Harry & David, part of the 1-800-Flowers family, is a well-known name in gourmet gift-giving. You might be familiar with their popular Moose Munch, but their online store offers much more, including the Harry & David Dessert of the Month Club.
Desserts are on a predetermined schedule
With this club, there's no guessing what desserts you'll get, because Harry & David provides a schedule of upcoming treats. For instance, you might receive a cherry pie in July, truffle trios in August, and a cheesecake sampler in September. You can choose the starting month for your subscription when you sign up, and that can help you avoid any flavors that might not be your top picks.
Pricing is about average, and don't forget about delivery costs
Harry & David offers three subscription lengths: three months for $129.99, six months for $279.99, and twelve months for $524.99. Each delivery also has a $7.99 shipping fee, unless you have a Celebrations Passport membership that might waive this cost. This means you're looking at over $50 per month, but discounts are often available. For example, a 20% storewide promotion during one of our shopping visits to the Harry & David site saved us nearly $100 on a year-long subscription. However, you must pay upfront and can't skip or alternate months.
Pick your desired delivery date
When sending the Dessert Club as a gift, you can include a personalized message during checkout. Unlike some clubs, Harry & David lets you choose a specific delivery date, which is great for timing gifts perfectly. However, there's a $12.99 charge for Saturday delivery and an extra fee of $4.99 if you want your dessert delivered earlier than the default date.
Good reputation
Harry & David guarantees satisfaction with their Dessert of the Month Club, offering a replacement or refund if you're not happy. They have an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, which gives us confidence in their customer service.
Might not be worth it
However, customer feedback specific to this dessert club is mixed. Some reviewers have reported receiving stale desserts that didn't match their previous experiences with Harry & David, and they felt the club wasn't worth the price.
Good but not great
Overall, Harry & David's Dessert of the Month Club isn't the worst option, but it's not the best either. While it's competitively priced (relatively speaking) and offers flexible delivery scheduling, the lack of rave reviews keeps it from ranking higher. You might have a better experience with a higher-rated dessert club, unless you're particularly loyal to the brands in the 1-800 Flowers family. We'd still recommend that you shop around before settling on Harry & David's dessert subscription.
Imagine a world where delicious desserts are just a few clicks away. This is the magic of online dessert clubs, where sweet treats from around the globe arrive at your doorstep on a regular basis. Joining one of these clubs can be a delightful adventure, bringing joy and indulgence into your life, one dessert at a time.
How do these subscriptions work? Each month (or sometimes less frequently if you prefer), you receive a box filled with goodies. These treats can range from cookies and cakes to chocolates and pastries, which makes opening each box an exciting experience. But, if you've got some taste preferences (or even allergies), don't stress: most of the dessert clubs out there today will let you know in advance what's coming in your monthly box of sweets, so that you can hit "skip” if there's something on the schedule that you wouldn't enjoy.
Some dessert clubs offer a variety of payment options. You might find clubs that require an upfront payment for a certain number of months. This can be great if you want to commit to a long-term sweet experience without worrying about monthly bills, or if you're giving the dessert club as a gift that keeps giving. On the other hand, some clubs offer a pay-as-you-go plan, which allows you to enjoy the flexibility of deciding each month whether you want to continue. This can be perfect if you like the idea of trying a club without a long-term commitment, or your wallet can't quite accommodate paying in full.
Subscription plans can also vary in terms of delivery frequency. Some clubs send out dessert boxes every month, giving you a regular dose of sweetness to look forward to. Other clubs offer more spaced-out options, such as bi-monthly or quarterly deliveries. This can be ideal if you want to savor each dessert for longer or if you're watching your sugar intake but still want to indulge occasionally.
Choosing the right dessert club for you can depend on several factors. Here are some key criteria to consider:
