is a huge fan of bread pudding, after all. And, with so many customer-unfriendly policies (like not being able to pause deliveries for any reason), Magnolia Bakery doesn't seem to have made the jump from in-person success to online subscriptions with as much skill as we'd like to see. Unless you're already a loyal fan of what this bakery offers, you're likely to enjoy one of our higher-rated dessert clubs a lot more.
Some dessert clubs offer a variety of payment options. You might find clubs that require an upfront payment for a certain number of months. This can be great if you want to commit to a long-term sweet experience without worrying about monthly bills, or if you're giving the dessert club as a gift that keeps giving. On the other hand, some clubs offer a pay-as-you-go plan, which allows you to enjoy the flexibility of deciding each month whether you want to continue. This can be perfect if you like the idea of trying a club without a long-term commitment, or your wallet can't quite accommodate paying in full.
Subscription plans can also vary in terms of delivery frequency. Some clubs send out dessert boxes every month, giving you a regular dose of sweetness to look forward to.
